Mary Carle Learn
WAVERLY — Mary Carle Learn, 84, of Waverly and formerly of Sidney, passed away peacefully Friday evening, Sept. 20, 2002, at the Tioga Nursing Home, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Kingston, Pa.
She graduated from Nesbitt Hospital School of Nursing and following her sense of adventure, she worked as a registered nurse in Detroit, Baltimore and Washington.She married Lester Learn on June 11, 1945, in Kingston, Pa., and moved to Sidney after her husband's discharge from the Navy.
Together they raised three daughters, Virginia Fust of Rexford, Susan (Frank) Bennett of Chemung and Marilyn (David) Brazinski of Endicott.
After Lester's death in 1966, Mary continued raising her children while working as an office nurse for Dr. Elliott Danforth.
With her children grown, Mary again followed her sense of adventure and moved to Easton, Md., and then to Annapolis, Md.
When her grandchildren arrived she moved to Albany to be closer to her family. She continued to work in her profession until her retirement from the Guilderland Nursing Home. Upon retirement, she moved to Waverly, and enjoyed the time she spent and the friends she made volunteering at the Robert Packer Hospital.
She is survived by her three daughters; grandchildren, Christopher Fust, Lauren and Daniel Bennett, Scott and Kristin Brazinski; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Lester; twin brother George Carle; brother, Myron and Ellis Carle; and sister, Mildred Jones, predeceased her.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 23, 2002, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the Sidney United Methodist Church, officiating.
Friends may call from noon until services at 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
Burial will follow services in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Jeanne E. Driscoll
S. HADLEY, Mass. — Jeanne E. (Wright) Driscoll, 53, of Pittroff Avenue, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at home.
Born in Oneonta, N.Y., on Oct. 13, 1948, she moved to S. Hadley at a young age and was a graduate of S. Hadley High School.
She formerly worked as a loan collection officer at the former Community Savings Bank at its main office in Holyoke. She had most recently been the office manager at Chapdelaine Home Furnishings in S. Hadley for five years.
Jeanne spent some of her leisure time knitting and crocheting afghans and baby blankets for family friends. She also loved to garden and to travel.
Her family and friends were an integral part of her life, and she had a special weakness for all animals.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Timothy J. and her daughter, Andrea J. Driscoll, both of S. Hadley; her sister, Teresa and her husband, Edward Sylvia, of Milford, Conn., share the loss, along with her niece, Shelley and her husband, Mark, Tomey, her nephew, Edward S. Sylvia and a grandniece, Schuyler Tomey, all of the Connecticut area. She also leaves two close cousins, Deborah Atchinson and Andrea Reubens.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in the Beers & Story S. Hadley Funeral Home.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester, N.Y.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 23, 2002.

Nora T. Flynn
FISHKILL — Nora T. Flynn, 64, passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1937, in the Bronx, the daughter of Michael Hussey and Emily Rodden.
She lived in the Dutchess County area since 1971.
Since 2000, she was employed as the chief clerk for the Westchester County Family Court. She has worked for the Family Court for the past 16 years.
She was a member of the St. Mary, Mother of the Church, in Fishkill.
She is survived by her son, David Flynn and his wife, Jennifer, of Oneonta; daughter, Christina Fisher and her husband, Robert, of Wappingers Falls; brothers, John Hussey of Bronx and David Hussey of Riverhead; grandchildren, Emily and Joshua Flynn; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held Sunday 7 to 9 p.m.
Calling hours also will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 23, 2002, at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Jackson Street, Fishkill.
Interment will be in the St. Denis Cemetery in Hopewell Junction.

Jane E. McCarthy
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Jane E. McCarthy, of Myrtle Beach and formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in Myrtle Beach.
She was born in Oneonta, a daughter of the late Charles and Ella Hanlon McCarthy.
Miss McCarthy graduated from the State University College at Oneonta and received her master's degree from Queens College, Long Island. She was a teacher in Manhassett, N.Y., for many years.
She was an avid golfer, a member of Pine Lakes International Country Club, Oneonta Country Club and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
She is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Margaret E. Jones of 604 61st Ave., Myrtle Beach S.C., 29577; two nephews, Col. Thomas Otto, U.S. Army retired, of Springfield Va., and Steven Otto of Bedford, Texas; and a sister, Barbara Varano.
A sister, Mary Virginia Otto, predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca.
The family will receive friends today at the McMillan-Small Funeral Home from 4 to 5 p.m.

Marguerite Borden
ONEONTA — Mrs. Marguerite I. Borden, 84, of Oneonta died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Fox Hospital Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born Dec. 19, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Ica (VanBumble) Short.
She married Dewaine D. Borden on Oct. 7, 1939, in Oneonta. Mr. Borden predeceased her on May 6, 1974.
Marguerite was a lifelong area resident.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Decker of Fulton; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Sandy Borden of Sidney; her grandchildren, Bryan Borden of Utica, Michael Borden of Durham, N.C., Bill Hoffman of Gilbertsville, Pa., and Karen Burden of Fulton; her great-grandchildren, Nicole, Allison, Stephanie and Carl Burden Jr. all of Fulton, Amber and Cassie Hoffman of Gilbertsville, Pa., and Jacob Borden of Durham, NC; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Marguerite was predeceased by her son-in-law, Charles Decker; her sister, Nellie Sisson; her stepsister, Frances Jenkins and her stepbrother, Vyrle "Virgil" Stillwell.
Funeral and burial services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, at which time the family will be present.

Richard Clair
BAINBRIDGE — Richard Gordon Clair, 78, of Bainbridge passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
He was born March 17, 1924, to the late Mildred F. Clair in Herkimer.
Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Pauline Elderkin on Sept. 3, 1948.
Mr. Clair was employed as an auto mechanic for Demeree's Chevrolet in Bainbridge, and later worked for the Western Delaware BOCES as an auto body instructor until he retired.
Dick was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 806 in Bainbridge and member of the Tri-Town Kiwanis and Twin River Sertoma. He also volunteered in the Bainbridge Soup Kitchen, Cub Scouts and the Special Olympics.
Dick enjoyed bowing, traveling and was a fanatic about cars.
Being the devoted husband, father and grandfather, he supported all of his children and grandchildren's sports and activities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pauline Clair, Bainbridge; sons, Gary Clair and fiance, Susan Ives, Bainbridge, Gordon Clair and life mate, Kathy Scott, Sidney, Kevin and Nancy Clair, Auburn, N.H., and Brian Richard Clair, Bainbridge; daughters, Joanna and Guy Long, Homeville, Pa., Lynn and Jeff Whitaker, Sidney, Lorraine and Richard Cummings, Mocksville, N.C., Paula Doreen Clair, Unadilla, Karla and Tom Spychalski, Unadilla, Teri and Ron Jones, Norwich, and Kelly Whitney and fiance, Al Hartman, Holiday, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Bainbridge, with the Rev. Tony Hipes, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Bainbridge and the Rev. David Kleinstuber, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Sherburne, officiating.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Soup Kitchen.

James F. Talbot
MORRIS — James Francis Talbot, 91, of Morris died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born in Burlington Flats on May 23, 1911, the son of Dr. Harold Ward Talbot and Beatrice (Smith) Talbot.
He attended West Winfield Central School until his father's death, at which time he went to live with his paternal grandparents until he was 15 years old. He then lived with his maternal grandparents in Binghamton.
He was married to Mildred (Richards) Talbot on May 25, 1934, in Morris. She died March 7, 1989.
James worked in the defense plant in Detroit and then at the Scintilla Corp. of Sidney, as a machinist for more than 35 years.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, James Talbot and wife, Marjorie, of South Carolina, Gary Talbot and wife, Joanne of Gilbertsville, Thomas Talbot and wife, Winifred of New Lisbon, and Michael Talbot and wife, Christine of Gilbertsville. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Randolph Palada officiating.
Committal service and burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Morris Emergency Squad in his memory. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Robert Cammer
CONESVILLE — Robert Cammer, 81, of Conesville passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002.
He was born in Conesville on Oct. 31, 1920, son of the late Cecil A. and Florence E. (Wade) Cammer.
Robert was a lifelong farmer, a member of the Schoharie County Farm Bureau, a former town councilman for the town of Conesville, a member of the Conesville Volunteer Fire Co. and a former fire commissioner.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen (Rogers) Cammer; a daughter, Sharon Fancher and her husband, Everett of Conesville; a son, David Cammer and his wife, Peggy of Conesville; his grandchildren, Brian Fancher and his wife, Karen, Darren Fancher and his wife, Christine, Robert and Amanda Cammer; his great-grandchildren, Dylan and Cole Fancher; also several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Sheldon Cammer; and a sister, Marilyn Bedford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the Decker Funeral Home in Windham. Friends may call at the Decker Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville.
Those who desire may contribute in his memory to the Conesville Rescue Squad.

Roy Lobdell
BAINBRIDGE — Roy Lobdell, 81, of Bainbridge passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.
He was born July 2, 1921, son of the late Cecil and Wilma McCreary Lobdell in Capital Hill, Okla.
Roy served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He married Maud Fitzsimmons on Dec. 17, 1976, in Sidney.
Mr. Lobdell was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix in Sidney when he retired in 1982.
He was a member of the West Bainbridge Baptist Church and a life member of the D.A.V.
He is survived by his wife, Maud Lobdell, Bainbridge; son and daughter-in-law, William and Becky Lobdell, Houston; stepdaughter and her husband, Jo Ann and Duane Cooper, Yellow Springs, Ohio; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Jean Lobdell, California, and Buddy and Kate Lobdell, Trinity, Texas; three grandchildren, Kent and John Lobdell, Houston, and Micah Cooper, Oxford, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at C.H. Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Jeff Cutting and the Rev. David Wood of the West Bainbridge Baptist Church, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Bainbridge Baptist Church.
