Elizabeth Monahan
EAST SPRINGFIELD — Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) A. Monahan, 76, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at her home.
She was born June 17, 1925, in Albany, the daughter of John and Edna (Godfrey) Hughes.
On Dec. 28, 1946, she married Daniel P. Monahan in the grotto of St. Vincent's Church in Albany. He predeceased her in 1993.
Mrs. Monahan was a resident of East Springfield for 56 years and a business teacher for the Springfield Central School, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of NYSUT, Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield Center and the College of St. Rose Alumni Association.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Chris and Cecilia and grandchildren, Jeff, Scott and Aubrey of East Springfield; Jim and Kay and grandchildren, Kelly, Bob and Amanda of Stanley and David and Susan and grandchildren Justin and Kyle of East Springfield; three daughters and their husbands, Mary Jo and Dennis Eldredge and grandchildren Erin and Katie of Clifton Park, Kathy and Tony Kasprowicz of East Springfield and Eileen Bleem and grandchildren Allison and Ryan of Naples, Fla.
She was predeceased by a son, Tommy, in 1954.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Cherry Valley, with the Rev. John Roos officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in Springfield Center Cemetery in Springfield Center.
Contributions in Mrs. Monahan's memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta NY 13820 or the Bassett Healthcare Clinic in Richfield Springs.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home of Cherry Valley.
Catherine Parsons
DELHI — Catherine M. Parsons, 90, of Delhi, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Delaware County Countryside Care in Delhi.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1911, in the Bronx, the daughter of William and Catherine Doughty Meyran.
She was an owner/operator of a gift shop in Massapequa, Long Island.
Nephews, Donald Williams of Delhi, Ronald Kneisel of Mt. Sinai and Jack Schnurr of Massapequa survive her.
There will be no services at this time.
Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.
Enes M. Schmidt
MERIDALE — Enes M. Schmidt, 95, of Meridale, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 8, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 23, 1906, in Hoboken, N.J., daughter of Louis and Ninette (Sarcona) Maresca.
She married Emil Schmidt on April 12, 1937.
Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt ran a dairy farm in Meridale until they moved to Oneonta in 1967. Mrs. Schmidt also worked at Bendix in Sidney for a number of years, retiring in 1971. After her retirement she was active in the Ladies Guild at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.
She was an elegant woman who loved to travel, read and socialize with her many friends.
For the past 11 years, Mrs. Schmidt lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Sandy Schmidt of Meridale. She is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Dayle Schmidt of Sidney; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Enes was predeceased by her husband, Emil; a son, Ronald Schmidt; a grandson, Emil Raymond Schmidt; a brother, Louis Maresca; and a sister, Floril Buesser.
She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. John Osterhout, pastor of the Meridale Community Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be later in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Milford Ostrander
SIDNEY — Milford "Mitt" L. Ostrander, 76, of Sidney passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Sidney.
He was born Nov. 6, 1925, son of the late Milford W. and Margaret Lawall Ostrander in Oneonta.
Mitt served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He married Kathryn Curtis on Nov. 27, 1949, in Unadilla.
Mr. Ostrander was employed as a supervisor for Amphenol Corp., from which he retired in 1987. He was also the sexton for Prospect Hill Cemetery for many years.
Mitt was a member of the Sidney Golf and Country Club and the Sidney Fire Department. He was a past member of the American Legion Post No. 183 in Sidney.
Mitt loved golf and bowling, as well as boating and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Ostrander, of Sidney; two sons and daughter-in-law, George Ostrander of West Edmeston and John and Debbie Ostrander of Unadilla; a daughter, Margaret Ostrander, of Oneonta; four grandchildren, Mackenzie and Todd Paternoster of Mount Upton, Todd DeCocker of Roy, Utah, and Abigail and Amanda Ostrander of Unadilla; a great-grandson, Nicholas Paternoster; and several cousins.
Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. There will be a fire department service at 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Prospect Hill Cemetery Association or the Sidney Fire Department.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., 21 Main St. in Sidney.
Richard J. Onyan
ONEONTA — Richard J. Onyan, 71, of Oneonta died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at his residence.
He was born March 28, 1930, in Utica, the son of Clifford L. and Mary (Duerheimer) Onyan.
He married Ruth Dipden in 1962, and she died on March 17, 1985.
Dick served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949.
For 21 years, he was an EMT with the city of Los Angeles Fire Department, from which he retired in 1982.
He was a member of the Chadwicks American Legion Post 1000, and a life member of the VFW.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and John Kogut of Morris; two nephews, Paul Kogut of Hamilton and Jon Kogut of Morris. He is also survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Oneonta American Legion Post 259 will conduct a memorial service at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., in Oneonta at 7:30 p.m. today.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today, when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will be in the spring in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Clinton.

Ernest Moore
STAMFORD — Ernest Patrick "Pat" Moore, 90, formerly of North Blenheim, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home, following a long illness.
Mr. Moore was born in Grand Gorge on July 31, 1911, a son of Edward and Dinah Mann Moore.
He retired in 1986, after 50 years of owning and operating Moore's Garage in North Blenheim.
For 20 years he was the highway superintendent for the town of Blenheim.
Pat served on the Gilboa Conesville School Board for 10 years and was president of the board for two years. He also was a former member and past chief of the Blenheim Hose Co.
He was a 52-year member of Gilboa Lodge 630 F&AM.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Harris Moore, of Stamford; two daughters, Joan Cuzi of Salisbury, Md., and Joyce Falcone of Homosassa, Fla.; a son, Ernest Moore Jr., of Gloversville; two sisters, Betty Moore and Katherine Feinier, both of Oneonta; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, with the Rev. Neil Irwin, pastor of the North Blenheim United Methodist Church, officiating.
The Gilboa Masonic Lodge will conduct a service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. today.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, North Blenheim.

ONEONTA — Richard J. Onyan, 71, of Oneonta died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at his residence.

Kenneth Blomquist
SIDNEY CENTER — Kenneth Blomquist, 54, of Sidney Center passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 19, 1947, in Boston, Mass., the son of Clarence and Barbara (Seelig) Blomquist.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family on Long Island.
Local arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.
Sarah O'Connor
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Sarah Marie O'Connor, infant daughter of Daryl and Jessica Janes O'Connor, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday morning, Feb. 7, 2002, in Albany Medical Center.
Sarah Marie was born on Feb. 1, 2002, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. Very softly she tiptoed into this world, leaving a gift of love and devotion for her family. She will live in their hearts forever.
Besides her parents, Sarah is survived by her maternal grandparents, Deborah and her husband, Ronald DeRocher, of Clifton Park, Thomas Janes of Mohawk; paternal grandparents, Gordon and Delores O'Connor of Richfield Springs; great-grandparents, David and Rose Edick of Waterville, Helen E. O'Connor of Richfield Springs; aunts and uncles, Elizabeth and Christopher Matthie of Lowville, Andrea Janes of Mohawk, Christy Janes of Ilion, Kenneth O'Connor and Laura O'Connor, both of Richfield Springs; several great-aunts, uncles and cousins.
A service from the burial office and Holy Communion will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Episcopal Church in Richfield Springs with the Rev. John Dixon Bartle, rector, officiating.
Sarah will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.

Fred 'Stan' Jarvis
COOPERSTOWN — Fred "Stan" Jarvis, 91, of Cooperstown, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002.
He was born in Birmingham, England, on Oct. 16, 1910, the son of Fred and Claire Jarvis.
He married Goldie May Merritt on Nov. 5, 1932.
They owned and operated a dairy farm on Christian Hill for 45 years. He was also employed by Bassett Hospital for nearly 20 years, retiring when he was 65.
He was an avid golfer and dedicated family man, enjoying his generations of children.
He is survived by his loving wife, Goldie, of 69 years; all of his five children, son, Ted and wife, Jan, son, Jim, daughter, Nancy and husband, John Mercer, daughter, Judy and husband, Gene Miller, daughter, Janis; and a sister, Patricia Grenz. He is also survived by all of his 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Hugh Jarvis.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. before the service.
