Edna Mae Makely
WORCESTER — Edna Mae Makely, 93, formerly of the Ten Eyck Apartments, Schenectady, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
She was born in East Durham.
She married Maynard B. Makely in 1937; he died in 1987.
Mrs. Makely lived in East Durham until 1944. She then moved to Worcester. She moved to Schenectady in 1960, moving back to Worcester a month ago.
She was a cook for the Big N in Rotterdam for several years, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of the Chapel Beside the Hill at the Ten Eyck Apartments.
She is survived by three daughters, Kay Winnie of Chaumont, Shirley Casale of San Marcos, CA, Rev. Elaiani Lane of Rotterdam Junction; one son, John Makely of Worcester; fifteen grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Friday, Dec. 29 2000, 1 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union St., Schenectady, the Rev. Lane will officiate.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Potter Hollow Cemetery, Potter Hollow.
Arrangements are made by the Gleason Funeral Home, Schenectady.
Jennie Wescott
ONEONTA — Jennie Wescott died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Fox Hospital, Oneonta. She had been a patient at the Fox Nursing Home for the last two years.
Jennie was born in Maryland, the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Rich.
She was first married to Leon O'dell and later to Hayden Wescott.
Jennie had worked for the Huyck Felt Co., Rensselaer, for many years and had resided in Albany since 1930.
She had attended the First Church in Albany, Reformed.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Lloyd Fraser; two grandchildren, Marilyn Steenrod and Ted Fraser, both of Oneonta; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Marion Dobson; and a sister, Laura Banner.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Frederick Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany.
Relatives and friends are also invited to call Friday after 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
Charles C. Dann
OXFORD — Charles C. Dann, 86, of Oxford and formerly of Sidney, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the NYS Veterans Home, Oxford.
He was born Sept. 26, 1914, the son of Elmer J. and Minnie Curtis Dann Sr. in Sidney.
He graduated from Sidney High School, the Class of 1931.
Charles married Elizabeth Dann on Nov. 26, 1936, in Mount Upton; she predeceased him on June 4, 1999.
In 1954, Mr. and Mrs. Dann began growing and hybridizing gladioli. They became well- known in the growers' circle throughout the country. In 1972 they received the honor of winning the World Grand Champion award in Toronto, Canada. They hybridized the Empire State Glad.
Mr. Dann was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney; he was a machinist inspector when he retired in 1976 after 40 years. After retirement, he was a courier for the Sidney Federal Credit Union.
Mr. Dann was a past member of the Sidney Masonic Lodge #801 F.&A.M., as well as a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Sidney.
He was a life member and former captain of the Sidney Fire Department, Phelps Hose Co. #1. Mr. Dann was also a police officer for the village of Unadilla from 1970 to 1979.
He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping.
He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Dann of Oneonta and Willard C. Dann of Sidney; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca "Becky" and David Leidy of Sidney; grandchildren, Lisa L. Dann of Cornwall, Conn., Michelle Stewart of Industry, Pa., Melinda Livingston of Sidney, Julia L. Dann of Minneapolis, Minn., Michael D. Leidy of Sidney and Elizabeth H. Leidy of Sidney; four great-grandchildren, Carly and Jilleen Livingston and Andrew and Jeffrey D. Stewart; sister-in-law, Martha Dann of Sidney; nephew, James Dann of Sherburne; and niece, MaryLou Clune of Sidney.
A daughter, Margaret Dann, and brother, Elmer Dann, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Sidney, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Varga, pastor, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or the Sidney Emergency Squad.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
Ward V. Baulch
BURLINGTON FLATS — Ward Vaughn Baulch, 87, of Burlington Flats, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Fox Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born in the town of Exeter, the son of Edgar and Doris (Joslyn) Baulch.
His mother died when Ward was 1 year old, and he was raised by his grandparents, Jay and Viola Joslyn.
He married Wilma Cole in Burlington Flats on Dec. 12, 2000; they had been married 66 years.
He had operated his own trucking business for many years and had also been employed by Earl Chase & Sons as a mechanic and driver. He had most recently been employed by the Otsego County Highway Department, retiring after more than 15 years of service.
Ward was of the Methodist faith and is survived by his wife, Wilma, of Burlington Flats; a daughter, Janet Fikes, and her husband, Arleigh, of Burlington Fiats; his grandchildren, Cindi Sue Patafle of Clinton and Terry Fikes and his wife, Nanette, of Burlington Flats; and his great-grandchildren, who include Steve and Kevin Patafie and Cassandra and Matthew Fikes. He is also survived by a sister, Elouise Leaman of Orange City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Sarah Baulch of Burlington Flats; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lysle Baulch, who died in 1992.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Baulch residence, at 150 Arnold Road, Burlington Flats, with the Rev. William Highfield officiating.
Calling hours will be on Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Baulch residence.
Friends are asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to the American Legion Post of Edmeston or the Edmeston Emergency Squad.

Victor P. Johnson
CAZENOVIA — Victor P. Johnson, 88, of 125 Lincklaen St., Cazenovia, died Dec. 27, 2000, at University Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born in Brookfield and lived most of his life in Cazenovia.
He was a graduate of Cazenovia Seminary and attended Syracuse University. He and his late brothers founded Johnson Brothers Lumber Co. in Cazenovia.
Mr. Johnson was a communicant of St. James Church in Cazenovia. He was the longest-appointed member of the New York State Forest Practice Board. He was a former member of the Cazenovia Advisory Conservation Committee, a former member of the Cazenovia Village Sewer Board, a former member of the Royal Knights Lancers and of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Knights of Lithuania.
Mr. Johnson is predeceased by his brothers, Stanley, John and William.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Helen O'Brien; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Judy Johnson of Cazenovia; his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Tom Moriarty of Oneonta; his grandchildren, Kara Connellan and Heather Johnson of Cazenovia, Michael Johnson of Cazenovia and Colleen Moriarty of Oneonta; three great-grandchildren, Kiley, Kathleen and T.J. Connellan of Cazenovia; his sister, Fran O'Hara of Etonah, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at St. James Church in Cazenovia.
Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Cazenovia.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the Tait Funeral Home Inc., 2333 Fenner Road, Cazenovia.

Olga T. Skinner
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Olga T. Skinner, 79, of McKoons Road, passed away on Dec. 26, 2000, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
She was born July 12, 1922, in the town of Columbia, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Martenue Tolopka.
She married John F. Skinner on Oct. 3, 1943.
She was one of the first graduates of Richfield Springs High School at the Main Street location.
Olga worked alongside her husband, John, on the dairy farm. They raised three children, John, Paul and Janet.
She was a member of the Millers Mills Grange and was active in supporting 4-H club activities.
She is remembered for serving homemade ice cream after the children played baseball in the haymow and making sure all the deer hunters had plenty to eat on Thanksgiving Day.
She is survived by her husband, John; a son, John M. Skinner of Houston; a daughter, Janet Elliott, and her husband, Gary, of the town of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Patricia Skinner of Cedarville; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Mathew and Jackie Skinner, Katie, Michael, Lisa, Ryan Elliott and Laura Skinner.
She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Skinner, in 1991.
The family will receive friends and relatives in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
Burial in Cedarville Cemetery will take place next spring.
The family has requested donations be made to the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Fund, 960 State Route 51, Ilion. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Laraine M. Loomis
CHERRY VALLEY — Laraine Loomis, 51, passed away Dec. 24, 2000, at the home of her stepdaughter in Odessa, Mo.
She was born May 1, 1949, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Bridger) Morton.
She was married to Albert A. Loomis on May 29, 1982, in Cherry Valley; he predeceased her on Feb. 19, 2000.
Mrs. Loomis attended Richfield Springs School. She loved auto racing, baseball and the time she spent with her family, especially the grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her sisters, Joan Weiner, whom she resided with in Cherry Valley, and Norma Duncan of Cooperstown; brother, David Morton of South Carolina; stepdaughters, Sue O'Hare and her husband, Wesley, of Odessa, Mo., and Mary Clinton and her husband, Dale, of Cooperstown; brother-in-law, Harold Ingersoll and his wife, Margaret, of West Winfield; eight stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her mother, Gladys Welch, a sister and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, conducted by Lyman Johnson.
Burial will be in Schuyler Lake Cemetery at a later date.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, Dec. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Contributions in Mrs. Loomis' memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Christine Hazelton
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Christine E. Hazelton, 78, of Lake Street, passed away on Wednesday morning Dec. 27, 2000, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1922, in Hubel Hollow in the town of Middlefield, daughter of the late August and Amelia Dezelak Klepey.
A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of Cooperstown High School.
In 1944 she came to Richfield Springs from Cooperstown, where she married Albert Hazelton on Sept. 13 of that year. Mr. Hazelton preceded her in death.
For 17 years she was a sewing machine operator for the Canajoharie Dress Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Richfield Springs American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving her are three stepsons, Howard Hazelton and Robert Hazelton, both of Richfield Springs, and Charles Hazelton of Hawaii; two stepdaughters, Rosalie Hazelton of Richfield Springs and Helen Stevens of Kansas; a daughter, Peg Kelley of Richfield Springs; one brother, John Klepey of Florida; five sisters, Rose Gage of Bath, Millie Klepey of Fern Park, Fla., Stephanie (Pat) Klepey of Columbus, Ga., Ann Hise of San Diego, Calif., and Caroline Studen of Fort Lee, N.J.; five grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service and committal will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Marguerite Jones
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Marguerite L. Jones, 86, of Hunter's Trail, Rock Hill, S.C., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center Hospital.
She was born in Montpelier, Vt., the daughter of the late Charles R. Lyons and Constance M. Lyons.
She was the wife of the late Harry C. Jones, whom she married at The Little Church Around the Corner in New York City on Oct. 3, 1933.
Mrs. Jones resided in Milford from 1946 to 1979, retiring as an inspector for Bendix Aviation in Sidney.
While in Milford, she participated in the American Legion Auxiliary and was a local artist and a member of The Brush and Palette Club of Cooperstown.
She moved to Florida in 1979, residing first in Dunedin and then in Palmetto, where she was active with local artists groups. She also held art classes for seniors.
In 1979 she moved to Rock Hill, where she became active in the Newcomers Bridge Club and participated in arts and craft shows in the area.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Jones and his wife, Lillas, of Auburn, Roger Jones and his wife, Alice, of Clifton Park and Robert Jones and his wife, Phyllis, of Rock Hill, S.C.; her brother, Charles W. Lyons, and his wife, Dorothy, of Palmetto, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her sister, Amy MacKenzie.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Tillipaugh Funeral Home in Milford at the discretion of the family.

Elmer Bookhout
ROXBURY — Elmer Bookhout, 83, passed away Dec. 26, 2000, at his home.
He was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Bloomville, son of Charles and Pearl (Travis) Bookhout.
He married Marian Brandow (deceased March 4, 1988) on Oct. 24, 1943.
He owned and operated a dairy farm in Hobart Township, Hobart.
He returned to Roxbury in 1983, where he worked as a carpenter.
Elmer is survived by daughter, Sharon Bookhout of Glenside, Pa.; son, Timothy Bookhout of Roxbury; daughter, Patricia Pohl of Lake Forest, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
