Peter Semiz Jr.
JEFFERSON — Peter Semiz Jr., 73, died on June 29, 2002, at Northeast Center for Special Care, after a long illness.
Peter was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Bergenfield, N.J.
He married Lillian Brower on June 14, 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Jefferson; a brother, Tita Semiz of New Jersey; three nephews, Alan Wyman and his wife, Linda, of Hobart, James Brower of Caldwell, N.J., and Peter Brower of Walton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2002, at the Hall Funeral Home, at 40 Main St. in Stamford, with the Rev. Elliot Oakes officiating.
Interment will be at the George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, N.J., at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2002.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home of Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.
Marguerite E. Rosenstein
SIDNEY — Marguerite E. Rosenstein, 82, of Sidney, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford.
She was born Sept. 16, 1919, daughter of the late Gerald and Gilberta Manderville Hine in Hobart.
Marguerite attended and graduated from Bainbridge Central School in 1937.
She then married Paul E. Rosenstein on Sept. 16, 1944. Paul predeceased her on Dec. 10, 1994.
Mrs. Rosenstein was employed as a senior companion for LARC of Sidney.
She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 502, serving as past treasurer. She was also a member of the Charles L. Jacobi Post No. 183 American Legion Auxiliary and the Sidney Lodge No. 2175 B.P.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her two sisters, Marian Goodrich Johnson, Endwell, and Evelyn Lynch, Deltone, Fla.; brother, Ronald Hine, Roscoe; grandson, Scott McDonald, Ridgecrest, Calif.; granddaughter, Michelle McDonald Smith, Bakersfield, Calif.; niece, Elizabeth Haynes, Bainbridge; and son-in-law, John McDonald, Desert Hot Springs, Calif.
She is also predeceased by her daughter, Janice McDonald; grandson, Mark; and sister, Betty Gruver.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. David Wood officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers, Inc. Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
Robert Zurawski Jr.
WESTFORD — Robert J. Zurawski Jr., 21, died on Monday, July 8, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident in the town of Maryland.
He was born July 18, 1980, in Riverhead, the son of Robert J. Zurawski Sr. and Elizabeth Ferguson.
Bob was a graduate of Schenevus Central School, Class of 2000.
He was an assistant manager at NAPA Auto Parts Center in Worcester.
He is survived by his mother, Liz Zurawski and Carter Cook of Westford; his father, Robert J. Zurawski Sr. and wife, Debra, of Jamesport; grandparents, Walter and Barbara Michalowski of Riverhead, and Edward and Ruth Zurawski of Jamesport; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2002, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester with the Rev. Edward Golding officiating.
Burial will take place at the Westford Cemetery on Thursday following the service.
Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.
John J. Dolezel
EAST WORCESTER — John J. Dolezel, 86, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born Dec. 29, 1915, in East Jordan, Mich., the son of John and Mary (Shipperly) Dolezel.
He married Marjory Truax on June 2, 1945, in Warrington, England.
Mr. Dolezel was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1942 to 1945, obtaining the rank of captain in the Medical Corps.
He was a resident of Royal Oak, Mich., and since 1968, has spent summers in East Worcester caring for the family homestead.
Mr. Dolezel retired as manager in the Chevrolet Financial Organization. He was employed for the Chevrolet Motor Division for 45 years.
He was a member of the American Legion in East Jordan, Mich., and the Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Royal Oak, Mich.
He is survived by his wife, Marjory; one sister, Josephine Moody of Fenton, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2002, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant.
Burial with military honors will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Mr. Dolezel to the Reserve Officer Association, 1 Constitution Ave. NE, Washington, D.C. 20002-5655 or the American Legion in East Jordan, Mich. 49727.

George B. Grant Jr.
ONEONTA — George B. Grant Jr., 52, of Oneonta, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 30, 1949, in Queens, the son of George B. Grant Sr. and Ann (Lenihan) Grant.
George served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, with a tour of duty in Vietnam.
He was most recently employed by the Neptune Diner.
George was a loving and caring father, son and brother. He had many friends, and was known for his generosity.
He is survived by his daughters, Casey and Jamie Grant of Oneonta; his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Dennis Grant of Binghamton, Daniel and Dale Grant of Copiague, Kathleen and Steven Hill of Afton, John and Denise Grant of Davenport, and Michael and Elvie Grant of Virginia Beach, Va. He is also survived by his former wives, Judith Grant of Alburg, Vt., and Rose Grant of Oneonta; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother in 1988; a sister, Loretta Ann McHale; and a sister-in-law, Jane Grant.
A service to celebrate the life of George B. Grant Jr. will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2002, in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, with Deacon Thomas Babiuch of St. Mary's Church, officiating.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Helen Schultz
ONEONTA — Helen Schultz, 80, of Oneonta, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 30, 1921, in Cohoes, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Haitko) Wislous.
Mrs. Schultz worked for several stock firms in the New York City and Nashville, Tenn., areas, and was last employed by J.C. Bradford Brokerage in Nashville, Tenn.
She has been a resident of Oneonta since 1977, and also spent several of her younger years in the Oneonta area before moving to NYC.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta.
She is survived by two brothers, Alex Wislous of Oneonta and William Wislous of Binghamton; a nephew, Victor Wislous of Loudenville; and Arlene Turner of West Oneonta.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with Deacon Thomas Babiuch of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
There will be no calling hours.
Gerald H. Allen
MARYLAND — Gerald Herbert Allen, 21, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Dec. 1, 1980, in Oneonta, the son of Terry Allen and Kathleen Zindle.
He was the manager of Pizza Hut in Cobleskill.
Jerry attended the Schenevus Central School and received his GED in 2000. He enjoyed 4-Wheeling, his job and loved his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Kathy Palmeter and her husband, Mark of Maryland; his father, Terry Allen and his wife, Mari of Schenevus; a son, Keegan Allen, and his son's mother, Alicia Amo of Maryland; three sisters, Jennifer Allen and her son, Brandon Pindar of Schenevus, Stacy and Steven Fancher and their children, Austyn and Ashton Raymer and Shaylee Fancher of Harpersfield and Melissa Allen of Schenevus; a stepbrother, Eric Palmeter of North Carolina; a stepsister, Kimberly Palmeter of New Jersey; his grandparents, Herb and Barb Zindle of Guilford; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Gerald Allen; and his grandmother, Pauline Smith.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2002, with the family in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2002, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Schenevus, with the Rev. Thomas Snyder, pastor, and the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, officiating.
Burial will be at the Schenevus Cemetery. Following the burial friends are invited to join the family at the Moose Club in Oneonta.
Contributions may be made in loving memory of Jerry to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, NY 12155.

Ralph M. Barnard
SIDNEY — Ralph Myron Barnard, 73, of Sidney, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his home.
He was born Feb. 25, 1929, son of Ralph J. and Edith S. Hess Barnard.
Ralph served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. in the Fleet Marine Force stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and aboard the USS George Clymer APA-27.
He married Nancy J. Frank on July 15, 1950.
Ralph was employed for 20 years at Scintilla ECD in Sidney, then he and Nancy purchased and operated Barnards Riverside Cleaners from 1968 until they retired in 1987.
Barney was a member of the Sidney Fire Department, Sidney Moose Lodge, Unadilla Rod and Gun Club, Sidney Cardinals Football team, and the Sidney Golf and Country Club. He was a life member of the Sidney Elks, Past commander of the Sidney American Legion, and an honorary life member of the Sidney V.F.W.
Barney enjoyed stock car and sports car racing and was inducted into the Old-Timers Stock Car Hall of Fame in 2000.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Nancy Barnard, Sidney; mother, Edith Barnard, Norwich; four sons, Michael James and partner, Alberta Hall, Sidney, Thomas Edward and Dorothy of Las Vegas, Nev., Douglas Judson and Susan of Ceiba, Puerto Rico, and Scott David, Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Nicholas, San Diego, Calif., Ryan and Autumn, Ceiba, Puerto Rico, and Jeff, Pennsylvania; great-grandchild, Dylan, Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law, William Frank, Florida, Robert Frank, Binghamton, and Richard "Butch" Frank, Walton; sisters-in-law, Ellen Woods Gennarino, Unadilla, and Phyllis and Howard Chase, Unadilla.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney, with military honors.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2002, when the family will be in attendance at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. There will be Moose Service at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad or the First Congregational Church of Sidney.

Mary V. Miller
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Mary V. Miller, 91, formerly of Pearl River and Rock Stream, died Tuesday morning, July 9, 2002, at The Meadows.
Mary was born on May 20, 1910, in Brooklyn, a daughter of Peter and Victoria (Kochonic) Podgradski.
She married John M. Miller on June 6, 1956, in Elkton, Md. Mr. Miller died in November of 1996.
Raised in Brooklyn, Mary received part of her education there and later went on to attend Rosemary, a place she especially liked, on Long Island.
She then devoted the rest of her life to raising and caring for her family. For many years, she was employed in the food services division of American Cyanamid, a pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Pearl River.
Mary is survived by her five daughters, Fernande Dykstra and her husband, Fred, of Cooperstown, Jean Stahlman and her husband, Walter, of Naples, Rosemary Linguanti of Middletown, Joan Dorlon of Amsterdam, and Helen Lucciola and her husband, Rudy, of Campbell Hall; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; her sister, Pauline Dustman of Nyack; and her brother, Thomas Podgradski of New City.
Services will be private.

Helen Campbell
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Helen Bertha Seymour Campbell, 102, of Ormond Beach, Fla., died June 23, 2002, at the Ormond in the Pines Adult Retirement Home, where she had lived since 1990.
Born on June 18, 1900, in Cooperstown, she was married to George Campbell.
Helen was employed by General Electric in Syracuse from 1943 until 1965, and lived in Baldwinsville until 1990, when she moved to Ormond Beach.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Campbell; and her daughters, Alice, Edith and Rose.
Burial will take place on the Seymour lot in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery at the convenience of the family later this summer.
