Gloria Todd
SAUGERTIES — Gloria Jean Austin Todd, 59, of Churchland Lane, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the Kingston Hospital.
She had been an area resident for many, many years.
She was an avid outdoors woman who enjoyed camping and fishing.
She loved her family and her focus was always for the children.
She was born April 12, 1941, in Stamford, daughter of the late Harold and Virginia Harris Austin.
She and her husband, Peter Todd, had been married 40 years.
Surviving are her husband, Peter; and sons, Richard and Russell of Saugerties and Ronald of North Carolina; six sisters, Stella Wynkoop of Saugerties, Shirley Reim of Elizabeth, N.J., June E. Tompkins of Stamford, Kay Baker of Jefferson, Linda Allen of Kendall and Virginia Marlow of Howes Cave; three brothers, Robert Austin of Sherburne, William Austin of Davenport and James Austin of Hobart.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard and Harold Jr.
A service to celebrate the life of Gloria Todd will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, at the corner of John and Lafayette Streets, Saugerties, with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt of the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diaz Ambulance or the National Diabetes Foundation.
Friends will be received Tuesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. until service time at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, Main Street, Phoenicia.
Josephine Morales
ROXBURY — Josephine A. Morales, 57, of Roxbury, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Crouse Memorial Hospital, Syracuse.
She was born Feb. 5, 1944, in Brooklyn, the daughter of John J. Gruosso and Cecile Stadnik.
She married Hugo Morales on Feb. 2, 1969, on Long Island.
She was employed at Mid-Island Hospital, Bethpage, Long Island. After moving to Roxbury, she worked at Kirkside Adult Home.
Presently she belonged to the We Care Ministry as a caregiver.
She was a member of the Catskill Mountain Christian Center, Margaretville.
She is survived by her husband, Hugo Morales of Roxbury; one daughter, Lisa Morales of Syracuse; one son, Victor and daughter-in-law, Alycia Morales, of Margaretville; two grandsons, Zachary and Ezra Morales; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Benedict and Mercedes Gruosso of Roxbury and John and Billie Jo Gruosso of Long Island; and one sister, Patricia Brown of Bethpage, Long Island.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Catskill Mountain Christian Center, Main Street, Margaretville, with the Rev. Robert Engelhardt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kelly Corners Cemetery.
Calling hours will be today at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Contributions may be made in memory of Josephine Morales to the Roxbury Fire Department Ambulance Fund, Roxbury.
Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Ruth A. Baker
ROXBURY — Ruth A. Baker, 77, of Roxbury, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Kings Park, Long Island, the daughter of William Herman Maken and Florence Ehrle.
She was married first to Charles Elflein on July 14, 1956, in Saugerties. He died Dec. 10, 1971. She was then married to William Baker on May 15, 1976, in Roxbury.
She was a secretary for Triboro Insurance Company and later a bookkeeper for Lutz Fuel Oil Company in Roxbury.
She was a resident of Roxbury since 1957.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Roxbury, and served on the Board of Elections in Roxbury for many years.
She is survived by her husband, William Baker, Roxbury; one son, Charles W. Elflein, Schenectady; one daughter, Ruth Ann and her husband, Brian Perazone of Roxbury; one stepdaughter, Lola Magliano of Suffern; one sister, Florence Catasinos of Little Neck, Long Island; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Roxbury, with Gerald Norris officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery, Roxbury.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Contributions may be made in memory of Ruth Baker to the Memorial Fund of the United Methodist Church, Roxbury.
Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Virginia Herman
UNADILLA — Virginia M. Herman, 85, of 3 Sanly St., Unadilla, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born May 9, 1915, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Harry and Edith (Nott) Herman.
She was a graduate of Newburgh High School, her bachelor's degree was from Cornell University, a master's degree from New York University and a master's degree from Columbia University Teacher's College.
Ms. Herman has been a resident of Unadilla since 1968 and retired in 1980 as an art teacher in the Unatego Central School System.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church of Unadilla, the Adirondack Club, Sierra Club, CCAL and the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts in Oneonta.
She is survived by several cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Unadilla, with the Rev. Richard H. Frye officiating.
Burial will be later in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
Jane Marino
ALBANY — Jane Marino of Schenevus passed away Feb. 8, 2001.
She was the beloved mother of Dennis and Joseph, dear sister of Miriam, Joseph, AnneMarie and Kathleen. She was the devoted grandmother of Dennis, Terrance and Joseph.
Funeral Mass and interment were held in Jackson Heights on Thursday, Feb. 15.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Schenevus. Friends are welcome to join the family after the Mass at the parish hall for a get-together in remembrance of Jane.
Kendall Marlette
MOUNT VISION — Kendall Carfield Marlette, 81, of Mount Vision, died Monday morning, Feb. 19, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1920, on the family farm in Mount Vision, a son of G. Gilbert and Elizabeth (Field) Marlette.
He married Bernice May Tilley on April 17, 1941, on the Marlette homestead.
Mr. Marlette grew up in Mount Vision and graduated from Hartwick High School. He then received a degree in animal husbandry from the State University College of Technology at Delhi.
He first worked at the Mount Upton Creamery and then for his uncle, Herbert Marlette. He went to Fonda, to work at the Grange League Federation just before going into a farming partnership with his brother, Howard Marlette.
In 1957, after his father's death, he took over the Mount Vision G.L.F. store (H.H. Marlette & Son), which his father had owned. After selling that store in the early 1960s, Mr. Marlette worked for Agway and also for the Cooperstown Agway agent buyers, Niles Curtis and Matt Barnes, until his death.
He was an active member of the Eastern A.I. Breeders, the Dairyman's League, the Farm Bureau, the Mount Vision United Methodist Church, the Mount Vision Cemetery Association, the Mount Vision Fire Department and was the current Master of the Otego Valley Grange No. 1327. He was also a former councilman for the town of Hartwick.
Mr. Marlette is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bernice of Mount Vision; his children, Jennie May Folts of Otego, Marilynn Folts and her husband, Ronald, of Toddsville, Gerald Marlette and his wife, Lora, of Mount Vision, Jerry Marlette and his wife, Christie, of Unadilla, Donna Miller and her husband, David, and Gloria Beers and her husband, Bradley, all of Mount Vision; his 18 grandchildren and their families; several great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Diane Marlette of Mount Vision; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Anna Tilley of Mount Vision.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Craig Folts, on Jan. 19, 1998.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at the Mount Vision United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger G. Yoder, pastor, officiating.
At Mr. Marlette's request, he has been cremated and his ashes will be buried at a later date in the Mount Vision Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mr. Marlette's family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Frances Peterson
HARTWICK — Frances C. Peterson, 78, of East Main Street, Hartwick, died Sunday evening, Feb. 18, 2001, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Frances was born on Jan. 5, 1923, in Dobbs Ferry, a daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Holm) Honeyman.
She was first married to Lyle A. Becker for 34 years. Mr. Becker died on Jan. 24, 1990. She was then married to Svend Guy Peterson for 10 years. Mr. Peterson died on Sept. 22, 1998.
She spent her early childhood on Long Island. Following her father's death, when she was 10 years old, she and her mother and sister moved to Utica. Upon her graduation from Thomas R. Proctor High School, Frances attended the Ithaca College of Music and Drama.
For many years she was a telephone operator for New York Telephone in Buffalo, retiring from there in the late 1970s.
Frances is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janne and Anthony Battaglia of Hamburg and Elisabeth F. and Richard Zimmerman of Elma; two grandchildren, Karl A. Kaye Jr. of Elma and Nicole Battaglia of Statesville, N.C.; one sister, Beatrix Solomon and her husband, Arthur, of Gilford, N.H.; several nieces and nephews; and two stepdaughters, Barbara J. Kane and Venda G. Peterson.
She was predeceased by her son, Lyle J. Becker, on Nov. 1, 1991.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. William A. Highfield, pastor of the Burlington Flats United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Hartwick Cemetery.
At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

Sandra Putnam
RICHMONDVILLE — Sandra Kay Putnam of Beards Hollow Road, Richmondville, died suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001.
Born Feb. 6, 1943, in Oneonta, daughter of Harry H. and Susan Ada Stoller Rice.
She was a graduate of Oneonta High School. She was employed as a directory-assistance operator in the Oneonta office of Verizon.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond L. Putnam of Richmondville; a daughter, Catherine Hedman of Cobleskill; four sisters, Roberta Persing of Rotterdam, Charlene Jaklitsch of East Meredith, Faith Klein of Maryland and Denise Wakin of Laurens; a brother, David Rice of Troy; her mother, Susan Ada Waldner in Florida; and her father and stepmother, Harry H. and Patricia Rice of Oneonta. She is also survived by two nieces; three nephews; two great-nieces; and a close family friend, Sherry Sega and her sons, Jeffrey and Matthew.
The visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St., Cobleskill. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Harry L. Wheeler
HOLDEN, Mass. — Harry L. Wheeler, 77, of 273 Holden St., died Jan. 18, 2001, at home after a long illness.
He leaves his wife, Priscilla D. (Robbio) Wheeler; a daughter, Nancy Biscardi of Holden; two brothers, Ralph Wheeler of South New Berlin, N.Y., and Francis Wheeler of Florida; a sister, Louise Leach of Maryland, N.Y.; and nephews and nieces.
A brother, Edward Wheeler, died in 1976.
He was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Oneonta, N.Y., and grew up in Morris, N.Y., where he attended school.
He is the son of Edward and Mary A. (O'Connor) Wheeler and lived 40 years in Holden.
He was a World War II and Korean War veteran, serving in the Army and the Air Force.
Mr. Wheeler was an optician and worked for Framingham Optical Co., Framingham.
He was a member of Burncoat Baptist Church, Worcester.
The memorial service will be held at the family's convenience.
