Harrison J. Levine
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Harrison J. Levine, 56, of 1442 High Bridge Ave., Daytona Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach, Fla.
Mr. Levine was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on Jan. 25, 1944. He moved to Oneonta, N.Y., in 1948.
He attended Bugbee School and the Oneonta school system and graduated from Oneonta High School in 1962. He attended Buffalo University and Hartwick College and received a degree from the State University College of Technology at Delhi.
He was employed at Oneonta Sales Co. and moved to Roanoke, Va., in 1979. He moved to Daytona Beach in 1991 and worked for 3D/International, Orlando, Fla.
He was a past member of Temple Beth El, Oneonta, Oneonta Lodge of Elks #1312 and the Oneonta Country Club.
He was an ardent golfer, loved all sports and his favorite NASCAR race was the Daytona 500.
He and his family resided in Otego, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Cheryle; a son, Joseph Levine, and his wife, Paula, of Wytheville, Va.; two daughters, Erin Farris and her husband, Mark, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Sara Massie and her husband, Steve, of Moorsville, N.C.; his parents, Sidney and Muriel Levine of Oneonta; two brothers, Gary Levine and Mary Anne Sinvile of Boston, Mass., and Edward Levine and his wife, Julie, of Boise, Idaho; his sister, Cheri Rubin, and her husband, Larry, of Schenectady, N.Y.; his mother-in-law, Cecile Hawkins and her husband, Bob, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Cade, Conner and Colin Farris, Jacob Massie and Gage and Elise Levine; two special cousins, Skip and Tom Smith; and several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
Graveside and committal services were held Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Mount Sinai Cemetery, with graveside and committal services conducted by Rabbi David Kane of Temple B'Nai Torah, Ormond Beach, Fla.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Temple Beth El Construction Fund, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

Charles E. Bronner
COOPERSTOWN — Charles E. Bronner of Ricetown Road, Cooperstown, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 14, 2000, at his home with his family at his side.
Charles was born in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of Leanard and Pauline (Schiff) Bronner.
After graduating from high school, Charles attended Farmingdale Agricultural College as well as Columbia University, where he studied to be a landscape designer.
He was a veteran of the Army from World War II.
He married Eleanor Lyle in Middlefield on July 4, 1968.
Charles was a member of the Leatherstocking Conjurors (an organization of magicians), a member of the Green Thumb and very active in the Cooperstown Farmers' Market.
His interests included magic, Christmas trees and wreaths, vegetable gardening, floral design, harness horse racing, training and breeding and he built his home in Cooperstown.
Charles' family expressed the following thought; "Charles joined our family when the children were young and expanded our lives to see all of life's possibilities. He was far beyond a father and an out-of-the-ordinary person. We will miss him dearly. A heartfelt thanks to the Catskill Area Hospice and everyone involved."
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor; a son, David; three daughters, Melanie, Diane and Lori; two grandsons, Jeremy and Jasen; a sister, Molly Shack; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Walla.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with Erma Roth, reader of the Christian Scientist Church of Oneonta, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
Ira R. Jones
GRAND GORGE — Ira R. Jones, 79, of Grand Gorge, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
He was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Gilboa, the son of Emmett Jones and Hattie Powell.
He married Betty June Tompkins on July 31, 1954, in Oneonta.
Ira was a truck driver for 44 years, working for Ed Brownell, McBride Trucking, Charles Moore and Shopwell Inc. He retired in 1986.
He attended Grand Gorge Central School. He was an exempt member of the Grand Gorge Fire Department, Teamsters Union #445 and #277.
He also attended the United Methodist Church in Grand Gorge.
Ira is survived by his wife, Betty June Jones, of Grand Gorge; one son, Jeffrey R. Jones, of Grand Gorge; one daughter and son-in-law, Janine and James B. Lane, of Grand Gorge; one sister, Bertha Coager, of Grand Gorge; two brothers, Norman Mackey of Cairo and Richard Mackey; two grandchildren, Cody and Amanda Lane; one nephew, Edward Coager, of Grand Gorge; and one niece, Nancy Coager, of Stamford.
He is predeceased by one brother, Vernon Jones, who died in 1998.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in Grand Gorge, with the Rev. Robert Nash officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Grand Gorge.
Calling hours will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, between 7 and 9 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Fund of the United Methodist Church in Grand Gorge or Grand Gorge Fire Department Ambulance Fund.

Thelma I. Thurston
COBLESKILL — Mrs. Thelma I. Thurston, 87, of East Main Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at her residence after a long illness.
Mrs. Thurston was born Aug. 26, 1913, in Walton, the daughter of Lorin and Mary (Southworth) Wakeman.
Mrs. Thurston was a graduate of the Walton High School and moved to Cobleskill in her adult life, where she has resided for 56 years.
She married Stuart O. Thurston on Feb. 16, 1934, in Gilbertsville.
Survivors include her husband, Stuart O. Thurston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and William Marantis of Franklin, Tenn., and Rebecca and William Leach of Dryden; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the Pilgrim Holiness Church, Route 145, Middleburgh, with the Rev. Richard Owens officiating.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to a Memorial Fund established in her honor at the Middleburgh Pilgrim Holiness Church.
Kevin McDaniel
UTICA — Kevin Allen Jarall McDaniel, 9-day-old son of Sherrie Carey and Terrence McDaniel, passed away at Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Gerald Brockway; his maternal grandmother, Patsy Merwin Brockway; an uncle, Paul Brockway; and a cousin, Dominique Brockway.
He is survived by his parents, Sherrie Carey and Terrence McDaniel; a brother, Terrence McDaniel Jr.; sisters, Kendra Carey and Nija McDaniel; maternal stepgrandmother, Debbie Brockway of North Carolina; paternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Allen McDaniel of Mount Vernon; grandmother, Barbara Stanton of Oneonta; aunts, Tina Brockway, Sarah Hubbard, Nancy Borggreen, Debbie Borggreen and Farah McDaniel; uncles, Kevin McDaniel, Eric McDaniel, Danny Borggreen, Gerald Brockway Jr. and Brian Scott Sr.; and many cousins, including Brian Scott Jr., Keyanna Scott, Raymell Hubbard and Justin Borggreen.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Davenport Cemetery.

Anna Helbig
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Anna Helbig, 95, formerly of Schenevus, died late Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2000, at The Meadows.
She was born on March 14, 1905, in Bremen, Germany, a daughter of Hermann and Margaret (Schroder) Warnken.
Anna was raised and educated in Germany and at the age of 17, she came to the United States to visit her aunt. During her trip to America, she met Fritz E. Helbig on the boat and married him on Dec. 27, 1925, in Freeport, Long Island.
In 1950, the Helbigs moved to Stamford, Conn., where she became a longtime, devoted member of the Long Ridge Book and Garden Club.
The Helbigs moved to Schenevus in 1980, and in April 1994, Anna became a resident of The Meadows.
She was of the Lutheran faith and became proficient in the English language as a result of reading many books, always with her English-German dictionary at her side.
Anna was also an avid gardener, who learned to shape and care for bonsai trees, a hobby she shared with her daughter, Trudi. As an avid crafter, she created beautiful items in clay as well as with her sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Anna will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Trudi Shanahan of Monroe, Conn.; one sister, Mrs. Herta Tietjen of Bremen, Germany; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Germany.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fritz E. Helbig, who died on March 31, 1987; her daughter, Mrs. Greta E. Epp, who died on July 19, 1998; and one granddaughter, Miss Karen G. Epp, who died on Nov. 29, 1974.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Westville Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul R. Messner, pastor of the Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

Rosemary L. Neacy
ROCKVILLE CENTRE — Rosemary L. Neacy, (nee Griffin) of Ocala, Fla., and a native of Rockville Centre, passed away on Nov. 14, 2000.
She was a retired assistant vice president of EAB Bank.
Mrs. Neacy had a home in Westford for 18 years.
She was the beloved wife of Charles P.; devoted mother of Charles P. Jr. (Michelle), Joseph W., Sean P., Kevin M., Megan M. (Robert) Riordan and the late Janet M. She also is survived by six grandchildren. She was the loving sister of Barbara Kiesling and Joanne Schultz.
Reposing will be at Macken Mortuary Inc., 52 Clinton Ave., Rockville Centre on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be at St. Agnes Cathedral on Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at L.I. National Cemetery, Pinelawn.
Gregory L. Decker
ONEONTA — Gregory L. Decker, 46, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, after a lengthy illness at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
He was born Nov. 16, 1953, in Cooperstown, the son of Sherman and Joan (Asping) Decker.
He married Cynthia Dorazio on Aug. 23, 1981, in Oneonta.
Mr. Decker was employed at Country Club Chevrolet for 26 years having retired in 1999, as service manager.
He was a lifelong area resident having graduated from Oneonta High School and the State University College of Technology at Delhi in 1974, with a major in auto mechanics.
He had a great love of music, having played in many local bands and participated at numerous musical functions throughout the Oneonta area for his entire life.
Mr. Decker is survived by his wife and one son, Andrew, at home; his mother, Joan Decker of Oneonta; his father-in-law, Angelo Dorazio; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Kady-Rose, who died Aug. 30, 1998, and his father, Sherman Decker Jr., who died Oct. 29, 1987.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home for one hour before service time. Family and friends are invited to a reception and musical tribute of Greg's life to be held at Shineman Chapel, Hartwick College, at noon on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Harold L. Morrison
UNADILLA — Harold L. Morrison, born April 12, 1919, in Stamford, passed into spirit on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney, at the age of 81 after a valiant struggle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
His parents, Bortle and Edith (Roe) Morrison, and two brothers, Fred and Bortle, predeceased him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Rivanera) Morrison; two daughters, Barbara Armour of Severn, Md., and Joyce of Northampton, Mass.; a son, Thomas and Mary Morrison of Sidney; one grandson, Aaron Sevigny of West Norriton, Pa., one niece; two nephews; numerous cousins; and best friends, Ernest and Marjorie Arnold of Masonville.
Harold was a member of the American Legion Post 0578 and served in combat duty in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the Navy Seabees. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as MM first class.
He had previously worked at Scintilla Magneto Co., then owned his plumbing and heating company in Hobart before returning to Unadilla to continue working in this field.
His hobby was woodworking, producing many fine items, but boating was dearest to his heart.
He shared his hobbies with his beloved family and was always available to help out neighbors and friends in need.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at 11 a.m. from Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with the Rev. Gordon Polenz, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Unadilla.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Oscar C. Lugo
HALCOTTSVILLE — Oscar Charles Lugo, 72, of Halcottsville, died at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in the Dominican Republic on Jan. 27, 1928, to Aida (Gonzalez) and Christian Lugo.
His father moved him to Manhattan in 1933, after the untimely death of his mother and twin brothers.
On Jan. 1, 1950, he met the love of his life, Ileana Ortega. Wit and charm won her heart and they married April 5, 1953. They had two sons, Richard and James.
He was in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict.
His love, support and humor will always live with them. The joys of his life were his grandchildren, Nicholas, Jillian, Krista Eve, Amanda and Christian. Watching them romp through "Pa and Abu's" brought him hours of happiness.

He left his mark around the world, but none bigger than the one in the hearts of his family.
His family here and in the Dominican Republic, one brother, Christian Lugo, and one sister, Martha Lugo Harris, will miss him dearly, until they laugh again in heaven.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell officiating.
Burial will be private.
