Betty Ash
11/1/02 - She was born April 9, 1924, in Endeavor, Pa., the daughter of the late Pearl and Bondella Whitehill Dunham.

A Warren resident more of her life, she was employed at the Warren State Hospital as a psychiatric aide, retiring in 1976 after 10 years of service. She had formerly been employed with the former G.C. Murphy's and Anderson's Bread. She was a private for the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps during World War II.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil R. Ash, whom she married Jan. 7, 1983, in Warren; two daughters: Jerry Landers of Ackley and Barbara Gelotte of Warren; one son: Glen A. Landers of Russell; one stepdaughter, Celia Ash-Gross of Pittsfield; two stepsons: Mark R. Ash and Matthew G. Ash, both of Russell.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ann Goranson, who died May 13, 1994; her first husband, Floyd A. Landers; three brothers: Gene, Louis and Lee Dunham; one sister, Charlene Thompson, and a half-brother, Andrew Monstrom.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Buddy Ward, pastor of the North Warren Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Warren County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Warren Chapter of the American Heart Association.

Betty Kestler

10/8/2004 - BEMUS POINT - Betty J. Kestler, 84, of 128 Lakeview Ave., High Acres, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 7, 2004) in her home. She was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Jamestown, the daughter of Gus and Ellen  Johnson Fagerstrom.

She was a 1937 graduate of Jamestown High School and, prior to retirement, had been employed by Quality Market as a cashier and in the meat department. She had also been employed as a waitress by the John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She attended the Buffalo Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the War Vets Recreation Club, the Henry Mosher Post 683, the American Legion and the John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veterans of Foreign Wars. She had also participated in league bowling for many years.

She enjoyed bowling and crossword puzzles, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy A. Landy of Cambridge, Md.; three sons: D. Gregory Kestler of Jamestown, G. Thomas Kestler of Watts Flatts, and R. Michael Kestler of Celoron; 11 grandchildren: Jacob, Sonya and Melissa Kestler, all of Jamestown, Miranda Kestler, Jeremy and Joshua Arnone, all of Lakewood, Julia Kestler of Celoron, Greg Storms of Falconer, Eric Anderson of Watts Flatts, and Anny and Zachary Landy, both of Cambridge; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Kestler, whom she married July 25, 1941, and who died Sept. 22, 1995; two sisters: Lillian Saunders and Doris Fagerstrom; and three brothers: Lawrence, Harold and John Fagerstrom.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will not be observed.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, N.Y., 14757.

Betty M. Grisanti

1/21/2006 - FORESTVILLE - Betty M. Grisanti, age 77, of Prospect St., Forestville, died Thursday, Jan. 19th, 2006, at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer for 6 years, with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Grisanti was born in Arcade, N.Y., on Nov. 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Leon Hopper.

She was a ticket operator at Off Track Betting in Dunkirk and Jamestown, for four years, retiring in 1991. Mrs. Grisanti was a former den mother for the Cub Scouts in Forestville, a charter member of the Forestville Band Boosters, and an executive board member of the New York State Federation of Republican Women. She was a member of the Forestville Parent's Guild, a member, past president and past vice president of the Town of Hanover Republican Club, a member, past chairman and past vice chairman of the Town of Hanover Republican Committee.

She was a member of the Chautauqua County Executive Committee, a member of the Chautauqua County Republican Committee, a member of the New York Republican State Committee, 150th District, a member of the Legislative Support Committee, a member of the Hanover GOP Club for many years, and served as hostess of the Republican County Annual Dinner from 1988-1989.

She served as campaign manager for the late Robert Butcher, former Chautauqua County legislator. She worked on the campaigns for Amo Houghton, United States Congressman, the late Pat McGee, former New York State Assemblywoman, the late Jess Present, former New York State Senator, Richard Bradigan, former Chautauqua County Legislator, Jerry Parks, current Chautauqua County Legislator and the Honorable Lynn Hartley, former Jamestown City Court Judge. She also worked for many assorted village candidates including trustees and mayors and worked at the GOP table at the Apple Festival.

Mrs. Grisanti was a cancer volunteer and Daffodil chairman for that committee, was a Heart Fund Volunteer, was on the Cable Committee for the Village of Forestville, served on the Forestville Village Board from 1981 to1983, was a former member of the Forestville Parent Teacher Association, and a former member of the Forestville Youth Recreation;

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid John Wayne collector.

Survivors include her husband, Angelo J. Grisanti of Forestville, whom she married Jan. 22, 1955 in Silver Creek, one son, William V. (Charity) Grisanti of Bristol, Va.,, three daughters: Mrs. Michael (Bonnie) Gajewski Sr. and Mrs. Thomas (Debra) Pazderski, both of Forestville, and Mrs. Thomas (Cindy) Howlett Sr. of Silver Creek. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Sarah LoManto, Stephanie Gajewski, Michael Gajewski Jr., Adam Grisanti, Ivy Grisanti, Evan Gajewski, Thomas Howlett,Jr., one great-granddaughter, Lauryn Grace LoManto, several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and a cousin, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Domes of Chafee, N.Y.

Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., from where funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock, with the Rev. Bruce M. Ellis, pastor of the Forestville Wesleyan Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Forestville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to American Lung Association of Western New York, 210 John Glenn Drive 3, Amherst, N.Y., 14228, the Forestville Fire Department Emergency and Rescue Squad, Chestnut Street, Forestville, N.Y., 14062 or the American Cancer Society, 101 John J. Audubon Parkway, Amherst, N.Y., 14228-1198.

Betty Marsh

10/8/2004 - KENNEDY - Betty J. Fenton Marsh, 82, of 2289 Route 62, died at 1 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 7, 2004) in her home. She was born Feb. 22, 1922, in the town of Carroll, the daughter of Roswell and May Bragg Fenton.

Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Hazelnut Ridge Farm in Kennedy, for many years. She was a member of the Clarks Corners Community Church, where she was Bible study leader, church pianist, Sunday school teacher and deaconess. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau, and the Ivory Cemetery Society, and a former member of the Grange.

She enjoyed reading, gardening and baking. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who set a Godly example for her family. The examples set forth by her life are evident in her families presence in the church and in the eyes of God.

She is survived by her husband, Frank B. Marsh of Kennedy, whom she married June 26, 1940, in the Ivory Baptist Church in Frewsburg; two sons: Joseph Marsh of Kennedy, and Timothy Marsh of Frewsburg; a daughter, Dawn Peterson of Frewsburg; nine grandchildren: Nathan Marsh, Mark Peterson and Jason Donelson, all of Kennedy, Kim Elderkin, Julie Minor, Steve Marsh and Scott Peterson, all of Frewsburg, Kristian Donelson of Lake City, Pa., and Brian Peterson of Niobe; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Allen Minser of Oregon; two sister Rosalie Fenton of Florida and Bonnie Carlton of Maryland

Beside her father, and her mother, May Bragg Fenton Minser, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Donelson; a sister, Doris Grad; and two brothers: Wallace and Martin Fenton.

The funeral service will be held held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Clarks Corners Community Church. The Rev. Lee O'Brien, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ivory Cemetery, Frewsburg.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg, and one hour prior to the service Saturday in the church.

Memorials may be made to Clarks Corners Community Church, Gospel Lane, Kennedy, 14747.

Beulah Messinger

7/30/2004 - CORRY, Pa. - Beulah M. Messinger, 68, of 251 W. Pleasant St., Apt 5, formerly of Panama, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday (July 28, 2004) in her home. She was born April 28, 1936, in Panama, the daughter of Clarence and Emeline Louise Wiltsie James Sr.

She co-owned and operated J&B of Corry for many years, and had also worked as a foster grandparent at Happy Hearts Day Care of Corry. She was a member of Corry United Methodist Church and was involved in Love Inc. at the church. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Corry. She also was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed playing pool and was city champ from 1995-96, an avid bingo player and caller, and enjoyed NASCAR racing on TV. She also enjoyed helping around the Pleasant Manor and running errands for her friends. She enjoyed the company of several close friends and her ex-husband, John Messinger.

She is survived by five sons: Ronnie Messinger of Corry, Ricky and Roger Messinger of Union City, Pa., Randy and Tom Messinger of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mary Roth of Melboume, Fla., and Evelyn Gunnell of Gerry.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Sager; and a brother, Clarence H. James Jr.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Spitzer Funeral Home, Clymer. The Rev. Terrence Snyder, former pastor of the Corry United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be Panama Union Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Happy Hearts Day Care, 151 Maple Ave., Corry, Pa., 16407.

Frank J. Grisanti

FORESTVILLE: Frank J. Grisanti, age 86, of Prospect Road, Forestville died unexpectedly Sunday, November 14, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Grisanti was born June 1, 1918 in the Town of Hanover the son of the late William and Salvatora (Sciolino) Grisanti.
Mr. Grisanti was a graduate of Forestville High School class of 1936. He was a WWII Army Veteran and for many years he and his brother owned and operated a fruit farm in Forestville. He was a very talented artist.
Survivors include 1 sister Rose Benson of Dunkirk and 1 brother Bennett Grisanti of Fredonia. Also surviving are 3 nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Martha Seavona.
There will be no visitation observed, services will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville

Evelyn I. Carroll

IRVING: Evelyn I. Carroll, age 93, of Iola Drive, Sunset Bay, Irving, formerly of Buffalo died unexpectedly at (11:00 A.M.) Sunday, November 10, 2002 in Lake Shore Hospital, Irving,
Mrs. Carroll was born October 22, 1909 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha (Allen) Wagner.
Mrs. Carroll was an avid fisherman and loved her family.
Survivors include 3 sons, Robert B. Carroll of Forestville, Douglas G. (Norra) Carroll of Tonawanda, Brian D. Carroll of Sunset Bay, Irving and a daughter-in-law Mrs. Virginia Carroll of Lancaster. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband L. Stuart Carroll, by a son L. Stuart Carroll and by 2 brothers, Allen Wagner and Gerald Wagner.
There will be no visitation observed. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Kenmore, NY. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville.

John E. Earle

SOUTH DAYTON: John E. Earle, age 79, of Cherry Street, South Dayton died at ( 9:15 A.M.) Thursday, October 24, 2002 at his residence following a short illness.
Mr. Earle was born July 4, 1923 in the Town of Leon the son of the late Merritt and Anna (Eddy) Earle.
Mr. Earle was a self-employed carpenter and in later years had worked for union local #66 of Olean, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed hunting and making furniture.
Survivors include his wife Betty (Hodges) Earle of South Dayton, whom he married October 11, 1943 in Forestville, a daughter Suzanne B. Earle of Mentor, Ohio, 1 brother Richard Earle of South Dayton and 1 sister Genevieve Rowland of Leon. Also survivng are 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son Robert Earle who died in November 2000 and by brothers & sisters.
There will be no visitation observed. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Town of Dayton. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to Homecare/Hospice, 1225 West State Street, Olean, NY 14760 or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by the Riles Funeral Home, Forestville.

Perry H. Lee

FORESTVILLE: Perry H. Lee, age 79, of Forestville, died at (11:45 P.M.) Thursday, October 31, 2002 in Lake Shore Hospital, Irving,
Mr. Lee was born June 4, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Melvin and Theresa (McGrath) Lee.
Mr. Lee was a US veteran having served in the Coast Guard in both the Atlantic and South Pacific. He worked as a pressman for the former J.W. Clement in Buffalo, then for the former Arcata Graphics in Depew for a total of 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a lifelong member of the Pressmen-Assistants & Offset Workers Local Union #27 of Buffalo, where he also served as a union steward. Mr. Lee was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and was a former member of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville.
Survivors include his wife, of 58 years, Helen (Stanage) Lee of Forestville, 1 son Perry H. Lee, Jr. of Lexington, KY and 1 daughter Mary Ellen Decker of Dunkirk. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant son Charles Lee and by a brother Roger Lee.
Prayer Services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 o’clock from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Center Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Gerald P. Sheehan pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Prospect Lawn Cemetery, Hamburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, from 4-7 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held Sunday evening at 7 o'clock in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad, Chestnut Street, Forestville, NY 14062.

Jeannette D. Wills

FORESTVILLE: Jeannette D. Wills, age 71, of Route 39, Forestville, died at (11:54 A.M.) Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at her residence, following a short illness.
Mrs. Wills was born February 18, 1931 in the Town of Hanover, the daughter of the late Frank and Lulu (Edwards)  White.
Mrs. Wills had previously worked as a pizza delivery person for Ellie’s Deli in Silver Creek for 6 years and was an avid yard sale attendee.
Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Daniel (Leslie) DeWolf of Sheridan and 2 grandchildren Jennifer DeWolf of Sheridan and Sean DeWolf of Jamestown. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Melvin R. Wills, Sr., who died March 25, 1997, by a son Melvin R. Wills, Jr., who died August 30, 1969 and by a sister Alma Mason.
There will be no visitation observed. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday morning, at 11:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Judith M. Scott pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to HOSPICE Chautauqua County, Inc., 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757 or to the American Cancer Society.

Doris L. Dawley

SILVER CREEK: Doris L (Crandall) Pattison Dawley, age 81, of Hanover Road, Silver Creek died at (11:55 P.M.) Saturday, March 22, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Dawley was born June 9, 1921 in Town of Arkwright the daughter of the late George and Molly (Miller) Crandall.
Mrs. Dawley enjoyed working with flowers in her garden. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, reading, writing poems and fishing. Mrs. Dawley along with her first husband Stuart V. Pattison who died August 10, 1965, were charter members of the Grape Bunch Campers, Fredonia.
Survivors include 1 daughter Mrs. Richard (Joan) Kulpa and 1 son Ronald Pattison both of Silver Creek. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren , 6 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and first husband she was predeceased by her second husband Milford R. Dawley who died April 2, 1995, by a step-son Michael Dawley, by 1 brother Richard Crandall and by 2 sisters Anita Shaw and Marjorie Clark.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville with the Rev. Daniel Rutenber pastor of the Gage Chapel Community Church, Smith Mills officiating Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredonia. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made to HOSPICE Chautauqua County, 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, New York 14757.
