ARMSTRONG Don W. Armstrong, age 87, of Dublin, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. Don was originally from Zanesville, where he was a member of Grace Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. Don graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware in 1937 and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Don served his country in World War II in the Pacific campaign as a communications officer. He left the Navy a Lieutenant Senior Grade. After the war, Don returned to Zanesville to build his business, American Business Forms, and to help raise his three daughters. Don was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Aladdin Temple Shrine, and a Rotarian. Don was preceded in death by his parents David and Blanche Armstrong, first wife Ruth Loebell Armstrong, sister Frances Geiger, sister-in-law Betty Collins and brothers-in-law Fred Geiger and George Skinner. He is survived by his wife, Hennrietta "Hank" Armstrong of Dublin; sister, Betty Skinner of Zanesville; first cousin, Peg Taylor of Zanesville; brother-in-law, L. Maurice Loebell of Westerville; daughters, Ann (Bruce) Littlegreen of Houma, LA, Pam (Jay) Collins of Paducah, KY, and Nancy (Eric) Graves of Newbury Park, CA. He also leaves grandchildren, Curtis, Jill (Robert), Cary (Brandi), Jane (Peter), Beth, Keith and Drew; great-granddaughters, Elisabeth, Lillian and Farrah; step-daughters, Jo (Mike) Albert and Nancy (Ken) Lazar; step-grandchildren, Michael (Laura), Sara and Matthew; brothers-in-law, Jack (Deena) Hurt of Wooster, OH and George (Helen) Hurt of Indianapolis, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. BALL Dorothy E. Ball, age 90, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at her home. She was a retired Gahanna school teacher. Member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, St. Pius X Senior Citizens and Rosary Group and Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She is preceded in death by her hsuband Albert M. Ball. She is survived by daughter, Barbara (Ball) Virella, Whitehall; nephews, Jim Crimmel, Frenchtown, N.J. and Howard Crimmel, Succasunna, N.J.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Helen Jeanette Crimmel, Kenvil, N.J.; 5 grandnieces and nephews. BIGGS John G. Biggs, age 76, of Columbus, Oh., passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at Grant Medical Center. He was a faithful member of Grace Chapel Community Church in Westerville. John leaves behind his loving wife, Joyce Biggs; children, Brad (Cheryl) Biggs, Lisa (Scott) Huddleston and Clay Biggs; grandchildren, Isaac and Daniel Huddleston and Brandon Biggs; other family and friends. CASTLE Ross S. Castle, age 91, formerly a longtime resident of Columbus, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at his daughter's home in Akron, Oh. He retired as regional vice-president for The Mill Mutuals Insurance Company following 49 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris (Bellis) Castle in 1977. HAWK Eleanor Lehne Hawk, age 99, of Upper Arlington died on July 26, 2002 in the First Community Village Health Care Center. She was a member of First Community Church for 74 years and a member of Guild E. During her lifetime, she was active in the Red Cross, with over 42 years service, and the Columbus Cancer Clinic. She served on the clinic's board of directors, was a member of Crew 8, and brought the "Reach to Recovery" program to central Ohio. She received the 1984 Senior of the Year Award from the UA Civic Association. She and her husband were two of "The 30 Who Made a Difference Over 30 Years" First Community Village award in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard and her daughter-in-law Merna. She is survived by her son, Tom (Connie) Hawk; 3 grandsons, Bob (Cindy), Dave (Regan) and Jim (Connie) Hawk; 6 great-grandchildren, Christi, Catie, Ethan, Tracy, David, and Lauren; several nieces and nephews. HOBSTETTER Ralph Frederick Hobstetter, age 92, of Columbus, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at Wesley Glen Health Center. He was born in Portsmouth, Oh. on October 13, 1909, the son of George Valentine and Elizabeth Young Hobstetter, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Tieman Hobstetter, whom he married
October 7, 1933; daughter, Dr. Lynne Hobstetter; and a favorite cousin, Dr. Marie Young Murray of Slingerlands, N.Y. Mr. Hobstetter graduated from Portsmouth High School and attended The Ohio State University. He retired from The Watson-Hill Company after 33 years of service. Prior to that employment, he was a supervisor with the Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation. He was a member of The Overbrook Presbyterian Church where he served on the Boards of Deacons and Trustees, and also as church treasurer. He was an Emeritus Life Associate of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). Member University Lodge #631, F&AM, York Chapter #200, RAM and Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus. HOOVER Roberta K. Hoover, 65, of Columbus, died August 14, 2002 in Mt. Carmel East Hospital. She was born December 18, 1936 in Ravenswood, W.Va., the daughter of Arthur and Lavenah (Snyder) Bowman. She was retired from Crane Plastics. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughters Laura Himes and Wendy Hoover. HURD (BAKER) Mildred M. Baker Hurd, 80, of Columbus and formerly of Marysville, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at Doctors Hospital West. A homemaker, she was a former member of the Marysville Evangelical Friends Church and during her life enjoyed collecting antiques with her husband Max. She was born May 23, 1922 in Marysville to the late Andrew and Maude Pierson Baker. She was married

LONG Edith Marie Sherer "Edie" Long, age 77, of Bexley, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family, August 13, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents the Rev. William and Gertrude Sherer and her sister Ruth Hueter. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Charles E. Long; children, John (Nancy) Long, Suzi (Larry) Michaels, Jeff (Betsy) Long, Nancy (Jeff Boehm) Long; grandsons, Adam, Ben, Brandon, Nathan, Steven and Greg; and brother, Paul Sherer. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for more than 50 years, where she served as a Shepherd. A graduate of Capital University, Edie served as office manager for husband's medical practice. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She had a lifelong love of baseball, and was a devoted fan of the Columbus Clippers.
