Elizabeth Teale
SIDNEY — Elizabeth "Betty" Teale, 75, of 71 Camp Meeting St., Sidney, passed away peacefully Friday, May 18, 2001, in The Hospital, Sidney.
She was born April 4, 1926, in Masonville, the daughter of the late Lewis and Marjorie Gifford Peck.
On Nov. 20, 1944, she married Claude Teale in North Sanford.
Betty was a homemaker and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Masonville.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Claude Teale, Sidney; three daughters and a son-in-law, Jean and Jim Lane, Providence, R.I., Claudia Berkeley, Afton, and Bonnie Burnett, North Afton; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Renee Teale, Sidney; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Warner, West Edmeston, Marie and Richard Cumm, Lakeland, Fla., Rosalind and Rusty Voltz, Masonville, and Patricia and Robert Underwood, Otego; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Janetta Peck, Masonville, Gary and Lori Peck, Wells Bridge, Ralph and Viletta Peck, Masonville, and Reginald and Carol Peck, Masonville; 11 grandchildren, Cheri Pinney, Kenneth Lane, Aimee Drywa, Brenda Brosnahan, Ryan, Aaron and Adam Berkeley, Brittney and Robbie Burnett, Nathan and DeAnna Teale; eight great-grandchildren, Sylisha, Eric, Kenny, David, Kendra, Dawson, Morgan and Dylan; three sisters-in-law, Foorana Peck, Unadilla, Vivian Peck, Sidney, and Betty Teale, Bainbridge; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Five brothers, Stewart, Raymond, Howard, Keith and Ronald Peck; and two sisters, Mary Sines and Joyce Possemato predeceased Betty.
Elizabeth was a churchgoer and she will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Joseph Furano, pastor of the Higher Ground Christian Church, Afton, officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. till time of services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Ralph A. Holdridge
COLUMBUS — Ralph A. Holdridge, 93, of Holdridge Road, New Berlin, died on Friday, May 18, 2001, at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 28, 1908, in Columbus, the son of Hiram and Lena Miller Holdridge.
In 1940, in Richmond, Va., he married Gladys Tankesley. She predeceased him in 1964. He was also predeceased by his sister, Helen (Betty) Eaves, in 1998, and his daughter, Margaret Perkins, in 1997.
Ralph was a well-known gun dealer and collector of antique guns. An avid hunter and gun enthusiast, he was a lifelong member of the NRA. He was also a member of various organizations related to shooting and hunting.
Surviving are two grandsons, Roger Adams of New Berlin and Terry Adams of San Antonio, Texas; one granddaughter, Debbie Williams of Norwich; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, Leslie, Rhiannon, Lindsay, Brittanni, Trisstann and Taylor; several nieces and nephews, Helen Coman and Milt Anson of New Berlin, Leona Neal of Richmond, Va., Reuben Locks of Macon, Ga., Janet Coleman of Cape May, N.J., Sally Lasher of Marietta, Ga., Fred Eaves of Hamilton, Richard Eaves of Lubbock, Texas, Bob Eaves Jr. of Morrisville, Sandy Delp of Woodland, Calif., and Elizabeth Joerger of Morrisville; and many loving friends.
He was predeceased by one nephew, Boyd Bailey of Maple Plain, Minn.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, 17 North Main St., New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening, May 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Columbus Corners Cemetery, South Edmeston.

Janice A. Galasso
COBLESKILL — Janice A. Galasso of Davies Lane, Cobleskill, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at home, after a long illness.
Mrs. Galasso was born on Oct. 15, 1941, in Columbus, Ind., daughter of Andy and Aldean Custer Dilk.
Her early years were spent in Columbus.
She moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1963, and to Cobleskill, in 1966.
After graduation from high school in Columbus, she received a BS in education from Indiana University and a MS of special education from the College of St. Rose in Albany. She was an elementary education teacher in the Middleburgh Central School system and later was a special education teacher in the Cobleskill Central School.
She was the director of Cobleskill Head Start Child Development Center, retiring in 1987.
On Feb. 12, 1966, in Columbus, Ind., she was married to Martin A. Galasso.
She was a communicant of Saint Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill.
She is survived by her husband Martin A. Galasso of Cobleskill; two sons, Mark A. Galasso of Cobleskill and Martin A. Galasso Jr. of Summit; a daughter, Marsa A. Galasso of Summit; a granddaughter, Julia M. Galasso; two grandsons, Matthew A. and August M. Galasso; a brother, Charles Dilk of Columbus, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Saint Vincent de Paul Church, Washington Heights, Cobleskill, with the Rev. Thomas F. Berardi, celebrant, officiating. Interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday, May 21, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St., Cobleskill.

Keith Hard
SIDNEY CENTER — Keith Hard, 76, of 4664 State Highway 206, Sidney Center, passed away Saturday morning, May 19, 2001, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Masonville, the son of the late Raymond and Olive Knapp Hard.
On Sept. 16, 1944, he married Luella "Woody" Hurlburt in Cannonsville.
For several years, Keith was a machinist with the Bendix-Amphenol Corp., Sidney.
He was a member of the Charles L. Jacobi Post 183, American Legion and the Corp. R.H. Arrandale Post 7914 VFW, both in Sidney, and the I.A.M. & A.W. Local 1529 Sidney.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Luella "Woody" Hard, Sidney Center; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Gerald Palmer of Bainbridge, Patricia and Kenneth Lent of Masonville, Penny and Ernest Scott of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Susan Herring of Unadilla and her companion, Thomas Kozak of Mount Upton; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Belva Wilson of Sidney, Mildred Hard of Sidney, Inez and Stanley McCumber of Sidney, Shirley and Reed Davidson of Sidney, and Phyllis and Wayne McMullen of Bainbridge; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Keith was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Hard; and a sister, Neva Speed.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2001, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Shank, vicar of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonville Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call from 3 p.m. to the time of services at 4 p.m. at the funeral chapel with his family in attendance.

Lenore W. Sloan
MORRIS — Lenore W. Sloan, 81, passed away Jan. 20, 2001, in Mesa, Ariz.
She was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Glens Falls, to Ernest Wilkins and Mary Underwood.
She received a bachelor of education at State Teachers College in Oneonta and taught at Gilbertsville Central School for many years. After retirement she moved to Arizona in 1982 from Morris.
She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Morris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolphus W. Sloan.
She is survived by a son, Douglas Sloan of Watertown; a daughter, Mary Jane Mitchell of Pine City; and six grandchildren, Jason Edward and Mary Patricia Mitchell and Katherine Clara, Molly Elizabeth, Meagan Lenore, and Bryan Patrick Sloan.
Graveside services will be held at Hillington Cemetery in Morris on May 25, 2001, at 1 p.m.
Local arrangements are by Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.
Leon C. Gumaer
MILFORD — The Rev. Leon C. Gumaer passed away Sunday, May 20, 2001.
He was born in Benton Township, Pa., on April 9, 1937. He was the son of Neil and Pauline (Gougoulis) Gumaer.
He was survived by his father, Neil; and his daughters, Erica Gumaer and Kristen Gumaer-Green; his son-in-law, Roger Green; and his granddaughter, Sydney. He is also survived by his mother's sisters, Mary Murphy and Annastia (Nonnie) Lafean; and many members of his extended family.
His lifelong profession was being a minister. He was a part of the Wyoming Conference as a United Methodist pastor from 1967 until his illness in 1995. Leon served the Milford United Methodist Church parish from 1982 until 1990. He loved the people of Portlandville, Milford and Westville and enjoyed his ministry here. In those years, he was actively involved with Milford school and in the Milford community.
When he became ill, he returned to live in Milford and, for as long as he could, he remained active in the community.
He was a graduate of North High School in Binghamton. He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He was a graduate of Broome Community College. He received his theological training at American University in Washington, D.C.
His published stories appeared in Thanatos magazine in the 1970s.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Milford, with the Rev. Nancy Kowolski officiating. He will be buried at Clifford Cemetery, in Clifford, Pa., on Friday in the family plot.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Milford Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 359, Milford, N.Y. 13807 in his memory would be appreciated by the family.

Alice M. Tilison
MIDDLEBURGH — Mrs. Alice M. (Drake) Tilison, 74, of the Valley Mobile Trailer Park in Middleburgh, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the Albany County Nursing Home in Colonie, where she had been a resident for one week.
Mrs. Tilison was born May 28, 1926, in Oneonta, the daughter of William and Nellie (Spencer) Drake.
She had resided in the Valley Mobile Trailer Park since 1995, having previously resided in Howes Cave.
Mrs. Tilison was a graduate of the Oneonta High School and later the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill, where she received her education as a dietitian.
She and her husband owned and operated the former Tilison's Lunch in Howes Cave from 1970 until retiring in 1993. Mrs. Tilison was an avid cook and prepared wedding cakes for many years for family and friends.
She was married to George L. Tilison on Dec. 18, 1953, and until his death on Sept. 7, 1993.
Mrs. Tilison is survived by her brother, Nelson Drake of Kenmore; a half-brother, Eugene Drake of Waco, Texas; one stepsister, Frances Crumb of Smithville Flats; and one daughter, Karen Cartwright of Middleburgh.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at the Langan Funeral Home, 21 North Main St., Central Bridge. Burial will follow in the Bramanville Prospect Cemetery, Bramanville, with the Rev. Steffen A. Zehrfubs, pastor of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Langan Funeral Home, 21 North Main St., Central Bridge.

Watson Eggleston Jr.
Johnson CITY — Watson Eggleston Jr., 88, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at the Hilltop Methodist retirement home in Johnson City.
Watson was born in Pekin on May 16, 1913, the son of Watson Sr. and K. Frances (Bye) Eggleston.
He was married to Myra Lois Hoover on Feb. 1, 1935. Myra predeceased Watson on May 4, 1988. He was also predeceased by his brother, S. Edward, on March 20, 1995.
Watson graduated from Niagara Falls High School and RIT where he received a degree in chemical engineering.
He then went on to work for the DuPont Co. in Niagara Falls as a research chemist retiring in 1973, after 38 years of service. During this same period of time he successfully operated an 80-acre cattle farm in Newfane, where he resided for most of his life.
After retirement, Watson moved to Sidney and lived there with his wife for several years and was an active member of the Sidney United Methodist Church.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, June and John Schoelles of Hillsdale, N.J.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Anne Eggleston of Newfane and Lloyd and Paula Eggleston of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2001, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. David Masland officiating. Burial will be in Pekin at a later date.

Nora L. Rowe
NEW BERLIN — Nora L. Rowe, 55, of New Berlin, died Monday, May 21, 2001, in Norwich.
She was born July 19, 1945, in the town of New Berlin, the daughter of Harold and Florence (Garrett) Rowe.
Her childhood was spent in the town of New Berlin.
She graduated from South New Berlin High School.
She is survived by one sister, Alice Ayers of the town of New Berlin.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in South New Berlin. She was a member of the Rebeka Lodge in South New Berlin.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor of the St. Matthew's Church, South New Berlin, officiating.
Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
There will be no calling hours.

Hamilton Kinney
DULUTH, Ga. — Hamilton James Kinney, infant son of Warren G. and Pamela R. Kinney of Duluth, Ga., died May 6, 2001, at the DeKalb Medical Center, Decatur, Ga.
He is survived by his parents, and his paternal grandmother, Shirley S. Kinney of Morris, N.Y.; his maternal grandfather, James Roe, and his wife, Carol, of Milford, N.Y.; his brother, Spencer W. Kinney of Duluth, Ga.; his aunt and uncle, Annette and Jeff Simmons of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and several great-aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Warren C. Kinney; and his maternal grandmother, Martha K. Roe.
A funeral service was held May 12, 2001, at the First Baptist Church, Duluth, Ga., and a private burial and graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on May 26, 2001, at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.
Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Duluth Ga., in memory of Hamilton James Kinney.

Ralph S. Horton
CAMP VERDE, Ariz. — Ralph S. Horton of Camp Verde, Ariz., died May 17, 2001.
He was born May 31, 1918, in Oneonta, N.Y., to the late Earl E. Horton and Cora Gillett Horton.
Mr. Horton was a World War II 3rd Army Division veteran, serving 10 months in England before joining the Allied Expeditionary Forces Invasion of Omaha Beach in France. He received five Battle Stars and a Silver Star.
He made his home in Otego, N.Y., farming and truck driving. Retiring in 1981, he relocated to Cottonwood and Clarkdale, Ariz.
He was a member of VFW Post 7400, Cottonwood.
Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; son, Carl, and his wife, Gladys Crow Horton.
Survivors include a stepdaughter and son in-law, Janet Crow Moore and Bryant Moore of Monticello, Ga.
Katherine O. Horth
ONEONTA — Graveside committal services for Katherine Horth, who passed away at her home on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2001, at the Maryland Cemetery, with the Rev. Judy Thistle officiating.
