HYSLOP Andrew Hyslop, age 93, died February 5, 2001 at the Convalarium at Indian Run. Formerly a resident of St. Clairsville, Oh. Retired as chief engineer of Consolidated Coal Co. Chairman, National Mining Safety Council. Elder of Calvary United Presbyterian Church. Jones Rebecca M. Jones, age 82, of Grove City, passed away Friday, February 2, 2001 at Sun Rise on the Scioto Care Center. Rebecca assisted her husband for many years in his Veterinary practice. KUHN Bessie N. Kuhn, age 96, of Pickerington, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at Arbors East Care Center. She is survived by her son, Jack C. (Janet) Kuhn of Pickerington; grandchildren, Roberta "Bobbi" (Daniel) Gaines of Groveport, Jack C. Kuhn II of Dublin, Thomas W. (Sandra) Kuhn, Betsy A. (William) Hinterschied, and Timothy A. (Lisa) Kuhn, all of Pickerington; great-grandchildren, Jake, Adam, Daniel, Nathan, Shawn, Jon, David, and Billy; sister-in-law, Bernice Casto, Bexley, Oh. LAEUFER Diana Basinger Laeufer, age 69, of Columbus, passed away Monday, February 5, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born March 27, 1931 in Lima, Oh., the daughter of the late Dr. Harvey L. and Bettye Clark Basinger. She was a graduate of Laurel School For Girls, Cleveland, Oh. and University of Cincinnati, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. She retired from U.S. Census Bureau in 1997. Previously, she was a hematologist at O.S.U. and Children's Hospital, Columbus. She was an entrepreneur in the fast food industry-owning the second Taco Bell east of the Mississippi River. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric B. and Sarah Laeufer; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and John Welsh, all of Columbus; granddaughters, Sarah, Maddie, Linda and Heather; mother-in-law, Madeleine Laeufer; sisters, Linda Laeufer Basinger, Lima, OH., Martha Carmean, Bellefontaine, OH. Diana was preceded in death by her husband Barney J. Laeufer in 1986 and brother H. Taggart Basinger in 1992. She was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and also a member of Twig # 69, Children's Hospital. McDONALD Capt. Jerry R. McDonald, U.S.N., retired, 59, of the 1200 block of Botetourt Gardens, passed away on Saturday evening, February 3, 2001 in his residence. Jerry was born and raised in Columbus, Oh. and graduated from Linden-McKinley High School. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in anthtropology and a masters degree in Public Administration. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1963 and served as a fire control technician aboard the aircraft carriers, Randolph, Lexington and the Intrepid. He was commissed as an Officer and Gentleman in the Navy in 1968. He served in the Cuban Missile Blockade, Viet Nam in 1969, Mariel Cuban Boat Operations of 1980, Lebanon, Beirut during the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks, and in Bahrain during the tanker wars of 1988. Capt. McDonald served a total of 29 years in the Navy, 19 of them forward deployed. He had 4 major commands, Commanding Officer of U.S.S. Shakori (AFT-162); U.S.S. Portland (LSD-37) and U.S.S. LaSalle (AGF-3), and Commandre of Amphibious Squadron Six. Following retirement from the Navy in 1991, Jerry with his partner, Matthew H. Lipkin, built Marpol, a wastewater management company, Bay Gulf Trading and Seaforce Marine. He is survived by his parents, Jeanne and Joe McDonald of Columbus, Oh.; his beloved wife of 33 years, Julie Ogle McDonald of Norfolk; sister, Judith McDonald of Columbus, Oh.; his beloved daughter, Ellen McDonald and son-in-law, Joseph Bondi; and his grandchildren, Emily Grace Bondi and Claire Emma Bondi, all of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Margaret McDonald, his aunt Katherine McDonald and his mother-in-law Mary Ogle. A funeral service will be conducted with full
military honors at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 in the Ft. Meyer Old Post Chapel in Arlington National Cemetery.
