Marie Sedutto
ONEONTA — Marie Riche Catella Sedutto died on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in her 91st year.
Mrs. Sedutto was born on March 3, 1909, in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island, a daughter of the late Angelo and Anna Riche (Ricci).
She married Louis J. Catella in St. Michael's Church, Staten Island, on April 23, 1933. Mr. Catella died on Aug. 19, 1972.
On Dec. 20, 1974, she married Michael Sedutto in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Staten Island. Mr. Sedutto died on May 14, 1984.
Mrs. Sedutto was a businesswoman for many years in Wall Street and later for New York City government.
She had beautifully talented hands and enjoyed needlework, knitting, crocheting and sewing as well as gardening.
In her later years, she lived with her daughter, Diane, and son-in-law, Dr. James, Iandiorio in Oneonta and Arnold Lake.
She is the loving mother of Ronald J. Catella of Littleton, Mass., and Diane Catella Iandiorio of Oneonta.
She is the beloved grandmother of Lisa Anne Catella, Nanine Catella DiGiovanni, Ricci James Catella, David Louis Iandiorio, Gianina Iandiorio Gohde, Michelle James Iandiorio and Peter Anthony Iandiorio. She is also survived by her sister, Carmel Riche of Cooperstown; seven great-grandchildren; and many sisters and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel and Filomeno Riche; and five nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Mary's Church, Our Lady of the Lake, Cooperstown, on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at 10 a.m. Co-celebrants will be the Rev. John P. Rosson, pastor, and the Rev. Raymond Ethier, pastor at Philmont.
Interment will be on Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in the Riche Family Plot at Ocean View Cemetery, Amboy Road, Staten Island, at 1 p.m.
Memorials may be given in memory of Marie Riche Sedutto to St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Church, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.
Veronica J. Batik
STAMFORD — Veronica J. "Ronnie" Batik, 63, of Back Hobart Road, died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Ireland, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (O'Connor) O'Hara.
She married Jerry Batik on Oct. 7, 1961, at The House of Hope United Presbyterian Church in Bellrose.
Ronnie moved to Stamford in 1987 from Franklin Square.
She was a member of the Stamford United Methodist Church, the Stamford Kiwanis Club and the American Legion Auxiliary in Stamford.
She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren.
Ronnie is survived by her husband, Jerry Batik of Stamford; her mother, Sarah O'Hara of Ireland; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Chichester of Stamford; three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Shirley Batik of Coxsackie; Daniel and Christine Batik of Massapequa and Steven Batik of Windham, Maine; six grandchildren, Sarah, Patrick, Katie, Megan, Delaney and Zachary; two sisters, Rita O'Hara and Nuala McGovern; two brothers, Michael O'Hara and Hugh O'Hara; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Stamford United Methodist Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Elliott Oakes, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Stamford Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, on Friday after 3 p.m. or between 7 and 9 p.m., at which time the family will be in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in Ronnie's memory to the Pediatric Trauma Center of Albany Medical Center, 43 Scotland Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12208.

Helen A. Mabey
DAVENPORT — Helen A. Mabey, 99, of Old State Road, Davenport, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
She was born July 12, 1901, in Davenport, the daughter of Fred and Olive Jean (Crandall) Hayes.
She married Fred C. Mabey on March 10, 1928, in Harpersfield Center. Fred predeceased her Feb. 4, 1961.
Helen had resided in Davenport for several years before moving to Robinson Terrace in 1978. She formerly lived in Jefferson, where she and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm for 23 years.
She was a member of the Davenport United Methodist Church.
Helen is survived by nieces and nephews, Sheila Conlon of Queensbury, Victoria Agesta of Queensbury, Edward Berry of Walton, Carolyn Collins of Hobart, Bill Berry of Jefferson, Evelyn Meyer of Charlotteville, Paul Titus of Warnerville, Bessie Presky of Albany, Kenneth Titus of North Carolina and Rita Troost of Virginia; and also a sister-in-law, Alice Titus of Stamford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Olu Harding, pastor of the Davenport United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jefferson.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening between 7 and 9 p.m. and on Saturday afternoon between 1 and 2 p.m., at which time the family will be in attendance.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.
Rene O. Berube
MOUNT UPTON — Rene O. Berube, 68, formerly of South New Berlin and most recently of Mount Upton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at his home.
Rene was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine. At the early age of 17, he joined the United States Army and earned the Purple Heart while serving his country from 1949 to 1953. During his time in the military, Rene visited the Oneonta area and enjoyed it so much that he decided to move there following his discharge.
Rene was employed during his early years by the Amphenol Corp. of Sidney but was forced to retire at the age of 44 because of his health.
He and his wife lived in the Morris area for a time before moving to South New Berlin, where they made their home for 20 years, working together in the operation of an antiques shop in their home. For the 20 years they ran the shop, they were avid collectors who traveled all over to find their antiques.
Rene was also a member of Harold McIntyre Post #1289 of the American Legion in South New Berlin.
Born July 6, 1932, Rene was the son of Wilfred and Yvonne (Page) Berube.
On Nov. 4, 1963, in Pennsylvania, he married Marian (Leech) Hoag, who passed away Aug. 31, 1998.
Rene is survived by his children, Vicki Barrows and her husband, David Sr., of South New Berlin, Thomas Hoag and his wife, Sandy, of Guilford, Rodney Hoag and his wife, Sharlene, of Rockdale, Lisa Berube Malson of Sanford, N.C., Mark Henry Berube of Sanford, N.C., and Yvonne Berube Faircloth of Salemburg, N.C.; two brothers, Roland Berube of North Carolina and Lucien Berube of Utah; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services for Rene will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Butternuts Cemetery of Copes Corners, with the Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harold McIntyre American Legion Post #1289, with checks made payable to the post and mailed to Harold Funke, 3217 State Highway 8, South New Berlin, N.Y. 13843.

Marie Hickey
CHERRY VALLEY — Mrs. Marie Hickey, 83, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Kearney, N.J., the daughter of Henry and Rose (Coyne) Finkernagel.
On Aug. 11, 1951, she married Daniel E. Hickey in New York City; he survives.
Mrs. Hickey was a beautician and manicurist in Manhattan, New York City.
Survivors besides her husband, Daniel Hickey of Cherry Valley; include a son, Victor Hickey; two daughters, Maureen Park and Dorothy Jicha, both of Cherry Valley; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, with Mr. Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial will follow.
There will be no public calling hours.
Contributions in Mrs. Hickey's memory may be made to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad, Cherry Valley.

Ina M. Deming
ONEONTA — Ina M. Deming, 75, of Oneonta, died on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1925, in Oneonta, to Mr. And Mrs. Henry Nichols.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Frank; her son, Richard; and her sisters, Helen Sturm and Laura Mewhorter.
She is survived by a son, James Deming and his wife, Carol, of Oneonta; three grandchildren, Sherri Reuter, Michelle Deming and Michael Deming; two great-grandsons, Brian Deming and Anthony Reuter; two sisters, Betty Coons and her husband, Bob, of Maryland and Shirley VanSteenburg of Oneonta; two nephews, Vic VanSteenburg and Nathan VanSteenburg of Oneonta; one grandniece, Nicole VanSteenburg of Oneonta; two half-sisters; and one-half brother; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Deming was a lifetime resident of the area. She worked with her husband on their farm for many years and in addition was employed with Jamesway for more than 35 years in Oneonta.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be made to the Milford Fire Department in Mrs. Deming's memory.

Dennis H. Diamond
EDMESTON — Dennis H. Diamond, 62, of Edmeston, died Friday Nov. 3, 2000, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born Sept. 8, 1938, in Hammond, Ind., the son of Gerald and Pauline (Neiman) Diamond.
Dennis came to Edmeston in 1948, to reside at the Otsego School, founded by Florence Cheseborough. It was there that he developed his lifelong love of music, listening, singing and dancing to the player piano there.
For the last 20 years, before residing at Chase Nursing Home, Dennis lived at Pathfinder Village. He enjoyed folk music and regularly attended the annual Thanksgiving performances of Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Dennis had a wonderful love of life and sense of humor that he shared with everyone, especially his niece, Tania, and nephew, Bryce. Dennis was fortunate to have been surrounded his entire life by many loving and caring people who will greatly miss him.
He is survived by his parents; his siblings and their spouses, Barbara and Kevin McCormick and Michael and Diana Diamond; his niece and her husband, Tania and Dean Wolfson; and his nephew, Bryce Bassin; his special friends at Pathfinder Village and Chase Nursing Home; and extended family, Larry Bassin, Rose Scarpinato and family and the Cheseborough family.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
Burial will follow at Edmeston Union Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis' memory to the charity of one's choice.

Eleanor B. Scofield
OTEGO — Eleanor B. Scofield, 79, of Otego, died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at AO Fox Memorial Hospital.
She was born on July 28, 1921, in Walton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice Joy McCullagh.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Scofield Sr.; two sons, Bruce and Melvin; one granddaughter, Brenda; two sisters, InaBelle and Barbara; and four brothers, Larry, Leon, Joseph and Clint.
She is survived by her children, Mr. And Mrs. George Scofield Jr. of Walton, Mrs. Roger (Betty) Waters of Oneonta, Mr. And Mrs. Richard (Gerline) Scofield Sr. of Walton, Mr. and Mrs. Bert (Barbara) Mullineaux of Walton, Pete Scofield of Otego, Lindora Banks and her friend, Bert, of West Oneonta, Mr. and Mrs. Gary (Raelynn) Scofield of Otego and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin (Carol) DeSilva of Oneonta; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Francis (Donna) Drovilard of Arizona and Mrs. Marie Case of Cuddybackville, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Scofield was a lifetime resident of the area. She married George Scofield Sr. on May 3, 1937. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed and loved her children, grandchildren and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Fred Albrecht officiating.
Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Walton.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
