Lewis Franklin Hill

NEW BERLIN — Lewis Franklin Hill, 88 years, of New Berlin, died Feb. 21, 2002, in Norwich

He was born on Oct. 31, 1913, in North Norwich, son of Arthur and Leila (Koon) Hill.

He married Dorothy Royce Hill on April 26, 1942. She survives.

He spent his childhood in the Smyrna area.

He is survived by his sons, Anthony Hill, Durand, Mich., and Royce Hill, Edmeston; stepchildren, Eugene Cole, Edmeston, Shirley Marie Hardy, New Berlin; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Harold Hill, Norwich, Raymond Hill, Austin,  Texas and Elizabeth Graham, Limestone, Tenn.

He was predeceased by Jessie Benedict, Margaret Royce, John Hill and Fred Hill.

He was the owner and mechanic of Hills Texaco in New Berlin.

A graveside service will be held in the spring, with Pastor Romeyn Kipp.

Interment will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery in New Berlin.

Elizabeth F. Hull

GILBERTSVILLE — Elizabeth F. (Betty) Hull, 89, of Gilbertsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1912, in Gary, Ind., the daughter of Arthur T. Freer and Edna (Sperry) Freer.

She was married to Merton T. Hull on June 24, 1948, in Gilbertsville. He died Dec. 11, 1961.

She was a well-known piano teacher in Gilbertsville and surrounding communities.

She attended high school in Michigan and was a graduate of Ithaca College in Ithaca.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville for more than 65 years where she had served as an Elder of the church and as a Sunday school teacher for more than 25 years.

She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Woman's Relief Corp.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Anita Poos and her husband, Charles of Weatherford, Okla.; a sister, Edna Freer of Gilbertsville; a brother, Arthur T. Freer of Sebring, Fla.; two grandchildren, Amanda Rodriguez and her husband, Sam and Jeremy Poos. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Mary Stearns predeceased her.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, with the Dr. Rev. Donald Boardman officiating.

There will be no calling hours, however, the family will receive friends in the undercroft of the church immediately following the service.

Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville at a later date.

It was Betty's request that friends donate to the First Presbyterian Church in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

John R. Moore

SIDNEY CENTER — John R. Moore, 62, of Sidney Center, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.

He was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Deposit, the son of Raymond and Georgetta Moore.

He was married to Rosemary Walley on April 13, 1990, in Sidney.

John has been a lifelong area resident and has been an employee of Amphenol Corp. of Sidney, for the last 24 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1967.

He was an avid trap and skeet shooter of which he was a member of the Pathfinder Fish and Game Club of Fulton, the Binghamton Sportsman Club and a lifetime member of the NRA.

John was also a member of the Sidney American Legion Post No. 183, life member of the Sidney VFW Post No. 7914, and the Sidney Moose Lodge No. 277.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Moore, of Sidney Center; two sons and daughters-in-law, John R. II and Mary Moore of Fulton and David S. and Jenneen Bush of Sidney Center; his grandchildren, Meghan Moore and John R. Moore III of Fulton, Daniel Utter of Otego, Jaclyn Utter, Megan Stafford, Shannon Stafford, Matthew Stafford, all of Sidney Center, and Tyler Katalinas of Mount Upton; a great-granddaughter, Shelby Utter of Mount Upton; also several cousins.

Friends may call Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Westcott Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla, when the family will be in attendance.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the funeral home.

Burial will be later in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Ralph Van Zandt

DAVENPORT — Ralph Van Zandt, 81, of Davenport, died Feb. 20, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born on May 1, 1920, in the town of Kortright, the son of Albert and Rose (Shelley) Van Zandt.

He married Frances Rathbone on Aug. 19, 1950.

Mr. Van Zandt was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army from 1942-45.

He worked as a mill worker at West Nesbitt in Harpersfield for 29 years.

An avid hunter and fisherman he love attending tractor pulls and the gas engine shows held in Gallupville.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, at home; a daughter, Candy Van Zandt and good friend, Warren Robinson; two sons, Clifton Van Zandt and his wife, Leslie and Ralph Van Zandt Jr. and his wife, Mabel; grandchildren, Nolan, Katrina, Andrew, Crystal, Michael, Christopher, Timothy, Eugene and Crystal; great-grandchildren, Delena, Emily and Dana; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Florence Rathbone and Shirley Rathbone; and a brother-in-law, Morton and Sharon Rathbone.

Three brothers, James, Kenneth and Floyd predeceased him.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Tracie M. Martin officiating.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Burial will be in the spring at Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Davenport First Responders.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Doris A. Robinson

OTEGO — Doris A. Robinson, 86, of Otego died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born on April 29, 1915, on the Otsdawa in Otego, the daughter of Fred and Susan (Holbrook) Russell.

She married Ralph W. Robinson on June 20, 1936, in West Oneonta. Mr. Robinson predeceased her on July 26, 1982.

Doris was a lifelong Otego resident and was a self-employed beautician in her home. She enjoyed camping at Racquette Lake.

After their retirement, Doris and Ralph wintered in Stewart, Fla. Doris was a member of the Otego United Methodist Church; the Rebecca Lodge and Order of Eastern Star in Otego; the Otego Fire Department Women's Auxiliary; and in her later years she was a volunteer at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Dorothy Robinson of Otego and Charles and Raenelle Robinson of Stewart, Fla.; one grandson and his wife, Rodney and Judy Robinson of Otego; one granddaughter and her husband, Shannon and Neil Miller of Tucson, Ariz.; one great-granddaughter, Miranda Robinson, of Otego; two sisters, Christine Sampson of Maple Grove, and Marguerite Burchhardt of Homer; as well as several nieces and nephews. Doris was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jennifer Robinson.

A service to celebrate the life of Doris A. Robinson will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at the Otego United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in spring at the Otego Evergreen Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 2 p.m. until service time at which time the family will be present.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Otego United Methodist Church, Church Street, Otego, NY 13825; the Otego Fire Department, River Street, Otego, NY 13825; or to the Otego Emergency Squad, River Street, Otego, NY 13825 in loving memory of Doris A. Robinson.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego.

Howard Partridge

BAINBRIDGE — Howard A. Partridge, 79, of Bainbridge formerly of Afton died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.

He was born May 28, 1922, son of Russell and Normina Lesuer Partridge in Afton.

Howard was employed at American Plastics in Bainbridge for many years and later worked for Amphenol Corp. in Sidney where he retired in 1987. He was a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 277 in Sidney.

Howard married Pauline Ostrander Clark in 1972 in Mount Upton.

He is survived by his wife Pauline, of Bainbridge; four sons and daughters-in-law Walter and Letha Clark of Bainbridge, Paul and Darlene Clark of Mount Upton, Steven and Victoria Clark of Mount Upton and Howard Partridge Jr., of Florida; two daughters and sons-in-law Loretta and Donald Wilber of Mount Upton and Sharon and Donald Granger of Unadilla; one brother; three sisters; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 25, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Allen Presby of the United Presbyterian Church of East Guilford will officiate.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Burial will be later in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Memorial contributions may be made in Howard's name to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Grace W. Burton

ANDES — Grace W. Burton, 94, passed away at her home on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002.

She was born Sept. 18, 1907, in Andes the daughter of William and Anna Raitt Wight. She spent her entire life in Andes. She attended Oneonta Normal School. She was a member of the Andes United Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school there when she was younger.

Grace devoted herself to her family and their farm business. She was an avid reader and a regular at the Andes Library. Grace was noted for her baking and flower gardening skills. She loved life and often said laughing is what keeps you healthy.

She married Roland H. Burton on Nov. 26, 1927, in Walton. He predeceased her on March 7, 1981.

Surviving are three sons, Stanley R. Burton of Mount Dora, Fla., Glenn S. Burton and wife, Diana, of San Juan Capistrano,  Calif., Ronald W. Burton and wife, Patricia, of Andes; her daughter Patricia Brannen of Andes; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes with the Rev. Daniel McCollister officiating.

Interment will be later in Andes Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday when the family will be in attendance from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Andes Public Library, Andes Emergency Squad, Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. or the Andes United Presbyterian Church.

Victor J. LaPointe

STILLWATER — Victor J. LaPointe, 81, of Saratoga Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, following a long illness.

Born June 24, 1920, in the Town of Dannemora, he was the son of the late Amos and Margaret Blair LaPointe.

Mr. LaPointe had been a miner for more than 18 years with Republic Steel in Lyon Mount. From 1963 to 1977, he was the caretaker for Our Lady of Lourdes Summer Camp in Livingston Manor. From 1977 to 1987, he was a custodian for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District.

He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Stillwater. Mr. LaPointe was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed his hobby of carpentry.

Mr. LaPointe was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in New Guinea and the Panama Canal Zone.

Survivors include his wife Agnes R. Wood, whom he married Dec. 28, 1945; three sons, James (Mary) LaPointe of Saratoga Springs, Victor (Terri) LaPointe of Otego, and Mark (Sue) La Pointe of Glens Falls; and three daughters, Judy (Justin)  White of Putnam, Conn., Mary (Kenton) McCleve of Stillwater and Jodi (Paul) Coleman of Stillwater. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Peter's Church, North Hudson Avenue, Stillwater, with the Rev. William Turnbull, pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Homes Inc., 121 N. Hudson Ave., on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Interment with full military honors will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stillwater Ambulance Fund, Box 584, Stillwater, NY 12170, in his memory.

Andella L. Tripp

SOUTH VALLEY — Mrs. Andella L. Tripp, 85, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born May 2, 1916, in South Glens Falls, the daughter of Hudson and Flora Idella ( White) Viele.

She married Myron L. Tripp on June 4, 1940, at the Baptist Bible Seminary,  Johnson City. Their marriage took place on their graduation day from Baptist Bible Seminary in 1940. Mr. Tripp predeceased her in 1998.

She was a graduate of the Class of 1936 of Wilson High School, Wilson, and was a resident of South Valley for 45 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of South Valley.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger P. and Joyce Tripp of Redding,  Calif., Nathan and Dana Tripp of South Valley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Faith S. and Richard Hitchcock, Laura and Leon Black, all of South Valley; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Lynch of Warnersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Mrs. Tripp will be placed in the Ottman Funeral Home private vault to await burial in the spring.

Burial will take place in the South Valley Cemetery, South Valley.

Calling hours are from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, preceding the funeral.

Contributions in Mrs. Tripp's memory may be made to the First Christian Church, South Valley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Angela K. Tiemann

ONEONTA — Angela K. Tiemann, 69, of Oneonta died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born Dec. 23, 1932, in New York City, the daughter of Francisco and Maria (Gil) Costa.

She married George Tiemann on Dec. 27, 1952, in New York City. Angela and her family moved to Oneonta in 1982 from Conesville. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, stamp collecting, cooking and had a love for animals. Angela will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, George Tiemann of Oneonta; two sons and a daughter-in-law, George and Marsha Tiemann of Oneonta and Mark Tiemann of Oneonta; two grandchildren, Joseph and Jessica Tiemann of Oneonta; as well as several nieces and nephews. Angela was predeceased by a brother, Frank Costa.

Funeral and committal services will be held Monday, Feb. 25, at noon at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul A. Roman, pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at the Manorkill Cemetery, Conesville.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until service time, at which time the family will be present.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Bloomville Road, Delhi, NY 13753, in loving memory of Angela K. Tiemann.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
