Helene M. Putnam
ONEONTA — Miss Helene M. Putnam, 93, of Oneonta, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16, 2000, at the A.0. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born April 7, 1907, in Oneonta, the daughter of William M. Putnam and Grace M. (Miller) Putnam.
Helene lived most of her life in Oneonta. She was a 1932 graduate of Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing, Syracuse, N.Y. For several years, she worked as a private duty nurse and later for 30 years as a registered nurse for A.0. Fox Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Oneonta, the Oneonta Business Women's Club and the Oneonta Country Club.
Helene is survived by her sister, Wanda P. Harris, of Oneonta; and two nephews, Robert B. Harris and Richard E. Harris and his wife, Diane Harris, all of Rochester, N.Y. She was predeceased by a brother, John B. Putnam, and his wife, Irene Putnam.
A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at St. James Episcopal Church, Main Street, Oneonta. Mother Carola von Wrangel, priest at St. James Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Helene will be cremated and her remains entombed in the St. James Episcopal Church Columbarium. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to A.0. Fox Nursing Home, 1 Norton Ave., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, in memory of Helene M. Putnam.

Livio Faoro
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Livio (Lee) Faoro, 82, passed away at home in Zephyrhills, Fla., on Nov. 6, 2000.
He was a native of Sloansville, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Doris (Scott) Faoro; a sister, Rina Jones; a brother, Gino Faoro; a sister-in-law, Hilda Faoro; and several nieces and nephews.
Marion Crampton
COOPERSTOWN — Marion Elizabeth Mills Crampton, 96, of Cooperstown and formerly of Westfield, N.J., died Saturday morning, Nov. 18, 2000, at The Meadows.
Marion was born in Oak Park, Ill., on Nov. 2, 1904, a daughter of Cecil Robert and Catherine (Scott) Mills.
She married Charles Ward Crampton Jr. on Nov. 29, 1941, in Westfield, N.J. Mr. Crampton died on Oct. 27, 1958.
Following graduation from Westfield High School, Marion attended Elmira College and then studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the New York School of Music and Art.
She operated the Marion Mills Studio of Dramatic Arts, where she trained aspiring actors and actresses.
Marion coached many plays for various Westfield organizations and was a member of the Westfield Community Players.
After she was appointed chairman of the New Jersey Public Welfare in 1934, she was able to fulfill her lifelong desire to help people in need by initiating such projects as talking books for the blind, providing milk for preschool children, collecting toys and clothing for Christmas and conducting story hours at local public libraries.
She was also co-chair of the Junior Women's Clubs of the state of New Jersey and state chair of the New Jersey Garden Clubs for several years. She won several gardening awards during this period.
Marion moved to Cooperstown in 1972, where she became active in the Cooperstown Woman's Club, the Lake and Valley Garden Club and the Glimmerglass Opera.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown and a former member of the Presbyterian Church of Westfield.
Marion was instrumental in starting and conducting story time at the Cooperstown Village Library.
An avid bridge player and opera attendee, she also spent countless hours writing and sharing her poetry.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Mills and Linda Stiles Crampton of Hartwick Seminary and William Scott and Debra Crawford Crampton of Cooperstown; seven grandchildren, Robert Stiles Crampton and Michael Ward Crampton, both of Seattle, Wash., Nancy Lynn Crampton of New York City, William Scott Crampton Jr. of South Boston, Mass., Mary Beth Crampton of Boulder, Colo., Lindsay Crampton Jones of Rochester and Matthew Reid Crampton of Webster.
Marion was predeceased by her brother, Robert.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Lin R. Quinlan, co-pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, officiating. Burial will take place on Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, Nov. 21, 2000, from 7 to 9, when Marion's family will be in attendance.
Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Friends of the Village Library for the Children's Collection, 22 Main St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Michael J. Judge
MARGARETVILLE — Michael J. Judge, 85, of Margaretville died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 29, 1915, in Troy, the son of Frank Judge and Jane E. Wall.
He married Jean Gladstone on Jan. 3, 1942, in Arkville.
Mike worked and lived in Guilderland for several years and moved to Margaretville after his retirement.
He was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in 1932. He was a member of the New York State Police. As a trooper he was recruited and trained for the then well-known Trail Riding Team that was disbanded in later years.
He attended Northwestern University (Traffic Institute). He later joined the New York State Thruway Authority, holding the position of director of concessions until his retirement in 1977.
He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Parish, serving his church in many capacities; a trustee, Eucharistic minister, lector, president of Parish Council and usher. He served on the Margaretville Memorial Hospital board for 15 years. He also worked as a volunteer for 10 years in the hospital snack bar. He was a member of the Margaretville Rotary Club, Elks Club at Port Charlotte, Fla., and a former member of the Elks Club in Kingston.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Judge of Margaretville; one daughter, Ellen J. Swanson and son-in-law, Dr. Norman R. Swanson of Slingerlands; one sister, Sister Mary Richard of St. Colemans Convent of Watervliet; and one nephew, Frank Judge of Rochester;
He was predeceased by two brothers, John F. Judge and Richard A. Judge.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell officiating.
Burial will be in the Andes Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Helen G. Waldron
UNADILLA — Helen Grace Waldron, 82, of Unadilla, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Reading Hospital, Reading, Pa.
She was born Oct. 25, 1918, to the late Eugene and Jennie Miller Cressey in Altoona.
Mrs. Waldron married John D. Waldron on Oct. 1, 1941, in New York City. He predeceased her on March 28, 1993.
She was active in the Salvation Army in the United States and Canada for the past 61 years.
Mrs. Waldron is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Eva Jean Toohig, Olive Branch, Miss., Edith H. and R. Eugene Pigford, Chestnut Ridge and Mary A. and Craig W. Whiteley, Wernersville, Pa.; sister, Hazel Thompson, Utica; five grandchildren, Daniel, Jennifer, Susan, John and Geoffrey; five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jonathan, Rachel, Joshua and Sarah; brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Helen Waldron; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Four sisters, Winnie, Minnie, Goldie and Agnes, also predeceased Mrs. Waldron.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at the Salvation Army Corps, 25 River St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, at 11 a.m. Friends may call today, Nov. 20. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. today at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, and on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Salvation Army Corps. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Unadilla, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Amos C. King
NORTH BLENHEIM — Amos C. King, 83, of Bears Ladder Road, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, after a short illness.
Mr. King was born in Otego on May 10, 1917, a son of Orra and Blanche Fisk King.
Mr. King and his wife took over the operation of the Chapman House in North Blenheim from his parents, who had owned it since 1929. Before that, he had been in the lumber business.
He was a member of the Blenheim United Methodist Church and the Blenheim Hose Co.
Surviving Mr. King are his wife, Mildred Case King, whom he married on July 4, 1940; daughter, Wanda King of North Blenheim; son, Wayne King of Middleburgh; and two grandsons.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 63 River St., Middleburgh, with the Rev. Neil Irwin, pastor of the Blenheim United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, North Blenheim.
A calling hour will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of the funeral service on Wednesday.

Biagio Pirozzi
NEW LISBON — Biagio (Ben) Pirozzi, 78, of New Lisbon died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Sidney.
He was born Feb. 7, 1922, in Brooklyn, the son of Alfredo and Joanne (D'Angelo) Pirozzi.
On Dec. 22, 1946, he married Nancy Coniglione.
Biagio served in the United States Army during World War II.
He retired from the Long Island Railroad, where he had been employed as a train announcer.
Biagio and his wife enjoyed many travel excursions. He had a strong love for his family and savored outside work.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 53 years; his children, Carol and Joanne; his grandchildren, Lorraine and Angela; and his great-grandchildren, Marybridget and Gavin.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris, with Father Burns officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
John Thorp
BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine — The Rev. John Van De Water Thorp, died on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in the Gregory Wing of St. Andrew's Village.
Mr. Thorp was a former resident of Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, Pa., and recently of St. Andrew's Village, Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
He served as an Episcopalian priest at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Wakefield, Mass., for 30 years.
He was a native of New York City, a graduate of Trinity School in New York City, Hamilton College and the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the New Guinea and Luzon campaigns.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Cloughen Thorp of Boothbay Harbor, Maine; three children, John V. Thorp Jr., Roberta T. Miller and Christine T. Joule; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The Rev. Margaret Russell, vicar of the church, will read the Burial Office at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, Route 27, Boothbay, Maine, on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date in the family lot in Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville.

Doris I. Williams
NEW BERLIN — Doris I. Williams, 79, of New Berlin, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Utica.
She was born March 21, 1921, in Columbus, the daughter of Clifford and Dorothy (Cronk) Miller.
She married William O. Williams on April 3, 1938. He died Dec. 30, 1999.
She spent her childhood in the Crystal Lake area.
She attended Morris Central School.
She is survived by her children, Roger and Kay Williams of New Berlin, Richard and Joanne Williams of Edmeston, Barb and Clyde Lilley of New Berlin, Sharon and Donald Hoffman of Black River and Debi and Randy Beadle of East Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald and Lena Miller of Utica.
She was predeceased by one son, James, in 1973; one daughter, Carol, in 1978; one sister, Marilyn Carpenter; and one brother, James Miller.
She worked at Scintilla, the New Berlin Central Elementary School and the Chase Nursing Home.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin.
She was a member of the New Berlin Fire Department and Auxiliary. She was also an EMT on the New Berlin Emergency Squad.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, officiating.
Interment will be in the St. Andrew's Cemetery, New Berlin.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin.
Edith R. Empey
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Edith R. Empey, 93, of Richfield Springs, died on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1907, in New York City, daughter of Francis Arnold Stahli of Berne, Switzerland, and Margaret O'Brien of Dublin, Ireland.
Her love of knowledge, books and lively discussions enriched her work in public and school libraries, her Christian faith and her many traveling adventures in the United States and abroad.
She was always there when she was needed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Allen Empey, in 1965; brothers, Arnold Francis and Charles Geddes Stahli; a sister, Janet Merrigan; and a son, Charles Clayton McCullough.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Sherrie McCullough of Largo, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Allen and David Elmore of Davenport; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Jacque Empey; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brian Stetson; and son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Monica Empey, all of Richfield Springs. Edith is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
There will be no formal calling hours.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at 1 p.m.
Interment in Crown Hill Memorial Park, New Hartford, will be next spring.
