CAMPBELL Sylvan Campbell Jr., age 54, of Groveport, passed away Friday, August 23, 2002 at Grant Medical Center following a motorcycle accident. Sylvan worked for the Ohio Wildlife Center for the last year and half and served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1969-1970. He was a loving husband, brother and uncle. Preceded in death by parents Sylvan and Zella (Rigsby) Campbell Sr. Survived by wife, Virginia Morrison-Campbell; brothers, Jesse (Annie) Campbell of N.M., Larry (Diana) Campbell of Apple Creek, Charles (Shirley) Campbell of Wooster; sisters, Goldie Menear of Kingston, Edna (Garry) Whiting and Emma (Nate) Hamlin, both of Chillicothe; many nieces and nephew; and his feline companion, Kidd and his many friends at Ohio Wildlife Center. CARLISLE Richard C. "Doc" Carlisle, M.D., age 89, of Worthington, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at home. A graduate of The Ohio State University, College of Medicine, Class of 1937, Doc was an intern at White Cross Hospital and a resident at Bellevue Hospital, New York. A veteran of the United States Army Medical Corps, he served in the First, Fourth and Eighth Armored Divisions and was a graduate of Armored Force School, Ft. Knox, Ky., attaining the rank of Major. After the war, he was a Fellow in Dermatology, Bellevue Hospital before starting his own practice in Columbus, January 1, 1946. He retired in 1995. Doc was on the staff of Riverside Methodist Hospital throughout his career. Preceded in death by his wife Edna. Doc is survived by his children, Diane (Gary) Coffman of Worthington, Jan Carlisle of Worthington and Dick (Barb) Carlisle of Ann Arbor, Mich.; grandchildren, Kristy (Mark) Shannon of Worthington, Jenny (fiance, Kyle Strahler) Coffman of Columbus, Katie (Keith) Cavote of Columbus, Jessi Carlisle of Worthington, Michael Ochsenbein of Worthington, Megan Carlisle of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Ben Carlisle of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandson, Jack Riley Shannon; and many friends with a special thank you to Annie, Joan and Curley. CARSON Elizabeth Carson, age 92, was called home to be with the Lord Monday, August 26, 2002 at her residence. Formerly of North Carolina, where she was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. After moving to Columbus, she became a member of Hosack Street Baptist Church, where she continued to serve the Lord faithfully as a Pastors Aide, a Missionary, and in numerous other organizations. Predeceased by mother Dollie Baxter, father, husbands James E. Greene and Charlie Carson, sons Rev. Charles E. and Lucious Greene, siblings Robert Scott and Grace Jordan and daughter-in-law Rosa Greene. Survived by sons, Vernon (Helen), John, Joseph and Edward (Eulia) Greene, all of Ashville, N.C., James (Cecelia) Greene of N.Y. and Julius (Leola) Greene of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughters, Dollie (Cecil) Gravely of N.C., Mary (Charles) Askew and Pearl J. Kibby, all of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Claudia Greene, Winston Salem, N.C.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends. CLARK John E. (Jack) Clark, age 74, died August 24, 2002 at Mt. Carmel East. He was a Hilliard resident for over 50 years and serving as a volunteer fireman for 22 years. He was employed with Abex, Dennison Engineering and retired from Rockwell International. John enjoyed helping his neighbors and was an avid gardener. He was a member of the American Legion Post 614 and the Hilliard Moose. Survived by children, John Jr., Jill Lintelman, Jan (Gene) Douglass; grandchildren, Kinsey and Megan Douglass; sisters, Clara Baesmann and Doras McNamee; loving companion, Bobbie Jean Clark; and numerous relatives and friends. COOK Audrey "Margaret" Cook, age 74, formerly of Valley Creek Drive, Columbus, died Saturday, August 24, 2002, at Columbus Healthcare Center. Preceded in death by her husband James M. Cook in 2000 and by her parents Sarah and Elmer Walter. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph M. and Linda Cook, Beloit, WI and Robert L. and Carol Cook, Columbus; son, Larry J. CRAGER Ruth Louise Crager, age 66, of Hilliard, passed away August 25, 2002 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by daughter Charlotte, father Grover Gilfillen, brother Elliott Gilfillen, father-in-law and mother-in-law Arthur and Opal Crager, sister-in-law Ruby L. Crager. Attended Christ the King Church. Member of the Hilliard American Legion Auxiliary and Legionettes Drill Squad Unit 614. Former employee of Medex, Inc. and the Hilliard Police Department. DARROW Robert French Darrow, age 87, Saturday, August 24, 2002 at The Ohio State University Hospitals. Born in Mahoning County, Oh. on January 10, 1915 to James G. and Ethel French Darrow. Graduate of The College of Wooster and received Master's in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University. Retired in 1975 as Executive Director, Personnel with the Columbus Public Schools. Had served as principal of Whetstone High School, West High School, Barrett Junior High School and Central High School's Evening Program. He served a term as president of the Central Ohio Teachers Association. In retirement he was president of the Westminster-Thurber Forum and was very active with the work of King Avenue United Methodist Church for the past 60 years where he served on their Administrative Board and on numerous committees. Survived by wife, Esther Larr Darrow; daughters, Dee (Tom) Shockney of Gahanna, Oh., Mary Lou (Matthew) Carrington of London, England and Sandy (Tom) Trinter of Columbus, Oh.; grandchildren, Andy (Robin) Shockney of Gahanna, Oh., Kristen (Joel) Mesaros of Columbus, Oh., Scott Darrow (Megan) Trinter of Chicago, Ill., and Victoria Carrington of London, England; great-grandchildren, Jack Mesaros and Elizabeth Shockney; sister, Dorothy Darrow Flower of Columbus, Oh.; along with other nieces and nephew. FORSYTH Ruth Margaret Forsyth, age 82, of Upper Arlington, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was a retired Elementary School Teacher, having taught in Franklin, Ohio and Lakewood, Ohio. She was a graduate of Alexandria High School in Alexandria, Ohio in 1938 and Ohio
University, and received her Master's Degree from Indiana University. She
was a member of Mountview Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member of
the choir, and was a volunteer at the Upper Arlington Senior Center. She loved to travel and will be remembered for her generosity and her infectious laugh. Her parents Edgar and Mary Forsyth and sister Rosemary Leuchter precede her in death. She is survived by her niece, Johanna (Candice Corrigan, Ph.D.) Leuchter, D.O. of Austin, MN; nephew, Fred (Virginia) Leuchter of Greeley, CO; great niece, Jane Leuchter; great nephew, Keith Leuchter. GILG Harry Edward Gilg, age 86, of Upper Arlington, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Kobacker House. He retired from Penn Central Railroad in 1977 where he had been a Conductor. He was a member of Sunrise Lodge #783 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine, and Court #8 R.O.J., as well as Aladdin Shrine Drum and Bugle Unit and Worthington Shrine Club. He was a former member of Columbus Maennerchor and had been a greeter at Aladdin Shrine Temple. He is survived by his loving wife, Edith; daughter, Sue (David) Bracy; grandchildren, Dawn Bracy and David Bracy, Jr.; sister, Gloria Gilg; brother, Roy (Viola) Gilg; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. HASTILOW Mildred "Lucy" Hastilow, 75, of Pataskala, died at her residence on Sunday, August 25, 2002. Mildred was born in Jersey, Ohio on October 6, 1926.
