Loretta B. Kolvik
GARRATTSVILLE — Loretta B. Kolvik, 76, died peacefully at her home in Garrattsville.
She was born Oct. 12, 1925, in the Bronx, the daughter of John and Loretta (McGrath) Brophy.
She married John Kolvik on Oct. 21, 1945, in the Bronx. He died Sept. 30, 1983.
Loretta was a homemaker and super mom. She had resided in Garrattsville for over 31 years and had previously lived in Paramus, N.J.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church of Morris.
Her hobbies were ceramics, knitting and crocheting, but most of all she enjoyed her family and grandchildren, giving them unconditional love.
Loretta is survived by her children, Richard Kolvik and his wife, Debra, of Morris, Kristopher Kolvik and his companion, Karen Pasternak, of Morris, Daniel Kolvik and his wife, Dona, of Pittsfield, Karen Bodie and her husband, Chuck, of New Berlin, Loretta, Erna, Elaine and Teresa Kolvik, all of Little Ferry, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Lynda Kolvik of Stockholm, N.J. She was blessed by her grandchildren, Tracy, Michael, Richard, Sara, Erik, Elizabeth, Dakota, Blaize, Chance, Chase, Danielle, Leanne and Lindsay; along with two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Nathan; a sister, Eileen DeSotto; and her dear friend, Kitty Heelein; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, John Kolvik, who died Aug. 20, 1999; two sisters, Eleanor Gaul and Kathleen D'Avanzo; and a brother, Michael Brophy.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the Holy Cross R.C. Church in Morris, with the Rev. John Burns officiating.
Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
Ellis N. Sanborn
ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Ellis Norris Sanborn, 83, of Orange Park, Fla., and formerly of the Cooperstown area, died April 24, 2002, in Florida.
He was born on Oct. 15, 1918, in Waterville, Maine, a son of Ellis A. and Mina (Southard) Sanborn.
At one time, Mr. Sanborn was employed by Bendix in Sidney and later the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown where he served as a greenskeeper.
A veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, Mr. Sanborn was a former member, past vice commander and chaplain of the Sidney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7194. He was a life member of the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 in Cooperstown, and enjoyed tending bar at the Cooperstown Vets Club on Hall of Fame weekends.
A devoted member of the Freemasons, Mr. Sanborn was raised a Master Mason on Dec. 1, 1950, in Sea and Field Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons in Syracuse. He later affiliated with Clinton-Hampton Lodge No. 347, F.&A.M., in Westmoreland and at one time was a member of Otsego Lodge No. 138, F.&A.M., in Cooperstown. He was also a member of the Royal Arch Masons and Ziyara Shrine Temple.
He is survived by a daughter, Diedre Hicken, and her husband, David, of Orange Park, Fla.; a son, Colby Sanborn, and his wife, Cindy, of Clinton, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren, Adrianne, Justin, Darienne, Jillian, Eric, Shanyea, Karyn, Irene and William Hicken, and Mark and Gregory Sanborn.
He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Mulkins Sanborn, who died Dec. 24, 2000.
A Masonic graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, conducted by brothers from Otsego Lodge No. 138, F.&A.M., in Cooperstown.
Military honors will be accorded by members of the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston VFW Post No. 7128, in Cooperstown.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Otsego Lodge No. 138, F.&A.M., 77 Main St., Cooperstown, NY 13326.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
William A. Bird
BAINBRIDGE — William A. Bird, 72, of Bainbridge, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1929, in Overton, Pa., a son of Richard T. and Mildred Mulnix Bird.
William served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
In 1955, he had moved from the New Albany area to New York.
He was a former member of the Overton Community Church (formerly the Overton United Methodist Church); and was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post, Sidney.
Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was employed by the Bendix Corp. in Sidney. He worked on jet ignition units, and received a patent from the Bendix Corp.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and especially time spent golfing. He enjoyed repairing anything electronic.
Surviving is his wife, Doris Robinson Bird, at home; three children and spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dale and Virginia Bird, of Mt. Kisco, Mr. and Mrs. Walter John and Shawn Bird, of Marcellus, and Ms. Suzette Elaine Loitsch, of Bainbridge; by his seven grandchildren, William, Lianne, Geena, Jamie, Eric, Andrea and Michael; a sister, Doris Dibble of New Albany, Pa.; a brother, Max Bird of Yuma, Ariz.; and 11 nieces and nephews.
It addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cyril Atley Bird and Donald Eugene Bird.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, Pa., with the Rev. Ronald Troup, pastor of the New Albany United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Louise B. Carey
ONEONTA — Louise B. Carey, 67, of Oneonta, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born April 26, 1935, in Walton, the daughter of William P. and Julia (Adams) Bruce.
She married Donald F. Carey on May 13, 1956.
A resident of Oneonta for the past 40 years, Louise was an avid bingo player for many years in the area.
Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald F. Carey of Oneonta; her six children, JoAnne (Carey) DeGraaf and her husband, Raymond, of Oneonta, a daughter, Deborah E. Carey of Astoria, Queens, a daughter, Julia M. Carey of Morris, a daughter, Cindy (Carey) Hendrickson and her husband, John, of Milford, a son, Thomas W. Carey of Oneonta, and a daughter, Penny Sue Carey and her fiance, Jeff Songdale of Maryland; her grandchildren, Jennifer Rachelle Carey of Astoria, Queens, Raymond Michael Degraaf of Meridale, Tiffany Jo Degraaf of Oneonta, and Kendra Lyin Carey of Oneonta. Also, Michael and Lisa Hendrickson of Davenport and Raymond Hendrickson of Bloomville; also, a brother, Billy Bruce of Endwell.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. John Doughrety officiating. Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral, during which time the family will be in attendance.

George P. Misencik
JORDANVILLE — George P. Misencik Sr., age 82, of Hicks Road, Mohawk, passed away on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica.
He was born on March 5, 1920, in Maynard, Ohio, son of the late John and Mary Keba Misencik. His youth was spent in Ohio, where he graduated from Saint Clairsville High School.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945, with the rank of sergeant.
After the war he joined his parents and brother, Walter, on the family dairy farm.
On Feb. 17, 1946, he married Martha Halkowich in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.
He had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs.
For 35 years he was a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post No. 25, Mohawk.
George was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Martha; a daughter; Joyce Owsinski of Middle Village, Queens; three sons and their wives, George Jr. and Alice Misencik of Hartwick, David and Dorenda Misencik of Phoenix, Ariz., John and Linda Misencik of Mohawk; eight grandchildren, Ben, Michael and his wife, Lai Owsinski, Ryan and his wife, Becky Misencik, Raymie, Randy, Nicole and Josh Misencik, Todd, Brad and Ethan; one brother, Richard Misencik of Middlesex; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter L. Misencik; and his son-in-law, Walter Owsinski.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Joseph Benintende officiating.
There are no calling hours.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Cedarville Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Charles Tarricone
ONEONTA — Charles Tarricone, 79, of Oneonta, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Greenpoint, the son of Nick and Lena (LaStella) Tarricone.
He married Jane Tambasco on May 29, 1952, in Queens. She passed away on Aug. 29, 2001.
Retiring in 1989, Mr. Tarricone owned and operated a produce market in Queens for 30 years.
A local resident for the past seven years, moving here from Flushing, he was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Italian American Club.
Mr. Tarricone had 9,000 volunteer hours at the Fox Hospital Nursing Home.
He is survived by his children, Linda and Jim Mussler of Nesconsit, and Dr. Nick and Patti Tarricone of Oneonta. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Charlie, Katie and Matthew Tarricone, and Denise and Eric Mussler; along with several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
There will be no formal calling hours.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Anita R. Whalen
ONEONTA — Anita R. (Conigliaro) Whalen, 68, of Oneonta, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born June 21, 1934, in Oneonta, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Signorino) Conigliaro.
She was married to Buster Whalen. He predeceased her several years ago.
A homemaker, Anita was a member of St. Mary's Church, Oneonta.
She is survived by three aunts, Josephine Spinola and Rose Macaluso of Oneonta, and Antoinette Bartilotti of Johnson City; her nieces and nephews, Nancy and Mike Snyder of Afton, Joe and Debbie Conigliaro of Hatsfield, Pa., Lori and Mike Canny of Sanitaria Springs, and Ann Marie and Ron Gilinsky of Florida; four great-nieces, Julie, Brooke, Mariah and Ashley; along with several cousins and many friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Conigliaro.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Afton Glenwood Cemetery, Afton.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.

James Allan Brown
DELHI — James Allan Brown, 41, of Delhi, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Bovina.
He was born May 3, 1961, in Delhi, the son of Allan and Maxine (Dubben) Brown.
A graduate of Delaware Academy, Delhi, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca.
A Delhi businessman, Mr. Brown was owner/manager of Dubben Gas Service.
Jim was an avid motorcycle enthusiast traveling through many states.
In the winter, his love turned to the snowmobile.
He married Kelli Grogan in March 1993 in Cobleskill.
Survivors include his former wife, Kelli Grogan Brown; his two sons, Joseph Everett Brown and Patrick Grogan Brown; his parents, Allan and Maxine Brown; brother, Randall Brown and his wife, Susan, and Michael Brown and his wife, Elizabeth; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Dubben; grandmother, Erna Brown; his nieces, Emma Brown and Ana Brown; and nephew, Joshua Brown; an uncle, William Dubben; and several cousins and many, many friends.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
