Edward Fuller
WARRENSBURG - Edward L. Fuller, 91, of Woodward Avenue, passed away, Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness.
Born Feb. 12, 1917, in North Creek, he was the son of the late Taylor and Elizabeth (Waddell) Fuller.
Ed served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Cowle during World War II. Upon his return from serving his country, he married Janet Daly on Dec. 27, 1945, in Westbrook, Maine.
Marion Briggs
Glens Falls -- Marion Briggs, 93, of Cronin High-rise apartments, died peacefully Friday Aug. 8, 2008 at the Glens Falls Hospital.
There will be no calling hours at Marion's request.
Jo Ann (Powers) Copenhaver
Moreau -- Jo Ann (Powers) Copenhaver, 58, of Lamplighter Acres in the town of Moreau died Aug. 6 2008 bringing her "Great Cancer Adventure" to an end.
She is survived by her husband Larry J. Copenhaver, parents Joseph A. and Ann F. (Lyons) Powers, of South Glens Falls, brother Timothy J. Powers of Hudson Falls, brother Kevin J. Powers and sister-in-law Joan E. Powers, niece Meghan E. Powers and nephew Kameron M. Powers of Albuquerque, N.M., son Ryan D. Wade, Samantha Smith and granddaughter Elina R., daughter Erin and son-in-law Michael Trombley, granddaughters America M. and Athena M. Vasquez, Raychel (Copenhaver) and Husband Steve Osman, Timothy and Jamisen of Micanopy, Fla., Brandi (Copenhaver) and husband Peter Drago, Christopher and Austin of Venice, Fla., Beverly (Copenhaver) Norman, sister-in-law and husband Lindsay of Kiawah Island, S.C., and Carlos Vasquez of Schenectady. Jo Ann moved to Venice, Fla., July 1996, where Kevin and Joni lived. There she met the love of her life, Larry. They married in a beautiful ceremony in front of family and friends on May 1, 1999.
Moreover, they made the ultimate commitment and had each other's initials tattooed on their bodies. They enjoyed many thrills, spills, and adventures traveling in their motor home. Jo Ann enjoyed traveling to the many states and places. Jo Ann also enjoyed dabbling in metaphysics, living the lessons she learned in classes with friend/teacher, Loretta Grabowski. Jo Ann also enjoyed decorating in the home and gardening.
Ruth B. Pratt
Easton -- Ruth B. Pratt, 86, of county Route 113 in Easton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at her home following a long illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1922 in that very same house which was her family homestead, she was the daughter of the late Waldo E. and Mabel Orr Booth.
Ruth was a graduate of Schuylerville School and a communicant of the Schuylerville United Methodist Church. She lived for a number of years in Troy, N.Y., where she worked in the shirt manufacturing industry. Later, she devoted herself to caring for others in her home in Stillwater, N.Y.
Elmer (Teamer) O. Lazure
NAPLES, Fla. and SOUTH GLENS FALLS -- Elmer (Teamer) O. Lazure, 79, formerly of South Glens Falls, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Oct. 18, 1928, he was the son of Homer Lazure and Viola St. John (Leary). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Michelle Lazure, his wife Patricia Lazure, sister Anita Dorian, brother, Robert Leary, and three grandsons. He was retired from Glens Falls Cement Company after 45 years of service. Then he moved to Naples, Fla.
Teamer was a local legendary hero to the many lives he touched. He was a very influential man in the boxing world. He was a professional boxer during the late '40s and early '50s, boxing against greats like George Castello.
Gloria Monroe
Queensbury -- Gloria Monroe, 84, a resident of Queensbury passed away on Friday Aug. 8, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Tuesday Aug. 12, 2008 at St. Alphonsus Church, Glens Falls, N.Y.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday Aug. 11, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Rd. Queensbury.
Shirley W. Elmer
Glens Falls -- Shirley W. Elmer, 86, of Glens Falls and formerly of Kentucky, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 in Glens Falls.
Born Jan. 15, 1922 in Sidney Center, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Ruth (Wilcox) Wormuth.
Besides her parents her husband, Frank M. Elmer, who died in 1975, and her brothers and sisters Austin Wormuth, Lewis Wormuth, Mitchell Wormuth, Theresa Elliott and Clara Moore, predeceased her.
Martha Thomas Harris
Sauquoit -- Martha Thomas Harris, 88, of Lake George, N.Y., and most recently of Sauquoit, N.Y., passed away on Wednsday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with her family by her side.
Martha was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Afton, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Thomas. While employed at G.E. she met J. Gardiner Harris of Schenectady, N.Y., and they were married on Sept. 25, 1942. While raising her children she pursued a number of hobbies including sewing, upholstering and refinishing. She was an active member of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild, Queensbury Senior Citizens Bridge Club, Bay Meadows Golf Club and the gardening club.
She enjoyed entertaining family and friends at Lake George and sharing special times with her brother Peter and his wife Mary.
Clinton H. Fredlund
Granville, N.Y. - Clinton H. Fredlund, age 77, passed away at his home on Aug. 8, 2008.
Clinton was born Feb. 15, 1931, in New Milford, Conn., the son of Carl and Eula (Bloomer) Fredlund.
Clinton was a retired lineman for Northeast Utilities in New Milford, Conn. , a job he had for 33 years. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and a lifetime member of the VFW. Clinton loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Jean W. Carlisle
HUDSON FALLS - Jean W. Carlisle, 91, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 8, 2008, at the home of her cousin Kathi Waterhouse, in Lake Luzerne, after a short illness.
Born on Aug. 17, 1917, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mildred (Bolton) Williams.
She was a graduate of Glens Falls High School and first was employed by Erlanger's Men's and Boy's Department Store, formerly in Glens Falls and later worked for the Glens Falls Insurance Company and the Continental Insurance Company, both also formerly of Glens Falls.
Gloria M. Monroe
Glens Falls - Gloria M. Monroe, 84, a resident of Corinth Road, Queensbury, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, following an unexpected illness.
Born on March 15, 1924, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Lina Roberts Collier.
After graduation from Fort Edward High School, she worked briefly at Union Bag before marrying Richard Monroe in 1946, and in later years, after her children were grown, she served as a home health care aide for more than 20 years.
John V. O'brien
LAKELAND, Fla. - John V. O'Brien died Aug. 7, at his home in Lakeland, Fla.
Mr. O'Brien was born in Whitefield, N.H., and moved to Lakeland 19 years ago from Glens Falls, N.Y. He was a school teacher for Lake George Central School in New York and was a member of Retired NYSRT of Florida. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of American Legion Post No. 4 and Elks club No. 81, St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He was a great dad and a wonderful husband.
Irene Cox
Queensbury - Irene Cox, 91, a resident of Queensbury passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls, N.Y.
Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery, Hudson Falls.
Nina Tatsey Brownell
Moreau - Nina Tatsey-Brownell, 47, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital after battling a long illness with ovarian cancer.
Born in Glens Falls on Nov. 20, 1960, she was the daughter of John and Carol (Durham) Tatsey.
Nina is known for her extreme devotion to her daughters and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Jeannette P. Bannon
Hudson Falls - Jeannette P. Bannon, 78, of Farley Road, Hudson Falls, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, following a long battle with cancer.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, followed by a 7 p.m. funeral at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
Lena L. Allen
Day - Lena L. Allen, 76 of Hollow Road, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 8, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on March 8, 1932, in the town of Day, she was a life long area resident and daughter of the late Harmon and Ella (Allen) Kathan. Lena worked for Pine Ridge Tavern many years ago and later worked at Van Raalte knitting mill in Saratoga Springs. She enjoyed spending time with her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Lena is predeceased by her husband, Cecil O. Allen, who died on July 4, 1980, a son, Ronald E. Shippee Jr., a daughter, Beverly Jean Anderson and all of her brothers and sisters.
Irene Cox
QUEENSBURY - Irene Cox, 91, a resident of Queensbury, passed away on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.
She was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Vermont, and was the daughter of the late Leo and Helen (Bennett) Larocque.
Irene enjoyed spending time with her children and five generations of grandchildren. She also enjoyed having her hair done, playing cards and her pets.
Joshua James Birman
QUEENSBURY - Joshua James Birman, age 28, of North Sunnyside Road, died
Saturday evening, Aug. 9, 2008.
Arrangements are pending under the direction of Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
Jeannette P. Bannon
HUDSON FALLS - Jeannette P. Bannon, 78, of Farley Road, Hudson Falls, passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 13, 1930, in Plattsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Beatrice (Stockdale) King.
For many years, Jeannette worked in the housekeeping department at Glens Falls Hospital.
Vera G. Gregory
WARRENSBURG - Vera G. Gregory, 82, of Main Street, passed away Saturday evening, Aug. 9, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born July 9, 1926, in Manhattan, she was the daughter of the late John and Yolanda (Bizarre) Williams.
Vera married her childhood sweetheart, Louis T. Gregory, upon his return from World War II on Sept. 13, 1947. The couple started their family in Brooklyn and after the birth of their first four sons, moved to Cambria Heights, Queens, where they completed their family of seven children.
Arlene Frances Kruger
QUEENSBURY - Arlene Frances Kruger, 73, a resident of Queensbury, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at the Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury.
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
