Philip H. Conley
CLEARWATER, Fla. Philip H. Conley, 82, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, Clearwater, Fla.
He was born in Jamaica, N.Y. to Walter J. and Zena Sikes Conley.
He attended Cranford High School in Cranford, N.J.
During World War II, he was manager of ship loading at Bayonne Naval Base in New Jersey.
After World War II, he moved to Schenevus, N.Y., where he worked in the Worcester, N.Y. Grange Store. At one time, he also worked at the Cooper Inn in Cooperstown, N.Y., and later ran a transportation serviceΚ in Sharon Springs, N.Y. He became a chauffeur for a lawyer in Kingston, N.Y., before moving to Florida.
He moved to Clearwater in 1984, where he married Marguarite Brown. She predeceased him.
Philip was a member of the Skycrest United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a stepson, L.H. Palmer, Lakeland, Fla., and three stepdaughters, Patricia Lacy, Mary K. Rose and Natalie Garretson, all of Clearwater, Fla. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul B. Conley of Schenevus and J. Allison Conley of McLean, Va., and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his oldest brother, Meredith S. Conley of Cranford, N.J.
Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, in Sylvan Memorial Park, Clearwater, Fla.
Arrangements were by the Sylvan Abby Funeral Home of Clearwater, Fla.
Frank E. Stacey
SIDNEY Committal services for Dr. Frank "Doc" E. Stacey will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Donald Bourgeois of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bainbridge officiating.
Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
Thomas E. Reilly
COOPERSTOWN Thomas Edward Reilly, 68, of Cooper Place in Cooperstown, died Tuesday morning, June 18, 2002, at The Meadows.
Edward was born on April 1, 1934, in Port Chester, a son of Thomas and Margaret Byrnes Reilly.
He attended George Washington Elementary School in Port Chester and then entered Don Bosco Seminary in Newton, N.J., where he completed his high school education.
After attending Iona College in New Rochelle, he moved to Cooperstown in 1953, and lived with relatives at Fairview Farm in Pierstown where he assisted in farm work.
Upon the death of his great uncle, Charles E. Knowlton in 1960, Edward assumed partnership of Fairview Farm with his great aunt, Harriet Drake Knowlton, operating it until the cows were sold in 1974.
The following spring he came under the employ of Mrs. Joseph Campbell until 1979, when he entered into employment at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. He was involved with the housekeeping department until his retirement on May 1, 1996.
An active and devoted communicant at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, Edward, in his humble way, acted as the Lord's servant around the church complex.
His love of dairy farming and rural life led to his roles in Grange activities. He was a member and past master of Pierstown Grange No. 793, P.O.H., serving as master for six years, and was also a Seventh Degree member of the National Grange.
Edward is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Margaret Reilly Antalee and her husband, Joseph, and Mary Helen Reilly Cooke, all of Port Chester; his aunt with whom he made his home, Katharine B. Hanor, of Cooperstown; and several cousins, including Richard Richardson and his wife, Diane, of Winter Park, Fla., and Cooperstown, and James Byrnes of Cooperstown.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stephen Reilly, who died in 1992.
The Rite of Reception of the Body and the Vigil Service will take place at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Andrew W. Cryans, visiting priest, officiating at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2002. Edward will then lie in state in the church sanctuary, with his family receiving friends until 9 p.m. that evening.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2002, at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John P. Rosson, pastor, presiding and the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor emeritus, and the Rev. Andrew W. Cryans, as co-celebrants. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Index.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Ralph G. Wheeler
SOUTH NEW BERLIN Ralph G. Wheeler, 84, longtime South New Berlin resident, passed away Monday afternoon, June 17, 2002, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., Ralph moved to the Morris area at an early age with his family. He grew up and attended school there, and for a period of time after his schooling he worked for the local veterinarian, Dr. Reed.
Ralph then gained employment with the Manor House in Morris, where he worked for three years before entering the U.S. Army in April of 1942. He served his country until his honorable discharge in October of 1945, when he returned to South New Berlin.
Working for a brief time with Bendix (Scintilla) of Sidney, Ralph subsequently began his 31-year career with Reese Marshall Oil Co. and its predecessors, which ended with his retirement in 1979.
Ralph was dedicated to his family. His main objective in life was to be sure that they were cared for. In keeping with this philosophy, he became involved in his sons' Cub Scout and Boy Scout activities during their younger years.
He was also deeply involved in his community, being one of the founding members of the South New Berlin Fire Department and serving for a time as its assistant chief. He was also South New Berlin's fire commissioner for a while, as well as being a member of the Harold McIntyre Legion Post #1289 of South New Berlin.
Born Feb. 13, 1918, Ralph was the son of Edward and Mary (O'Connor) Wheeler.
On Dec. 4, 1941, at home in South New Berlin, he married Corda Phetteplace, who survives. Besides his wife, Corda of South New Berlin, Ralph is survived by his sons, Paul Wheeler and wife, Brenda, of Norwich, and Michael Wheeler and wife, Barbara, of Elizabeth, Colo.; his grandchildren, Ira Wheeler and wife, Valerie, of Brisben; Todd Wheeler and wife, Phyllis, of Oxford, and Erin Steffeck and husband, Matthew, of Green Bay, Wis.; by his sister, Louise Leach of Maryland; and by his brother, Francis Wheeler and wife, Virginia, of Florida. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Gaven Wheeler, Lacy Wheeler, Austin Wheeler, Brendan Wheeler and Sean Wheeler.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Harry and Edward Wheeler.
Funeral services for Ralph will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Simpson, Baptist clergy, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Jason A. Durso
WESTFORD Jason A. Durso, 27, of Westford, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, as a result of an accident in the town of Milford.
He was born Feb. 2, 1975, in Huntington, the son of Louis and Mary (Boehm) Durso.
Jason was a sales associate in the seafood department of Hannaford Food & Drug Superstore in Oneonta.
Jason graduated from Middle Island High School; Middle Island, N.Y., and U.T.T., Phoenix, Ariz., where he studied to be an auto mechanic.
He moved to the area nine years ago from Yaphank.
He is survived by his parents, Louis and Mary Durso of Westford; two brothers, Joseph and James Durso of Long Island; a grandfather, Angelo Durso of Smithtown; an uncle, Albert and his wife, Donna, and their son, Michael Boehm of Selden; two aunts, Elisabeth Boehm of East Northport, and Adeline and her husband, Ralph Bensinbenga, of Smithtown; his niece and nephew, Justin and Amanda Durso; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by a grandmother, Mary Durso.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert W. Busch, pastor at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Oneonta, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Westford Cemetery.

Wayne F. Rice
WORCESTER Wayne F. Rice, 67, passed away at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany on Tuesday, June 18, 2002.
He was born July 25, 1934, in Freeport, the son of Fred and Elizabeth (Alstadt) Rice.
Mr. Rice was a resident of Hobe Sound, Fla., for the past three years, formerly of Duck Key, Fla. He has been a summer resident of Worcester for 27 years.
He was the founder of Rite Tank Cleaning in Central Islip.
He is survived by his wife, Susan (Geraghty) Rice; his daughters, Beverly Nickerson, Jacqueline Belezos, Susan Butler, Jean Cerniglia, Theresa Arduino and Kimberly Mancini; sons, Scott Rice and Jeffery Rice; his mother, Elizabeth Gaska; brother, Robert Gaska; grandchildren, Michele Nickerson, Jason Rice, Ryan Cerniglia, Alyssa Belezos, Samantha Rice, Crystal Rice, Christina Belezos, Alexis Belezos and Morgan Butler.
He was predeceased by his grandson, William Nickerson.
Calling hours will be held at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21, 2002. A vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian burial will at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2002, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant.
Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Rice to the American Heart Association.

Wayne F. Crawford
NEW BERLIN Wayne Francis Crawford, 41, of New Berlin, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
He was born Dec. 4, 1960, in Oneonta, the son of Francis and Marjorie (Thayer) Crawford.
He was married to Cindy Naas on Oct. 3, 1981, in the United Methodist Church in New Berlin.
He was a lifelong area resident and had recently created and was operating his own construction firm with his sons in the New Berlin and Pittsfield area, realizing a lifelong dream.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Cindy; his sons, Francis and James of New Berlin; his father, Francis Crawford of New Berlin; a brother, Lynn Crawford and his wife, Patricia of New Berlin; and a sister, Linda Crawford of Florida.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2002, in the Fairview Cemetery in New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin, officiating.

Paul S. Farmer
ONEONTA Paul Stuart Farmer, 73, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Albany Medical Center, Albany, after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Canton, Pa., the son of Albion C. and Veda (Allen) Farmer.
He attended and graduated from the local schools as he was an area resident for the past 65 years.
Paul was a Fireman First Class in the U.S. Maritime Service from September 1945-February 1946, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a member of the 11th Airborne Division having served in Sendai, Japan, during World War II, until his honorable discharge in January 1948.
He married Margaret T. Adams in Oneonta on Nov. 26, 1949. His wife of 43 years predeceased him on Jan. 14, 1993.
Paul and Margaret made their home in Oneonta, where Paul was employed by Asplundh Tree Expert Co., of which he was vice president/manager of the Upstate New York Division from 1980 until his retirement in 1989.
Paul was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1249 from 1967 until 1989.
He also operated Oneonta Tree Service for a number of years.
He was a member of the Oneonta American Legion and VFW.
Paul enjoyed spending his free time at his camp in Pennsylvania, being a lover of animals and the great outdoors.
He is survived by his four daughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Paula S.) Christman, Oneonta; Margaret A. Morales, Oneonta; Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. (Susan M.) Wolfe Jr., Milford; Deborah J. Farmer, Otego; and Michael Morales, Maryland; seven grandchildren and spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Asuka) Christman, Lacey, Wash.; Mr. Daniel Christman, San Jose, Calif.; Ms. Laurie Morales, Oneonta; Ms. Karen Morales and Mr. Jordan Rosen, Albany; Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Carla) Wolfe III, Oneonta; Mr. Paul Wolfe and Ms. Betina Tatum, Mooresville, N.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Steven (Ashley) Wolfe, Mooresville, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Caela, Chandler, Angela, Casandra and Cody; one brother, Kenneth Farmer, Murphy, N.C.; two sisters, Veda Bryant, Oneonta; and Pauline Mattice, Sidney; his beloved dog, Bear; his dear friend, Melvin Cooke; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers, Marion Hickok, Laura Eddy, Charlotte Westcott, Albion Farmer and Raymond Farmer.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta, when the family will be in attendance.
Funeral services for Mr. Farmer will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2002, at Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Edward Carlson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
