Marie Groesser

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Marie Groesser, 87, formerly of Toddsville, died early Monday morning, March 5, 2001, at The Meadows.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1913, in the city of New York, a daughter of Eugene and Elizabeth (Kelsch) Schaeffer.

She married Emil Groesser on Sept. 29, 1935, in Brooklyn. Mr. Groesser died on May 7, 1985.

Raised in Brooklyn, Marie attended Catholic Grammar School. She then attended a business school in Brooklyn for one year and then began her employment as a secretary in New York City at the age of 14.

In 1950, she moved to Cooperstown with her husband and daughter and, for many years was employed as a bookkeeper by the Lake Front Motel until retiring at the age of 70.

She was a member of the Home Bureau and attended Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown and Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church.

A devoted wife and mother, she was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and crossword puzzles.

Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice M. and Manfred Brandofsky of Cooperstown; her two granddaughters, Mrs. Ava Schweikert and her husband, Mark, of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. June Helmus and her husband, Peter, of New Milford, Conn.; her three great-grandchildren, Erna Schweikert, Alexandra Marie Helmus and Tyler Helmus.

In addition to her husband, Emil, she was predeceased by a stepsister, Mrs. Cecelia Roth, who died July 22, 1979.

A memorial service will be held at the Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul R. Messner, pastor, officiating, on a day and time to be announced in May. Burial will follow in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Joyce L. Reynolds

SIDNEY — Joyce (Peachie) Reynolds, 74, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at her home in Sidney, following a long illness.

She was born March 6, 1926, in Gregorytown, the town of Colchester, to Corbin and Florence (Fuller) Peck.

She married Charles Reynolds on July 20, 1946, in Sidney.

Peachie was raised in Roxbury, moving to Sidney with her family in 1942.

She was active in Girl Scouting, the Twin Rivers Sertoma Club and the Sidney High School Alumni Association. Peachie was a member of The Sidney Hospital Guild, volunteering many hours and co-chairing the scheduling of the workers in the Coffee Shop. She received a Sertoma International Centurion Award in 1998 and was named Twin Rivers Sertoman of the Year in 1999.

Peachie was very artistic, enjoying ceramics, needlework and all kinds of crafts. She dedicated her time and her thoughts to her family, friends and especially her grandchildren, and she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her son, Tracy Reynolds of Bainbridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Janine and Cork O'Hara of Bainbridge and Renee and Frank Grobsky of Colonie; her grandchildren, Rachael Reynolds, Amy Maurer, Sheri Reynolds, Jamie Susi, Joshua Susi, Bryan O'Hara, Bridget Engel and Haley Engel; four great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Elna and Jim Hinkley of Roxbury; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Anne Peck of  South Carolina; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Her daughter-in-law, Nancy Reynolds, predeceased her.

It was Peachie's request that she be cremated, with an announced committal service to take place in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Funeral Home, Sidney.

Marie L. Babbitt

GHENT — Marie L. Babbitt died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Green Manor Nursing Home, Ghent.

She was born Aug. 27, 1915, in the town of Georgetown, the daughter of Alfred and Hazel Lord.

She lived in Green Manor Adult Home since 1995. She was a resident most of her life in Oneonta. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughters, Marion Ray of Athens and Dorothy Lyons of Wendell, N.C.; sister, Grace VanCuren of Oneonta; and grandchildren, David and Carolyn Ray of Albany.

She was predeceased by her husband, James Babbitt in 1987; a sister, Edith Cook in 1966; and a brother, Morell Lord in 1995.

There will be a memorial service at Plains Cemetery in Oneonta at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send contributions to the American Red Cross or the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical Center.

Vincent Bivona Sr.

STAMFORD — Vincent Bivona Sr., 92, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

He was an area resident for 18 years, relocating from West Sayville.

Vincent is survived by his wife of 70 years, Josephine; three sons, Vincent Jr. of Stamford, Andrew of Elmont and William of  Jefferson; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., (corner of Liberty Street), Stamford, today at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Charles Gockel officiating.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William A. Tari Funeral Home, Stamford.

Alfred Phillips

WEST WINFIELD — Alfred James Phillips, 60, of West Winfield and formerly of Middleville, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born March 6, 1941, in Edmeston, the son of Harold and Katherine (Colburn) Phillips.

He was married to Ruth Livingston in Morris on June 15, 1969.

He was employed as a dairy farmer for the Kelleher Farms of Middleville for several years.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of West Winfield; his children, Darlene Miller of Morris, Dawn Phillips of Marksville, La., and Scott Phillips of Fairfield; two sisters, Frances Grenz of Tampa, Fla., and Juanita Brown of Morris; two brothers, Harold (Smiley) Phillips of Morris and Fred (Joe) Phillips of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, David Phillips.

There will be no calling hours and funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to their favorite charity in his memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

James A. Miller

SUMMIT — James "Jimmy" A. Miller, 10, of Route 10, died suddenly on Monday, March 5, 2001, at the Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill after being stricken at his home.

Jimmy was born July 18, 1990, in Albany, and was the son of James M. and Ilene (McCue) Miller, who both survive him.

Jimmy was a fourth-grade student at the Radez School in Richmondville.

He was a member of the orchestra, playing the violin. Jimmy was a former member of the Richmondville Boy Scout Troop. He participated in the valley soccer club's summer league. Jimmy enjoyed building models and drawing. He also loved all animals.

Jimmy was a communicant of St. Anna's Catholic Church of Summit, where he was also an altar boy.

Survivors include his parents, James M. and Ilene (McCue) Miller; two sisters, Megan and Stephanie Miller, both of Summit; maternal grandparents, Dr. William and Jane McCue of Central Bridge; paternal grandparents, Floyd and Lillian Miller of Daytona, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, at the St. Vincent de Paul Church,  Washington Heights, Cobleskill, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School String Music Department,  Washington Heights, Cobleskill, N.Y. 12043.

Marion R. Reynolds

WORCESTER — Marion R. Reynolds, 91, of Worcester, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born on Nov. 18, 1909, in Stamford, the daughter of Louis and Anthie (Turk) Cornell.

She married Edwin J. Reynolds on Sept. 9, 1930, in Roxbury. He predeceased her in 1976.

Mrs. Reynolds moved to Worcester 91/2 years ago from Grand Gorge.

Mrs. Reynolds was a member of the Grand Gorge Fire Auxiliary.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Dorothy M. Reynolds of Worcester; three grandchildren, Daryl Reynolds and his wife, Karen, of Oneonta, Thomas Reynolds of Worcester and Lisa Reynolds of Oneonta; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Megan, Tyler, Zachary and Colby; a sister, Florence Riley of Catskill; two nieces, Maydlyn VanVaulkenburgh of Catskill and Kay Spaulding of Schenectady; and a nephew, Kenneth Miner of Schenectady.

She was predeceased by her son, Edwin Reynolds, on Aug. 25, 2000.

A graveside service will be held at the Stamford Cemetery later in the spring, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor of the Worcester United Methodist Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mrs. Reynolds to the Grand Gorge Fire Auxiliary or the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad, Grand Gorge, N.Y. 12434.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Rose Fianchino

NORTH HARPERSFIELD — Rose Fianchino, 61, died suddenly Saturday, March 3, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Rose Ciccarelli, the daughter of Bertha and Ralph Ciccarelli, on May 20, 1939, in Brooklyn.

After relocating from Brooklyn in 1978, she lived in North Harpersfield. Rose worked as a nurses aid at the Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.

She was predeceased by her husband of 22 years, Salvatore, in 1993.

Rose is survived by her two daughters, Nicole of North Harpersfield and Yvette Wrobel and her husband, Eric, of Patchogue; two sons, Daniel Kinnick and his wife, Lori, of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Ralph Kinnick and his wife, Doreen, of Middletown, N.J. Also surviving are her two brothers, Jack and Ken Mullane, and seven grandchildren, Danny, Jeffrey, Vincent, Stephanie, Samantha, Brandon and Shawn.

Donations may be made in Rose's name to the  Jefferson Rescue Squad.

Friends may call at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St. (corner of Liberty Street), Stamford on Thursday, March 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 9, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Warren Van Looy officiating.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William A. Tari Funeral Home, Stamford.

Lorraine Reidy

DAVENPORT — Lorraine Reidy, 77, of Davenport, died March 5, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Aug. 25, 1923, the daughter of William and Alean (Zimmerman) Smith.

She was married to Donald Reidy. He passed away Dec. 5, 1986.

A housewife in her own home, she moved to Davenport 20 years ago from Paramus, N.J. She was a member of Davenport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Rebekkahs of the Odd Fellows in Davenport.

She is survived by a friend, Stoddard Parks, Davenport; a son, Stephen Reidy of Davenport; a daughter, Julie Granese of New Jersey; an adopted daughter, Sharon Teeter of Davenport; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Stickle of Afton.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport, at 9 a.m., with the Rev. Ken Brookens, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Oneonta.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Harold F. See

ONEONTA — Harold F. See, 85, of Oneonta, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 6, 1916, in the Bronx, the son of Charles and Katie (Joyce) See.

He married Laura D. Copeland. She died Feb. 8, 1988.

Mr. See was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater as a scuba and deep sea diver and was a member of the team working on the Normandy Salvage Operation.

He has been a resident of Oneonta since 1985, and previously resided in Port Richey, Fla., Delaware county and the Bronx.

Mr. See was a retired truck and bus driver.

He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Kropp of Oneonta; four sons, William Copeland and Robert, Thomas and James See; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Shockley.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be later in Grace Memorial Gardens, Hudson, Fla.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Ralph L. Bidwell

WORCESTER — Ralph L. Bidwell, 84, of Worcester, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Eden Park Healthcare Center in Cobleskill.

He was born July 12, 1916, in Erie, Pa., the son of Lyle and Helen (Tinker) Bidwell.

He married Frances Tracy on June 14, 1941. She predeceased him Jan. 29, 1995.

Mr. Bidwell was a United States Army veteran who had served in World War II. He attained the rank of corporal. He served with the 1201st Service Command Unit in the European Theater and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

In 1971, he moved to South Worcester from Hicksville.

Mr. Bidwell was employed with the U.S. government from 1945 to 1971, as a turret artillery repairman in Bellmore. He then worked for the Davenport Central School District as a school bus driver for 10 years, retiring in 1981.

Mr. Bidwell was a member of the American Legion in Hicksville, the Disabled American Veterans organization and the Oneonta Bowling League for many years.

He is survived by a son, Joseph Bidwell of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two grandchildren, John L. Bidwell of Scotia and Christine Bidwell of Albany; a special cousin, Frances Werling of Townville, Pa.; and several other cousins.

He was predeceased by his son John Bidwell, in 1992, and a sister-in-law, Marie Tracy in 1999.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 9, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor of the Worcester United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial with military honors will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, later in the spring.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Bidwell to the Eden Park Healthcare Center, 25 Parkway Dr., Cobleskill, N.Y. 12034.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.
