HICKS Larry Lee Hicks, 61, husband of Susan Medwin Hicks, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 in Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, S.C. Born November 8, 1940, he was a son of Bonnie League Hicks and the late Raymond A. Hicks. He was a retired police officer from Columbus, Oh., a U.S. Air Force veteran and was of the Protestant faith. Surviving besides his wife of Summerton, S.C. and mother of Columbus, Oh., are a son, Michael R. Hicks of Columbus, Oh.; 3 sisters, Carol Storey of Williamsport, Oh., Joyce Hicks and Sherri Hicks of Columbus, Oh.; 1 brother, Jerry Hicks of Lancaster, Oh.; a granddaughter, Samantha Hicks of Columbus, Oh. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday evening at STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME in MANNING, Manning, S.C. and at other times at the residence, 1571 Hobbs Dr., Summerton, S.C. HOLBEIN Beatrice L. Holbein, age 84, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2002 at her residence. Preceded in death by loving husband Frederick, adorable daughter Sadie Holbein Younkin. Survived by son, Ronald (Joyce) Holbein; daughters, Carol (Art) Gilkerson, Judy Shepherd and Barbara (Bob) Price; 31 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice McKay, Mildred Pierce and Helen (Quinto) Volpe; brother, Norman (Mona) Kuhn; son-in-law, Carl Younkin; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. HOLTSBERRY Mary Darlene "Dolly" Holtsberry, went to be with our Lord on August 24, 2002. She was welcomed home by her father Don Radabaugh who passed away April 2002. Dolly was born on November 18, 1942 in St. Mary's Ohio. She came to Columbus to obtain her Bachelors in Education at The Ohio State University. While there she joined the Pi Beta Phi sorority and became a big Buckeye football fan. She taught business at Hilliard High School for over 30 years and served as head of the department. She formed strong friendships with a group of very special Hilliard teachers "the bridge group" who helped to keep her wonderful sense of humor going through her battle with cancer. Her gifts of love, strength, humor and grace are cherished by her loving family: husband, Trent Holtsberry, son, Josh Holtsberry, both of Dublin, OH; daughter, Kristen Sytsma, son-in-law Michael, and her three grandbabies, Taylor, Turner and Lauren of Grand Rapids, MI; by her loving mother, Betty Radabaugh, Worthington OH; sister, Linda Weiss and niece, Rebekah Weiss; sister Susan Bass and nephew, Michael Bass, all of Dublin OH., and brother, John Radabaugh of Boca Raton, FL. SEIGEL Beverly Seigel, age 72, of Worthington, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 after a courageous battle with Type I diabetes, which she fought over 50 years. Under the care of Grant/Riverside Hospice, Beverly lost her fight at the Laurels of Norworth. Affectionately known as the "Gingerbread Lady", Beverly has collected over 1000 gingerbread boys and girls over the last 40 years. She has donated the majority of her collection to the Worthington Historical Society. Graduate of The Ohio State University in Early Childhood Education, she received her Bachelor of Science in 1979, Certified Gesell Examiner, Gesell Institute of Human Development, New Haven, CT. 1984. Her professional experience as Pre-School Director and teacher includes The Dahlberg Learning Center, Columbus, OH., St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Columbus, OH., Play and Learn Preschool, Linworth, OH., Singer Learning Center, Worthington, OH., and several other Pre-school programs in Flint, MI. Beverly had a passion for reading and spent her life teaching thousands of pre school age children. Along with her husband Saul, Beverly shared the Madden Foundation Humanitarian Award 1999 at the Parkinsons Disease Recognition Gala. Memberships include The Columbus and National Association for the Education of Young Children, Ohio Symphony Orchestra Women's Guild and Board, Lima, OH., Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, Flint, MI., Public Library Board of Trustees, Flint, Friends of Worthington Library (Two term President), Columbus New Neighbors League, Ohio State University Women's Club, Worthington Arts Council Board and Worthington Women's Club, AAUW and Beth Tikvah where she was Pre-School Director. Survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Saul Seigel; children, Paul Jay (Marylou) Seigel of Warrington, PA., Kenneth Allen (Charlene) Seigel of Coconut Creek, FL., Rita-Leigh (David) Polulak of Bradenton, FL.; grandchildren, Krista and Danny Polulak, Veronica (Ronnie), Ken Jr. and Nicole Seigel and Jami Goldstein; brothers, Robert Klein of FL., and Larry Klein of AZ.
