Carla C. Hinkley
SIDNEY — Carla C. Hinkley, 35, of Sidney, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, March 18, 2001, in Sidney.
She was born April 12, 1965, in Ziest, Holland.
Carla was a waitress in the Tri-Town area for many years. She most recently worked at Nancy's Place, Sidney.
She attended the Afton First Baptist Church, Afton.
She is survived by her husband, Michael D. Hinkley of Sidney; a son, Jeffrey Lowe of Sidney; her parents, Shirley and Jeff Butler of Afton; three sisters, Tonya and Angela Morgan, both of North Syracuse, and Elisha Ward of Rockledge, Fla.; and her maternal grandparents, Elbert and Helen Edson of Afton. She was also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Christopher Prezorski, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Afton, officiating. Burial will be at her families convenience in the Glenwood Cemetery, Afton.
At the family's request, there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, East Main Street, Sidney.
Richard Moore
ONEONTA — Richard Moore, of Oneonta, died March 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Peninsula, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Moore of Oneonta; one son, Allen R. Moore of Vail, Colo.; two daughters, Ann M. Butler of Saratoga Springs and Janis Rowe of Stamford; his mother, Emma L. Moore of Cooperstown Junction; two sisters, Theresa Vamosy of Stamford and Patricia MacCraken of Cooperstown Junction; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
John Gallagher Sr.
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — John Phillip Gallagher Sr., 78, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Avante of Ormond Beach, Fla.
Mr. Gallagher was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and moved to Florida in 1978, coming from Morris, N.Y., and New Berlin, N.Y.
He owned the Knotty Pine furniture shop.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Daytona Beach.
He had 56 years of continuous membership in the American Legion, Post #6, DeLand, was a life member of the DAV, Orange City, and vice commander of VFW Post #2380, DeLand. He was a service officer for all three.
He was the founder of the transportation shuttle for West Volusia veterans. He was also involved in establishing and rededicating the Veteran's Memorial at the county courthouse in West Volusia.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient. He was presented with the French Croix de Guerre by President DeGaulle. He served in the 101st Airborne and Ranger Battalion during World War II in the European theater as a master sergeant and commissioned officer. He served with William Casey in the original O.S.S.
He enjoyed golf and wood working.
Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife of 41 years, Constance Sheldon Gallagher; three sons; two daughters; two sisters in New York; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Volusia Memorial Funeral Home was in charge.
Edna Hornbeck
UNADILLA — Mrs. Edna Finch Hornbeck, formerly of Barnes Trailer Park, Covered Bridge Road, Unadilla, passed away Monday, March 19, 2001, at the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford.
Mrs. Hornbeck was born Aug. 18, 1901, in Tacoma, the daughter of William H. and Lena (Brundege) Finch.
On March 22, 1922, she married Randall A. Hornbeck in the Trout Creek Baptist Church. They shared 41 years of marriage.
Mrs. Hornbeck was a homemaker and also worked at Scintilla in Sidney.
She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and the Delaware Rebecca Lodge in Trout Creek and was a former Nobel Grand.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Morris and Lillian Hornbeck of Sidney Center; her daughter-in-law, Jeannine Hornbeck of Trout Creek; her sister Jennie Lambrecht of Franklin; her son-in-law, Ralph Munson of Trout Creek; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Randall; her daughter, Elnora Munson; her son Lloyd Hornbeck; her brothers, Norman S. Finch and Burton Laverne Finch; her sisters Mabel Eckhardt and Edith Starbird.
Funeral services will be held at the Joyce Funeral Home, Inc., on Thursday, March 22, 2001, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. R. Michael Amos, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.
The family will receive friends at the Joyce Funeral Home, Inc., on Thursday, March 22, from noon to 1 p.m.

Robert C. Jennings
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Robert C. Jennings died Feb. 26, 2001, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla., after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Scranton, Pa., son of Charles E. and Francis (Trask) Jennings. The family moved to Phoenix Mills and Robert attended and graduated from Cooperstown High School.
He then enlisted in the Navy, serving from June 1943 until April 1946, when he was honorably discharged. While in the Navy he served on the USS Paducah. Over the years he had kept in touch with his shipmates by attending reunions.
He was a charter member of the DAV Post 59 in Anchorage, Alaska, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 579 and a member of the VFW Post 7128 in Cooperstown.
He married Lucille Rhinehardt in South Carolina and they returned to the Cooperstown area.
Robert worked in Richfield Springs, Cooperstown, Sidney and Bainbridge.
His sense of adventure led him and his family to Alaska. Robert arrived in Anchorage in 1956 and served as an officer on the Anchorage Police Force until the early '60s. He was an entrepreneur in the '60s, owning and operating Muldoon Television and Radio Repair Shop and the Whitehouse Market.
In 1971, he relocated to Bethel, Alaska, and took a position with the Alaska State Housing Authority. He retired in 1992, back to Cooperstown.
He is survived by his sons, Robert C. II and Stephen of Anchorage and Terry of Bethel, Alaska; his grandchildren, Veronica, Robert III and Jennifer Jennings; and his great-grandchildren, Curtis and Monique Jennings. Also surviving are two brothers and their wives, Gerald and Millie Jennings and Ronald and Edie Jennings; his sister, Alice Tomasi; two sisters-in-law, Laura Jennings and Lorraine Jennings; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers Richard, Arnold and Douglas.
A full military funeral will be held at Fort Richardson at the National Cemetery in Alaska.
A memorial service will be held at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartwick Seminary on Saturday, March 31, 2001, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Messner, pastor, officiating.
Lisa Romiti
ONEONTA — Lisa G. Romiti, 86, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born June 25, 1914, in Oneonta, the daughter of Francesco and Lucia (Valentini) Colone.
She married Domenico Romiti on Oct. 31, 1937, in Roccavivi, Italy. He died June 1, 1996.
She was a seamstress at the Oneonta Dress Factory until her retirement in 1976.
Lisa was a member of St. Mary's Church, as well as the Young at Heart Club and the Italian-American Club.
She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Armida and Mark Colone of Oneonta and Rita and Natale Colone of Berwick, Pa.; four grandchildren, Mark D. Colone of Charlotte, N.C., Anthony L. Colone of Williamsburg, Va., Maria Torruella of Oneonta and Bernardo R. Colone of Berwick, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Marisa and Matthew Colone of Williamsburg, Va., and Logan and Olivia Colone of Charlotte, N.C. She is also survived by three brothers, Ani Colone of Oneonta, Albert R. Colone of Oneonta and Enio Colone of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Italy.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Maria Colone, Ida Balenzisi and Ethel Seider.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Paul A. Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be later in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., at which times the family will be in attendance.

Helen M. Freer
SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Helen M. Freer, 66, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
She was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Peter J. and Helen (Katterhorn) Ennis.
She married George Freer on July 24, 1955, in Cresskill, N.J.
Mr. Freer survives, as do two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jack Hank of Richmond, Va., and Cheryl and Brian Protsko of Maybrook; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Pam Freer of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Freer was a housewife in her own home. She was a member of the Cresskill, N.J., Auxiliary of the Fire Department; communicant and lector of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Catholic Church in South Kortright and a member of the Hobby Club of Hobart.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with Rev. Fr. John Burns celebrant. Calling hours will be on Friday afternoon 2 to 4 p.m. and evening 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will be in the spring at North Kortright Cemetery, North Kortright.

Frank P. Travisano
JAMESBURG, N.J. — Frank P. Travisano, 80, of Jamesburg, N.J., died Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Princeton Medical Center, Princeton, N.J.
Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Travisano was the president and owner of the Darwin Phoenix Co. of Monroe Twp. for the past 25 years.
Previously he was the president of both the Franklin Machine Co. and Acme Plating Works, both of Newark.
He was a Rutgers College graduate of 1943 and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a past president of the Rutgers Alumni Association and of the Newark Rotary Club.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Drees Travisano; three sons, Peter and his wife, Carol, of Phillipston, Mass., Thomas and his wife, Elsa, of Oneonta, N.Y., and James and his wife, Lilia, of Barboursville, Va.; two daughters, Patricia and her husband, Vincent Anderson, of Angola, Ind., and Teresa Travisano of Califon, N.J.; two sisters, Frances DeMartin of Montclair, N.J., and Reffie Lawrence of Asbury Park, N.J.; and five grandchildren, Michael and Emily Travisano of Oneonta, Laura and Alex Travisano of Phillipston, Mass., and Travis Cruce of Califon, N.J.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Fairmount Cemetery, Newark, N.J.

May B. Vitolo
DELHI — May B. Vitolo, 95, of Countryside Care Center, Delhi, and formerly of Unadilla and Sidney, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at her residence.
She was born on Oct. 27, 1905, in Stamford, the daughter of Arthur H. and Elnora (Borst) Johnson.
She was married to Joseph J. Vitolo on June 12, 1928, in Yonkers. Mr. Vitolo died March 16, 1982.
May was a graduate of Yonkers General Hospital School of Nursing and practiced nursing during her early years of marriage.
She had been a resident of Unadilla from 1956 until the death of her husband, in 1982, when she moved to Sidney.
She was a former member of the Sidney Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and later became a member of the Hamden Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and nephews, nieces and grand-nephews and grandnieces.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with the Rev. Dominic Bethel, minister of the Hamden Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating.
Burial will be later in Maryland Cemetery, Maryland.
There will be no calling hours.

Carla Kroes
NORWICH — Carla Kroes, 97, of Norwich, formerly of Meridale and Oneonta, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in Norwich.
She was born on April 9, 1903, in Echten, Netherlands, the daughter of the late Johannes and Luitje Frankema Zylstra.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Kroes, in 1974; a daughter, Lucia Benjamin, in 1976; two brothers, Johannes and Jan Zylstra; and a sister, Elizabeth Klynsma.
She is survived by one son, Johannes (Joe) Kroes and his wife, Janet, of Baldwinsville; three daughters, Yeska Dibble and her husband, Donald, of South New Berlin, Elizabeth Palmer and her husband, Roy, of East Meredith and Yanna Weber of Lees Summit, Mo.; a son-in-law, Robert Benjamin of South New Berlin; one brother, Theun Zylstra of the Netherlands; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kroes married Richard Kroes on May 5, 1927, in Lemmer, Netherlands. They moved to the United States in 1952, settling in Meridale, where Richard was a herdsman for Meridale Farms. They lived some time in South New Berlin before coming to Oneonta. She remained a resident of Oneonta until moving to Norwich in 1990.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Daniel W. Age, pastor of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin, officiating. Spring interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridale, next to her late husband, Richard. The family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.

Jacob Mravlja
DECATUR — Jacob Mravlja, 92, of Decatur, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.
He was born July 28, 1908, in Imperial, Pa., the son of Jacob and Mary (Abonar) Mravlja.
He married Angela Polich on Sept. 7, 1930, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Worcester. She predeceased him on Dec. 12, 1989.
In 1918, he moved to Decatur.
Jake was at one time a coal miner in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was employed by the D&H Railroad. After his marriage he became a self-employed dairy farmer in Decatur.
Jake was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Worcester, Agway, The Dairy Farmers of America and Genex.
He is survived by two sons, George Sr. and his wife, Betty Mravlja, of Decatur and Richard and his wife, Constance Mravlja, of Decatur; a daughter, Dorothy and her husband, Charles Vroman, of Richmondville; eight grandchildren, Mike Vroman and Michelle Davis, both of Richmondville, George Mravlja Jr. of Worcester, Peter Mravlja of Decatur, Tina Schoeberl of Schenevus, Jill Close of Worcester and William Close and Matthew Close, both of New Jersey; eight great-grandchildren, Regina Vroman and Justin Davis of Richmondville, Nathan and Kayla Davis of Cobleskill, Christopher and Sandra Mravlja of Worcester and Richard and Bethaney Stein of Worcester; a brother, Frank Mravlja of East Worcester; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held Friday, March 23, 2001, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, Worcester, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a recitation of the Rosary at 8:15 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant.
Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Worcester, at a later date.
