Roberta Jane Bulan
ASHLAND — Roberta Jane Bulan, 28, of Ashland formerly of Vermilion, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 as the result of an automobile accident in Harrisville Township.

She was born December 18, 1980 in Lorain and has been a life long Vermilion resident, moving to Orange Twp. in May of this year.

She was a graduate of Vermilion High School and worked in sales at Liberty Ford, Vermilion, and had previously worked for Mike Bass Ford.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends and her children.

She is survived by her children Jasmine and Jesse, both at home; mother, Alberta Bulan, Vermilion; father, Robert (Robin) Bulan, Vermilion; brother, Bobby Bulan, Vermilion; companion, Dave Dongarra; half sister, Laura Young, Minnesota; half brother, Bill Bulan Crawfordsville, IN; step sister, Nina (Rob) Martin, Lorain; stepbrother, Frank Patterson, Lorain; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Alfred and Sophia Uhse and Rudolph and Anna Bulan.

Friends may call Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.

Friends may also call Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009. The Reverend Joan Skelly-Watts, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Roberta Bulan Memorial Fund for the benefit of Jasmine and Jessie's Education, c/o Fifth Third Bank, 4400 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, Ohio 44089.

Christine Louise Schmitkons
LORAIN — Christine Louise Schmitkons, 43 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following an escalated struggle with a life long illness.

She was born July 29, 1966 in Oberlin and raised in Amherst. Lorain had been her home since 1982.

Christine was a member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst. She had been an active member of the Murray Ridge School and Workshop since she was young girl. A loving and caring soul, she enjoyed helping and providing aid to those around her in need. She loved spending time with her grandmother, looking at family photos, and scrap booking.

Survivors include her parents David and Esther Schmitkons (nee: Sick) of Lorain; her brothers Jan Schmitkons of Amarillo, Texas and Karl Schmitkons of Dover, Delaware; two nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Raymond and Florence Sick; her paternal grandparents Henry and Bertha Schmitkons; and uncles Edwin Schmitkons and Alan Sick.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Daniel Reinke, pastor of Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst, will officiate.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Old Stone United Methodist Church, 553 South Main Street, Amherst, Ohio, 44001 or Friends of Murray Ridge for Meister Home; 4609 Meister Rd., Lorain, OH 44053.

James Belden Rowe
(September 26, 1929 - May 17, 2011)
James Belden Rowe, 81 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness.

He was born September 26, 1929, in Pikeville, Kentucky. He lived in Garrison, Kentucky before moving to Lorain where he had made his home for the last fifty one years.

James became an ordained Baptist Minister in 1956. He felt very humbled to have been a minister for over fifty years. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family and studying his Bible.

James was employed at US Steel in Lorain, and also as a fireman for the B&O Railroad. He was later employed at Ford Motor Company in Lorain before retiring after thirty years of service. James was a member of the UAW Local #425.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of sixty-two years Janet Rowe (nee: Dyer); his sons and their wives Jimmy and Loretta Rowe of Lorain, Timmy and Carol Rowe of Grafton, Tommy and Billie Rowe of Vermilion, Donny and Teresa Rowe of Vermilion, Ronny and Marsha Rowe of Lorain; and daughter and her husband Janet "Sue" and Harry Hasebein of Middleburg Heights; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; his sisters Mrs. Opal Bentley, Mrs. Mary Weddington all of Garrison, Kentucky; Georgia See and her husband Hetzel of Vermilion and his brother in law Peter Recznik of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Bertha Rowe (nee: Hylton); his brothers McKinley Rowe, Arthur Rowe; his sisters Naoma Wright, Eula Recznik, Florence Spence and Edna Creech.

Friends may call Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Keesee, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Elyria, Ohio, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

Lola Marie Worley
(June 25, 1936 - May 17, 2011)
Lola Marie Worley (nee: New), 74 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born June 25, 1936 in McQuery County, Kentucky. At the age of 14, Lola came to South Amherst. She had made her home in Lorain for fifteen years before moving to Elyria where she resided for eighteen years.

Lola was employed as a housekeeper at Amherst Manor Nursing Home for thirty years before retiring in 2008. She enjoyed shopping, country music, and going to flea markets. Her hobbies included playing horseshoes and cornhole game. Lola especially loved dining out and spending time with her family and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her son and his wife Mark and Bielka Casada of Lorain; her daughters Barbara Johnson of Vermilion, Darlene Demastus and her husband Homer of Elyria, Diana DiFrancisco and her husband Buddy and Lynn Gayheart and her husband Jim all of Vermilion; her grandchildren Shane Demastus, Andi (Bill) Zook, April DiFrancisco, Sarah Demastus, Steven Demastus, Amber Tomazin, Jordan Casada, Tyler Gayheart, Seth Mead, Jayme Gayheart; many great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; her sisters Alpha Blackburn of California, Glenna Morrow of Elyria, Desda Godsey of Lorain, Alene New of Tennessee and Roberta Burton of Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her infant son Marvin Worley in 1953; her daugther Joyce "Dukie" Mead in 2000; three brothers and three sisters; and by her parents Restus and Dora Bell New (nee: New).

Friends may call Friday, May 20, 2011 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Cliff Morris, pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church, in Vermilion will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

Lillian Loretta Richter
(October 22, 1922 - May 20, 2011)
Lillian Loretta Richter (nee: St. George), 88 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at the home of her daughter following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Lillian was born October 22, 1922 in Lowell, Massachusetts where she was raised and lived until the age of 21. Lorain was her home from 1943 to 2007 when she moved to South Amherst to make her home with her daughter, Suzanne, and her family.

Lillian was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain.

Survivors include her son James A. Richter of Arizona; her daughters Janice Thayer of North Carolina, Suzanne McGlugritch and her husband Roy of South Amherst, and Kathleen Strohsack of Arizona; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and her brother Benjamin St. George. in Massachusetts.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Herman Reinhardt Richter on August 21, 2003; her son Richard Richter in 1980; her infant daughter Joann in 1960; by her parents Henri and Bertha St. George (nee: Berube); by her brother George St. George; and her sisters Dot and Cecil.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery,640 North Ridge Road, Lorain.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, Cleveland Area Chapter; PO Box 74924, Cleveland, OH 44194-4924.

Norma J. Morrow
(June 15, 1931 - May 20, 2011)
Norma J. Morrow (Nee: New), 79 years of age went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 20, 2011 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following health complications.

She was born June 15, 1931 in Delta, Kentucky to George Isaac New and Frona Alice New (Nee: Dick).

At an early age, Norma accepted Jesus as her Personal Savior and was baptized at Green Grove Baptist Church in Kentucky. Survivors include her two daughters Wilma of Tennessee, Joyce and her husband Perry of Ohio; her son and his wife John and Kim of Norwalk; her granddaughter Patty and her husband Dave of Ohio; her great grandchildren Alyssa and Valery; her grandson Joe and his wife Peggy; her great grandchildren Dillon and Hailey; her brother Hubert of Tennesee, her sisters Rhilda of Kentucky; Eloise and her husband Dave of Arizona. She is also survived by her wonderful friend and caregiver Elmer D. Phillips and his son Shane and her dear friend Oma Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-four years Lester Q. Morrow on October 14, 1975; her parents George and Frona New; her brothers Floyd, Hobart, Ardell and Galen; her sisters Ethel, Thelma, Eva and her infant sister Emily; her grandson Chad Morrow and one great granddaughter Christian Jo "Chrissy" Butler.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Pike Cemetery in Oneida, Tennessee. Brother Shane Phillips will officiate. Music Provided by Bro. Shane Phillips.

Ira Ison, Jr.
(December 4, 1928 - May 22, 2011)
U.S. Veteran
Ira Ison, Jr., 82 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at EMH Regional Medical Center, in Elyria following a seven month illness.

He was born December 4, 1928 in Bruin, Kentucky. Ira had made his home in Amherst since 1962.

Ira served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He was employed at General Motors in Elyria and Brookpark for forty-three years before retiring in 1996 as a journeyman. Ira was a active member of Avon Baptist Church, he served previously as a Deacon and as the Sunday School Director. He loved sharing his faith and telling people about his Savior, Jesus Christ. His hobbies included gardening. Ira's greatest joy was being involved with and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his sons Robin Ison and his wife Betty of Elyria, Gregory Ison of Wakeman and Josh Ison and his wife Lori of Amherst; his daughter and her husband Patricia and Keith Hepler of Amherst; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; his brother Edwin Ison of Ashland, Kentucky and his sister Clara Morgan of Huber Heights, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years Margaret Verdell Ison (nee: Long) on August 3, 2003; his brothers Josh, Clayton, Charles, Eldon and Paul Ison; his sister Hester Fannin and by his parents Ira and Bessie Ison (nee: Pennington).

Friends may call Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 5 -8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church; 38550 Chestnut Ridge Road, Elyria. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
