He retired as an engineer with Columbian Rope. He attended First United Methodist Church of Weedsport, was a past councilman for the town of Brutus and was a member of the Weedsport Fire Department and American Legion Clark-Heck Post 568. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 53 years, the former Rita Beyer; a daughter, Gretchen Pfitzner of North Carolina; a son, Gregory of Weedsport; a sister, Virginia Bibbens of Weedsport; a brother, Bruce of California; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church. Burial, Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn. No calling hours.  White Chapel Funeral Home, Auburn, has arrangements. Contributions: Any charity.

Myrtle Hill, 82, of Cortland Memorial Nursing Facility, Cortland, died Friday. She was born in Cuyler. She worked for Smith Corona and volunteered at several nursing homes. She was a communicant of Blodgett Mills Church. Survivors: A son, Bradley of Cortland; two sisters, Shirley Reynolds of Cortland and Joyce Crandall of DeRuyter; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-stepgrandchildren. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home. Burial, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Truxton. Calling hour, noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland.

Therese M. Jones

Therese M. Walsh Jones, 73, of Southbury, Conn., died Aug. 3. She lived in Elbridge 11 years, moving to Southbury in 1986. She worked in the library and cafeteria at Camillus Middle School from 1980 to 1986 and was a parishioner at St. Patrick's Church in Jordan from 1975 to 1986. She was a foster parent for 13 children and was a volunteer at Southbury Training School and Mediplex in Connecticut for 12 years. Her husband, Joseph P., died in 1985. Survivors: Five daughters, Deborah J. Bette of Southbury, Victoria M. Steponaitis of Middlebury, Conn., Marie L. St. Martin of Bremerton, Wash., Sarah L. Kolek of Jordan and Leticia R.  Jones of Auburn; two sons, Terence R. of Fort Collins,  Colo., and Peter T. of Baltimore, Md.; 18 grandchildren. Memorial services: 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Church, Jordan. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury, has arrangements. Wilfred A. Buggs, 85, of Walden Place, Cortland, died Saturday. Born in Cortland, he graduated from Cortland High School. He was a sealer of weights and measures for Cortland County for 10 years and had worked for Wickwire Bros. in Cortland. He was a volunteer and secretary for Cortland Fire Department and a member of Preble Fire Department. He was a councilor for the town of Preble from 1966 to '73 and town supervisor from 1974 to '79.Survivors: His wife of 60 years, Joyce; two daughters, Suzanne Guido and Cheryl Payne, both of Cortland; a son, Bradley of Houston; a sister, Mildred Harvey of Cortland; a brother, Kenneth of Cortland; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was a member of Scriba Masonic Lodge 414 in Constantia and Carrier Corp. Fire Department. He was a member and past chief of West Amboy Volunteer Fire Department and a life member of Oswego County Fire Chiefs Association.Survivors: His wife of 53 years, the former Nellie I. Golley; four daughters, Nancy  Jackson of Richland, Deborah Cottet of Pulaski, Theresa Hess of Altmar and Norma Cottet of Parish; three sons, Bernard of Parish, John of Mexico and Elmer of Pulaski; three sisters, Roberta Laws of Constantia, Rosalind House of Mallory and Rita Kinney of Van Alstyne,  Texas; two brothers, Richard of Central Square and Ronald of Constantia; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Harter Funeral Home. Burial, Union Settlement Cemetery. Calling hours, 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 2983 W.
