Carl M. Roberts
SHERBURNE — Carl Martin Roberts, 90, formerly of Sherburne and Oneonta, and most recently a resident of the Residential Heath Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital, passed away Monday morning May 20, 2002, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cooperstown, Carl grew up in the Milford area and attended the Milford schools; in his early years in Milford, he picked hops for a hop farmer in Middlefield Center.
For more than 40 years, Carl made his home in Oneonta, where he was employed by the Enders Furniture Store and its successor, Style Wright Furniture Store, working as a floor salesman and retiring in 1976.
In 1980, Carl and his wife moved to Sherburne, where they lived until entering the Residential Health Care Facility. Over the years, and in his retirement, Carl enjoyed fishing.
Carl was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Cooperstown, the son of William and Emma (McAvany) Roberts. He married Mary Taite in Great Bead, Pa.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mary Roberts; by his daughter, Audrey Bramer of Norwich; his granddaughter, Debra Zampetti and her husband, Victor, of Norwich; and by his great-grandson, Shaun Zampetti of Norwich.
Carl was pre-deceased by his sisters Edna Cooper, Flora Kirby and Bertha Frazier and his brothers, Harvey and Elton Roberts.
Funeral services for Carl will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Maryland Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.
Douglas B. Parsons
SIDNEY CENTER — Douglas B. Parsons, 79, of Sidney Center, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, N.Y.
He was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Walton, N.Y, the son of the late D. Wesley and Grace Terry Parsons.
On Aug. 17, 1946, he married Mary Jane Steffen in Franklin, N.Y.
Doug was a retired machinist for the Amphenol Corp., Sidney, N.Y. He retired May 30, 1985.
He was a charter member of the Ouleout Post 1689 American Legion, Franklin, and was a present member of the Charles L. Jacobi Post 183 American Legion, Sidney.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Parsons, of Sidney Center, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Nancy Parsons of Sidney Center, Jack and Debra Parsons of Brandon, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah and David Barnes of Masonville, N.Y., and Stephanie Parsons of El Verano, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Virginia Parsons of Walton; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
A sister, Marjorie Yarnes, predeceased her brother.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Ouleout Valley Cemetery Franklin, with the Rev. Kipp Stratton, pastor of the Unadilla and Sidney Center United Methodist Churches, officiating.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception at the Maywood Historical Depot, Sidney Center, at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the New York State Veterans Home Memorial Fund, Oxford, NY 13830.
Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Richard L. Welch
SCHENEVUS — The committal service with full military honors for Richard "Dick" Welch, who passed away on Dec. 21, 2001, will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
Arrangements are with the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
Lillian Cole
ONEONTA — Lillian Cole, 84, of Oneonta, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 17, 1917, in Schenectady, the daughter of Leonard and Rose (Van Valkenburg) Cole.
Miss Cole was a graduate of Cobleskill High School, Class of 1935.
In her earlier years, Lillian was employed at General Electric in Schenectady and in 1958, after moving to Oneonta, was employed at the Candy Counter at Bresee's Department Store in Oneonta until her retirement in 1979.
She was an active member of the Main Street Baptist Church and also did volunteer work at Fox Nursing Home and A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her twin sister, Lela Vrooman of Cobleskill; her sister, Mrs. Paul (Edith) Henry of Oneonta; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2002, when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will be in Sloansville Cemetery, Sloansville.
Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
Floyd S. Finch
ARKVILLE — Floyd S. Finch, 82, of Arkville, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Countryside Care Center in Delhi.
He was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Arkville, son of Charles and Amanda (Van Valkenburgh) Finch.
He married Bernice Guild on Feb. 25, 1940, in Fleischmanns. She died Jan. 22, 1989.
Floyd was a resident of the Fleischmanns and Arkville areas most of his life.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from April 12, 1945, to Dec. 7, 1945.
Floyd was a logger and truck farmer. Later he worked with his sons on construction projects. Before retirement he worked on the home farm in the stone quarry.
He was a member of American Legion Post 216, Margaretville, and attended the Clovesville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his two sons, Raymond Finch of Arkville and Roy Finch of Bloomville and daughter, Kathleen Finch of Delhi. He is also survived by grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Floyd are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
Marion L. Boerner
ONEONTA — Marion L. Boerner, 84, of Oneonta, N.Y., died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Norwich, N.Y.
She was born March 4, 1918, in New Berlin, N.Y., to Fred and Katherine (Harrington) Moak.
Mrs. Boerner was a homemaker, having resided in the Oneonta area since 1980. She previously resided in Marathon, Fla., where she was very active in volunteer work at several local hospitals.
She was a graduate of Syracuse University's Class of 1940.
Mrs. Boerner was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Oneonta and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son and his wife, William and Ro Boerner of Otego, N.Y.; a sister, Ellen Lloyd of New Berlin; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
A private memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family.
Cremation will take place at Hillington Crematorium of Morris, N.Y.
There are no calling hours.

Louise May Mosher
EAST WORCESTER — Mrs. Louise May Mosher, 88, of East Worcester, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her residence.
She was born May 25, 1913, in Franklin, N.Y., the daughter of Sylvester and Huldah (Bohlmann) Hungerford.
She married William O. Mosher on May 3, 1951, in West Nyack, N.Y. Mr. Mosher predeceased her on Aug. 19, 1976.
Louise owned and operated Morey's Hotel in East Worcester from 1968 to April 1981.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, May 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, with the Rev. Jay Henderson, chaplain at Catskill Area Hospice, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
Ethel J. Sorensen
ONEONTA — Ethel Jane Sorensen, 99, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Oneonta Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was born July 29, 1902, in Davenport, N.Y., daughter of James Sr. and Ella Skmerhorn Dodge.
She married Ejner Nikolaj Sorensen in Davenport in 1937. Mr. Sorensen died in 1985.
She was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Oneonta Nursing Home community for the past 15 years.
She was a mother and homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters and one son, Anna Pearson, and her husband, Ivan, of Oneonta, Dagmar Potter and her husband, Donald S. Sr., of Franklin and Aage Scott Sorensen and his wife, Margaret, of Oneonta; grandchildren, Sherry Ann Earl of Unadilla, Ivan Pearson of Westmoreland, Bill Pearson of Oneonta, Laura Hurley of Oneonta, Dan Sorensen of Moriaville, Michael Mongillo of New Zealand, Jane Winkler of Unadilla; son-in-law Tony Mongillo and wife, Annie, of Oneonta; eight grandchildren; and one great-great grandson in Tennessee.
Her husband Ejner Nikoloj Sorensen, daughter Laura Mongillo and granddaughter Rose Dewey, wife of Rob Dewey of Unadilla, predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held at Oneonta Nursing Home on Thursday, June 6, at 2:45 p.m. Cremation will take place at Hillington Crematory in Morris.

Mary J. Raitt
DELHI — Miss Mary Janette Raitt, 84, of Delhi, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at O'Connor Hospital.
The daughter of the late Thomas A. and Mary (King) Raitt, she was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Southern Bovina, was Andes Central School valedictorian, Class of 1936, and received her formal education at Spencer Business School, Kingston, after which she was secretary to Rabbi Herbert Bloom in Kingston.
After World War II, Mary moved to New York City where she worked part-time for the Boy Scouts of America, then as secretary for the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkin, Wharton and Garrison, from which she retired in 1980. She returned to Delhi a year ago, where she lived with her niece.
Despite a life-long handicap, her family was proud of her many accomplishments, not only in her business life, but also as an avid pianist, artist, writer and contract bridge player.
Mary was pre-deceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Isabel and Henry Schall; sister-in-law, Helen Raitt; and nephew, Thomas Schall.
Surviving are her loving brother, John E. Raitt of Delhi; seven nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and nephews; and eight great-great-nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 22, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance after 1 p.m., and funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Arvid Whitmore, with burial following in the Bovina Cemetery.
