John Jacob Pohli
ONEONTA — John Jacob Pohli Sr., 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at The Meadows in Middlefield.
He was born May 2, 1917, in North Bergen, N.J., the son of John Jacob and Grace (Applegate) Pohli.
He is survived by his son, John J. Pohli Jr., and his wife, Lillian, of Otego; and grandsons, Aaron Pohli and his wife, Linda, of Syracuse and Michael Pohli of West Davenport.
Mr. Pohli was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Sorocco) Pohli; a sister, Ruth Pohli; and a brother, Buddy Pohli.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial with private services will be held at the Schenevus Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
Albena J. Baldwin
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Albena J. Baldwin, 90, of Richfield Springs, died early Thursday morning, Nov. 28, 2002, at Folts Home in Herkimer.
She was born on Jan. 16, 1912, in Richfield Springs, one of 16 children of Frank and Anna (Ronowski) Domion.
She married Raymond E. Baldwin on Dec. 21, 1935, in Richfield Springs.
In her youth, Albena attended Hyder Road School, a one-room schoolhouse near Richfield Springs.
At one time, she and her husband owned and operated the Westville Grocery Store. The majority of her years, though, were spent assisting her husband on their dairy farm in Richfield Springs, as well as serving as a homemaker and mother.
Albena is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, Raymond, of Richfield Springs; one daughter, Roberta Baldwin Crouth and her husband, David, of Richfield Springs; three granddaughters, Debbie Spadaro and her husband, Leonard, of Queens, Donna Mannella and her husband, Frank, of Herkimer, and Darlene Guardi and her husband, Robert, of Richfield Springs; five great-grandchildren, Christina Dolhun of Utica, April Anne Guardi, Melissa Guardi and Kayla Grippe of Ilion, and Matthew Spadaro of Queens; one brother, Leslie Domion and his wife, Gert, of Herkimer; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral service will be held at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Stephen J. Quinlan, co-pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Westville Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.

Alfred P. O'Dell
WALTON — Alfred P. O'Dell, 87, of Walton, passed away early Thursday, Nov. 28, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home.
He was born July 1, 1915, in Beaverkill, the son of Preston and Whilomenia McAdams O'Dell.
He was married 62 years to his loving wife, Daisy, who predeceased him three years ago.
He was a member of Laborers Local #7 for 49 years and had also worked a number of years at Bailey's in Walton.
He is survived by his son, James P. O'Dell, and his wife, Mary, of Walton; a daughter, Betty Locaso and her husband, Louis, of Downsville; three grandsons, Anthony Aldenbruck and his wife, Andrea, Dennis Von Aldenbruck and his wife, Kate, and Fred Reynolds Jr.; three granddaughters, Shari LoPresti and her husband, Peter, Nicole Weidecker and her husband, Paul, and Abbie Holm and her husband, John; five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; and his brother King O'Dell and his wife, Marie, of Downsville.
He was predeceased by his brother Richard and his sister Tressa.
There are no calling hours.
Burial will be in the spring at East Branch Cemetery.

Wanda DiGiacomo
MIDLOTHIAN, VA — Wanda DiGiacomo, 91, of North Spring Run Road passed away on Monday morning, Nov. 25, 2002, in her home.
She was born on June 12, 1911, in Richfield Springs, the daughter of the late William and Clara Gardner Osterhout.
Wanda was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. Upon graduating from high school, she furthered her education and was a graduate of the Leland Powers School of the Theater.
On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Salvatore DiGiacomo. After a loving and devoted union of 60 years, Salvatore preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2000.
From 1945 until 1954, Wanda was employed by the OSS/CIA, Washington, D.C., retiring in 1955.
All who knew her will remember her warm smile and friendly manner. She will never be forgotten.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally, and her husband, David, Zuck of Midlothian, Va.; two grandchildren, Jesse William Zuck and his wife, Stephanie, of Austin, Texas, and Alice Revere and her husband, Patrick, of Midlothian, Va.; a great-grandson, Gabriel Salvatore Zuck of Austin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held next spring in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs, at a time to be announced.

Ulah F. Hamm
COBLESKILL — Ulah Francis Hamm, 76, died Thursday, Nov. 28, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
She had lived in Meadow Park, Worcester, until entering the Eden Park Health Care Center in Cobleskill in February 2002.
She was born Oct. 5, 1926 in Richmondville, the daughter of Andrew and Frances Hayes Sperbeck.
She was the widow of James Hamm, who died in 1981.
Ulah had been employed at Cobel Sports Wear in Cobleskill as a sewing machine operator.
She is survived by a daughter, Robert (Dorine) Valenti of Providence, R.I.; a son, Willis Valenti of the state of Washington; a brother and sister, Harold and Edna Sperbeck, both of Richmondville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and two cousins, Esther Franqui and Betty Douglass, both of Richmondville.
Services will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 1 PM at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, Chapel Street, Cobleskill, with the Rev. Michael Terrill officiating.
Internment will be in the spring in Evergreens Cemetery, Jefferson.
Barbara M. Meehan
HARPERSFIELD — Barbara M. Meehan, 76, of Harpersfield, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at her residence, following a prolonged illness.
Mrs. Meehan was born in New York, the daughter of the late Francis and the late Isabelle McGonigle Freidly.
She was an area resident for 13 years, relocating from Teaneck, N.J
She was a nurses aide, and a longtime employee of Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck.
Mrs. Meehan was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, and a former parishioner of Saint Anastasia's R.C.C. in Teaneck.
She is survived by her four sons, Dr. Michael F. Meehan and his wife, Marie, of Harpersfield, Wayne D. Meehan and his wife, Yvette, of Montclair, N.J., Douglas J. Meehan and his wife, Brenda, of Brewer, Maine, Clifford Meehan and his wife, Marianne, of Sussex, N.J.; her beloved sister, Lucille McCarthy of Groves, Texas. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
James D. Meehan, her husband; and a son, Russell J. Meehan predeceased her.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St., Montclair, N.J.
Prayers will be said tonight at the funeral home in Stamford.
Prayers will be said Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at the funeral home in Montclair, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Cassian's R.C.C., Montclair.
Burial will be in the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

Rose M. Northrup
WALTON — Rose Marie Northrup, 74, of Walton, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in the Binghamton General Hospital in Binghamton.
Mrs. Northrup was born on May 13, 1928, in Campbell Mountain, the daughter of Drew and Mary Snyder Fuller.
She married Robert B. Northrup on June 3, 1945, in Walton. He predeceased her June 14, 1982.
She was a homemaker, who loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She spent her spare time crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, attending senior meals with her many friends, and was an avid reader.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary N. Thompson and husband, Irving, of Walton; a son, Bruce Northrup and wife, Su, of Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Janet (Northrup) Shannon, Robert Northrup II, Emily Barnes and Jason Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Amber, Robert and Ariel Shannon, and Adrianna Thompson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert B. Northrup; two brothers, Albert and Andrew Northrup; three sisters, Elizabeth Cornell, Bertha Hood and Jennie Rhinebeck.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 2, 2002, at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in the family plot at Paigeville Cemetery, Downsville.

Florence Glanzman
PORTLANDVILLE — Florence D. Glanzman, 99, of Portlandville, died Nov. 30, 2002, at the home of her son, David.
Florence was born Nov. 7, 1903, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Samuel and Theresa (Baker) Decker.
She married Guss Glanzman on Jan. 8, 1921, in Saint Elizabeth Church, Baltimore, Md.
Florence was a homemaker her entire married life and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She was also an avid artist and sold several of her paintings. This talent was evidently inherited from her father and passed on to her sons, two of whom are successful commercial artists.
She is survived by her sons, Louis Samuel Glanzman and wife, Francine, of Pine Barons, N.J., Samuel Joseph Glanzman and wife, Susan, of Maryland, and David Charles Glanzman of Portlandville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Guss Glanzman.
There will be no public calling hours or service.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Robert F. Meeker
OTEGO — Robert F. Meeker, 83, of county Highway 7, Otego, died on Dec. 1, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 24, 1918, in West New York, N.J., the son of Frederick H. and Grace (Buckley) Meeker. He was also the adopted son of Francis D. and Reta M. (Miller) Meeker of Unadilla, where he grew up.
Mr. Meeker graduated from Unadilla Central School in 1937, as valedictorian of his class. He continued his education at Colgate University where he concentrated in chemistry and physics, graduating in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Technical Service Unit from 1944 until 1946 on The Manhattan Project at both Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Mr. Meeker spent his 37 1/2-year professional career at Texaco, Inc. Research Laboratories in Beacon. He served first as an analytical chemist, with an emphasis on instrumental analysis. He later was promoted to Technologist, Railroad Technologist, and Sr. Technologist, assigned primarily to technical editing and writing.
He was the author or co-author of approximately 30 articles that appeared in the technical literature, and was editor of Texaco's magazine Lubrication, the only publication of its type abstracted by the Library of Congress.
He was awarded a Citation of Service by the American Petroleum Institute for his work on petroleum measurement.
He is survived by his second wife, Alice (Chamberlin) Meeker, of Unadilla. He is also survived by five children, Barbara Donegan of Pleasant Valley, Connie Wolcott of Raleigh, N.C., Kathleen Meeker of Oneonta, Robert Meeker of Beacon, and Diane Butler of Beacon; two stepchildren, Betsy Mazurak of Delhi and Jerry Smith of Yardley, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several stepgrandsons.
He was previously married to June Tompkins, of Beacon, who predeceased him in 1970; and two brothers, Frederick R. Meeker of Unadilla, in 1950, and Richard H. Meeker of Austin, Texas, in 1988.
Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at the Joyce Funeral Home, 179 Main St., Unadilla.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Main Street, Unadilla.
There will also be a memorial service held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at the Christ Methodist Church in Beacon.

John I. Burgin
FRANKLIN — John I. Burgin, 80, of Franklin passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born May 28, 1922, in Franklin, the son of George O. and Isabelle H. (Penfield) Burgin.
He married Patricia Jane Russell on July 22, 1950, in Glens Falls.
John was a graduate of Bainbridge Central School.
John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was discharged as a Special Artificer Optical Second Class. John was awarded the following: World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was active with the U.S. Navy Veterans organization with shipmates from the USS Delta.
After returning home from the service he attended the Philadelphia School of Horology for watch making and jewelry repair.
In 1986, he retired from Allied/Amphenol Corporation, in Sidney, where he worked for 38 years and was a member of the International Association of Machinist.
John was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Franklin, and served on the Vestry, Franklin American Legion, Franklin Fire Department, Ouleout Creek Golf Course, Franklin Central School Board of Education, Town of Franklin Planning Board, Franklin Recreation Commission, Past President of the Franklin Rotary Club, founder of the Burgin Open, and a Charter Member of the Franklin Emergency Squad.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia R. Burgin, of Franklin, N.Y.; his children and their spouses, daughter, Natalie B. and her husband, Gordie Daniels of Bainbridge; and son, John I. and his wife, Laurie N. Burgin of Binghamton; his grandsons, Russell John, and Cameron Burgin Daniels; and granddaughters, Patricia L., and Cassandra J. Burgin. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Holt of Frederick, Md.; two sisters-in-law; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Penfield Burgin of Franklin.
A service to celebrate the life of John I. Burgin will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Franklin, with the Vicar, Father Michael Shank, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin, where the Franklin American Legion will accord military honors.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, at which time the family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad.
