Elizabeth Petersen

SCHENEVUS — Elizabeth Evlina "Betty" Petersen, 87, passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Albany Medical Center.

She was born April 23, 1915, in West Hampton Beach, the daughter of James and Della (McAvoy) Bennett.

Betty married William Martin Petersen on Oct. 11, 1933, at St. James Methodist Church in Brooklyn. He predeceased her on Oct. 30, 1992.

The Petersens owned and operated the Petersen's Store in East Worcester for 10 years, then sold it to her niece, Betty, and her husband, Leo Killenberger.

She attended the Schenevus United Methodist Church.

Betty is survived by two sisters, Hattie Schambers of East Worcester and Doris Barry of Lutheranville; a brother, Raymond Bennett of Florida; 17 nieces and nephews; 63 great-nieces and nephews; 111 great-great-nieces and nephews; and 5 great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Bennett in 1991.

As per Betty's wishes, her body was donated to Albany Medical College as an anatomical gift.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jane Pykus, pastor of the Worcester United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will take place at the East Worcester Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.

Carolyn M. Zerello

ONEONTA — Mrs. Carolyn Marie Fournier Zerello died Nov. 17, 2002, at the Oneonta Nursing Home at the age of 95.

Carolyn was born in Albany, on Nov. 7, 1907, the daughter of John and Louisa Pecot Fournier.

Her family moved to Croton-on-Hudson, when Carolyn was a young child. Her father was an engineer on the New York Central Railroad and held numerous patents for train engines.

Her uncle, Francis Fournia, was a 1899 recipient of a Congressional Medal of Honor in the Spanish American War.

Carolyn was a graduate of the Croton High School in 1924, and went on to receive a degree in mathematics with minors in French and Literature from the College of Mount St. Vincent in 1928.

Her professional career was in banking, working in The Bank of New York until her retirement.

In 1961, she married Joseph Zerello in Croton-on-Hudson. Mr. Zerello was the Village Administrator for the village of Croton. After their retirements, they moved to Dennisport, Mass. Carolyn returned to live in Croton following her husband's death in 1972.

Carolyn loved literature, especially Dickens, Austin and English mysteries. She was an avid reader, theatergoer and traveler, and she loved to walk. She was a gifted needle-worker, especially museum quality crewel-work.

Throughout her life she was active in many organizations including the Rosary Society of the Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Croton-on-Hudson, the American Cancer Society, the Croton Yacht Club, the Alumni Association of the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and the Croton Senior Citizens.

In addition, Carolyn spent many hours in volunteer work in her retirement including the Croton Free Library, the Dennis Library, the Dominican Sisters of the Sick and Poor (now the Sisters of Hope), and as treasurer of the Carrie E. Tompkins Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Carolyn is survived by her stepdaughter, Francine Z. Stayter and her husband, Vincent, of Maryland; and by her beloved grandchildren, Zachariah Joseph Stayter of Albany, and Susannah Maria Stayter of New York City; and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Margaret Rudes; her brother-in-law, Carroll Rudes; and by her husband, Joseph A. Zerello.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson.

Memorial donations in Carolyn's name may be made to the Dominican Sisters of Hope, 299 N. Highland Ave., Ossining NY 10562-2327, or the Croton Free Library, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520.

The family would like to express special appreciation to the Croton Senior Citizens, Nancy and Joe Fiorito, Croton neighbors, Marie Brehm and Linda Potthast, and the caring staffs of the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home and the Oneonta Nursing Home.

Arrangements are by the Grummons Funeral Home in Oneonta.

Monte R. Domion

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Monte R. Domion, 59, of Gulf Road, passed away on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17, 2002, in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, with the comfort of his loving family at his side.

He was born on April 26, 1943, in Cooperstown, son of Janice Gaylord Domion and the late Phillip Sr. Domion.

A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.

He was an honorably discharged U.S. Air Force veteran.

On July 10, 1965, he married Jean M. Oakes in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. Together they owned and operated the Meadow Broke Dairy Farm in Richfield. Mr. Domion was also a seed dealer.

Monte was a hard worker and a devoted family man. He was an avid outdoorsman whose hobby was photographing wildlife. He had a fun-loving sprit and will always be remembered for his jokes and stories. His contagious laughter endeared him to everyone and he will never be forgotten.

He was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, a member of Farm Bureau and had served on the Richfield Town Planning Board.

Surviving besides his wife of 37 years, Jean, are two sons, Albert I. Domion of Richfield Springs and Adam J. Domion of Albany; a daughter, Monica M. Domion of Richfield Springs; his mother, Janice Domion of Easton, Pa.; two brothers, Phillip Domion Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, and James Domion and his wife, Kristin, all of Richfield Springs; four sisters and their husbands, Connie and Ray Nassar of Richfield Springs, Barbara and Fred Huyck of  Pennsylvania, Joan and Michael Lahr of  Texas, Jennifer and James Easton of  Pennsylvania; and several special nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Besides his father; two brothers, Eddie Domion and Lonnie MacIntosh, preceded him in death.

Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs, on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Joseph's Church Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terrance Healy officiating.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Carrie E. Moore

LAURENS — Carrie E. Moore, 67 years, of Laurens, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 16, 1935, the daughter of Clarence and Eveline (Graham) Coss Sr.

Carrie had a love for nursing. She worked as a nurse at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, for more than 20 years, having to retire in the 1990s due to failing health.

But Carrie still enjoyed taking care of her family and many, many friends. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time in the outdoors, whether it be camping or just being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness, West Oneonta.

She is survived by her daughter, Hazel Clow, of Laurens; four sons, Harold "Mac" Moore Jr., of Garrattsville, Richard "Rick" Moore of Laurens, Donald Moore of Edmeston and Frank Moore of Edmeston; nine grandchildren, Shawn Clow of Wells Bridge, Keisha Faulkner of Masonville, Jared Moore of Cheyanne, Wyo., Justin Moore of Otego, Nastassja Blasetti of Oneonta, Ashley Moore of Oneonta, Jessilyn Moore of Oneonta, Matthew Moore of Edmeston and Brianna Lynn Moore of Edmeston; four great-grandchildren, Megan Faulkner of Masonville, Bailey Faulkner of Masonville, Caden Clow of Wells Bridge and Austin Faulkner of Masonville; one sister, Polly Oliver of Franklin; three brothers, Albert Coss of Margaretville, Clarence "Butch" Coss Jr. of Walton, and Bill Coss of Manhattan, Kan.; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Carrie was predeceased by her parents; one son, Roger Dale Moore; one sister, Minnie Rowe; and one brother, George Coss.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Joshua Mientke Elder from the congregation of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness presiding.

Burial will be in the spring at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Calling hours will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at the funeral home, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Stella S. McKenna

DELHI — Stella S. McKenna, 107, this area's oldest resident, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Nov. 18, 2002, at the home of her daughter, at Elk Creek, Delhi, where she had been residing for the past six years, according to the funeral home.

The daughter of Francis and Mary (Becker) Schnell, she was born Jan. 22, 1895, in Paterson, N.J., and was the widow of Walter F. McKenna, who died in 1949.

A longtime resident of Bergen county, N.J., Stella was a graduate and oldest alumna of Montclair State College; taught in New York City public schools in Harlem for 40 years and, subsequently, for 10 years at Mt. Carmel parochial school in Tenafly, retiring when she was 80.

She continued to teach Sunday school until the age of 95 years, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of which she was a parishioner, in Bergenfield, where she lived for many years before coming to Delhi.

The featured subject in a video produced by her alma mater when Stella was 104, she was a remarkable lady and conversationalist, maintaining her wit and sense of humor until her final illness.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Rose Marie and George Sheehan of Delhi, and Sister Margaret McKenna, C.S.M.M., New Jerusalem Laura, Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance 7 to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Thursday, at her parish, St. John's Church in Bergenfield, with burial following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.

Memorial contributions to New Jerusalem Laura, 2011 W. Norris St., Philadelphia, PA 19121, will be appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet & Son, Delhi.

Derek J. Soued

RAMSEY, N.J. — Derek Jeffrey Soued, 19, of Ramsey, N.J., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.

He was the beloved son of Barbara (nee Johnsen) Soued and Jeffrey Soued, and stepmom, Lorraine. He was the loving brother of Erica Michelle Soued. He was the stepbrother of Lindsey and Barrett. He was adored by his maternal grandparents, Roy and Elizabeth Johnsen; and paternal grandmother, Neva Soued; and the late Albert Soued.

Derek was a Ramsey High School graduate, Class of 2001, a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, and was a full-time student at Bergen Community College.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at the Van Emburgh-Sneider Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave., Ramsey, N.J.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Ramsey, officiated by the Dr. Rev. Carol Brighton. Interment to follow at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Derek Jeffrey Soued Educational Foundation.

Nancy A. Coager

GRAND GORGE — Nancy A. Coager, 43, of Grand Gorge, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at the Robinson Terrace in Stamford, where she had been a resident since 1998.

She was born May 29, 1959, the daughter of William E. Coager and Bertha Mackey, in Bathgate Hospital, Stamford.

She attended Grand Gorge Central School, Grand Gorge.

She is survived by her mother, Bertha Coager, Grand Gorge; brother, Edward Thomas Coager, Grand Gorge; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, William E. Coager, on Feb. 16, 2000.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at the United Methodist Church, Grand Gorge, with the Rev. Robert Nash, assisted by Russell Sheehan, officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Contributions may be made in memory of Nancy A. Coager to the Robinson Terrace Memorial Fund, Stamford; or the Delaware County A.R.C. Program, Walton.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Robert M. Stebbins

VESTAL — Robert M. Stebbins, 76, of Vestal, died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Stebbins, Vestal; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Alan Heywood, Remsen, and Karen Stebbins, Kirkwood; two sons, Richard Stebbins, Binghamton, and David Stebbins, Erie, Pa.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was a retired employee of NYSEG and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott, with Deacon Dominic Rossi officiating. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the Allen Memorial Home, Endicott.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Jessie M. Cable

OXFORD — Jessie M. Cable, 83, a resident of the New York State Veteran's Home, Oxford, and formerly of Masonville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at her residence.

She was born April 6, 1919, in Corbett, the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Palmer Burdick.

She was married to Virgil Cable, who predeceased her several years ago.

She is survived by a son, Richard Daniels, Greene; sister, Barbara Barry, Unadilla; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A son, Elmer Palmer, predeceased Jessie.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at the Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, with the Rev. Robert Howard, pastor of the Masonville Federated Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Leon E. Joubert

PITTSFIELD — Leon E. Joubert, 57, of Pittsfield died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Fox Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Sept. 9, 1945, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Paul and Cecile (Courture) Joubert.

He was married to Donna (Uveges) Joubert, a marriage of more than 30 years.

He was employed by Schwans of Oneonta, and before that he was employed by BK Coffee of Oneonta.

He had resided in this area for the past 15 years and was formerly of Keansburg, N.J.

He was a member of the South New Berlin Horseshoe Club and was an avid bowler and loved to go camping. Leon had the ability to put a smile on everyone's face.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Pittsfield; his children, Cherie Flannery and husband, James of Oneonta, Billie Jo Powers of Poughkeepsie, Melanie and Megan Grace Joubert of Pittsfield, Leon Joubert Jr., and wife, Wendy of Davenport, Michael Joubert and companion, Cheryl Vessely of Oneonta, Mark Joubert and companion, Erica Schrader of Florida, Matthew Joubert and his wife, Melissa, of Vestal. He was always known as Pepe to his 13 beloved grandchildren, who include Barbara Ann, Amanda and James Flannery, Jessica and Evan Sawyer, Kassidy and Jacob Joubert, Katrina and Shane Joubert, Michellene, Dionna, Shamira and Stanley Powers.

He is also survived by his sister and brothers, who include Precilla Bryall of Maine, Dina Barrows and companion Dave of Massachusetts, Beatrice Joubert of Connecticut, Paul Joubert and wife JoAnn, Arthur Joubert and companion Annie and Joseph Joubert, all of Massachusetts. Along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Martha B. Martin

SIDNEY — Martha B. Martin, 77, of Sidney passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in  Johnson City.

She was born April 29, 1925, daughter of the late Everett and Margaret Galvin Bidwell in Sidney.

Martha married William D. Martin on May 7, 1948, in Milford. William predeceased her on Jan. 11, 1990.

She managed the Family Barging Center and later the Jamesway in Sidney for many years.

Martha is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Ann Martin, Sidney and Craig and Judy Martin, St. Petersburg, Fla.; four sisters, Beverly Woodford, Long Island, Frieda Putnam, Massachusetts, Dorotha Volt, Colorado, and Barbara Schweighofer, Sidney; six grandchildren, Lori Greim, Heather and John Azard, Nicole and Thomas Green, Brian W. Martin, Stephen Martin and Sandra Martin; and one great-grandchild, Jessica Greim.

She is also predeceased by her brother, Dutch Bidwell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Patricia Robinson, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Sidney, officiating.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 356 N. Midler Ave., Syracuse, NY 13206 or the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
