Roger W. Landers

OXFORD — Roger W. Landers, 84, of 14 Mechanic St., Oxford, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born on April 12, 1918, in Whitney Point, the son of the late Erford and Lula (Weaver) Landers.

On Sept. 17, 1940, in Oxford, he married Irene Barnes, who survives.

Besides his wife, Irene; he is survived by his children, Donna and Edward Somers of Oxford and Keith Landers of South Edmeston; his grandchildren, Stephen and Shannon Lindridge of Newark Valley, Scott and Tina Lindridge of Preston and Chad Somers of Oxford; and his brother and sister-in-law, David and Marie Landers of Bloomsburg, Pa. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles Landers and John Landers.

Roger and his family moved to Oxford in 1926 from Whitney Point.

He graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School in 1936, and the State University College of Technology at Delhi in 1938.

He was a fire inspector and a former member of the Board of Directors of Chenango Cooperative Insurance for many years.

He was a longtime member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, served on the committee for the current church and was a member of the church board for many years.

He was a member of Oxford Lodge No. 175 F&AM and a member and past patron of Lafayette Chapter No. 340 OES.

He served in the Oxford Fire Department for 50 years and was currently an honorary member of the department. He was a member of the Oxford Rod & Gun Club.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2002, from the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, with the Rev. Philip Thorick, pastor of his church, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.

Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, where members of Oxford Lodge will conduct a service at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich.

Matty Mulqueen

MORRIS — Matty Mulqueen, 93, of Morris, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at his home in Morris.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1908, in Brooklyn, the son of John and Mary (Hearn) Mulqueen.

He was married to Jane DeFriesse on April 28, 1928, in the Bronx. They had been married for more than 69 years at the time of her death on Dec. 27, 1997.

He had worked as a bartender for many years and more recently as the maintenance supervisor for the New York State Police Troop C Headquarters in Sidney for 10 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Mulqueen were caretakers at the Copes Corners Park in Gilbertsville for more than 16 years.

He had resided in the Butternut Valley for more than 47 years.

He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose Club and the Elks Club.

Matty is survived by his children, Mary Fontana and her husband, Larry, of Lindenhurst, Clara Mulqueen of Tennessee, Matthew A. Mulqueen of North Hill,  Calif., and Joan O'Brian of California.

He was blessed with many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and special friends, who loved him dearly.

A brother, Simon Mulqueen, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2002, and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Burns officiating.

Committal services and burial will follow at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

Those who wish are asked to donate to the Morris Emergency Squad in his memory.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Michael J. Fennell

PITTSFORD — Michael J. Fennell, formerly of Fairport, entered into eternal rest after a courageous battle with non-smokers lung cancer, May 15, 2002.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Erin (Gallagher); three children, Ryan, Kaelan and Meghan; parents, Joseph Fennell and Norma Fennell; sister, Pamela (Bruce) Baker; brother, Tim (Judy Mayne) Fennell; nieces and nephews, Matt and Maggie Fennell, E.J., Julia and Kate Baker; as well a multitude of supportive friends.

A graduate of Fairport High School, and LeMoyne College, Mike played eight years with the New York Yankees Organization. Mike was the McQuaid Varsity Baseball coach.

Friends are welcome to call at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, Egypt location, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 150 Varinna Drive, Rochester (Brighton), with private entombment,  White Haven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fennell Children Fund, in care of Pamela Baker, 500 Allen Creek Road, Rochester, NY 14618.

'Stan' Jarvis

COOPERSTOWN — Committal services for "Stan" Jarvis, who died Feb. 9, 2002, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Salenda C. Bush

DeLANCEY — Graveside services for Salenda C. Bush, who died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi, will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the Hamden Cemetery, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Richard L. Tracy

MORRIS — Committal services for Mr. Richard Leon Tracy, who died Jan. 20, 2002, will be held in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002.

Margaret Lasher

WEAVERVILLE, N.C. — Margaret Ann "Peggy" Lasher, age 52, of 14 Leisure Lane, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Peggy was born Feb. 25, 1950, in Cooperstown, N.Y., and had been a resident of Weaverville since 1965.

She graduated from North Buncombe High School and Western Carolina University with highest honors "Summa Cum Laude."

She was employed at Lasher and Associates and formerly employed at Sybron- Taylor for a number of years.

She was an active member of St. Eugene Catholic Church and was involved with the youth programs.

Peggy was an avid bird watcher and a member and past president of the Elisha Mitchell Audubon Society. She also served as vice-president and education chair.

She was a motivating presence behind the Beaver Lake Sanctuary in Asheville. Her dedication and commitment to the project helped ensure its success. She was loved by her fellow Audubon members, and her smile and enthusiasm will be missed.

Surviving are her parents, Henry A. Lasher Sr. and Margaret Vertucci Lasher of Weaverville; brothers, Rich and his wife, Jackie, Reese and his wife, Jan, Ernie and his wife, Becky, all of Weaverville, Henry Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Mars Hill and Mike and his wife, Teresa, of Bahama, N.C.; 14 nieces and nephews, Joe, Amy, Henry III "Ben," Tammy, Kelly, Mark, Jennifer, Jessica, Clint, Ryan, Stephen, Johnny, Kate and Meggie Lasher; a great-niece, Molly; and a great-nephew, Joey Lasher.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Eugene Catholic Church with Deacon Michael Zboyovski officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.

At other times, the family will be at the home of Henry and Margaret Lasher, 16 Sunset Dr., Weaverville, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the Elisha Mitchell Audubon Society, P.O. Box 18711, Asheville, N.C. 28814-0711 or St. Eugene Catholic Church, 72 Culvern St., Asheville, N.C. 28804.

Mahlon P. Clark

SAN ANTONIO,  Texas — Mr. Mahlon P. Clark, 84, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, in San Antonio,  Texas.

He was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Hartwick, N.Y., the son of Henry M. and Thressa C. (Parr) Clark.

Mahlon graduated from Oneonta High School, Class of 1936. He then attended New York University.

He married Betti Connery on July 1, 1949, in San Antonio,  Texas.

In November 1938, Mahlon enlisted in the United States Air Force in which he made his career. He retired May 1959, as a lieutenant colonel as a hospital administrator.

After his retirement from the Air Force, Mahlon was the chief of security for Eastern Airlines. He then was the administrator at Doctors Hospital in Miami, Fla., and he then became the business administrator for Dade County Health Department.

Mahlon enjoyed his coin collection as well as boating, fishing and flying.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Betti C. Clark, of San Antonio,  Texas; two sons and their wives, Wayne and Barbara Clark of Miami, Fla., and David and Carol Clark of Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kimberly and her husband, Daniel, of Sandy, Utah, and Kristen Clark of Palm Beach, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Bethany and Andrew Stovall.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the Hartwick Cemetery, Hartwick, N.Y.

There will be no calling hours.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either the Salvation Army, River Street, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Hartwick Baptist Church, Hartwick, NY 13348 in loving memory of Mahlon P. Clark.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Marshall J. Dibble

NORTH FRANKLIN — Marshall J. Dibble, 88, of North Franklin, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

He was born May 11, 1913, in Hollicott Center, the son of James and Rena (Constable) Dibble.

He married Lena Epps in North Franklin on Nov. 18, 1939.

Mr. Dibble was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

He has been a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Dibble was a longtime employee of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad in Oneonta and was also employed at the Franklin Central School for a short period of time as a school bus mechanic; he retired in 1979.

He was a life member of the Oneonta VFW and a former member of the Oneonta Moose and Eagles Club and the Franklin American Legion.

He is survived by his wife at home; five brothers, Everest of Morris, Donald of South New Berlin, Leo of Waterloo, James of Delhi and Charles of Zephyrhills, Fla.; one sister, Viola Hiatt of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by six brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Burial will follow in the Ouleout Cemetery in North Franklin.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
