DELHI — A service to celebrate the life of Vera Pogosian will be held Saturday, July 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Treadwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Lyle Linder officiating.
Scott G. Peterson
ROSEBOOM — Scott G. Peterson, 45, of Roseboom, died Tuesday evening, July 17, 2001, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born Aug. 13, 1955, in Jersey City, N.J., a son of Charles and Jane (Kleindienst) Peterson.
He married Nancy Weber on June 13, 1992, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cooperstown.
Scott grew up in Westwood, N.J., where he graduated from Westwood High School in the Class of 1974.
Employed as a union tile setter in New Jersey, he formed his own company, Renaissance Tile & Marble, in 1989. Several years ago, Scott relocated his business to the village of Cherry Valley.
Scott will be remembered for his sense of adventure, his gift of vision and his passion for restorations, including the Dr. Sterriker Homestead in Roseboom. He especially enjoyed watching NASCAR racing with his son, Kyle.
He was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown.
Scott is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his son, Kyle S. of Roseboom; his mother, Jane Peterson of Westwood, N.J.; his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Barbara Peterson of River Vale, N.J.; his four sisters and brothers-in-law, Jayne and Michael Quinn of Toms River, N.J., Anita and John Bannon, Barbara and Darren Blankenbush and Laurie and William Reilly, all of Westwood, N.J.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Jack and Helen Weber of Cooperstown; his brother-in-law and his wife, Ron and Arlene Weber of Gardiner; and his sister-in-law and her husband, Christy and Julian Soel of Tomahawk, Wis.
He was predeceased by his father, Charles L. Peterson.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor, and Fr. John R. Roos, pastor emeritus, officiating. Burial will be at a later date, at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Friday, July 20, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. when Scott's family will be in attendance. There will be a vigil service at 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Columbia University/ALS Gift Fund, attention: Mrs. DelBeney, Neuro Institute, 710 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

Brenda Alger
SIDNEY CENTER — Brenda Alger, 42, of Sidney Center, passed away Monday, July 16, 2001, at her home.
She was born Nov. 25, 1958, daughter of the late Donald and Loretta Reed Lathan in Mount Holly, N.J.
Brenda graduated from Unatego High School and was employed as a home health aide.
She was predeceased by Bill Cleaver.
Brenda married Donald Alger Sr. on Sept. 5, 1992, in Franklin.
She was kind to everyone and loved to fish.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Donald Alger Sr. of Sidney Center; two sons, Will Cleaver of Sidney Center, and Donnie Alger Jr. of Sidney Center; two brothers, Bruce Lathan and Ellen Clark-Morrell of Oneonta, and Robert and Lauren Lathan of Oneonta; mother-in-law, Thelma Alger of Bainbridge; brother-in-law, Robert Alger of East Meredith; six sisters-in-law, Linda and Jerry Noah of Alexandria, Va., Elizabeth and Dale VonSande of Camdenton, Mo., Jeanne and John Donnelly of Stafford, Va., Helen and Ron Noe of Woodbridge, Va., Shirley and Bill Nieberlein of Baltimore and Nancy and Greg Peck of Sidney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 20, 2001, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St. in Sidney, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Tony Hipes, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Bainbridge, officiating.
Friends may call Thursday, July 19, 2001. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center.

Gertrude E. Hadden
WAVERLY — Gertrude E. (Davis) Hadden, 92, of Waverly, passed away Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Tioga Nursing Facility.
She was born Aug. 16, 1908, in Margaretville, the daughter of the late Elmer and Lizzie (Sliter) Davis.
She was the widow of the late Eugene Hadden Sr.
Gertrude retired from Bendix Corp. in Sidney after 20 years of service.
She was a member of the Wellsburg First United Methodist Church. Gertrude was also a member of the Wellsburg Fire Department Auxiliary, the Susquehanna Valley Grange #1417 and the Rebekah Lodge of Otego.
She is survived by her sons, Eugene C. (Mary Ann) Hadden of Chapel Hill, Tenn., and James B. (Charlotte) Hadden of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Thomas (Harriet) Bendle of Jacksonville, Fla., Joyce (Robert) Dear of Elmira and Amy M. Hadden of Chapel Hill, Tenn.
Friends are invited to call at Roberts Funeral Home Inc., 279 Main St. in Wellsburg, on Thursday, July 19, 2001, from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Carr officiating. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Walter P. Gardner
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Mr. Walter P. Gardner, 100, of Andalusia, Ala., formerly of Springfield Center, passed away Friday, July 13, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Charlie Harwell of Andalusia, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, George and Lometa Gardner of Santec, Calif.; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Gardner; and granddaughter, Carolyn Alexander.
Graveside funeral and committal services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2001, in the Springfield Center Cemetery, with Dan West officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery.
Local arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home of Cherry Valley.
Leon Shultis
OTEGO — There will be a memorial service for Leon Shultis on Sunday, July 29, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church on River Street in Otego. Following the service, a luncheon in the Otego United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall will be presented by the women of both churches.

Zivko 'Jim' Rapaic
MILFORD — Zivko "Jim" Rapaic, 72, of Milford, left us unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1928, in Croatia, the son of the late Nikola and Danica Kuezevic Rapaic.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Antoinnette Tomsie Rapaic of Milford; two sisters, Ruza and Neoeuka and their families of Croatia; one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and their families of Italy; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Mr. Rapaic and his wife came to the Milford area from Italy 28 years ago. They have owned and operated the Brookside Hotel for many years in Milford.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St. in Oneonta, with Fr. John P Rosson officiating. Interment will be Monday in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
John T. Hamilton Jr.
DELHI — John T. Hamilton Jr., attorney-at-law, 50, of 145 Main St. in Delhi, N.Y., died peacefully at his home with family members and friends in attendance on Thursday, July 19, 2001.
He was diagnosed with cancer in April. John led his family and friends through his illness with courage and grace, and they are extremely thankful that John was able to spend time with them during the past four months, enjoying some of the things that he most loved.
John was born in Delhi on April 17, 1951, to John Thomas Hamilton and Theresa L'Ecuyer Hamilton, who survive him.
He was married to Julia Whitlow Hamilton on Sept. 3, 1977 and has two children J.T. Hamilton, 18, and Sara Baer Hamilton, 14, of Delhi, who survive him. John is also survived by his brother Mark, his sister-in-law Bonnie and their children, Mandy, Katie and Marcie Hamilton of Delhi; his brother Pete, his sister-in-law Jane and their children, P.J. and Jess of Delhi; his sister Anne Stoecker and her children Dan and Tessa of Babylon, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by a friend, Kathleen Locey of Central Valley, N.Y.
John graduated from Delaware Academy in Delhi in 1969. He earned a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College in 1973 and graduated cum laude from Albany Law School of Union University in 1976.
John was admitted to practice in New York state in 1977. In addition, he was admitted to practice in all federal district courts in New York state and the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He maintained a private practice in Delhi, which he established in 1980.
John also dedicated years of professional service to the New York state Senate. He worked as counsel to Senator Charles D. Cook from 1980 to 1998. In addition, he served as counsel to the following committees in the state Senate: New York City Watershed negotiations, local government and agriculture. Since 1999, John served as assistant counsel to the majority leader of the state Senate and as Senate home rule counsel.
John was a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the New York State Trial Lawyer's Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York County Lawyer's Association, the Delaware County Bar Association, the Law Guardian Liaison Committee of Delaware County, the Law Guardian Advisory Committee of Delaware County, the Southern Tier Trial Lawyer's Association, the Faculty Trainer, Trial Advocacy Workshop Mock Trial Program and the Appellate Division Third Department Law Guardian Program.
John dedicated many hours of his time to volunteer service for the following organizations: Cook for Senate, the Otschodela County Boy Scouts of America Council, the Delaware County Historical Association, the Hamilton College Alumni Council, the Allen Residential Center/Sgt. Henry Johnson Youth Leadership Academy Advisory Committee and the New York State Children and Family Services Committee. John also took great pride in the youth football team he coached, the Delhi Pee Wee Jets.
A private family mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Church in Delhi, with the Revs. Edward Ryan and James McDevitt officiating. A public memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held on Monday, July 23, at 1 p.m. at the United Ministry of Delhi.
A private interment will be held at Woodlands Cemetery in Delhi.
Donations in John's memory can be made to the following organizations: 4-H Camp Shankitunk, c/o Jim Rice; the Delaware County Youth Bureau, c/o Commissioner William Moon; or the Louis Hager Bush Cancer Center at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

Ruth Busacker
LITTLE FALLS — Ruth Christine Busacker, 80, of Little Falls, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2001, with her loving family at her side.
She was born on March 25, 1921, in Yonkers, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Rollwagon) Haffner and stepdaughter of George Roberts.
Ruth graduated from Westford Union Free School as well as from Oneonta Business College and attended Utica College of Syracuse University.
She was married on Sept. 7, 1940, to William E. Busacker at her home in Westford, N.Y. Ruth felt that her most significant activity was as a mother and wife. She always enjoyed traveling with her family. She made sure her kids got to see the United States and that she saw more of the world after the kids grew up.
In addition, she managed to sing in choirs in Andes, Hobart and Little Falls; was active in PTAs in South Kortright, Dolgeville and Little Falls; was secretary of the former Herkimer-Fulton County PTA; served as a volunteer in libraries in Andes and Little Falls; was a plane spotter in Salisbury Center following World War II; and served as a poll watcher at elections in Salisbury Center.
Other activities included leading the 4-H clubs in Salisbury Center and in Little Falls, serving as an aide at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, running house sales with Adelaide Vincent and being a member of the Herkimer County Home Bureau.
Ruth was always concerned with local history. While in high school, she was one of the editors of the only history of the town of Westford. In Herkimer County, she worked with the county historical society on its Christmas house project. She organized house tours, walks around the city for Elderhostels, bicycle groups and the general public, as well as working on yard sales and teas for the Little Falls Historical Society.
Over the years she has delivered Meals on Wheels, served as secretary of the Mayor's Advisory Board and worked on Community Chest in Salisbury Center and in Little Falls. She was a member and officer of the Auskerada Chapter #204 O.E.S. in Dolgeville; was on the Committee for Canal Development; was past president of the WCA, for which she organized bridge parties; was a member of the Fortnightly Club; was a member of the signage committee of the Mohawk Valley Heritage Corridor; was a member and former president of the Little Falls Hospital board; was a one-time president of the hospital's Trustee Council of Central New York; and was co-chair of the Little Falls Beautification Committee.
Her family included her husband, William Busacker; daughters, Carol Boughton of Blackwood, N.J., Lee Greaves of Zionsville, Ind., Aosta Edelman of Casleton; and son William Busacker Jr. of Schenectady. Her grandchildren were Wayne Grenning of Lockport; Christopher Greaves of Forest Hills; Jason Greaves of Indianapolis; Allegra and Naomi Edelman of Castleton; William Busacker III, Jennifer, Jack and Paige Busacker of Schenectady; as well as great-grandchildren, Alec and Kelly Grenning of Lockport and Athena Greaves of Forest Hills. Her brothers Robert and Howard Haffner predeceased her.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2001, followed by a celebration of Ruth Busacker's life at the Canal Side Restaurant at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2001, at 10 a.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home Inc., 42 N. Arm St., Little Falls.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., at the Westford Cemetery in Westford.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Ruth be made to the Little Falls Hospital or to the Little Falls Historical Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.
Thanks are offered to the staff of Herkimer County Hospice and of Dr. Butala and staff for their consideration and care provided during her illness.
James H. Mosher Jr.
CORTLAND — James H. Mosher Jr., 96, of Cortland and formerly of Masonville and Newburgh, went to be with his Lord Friday, July 20, 2001, at the North Woods Nursing Home in Cortland.
He was born June 24, 1905, son of the late James H. and Elnora Dolson Mosher Sr. in Beacon.
James married Marion Bradley on Aug. 10, 1938, in Newburgh. She predeceased him on Sept. 8, 1997.
Mr. Mosher was a self-employed carpenter when he retired in 1968. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newburgh, where he served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday School superintendent, financial secretary and on the board of Christian education. He also was a moderator, trustee and certified lay preacher for the Mid-Hudson Association of American Baptist Churches. Mr. Mosher was a life member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #301 and a Boy Scout leader for many years.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, J. Alvin and Laurie Mosher of McGraw and Donald and Cindy Mosher, of Newburgh; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Dewitt Mosher, and two sisters, Edna Colleen and Mildred Morgan.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Newburgh, 481 South St. in Newburgh, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Campbell Thompson, pastor, will officiate.
The family will be in attendance at noon for visitation prior to the service.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at C.H. Landers Chapel at 21 Main St. in Sidney.
Entombment will be in Cedar Hill Mausoleum in Newburgh.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Newburgh, McGrawville Baptist Church or to Hospice of Cortland County.

Peter R. Drotar
SIDNEY — Peter R. Drotar, 84, of Sidney, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Veterans Home in Oxford.
He was born July 5, 1917, son of the late Peter and Mary Marko Drotar in Dooley, Mont.
Peter married Dorothy Kozlowski on Oct. 4, 1941, in Utica.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Drotar was employed as payroll supervisor for E.C.D. of Bendix in Sidney when he retired in 1976.
He was a member of the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post #183 for more than 50 years and a member of the Sidney Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Drotar of Sidney; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Betty Drotar of Sidney, Paul and Betty Drotar of Syracuse, Pete Drotar of Norwich, David Drotar of Castleton on Hudson; two daughters, Donna St. John of Sidney and Karen Drotar of Coeymans Hollow; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Celia and Bob Lesko of Endwell and Julia Kozak of Florida; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, four sisters and his son-in-law, Larry St. John.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Sidney. The Rev. Gordon Polenz, pastor, will officiate
Friends can call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St. in Sidney.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Dorothy Ada Chase
GARRATTSVILLE — Dorothy Ada Chase, 78, of Garrattsville, passed away Friday, July 20, 2001, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1923, in the same house in Garrattsville that she was living in when she died.
She was the daughter of Arthur and Ida (Gardner) Harrington.
She was married to Glenn F. Chase Sr. on July 4, 1941, in the Morris Methodist Church Parsonage. Glenn passed away Sept. 28, 1994.
She was a homemaker and worked with Dr. George for many years as a veterinary assistant. Dorothy was an avid walker and bird watcher. She was notorious for her baking, gardening and being a friend to all. She was a member of the Garrattsville Methodist Church and the Garrattsville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Steven Eggleston of Malta; a daughter, Darlene Mangone of Newton, Mass.; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn F. (Pete) and Connie Chase of Rome; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Chase and Viola Harrington, both of New Berlin; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.
A memorial service will be held at the Garrattsville Methodist Church at a date to be announced.
There will be no calling hours, and burial will be in Edmeston Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Garrattsville Fire Department/Emergency Squad in Dorothy's memory.
