Beverly A. Jacobs
ILION - Beverly A. Jacobs, 78 of Brook Street, passed away in her sleep at the Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 after a long illness.
Beverly was born in Troy, NY in 1933 and was a long time resident in the Mohawk Valley during her adult years. Beverly was employed by multiple generations of families as a housekeeper and babysitter and was best known for her love of those children.
Beverly enjoyed singing, choir, travel, boating, swimming, card games, knitting, beading, and sewing. She was a member of the Valley Health Center’s Bell Ringing Choir and attended New Life Church and Ministry Center in Herkimer, NY
She is survived by her son Joe Talcott, Herkimer, NY; her sister Lois Jacobs of Poughkeepsie, NY and the many families, individuals and friends that were fortunate enough to have her part of their lives.
Calling hours and a memorial service will be at the Applegate- Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd. Ilion, NY, from 3-6 pm April 30, 2011. A religious service will be held at 4:30pm on Saturday, April 30, 2011 with Deacon Mike Sweet officiating.
Flowers and/or donations to the Herkimer Area Resource Center, Valley Health Services or the YMCA’s Child Advocacy Center of Herkimer County in Beverly’s name would be greatly appreciated.

Pamela “Pam” R. Meakim
ILION - Pamela “Pam” R. Meakim, age 60, of 14 W. North St., Ilion, died on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford.
She was born on February 17, 1951, in Utica, NY, the daughter of Frank and Betty (Marley) Meisenheimer. She was a graduate of Remsen High School, and attended Nyack College. Pam was married to Jonathan “Jon” Meakim on October 2, 1976, in Utica. In her earlier years, she was a Trail Guide for horse riding stables. She was a member of Christian Bible Church, Mohawk. Pam loved her family and animals, especially horses.
Survivors include her husband, Jonathan “Jon”; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve and Pam Meakim, of New City, NY, and Robert “Rob” Meakim, of Ilion; her mother, Betty Meisenheimer, of Ilion; a sister, Joyce Meisenheimer, of Ilion; a brother, William Meisenheimer, of Florida; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; her brother-in-law, Sam Meakim, of Ilion, and two sisters-in-law, Ruth McDonald, of Frankfort, and Mary Kojetin, of Ilion. She was predeceased by her father.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend Pam’s Memorial Service on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 7 p.m., at the Christian Bible Church, 167 Ward Rd., Mohawk, with Pastor Ed Reed, officiating. The family will have visitation with friends and relatives at the church, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, just prior to the Memorial Service.
Pam’s family wishes to thank the CCU Staff at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare for the excellent care given to Pam during her sickness.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Bible Church or the Stevens-Swan Humane Society of Utica. Special envelopes will be available during church visitation and service, and anytime at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (895-7722).
The Meakim and Meisenheimer familes have chosen their family Funeral Director Don Applegate to arrange and supervise Pam’s visitation and services.

Ronald E. "Ron" Jensen
July 31, 1947 - April 24, 2011
SCHUYLER - Mr. Ronald E. “Ron” Jensen, age 63 of 257 Joseph St. (Bono Trailer Park), town of Schuyler, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday evening, April 24, 2011 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
He was born on July 31, 1947 in Ilion, son of the late Edward and Evalena (Saunder) Jensen and graduated from Ilion High School. He was married to Madeline in the First Baptist Church on April 13, 1996, Ilion enjoying a union of 15 year filled with mutual love and commitment. Ron was last employed with Granny’s Kitchen, Frankfort. He was a proud Veteran having served with the US Air Force. Ron was a licensed extra class amateur ham radio operator. He attended the New Life Church and Ministry Center of Herkimer.
Survivors include his family; his wife of 15 years, Madeline of Schuyler; a step son: David Loiacano and wife Diana of Birmington,  Washington; a step daughter: Christine Loiacano of Baldwinsville; a brother: David Jensen and wife Julie and children of Little Falls; a brother in law: Frank Lombardo and wife Carol of Herkimer; his step grandchildren: Antonio, Dominique, Dwayne, Mark and Adrian; his close friends: Don Rasmussen, Thelma Putnam, Trisch, John, Michelle and Melissa McGowan, Joannie Miller and Bob Quackenbush and many devoted neighbors including the Bono Brothers (Joey, Jimmy and Jack) of Schuyler. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Jensen.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service commencing at 10 am on Friday, April 29, 2011 from New Life Church and Ministry Center, 337 Protection Avenue, Herkimer with Pastor David Hayner, officiating. Visitation will take place from 9 am until 10 am prior to the service at the church on Friday. Procession will take place to Oak Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force.
The family offers their deepest gratitude to the many relatives and friends for their acts of kindness during this difficult time and also to Pastor Charity and her husband Brian. Also, a thank you to Hospice Care, Inc. for their professionalism. Arrangements are under the guidance of Daniel J. Enea, Funeral Director, Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Frankfort/Ilion.

Mr. Robert “Andrew” Little
Little Falls: Mr. Robert “Andrew” Little, 88, a longtime Little Falls area resident and businessman, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011.
Mr. Little was born on February 13, 1923 in Little Falls, a son of the late Gordon D. and Frances (Race) Little. He was educated in Little Falls Schools and graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Andrew married the former Esther Davy on June 22, 1946 in the First Presbyterian Church in Little Falls. They enjoyed a loving union of 52 years until Mrs. Little’s passing in 1998. He especially enjoyed their Elderhostel vacations together.
Andrew enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a recipient of the D Day Battle Award and as a part of Patton's 3rd Army, fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He also was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster because he was twice wounded in battle in Germany. He subsequently lost the medal and Rep. Sherwood Boehlert was instrumental in locating his military records, which had been lost in a fire at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO, which allowed him to receive a replacement. Rep. Boehlert presented Mr. Little with the Purple Heart, stating, “I’m honored to award Mr. Robert Little with the Purple Heart he earned defending our nation during World War II. Mr. Little has made countless sacrifices on and off the battlefield for his fellow man, and deserves to be recognized. It’s a privilege to award Mr. Little his well-deserved Purple Heart Medal.”
Mr. Little was the Owner/Manager of Andrew Little & Sons Lumber Co. in Little Falls. He, at one time, was employed with Herkimer County Trust.
Andrew was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Little Falls, Dolgeville Masonic Lodge, Little Falls Civic Club, Little Falls Rotary, and Little Falls Historical Society. He was a former Chairman of the Northern District of the Boy Scouts of America, and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was part owner of the trotting horse Breezy Knoll Elite. He enjoyed raising the horse and watching her race. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association.
Andrew is survived by his loving family, sons, Andrew Little, II and his wife Julie of Dolgeville, and The Reverend David G. Little and his wife Jo of Nicholson, PA, and a daughter, The Reverend Heather Little-Andrade and her husband Stephen of Dighton, MA. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Peter Little and wife Julie Beth, Nathan Little and wife Keari, Emily Little and husband Jesse Tafoya, Nolan Little, Jesse Andrade and Raquel Andrade, a sister-in-law, Margaret Marcy, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Esther, Andrew was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Douglas Little, Jr.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday, May 9, 2011 from 11 am – 1 pm at Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls (315-823-2424). Mr. Little’s funeral will commence at the funeral home at the conclusion of calling hours (1 pm), and will be conducted by his son, The Reverend David G. Little. Burial will immediately follow in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls.
In lieu of floral offerings, donations may be made in Andrew’s memory to Little Falls Hospital, 140 Burwell Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Alice F. Gay
ILION - Alice F. Gay, age 90, of 7 Woodland Ave., Ilion, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
She was born on June 4, 1920, in Elmira, the daughter of George F. and Esther (Harrington) Fean. Alice graduated from Elmira Free Academy, Skidmore College with a B.S. and Syracuse University with a M.S. In 1951, she was married to Raymond E. Gay in Elmira. He died on January 3, 1991. Alice was employed as a business teacher at Mohawk and Frankfort Schuyler Schools for over twenty years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion Garden Club, Red Hat Dolls and was a former member of Church Women United. Alice was named the Evening Telegram “Woman of the Week” in 1977 and was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club of Utica, in Utica. She was also past president of Mohawk Valley General Hospital Guild and past president of the Historical Club of Ilion.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Carol Gay, of Ilion; her grandchildren, Elizabeth “Beth” Gay and her companion, Vanessa Colon, of Ilion, Stephanie Montgomery and her husband, Matthew, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Rebecca “Becca” Gay and her boyfriend, Bob Ferguson; and her great-granddaughter, Kylie Ferguson. She was predeceased by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Gay.
Funeral services will be held 1:15 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 2:00 p.m. at the Church Of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Leo Potvin, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Burial will be in Millers Mills Cemetery next to her husband, Raymond. Calling hours are Thursday (today), May 5, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Herkimer Co., 61 West St., Ilion, NY 13357. Envelopes are also available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home.
All funeral and burial arrangements were prearranged and are entrusted to Don Applegate, Funeral Director.

Bernard Clifford Stearns
FORT MILLER - Bernard Clifford Stearns, 81, of Senecal Lane, Fort Miller, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Mr. Stearns was born Jan. 25, 1927, and was the son of the late Clifford D. and Florence Stearns.

After graduation from Brattleboro High School, he enlisted in the United States Army.

Donald H. "Jake" Hurlburt
VERGENNES, Vt.and TICONDEROGA - Donald H. "Jake" Hurlburt, 74, of Vergennes, Vt., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at his residence.

Born in Ticonderoga, Jan. 6, 1934, he was the son of the late Raymond and Altina (Bacon) Hurlburt Sr.

Jake was raised in Ticonderoga and resided there for many years. He attended Ticonderoga High School and was a member of the New York State National Guard in Ticonderoga.

John T. Izykowski
CORINTH - John T. Izykowski, 87, of Farm to Market Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at the home of his son, Richard Izykowski, his wife, Linda, and their children, Keith, Matthew and Jennifer, with whom he resided for the past several years.

Born on Feb. 24, 1921, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late John and Paulina (Maliszewski) Izykowski.

Mr. Izykowski attended East Side High School in Newark, N.J.

Gerald F. Heath
ROCHESTER - Gerald F. Heath passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at the Isiah House in Rochester, N.Y., from lung cancer.

He was born May 3, 1947, in Glens Falls, N.Y. Gerald is the son of the late Harold and Pearl (McCarthy) Heath of South Glens Falls.

He attended South Glens Falls schools and later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.

Ruth Ida Pattison Allen
TICONDEROGA - Ruth Ida Pattison Allen died late Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at the Heritage Commons in Ticonderoga, N.Y., just days before her 95th birthday.

She was born on a farm in Whallonsburg, N.Y., on Dec. 9, 1913. Her parents, Sarah Gay Edwards Pattison (1887-1969) and Archie Earl Pattison (1879-1961), moved to Moriah, N.Y., when she was 2, and she met her future husband, Roland Judson Allen (1912-1996), when she was 6. They subsequently lived on adjoining farms on Harry Allen Road in Moriah.

She joined the Methodist Church at age 12 and graduated from Sherman Collegiate Institute in Moriah at age 16. She attended Elmira College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and drama in 1935.

John Frederick Latham
WARRENSBURG - John Frederick Latham, 61, of Route 9, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany following a brief battle with brain cancer.

Born on April 8, 1947, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Fredrick Latham and Ruth (Millington) Latham Trenary.

He attended the Warrensburg School District. After high school, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Keith L. Harris
LAKE GEORGE - Keith L. Harris, 47, of Lake George passed away in Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, from injuries sustained in a plane crash.

Arrangements are being handled by Singleton - Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury.

Geraldine M. Hopkins
QUEENSBURY - Geraldine M. Hopkins, 92, formerly of Newcomb Street, went to be with her husband of 61 years, on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Indian River Rehabilitation and Health Facility in Granville.

Born on Dec. 1, 1916, in the town of Kingsbury, she was the daughter of the late George R. and Myrtle (Dwyer) Canfield.

Geraldine attended Hudson Falls High School and was in the first graduating Red Cross class at the Glens Falls Hospital. She worked at the hospital for the American Red Cross, during World War II.

Gwendolyn Hodges Vogel
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Gwendolyn (Hodges) Vogel, of Bryan Street, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at the Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia. She was 96.

Born on March 3, 1912, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Louis and Linda (Palmer) Hodges and was a lifelong resident.

A graduate of the Saratoga Hospital School of Nursing in 1932, she served her entire career as a registered nurse at Saratoga Hospital, prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Saratoga County Retired Nurses Lunch group and was a member of the Church of St. Peter.

Mark W. Petteys
TOWN OF WILTON - Mark W. Petteys, 64, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y.

He was born in Glens Falls. He was the son of the late Howard and Madeleine Harris Petteys.

Mark worked as a carpenter for the Albany Carpenters Union in Albany, N.Y.

Mary Saville Oatman
AMHERST, Va. - Mary Saville Oatman, 87, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at her home in Amherst.

Mary was born July 16, 1921, in West Hartford, N.Y., at home on the Saville family farm. She was the daughter of Frank and Phoebe (Stewart) Saville.

Mary was a 1941 graduate of Hartford Central School, Hartford, N.Y. After graduation, she moved to Troy, N.Y. and was employed at the Emma Willard School. She lived with her beloved older sister Gladys during that time.

Gary Lee Schermerhorn
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Gary Lee Schermerhorn, 68, of Peru Street, Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at his home.

He was born in Cambridge, N.Y., Sept. 11, 1940, the son of Wilfred and Dora (Towns) Schermerhorn.

Gary grew up in Greenwich, N.Y., and attended Greenwich High School.

Georgette Ruta
CAMBRIDGE - Georgette Ruta of East Main Street, died peacefully at home on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008.

Visitation and service is being planned for Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at the Ackley & Ross Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Viola Lozo Smith
GLENS FALLS - Viola Lozo Smith, 95, of Glens Falls, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Viola was enrolled in an anatomical gift program. There will be no funeral or memorial service.

Calling hours will take place at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury at a time to be announced.

Esther Dill
LAKE LAUDERDALE - Esther Dill, 88, a former resident of Lake Lauderdale, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at The Pines in Glens Falls.

Born June 29, 1920, in Grangerville, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen Clement Pratt.

Mrs. Dill was a former employee of the VanRaalte Co. in Saratoga Springs and was a member of Old Saratoga Reformed Church in Schuylerville.

Vivian J. King
INDIAN LAKE - Vivan J. King, age 89, of Big Brook Road, died peacefully Sunday morning Dec. 14, 2008.

Born on Sept. 9, 1919, in Indian Lake, he was the son of Lester Purl King and Lois Hutchins.

He served in the United States Army during World War II where he was awarded the American Theatre Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the American Defense Medal.

Anne C. Cleveland
GLENS FALLS - Anne C. Cleveland of Sherman Avenue, Glens Falls, concluded her life's journey on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, from her home surrounded by her friends.

QUEENSBURY - Marianne Catherine Wesneski of Pine Cone Drive, passed away at her home on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008.

Marie Bunker
WARRENSBURG - Marie Bunker, 89, formerly of Prospect Street, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at the Indian River Nursing in Granville.

Born on May 16, 1919, in Thurman, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Blanche (Welsh) Combs.

On Sept. 17, 1937, she married George A. Bunker at the Baptist Church Parsonage in Thurman. The couple had been residents of Warrensburg since.

Janet J.C. Contois
BRANT LAKE - Janet "J.C." Contois, 69, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. After a long illness and a valiant fight, she went home to the Lord.

Born Oct. 21, 1939, in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late William and Lillian (Rettinger) Weisenforth.

Janet was known as "J.C." throughout upstate and the Adirondacks by her friends. She was a retired printed circuit card designer for Fairchild in Latham.

MINERVA - Normalea S. Balch, 77, of Minerva, passed away, Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek.

Carol H. Fowler
WILTON - Carol H. Fowler, 61, of Wilton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, at Saratoga Hospital.

Born in Ballston Spa, Oct. 9, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Marshall (Pete) and Helen Plummer.

Carol was a legal secretary at Skidmore College for many years.

Richard Borden
ARGYLE - Richard Borden, 45, of Argyle, passed away on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Arrangements are pending under the care of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Wendell M. Mackie Hall
NORTH GRANVILLE, N.Y. - Wendell M. "Mackie" Hall, age 62, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness.

Mackie was born on June 13, 1946, in Granville, N.Y., the son of Willard M. and Alta (Ware) Hall.

Mackie was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam conflict.
