Katherine Hammon

MARYLAND — Katherine "Katie" Hammon, 58, of Maryland, passed away at home with her family at her side Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000.

She was born July 15, 1942, in Oneonta, the daughter of Walter and Olive (Rose) Schnack of Milford.

She married Harold H. Hammon Jr. on Aug. 31, 1979, at the United Methodist Church in Schenevus.

Katie enjoyed her years as a caregiver aid and was most proud of the time she spent driving tractor-trailers cross country.

She will be remembered most as a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She received the most pleasure spending time with her family and friends.

Katie was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Olive Schnack; her brother, Walter "Jake" Schnack Jr.; and her sister, Vivian Schnack Cope.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Hammon Jr. of Maryland; a daughter, Peggy  Jones Martindale of Oneonta; a daughter, Cheryl  Jones Besson and her husband, John, of Wellington, Fla.; a son, Robert C.  Jones Jr. and his wife, Trish; a daughter, Tammy Hammon-Card and her husband, Tim, both of Maryland.

She is also survived by a brother, Edward Schnack and his wife, Elsie of Fries, Va.; a sister-in-law, Irene Schnack Speers of Killeen,  Texas; and a special cousin, Milton Camp of Maryland. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Chaplain John S. Dawson, spiritual care coordinator at Catskill Area Hospice, officiating. Burial will follow at the Milford Cemetery, Milford.

The family will be present at the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish may call.

At Katie's request, the family strongly supports her decision that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Nancy A. Wright

ANDES — Nancy A. Wright, 52, of Andes, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Nancy was born Jan. 18, 1948, in Warren Center, Pa., the daughter of Norman and Elizabeth Dewing Darling.

She married Robert Wright on Aug. 26, 1966, in Warren Center.

A resident of Andes since 1975, Nancy graduated from the State University College of Technology at Delhi as an licensed practical nurse in 1982.

She had worked in Walton and Delhi hospitals as well as Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

Nancy loved baking, quilting and was an avid Andes High School sports fan.

She was a member of Andes United Presbyterian Church and was a former elder, Sunday school teacher, ladies auxiliary and choir member, and also a former member of Andes Emergency Squad.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert of Andes; son, Mark of Andes; two daughters, Laura Wright and Leslie Pascoe, both of Rochester; parents, Norman and Elizabeth Darling of Warren Center, Pa.; three brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes on Tuesday when the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Andes United Presbyterian Church, Andes, with the Rev. Daniel McCollister, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sleeper Hill Cemetery, Warren Center, Pa., at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Andes United Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in the name of Nancy A. Wright.

Theodore Halstead

DELHI — Theodore G. "Ted" Halstead, 58, a longtime Delhi resident died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, upon arrival at Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

The son of John and Gladys (Fox) Halstead, he was born April 5, 1942, in Rochester, where he graduated high school, later receiving his engineering degree from SUNY Delhi. He subsequently continued his education at St. John Fisher College, Rochester.

A civil engineer, Ted was involved in construction projects at Delaware Academy and SUNY Delhi, and at the time of his death was construction administrator for the Thomas Management Service, Ithaca.

Ted was truly a "Renaissance Man," being also licensed in several fields, including real estate, life insurance, investments and air plane piloting.

A Delhi resident for the past 30 years, he had also been living in Laurens since last December.

He was a member of the Sertoma International and greatly enjoyed the companionship of his many friends, as well as his pet dogs.

Surviving are his fiancee, Jean M. Ostrander of Laurens; a son and daughter-in-law, Theodore G. and Tracy Halstead Jr. of East Meredith; his mother, Gladys Holden of Hilton; two sisters, Mary Hall of Hilton and Jeanne Holden-Wiltsey of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call this evening at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, when the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. and where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Manerowski, pastor of St. Peter's R.C. Church, officiating, and burial following in Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridale.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Pearl Livingston

OTEGO — Mrs. Pearl Jeannette (Wilcox) Livingston, 81, of Otego, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Monday, Oct. 16, 2000.

Pearl was born June 18, 1919, in Walton, the daughter of Raymond and Blanche Elizabeth (Chamberlain) Wilcox.

She married Charles D. Livingston on June 10, 1945, in South New Berlin. He died on Feb. 10, 1983.

In her early years, she lived on a farm in Walton. On Nov. 14, 1927, her family moved to a farm in South New Berlin, where she graduated from South New Berlin High School in 1937, as class valedictorian.

Before her marriage she had lived and worked for several summer resorts, AAA and Woolworth's in Norwich. In 1945, while working for Scintilla in Sidney, Pearl met her future husband, Charles. After marriage, they moved to Otego in 1945. There she assisted her husband in the operation of his plumbing, heating and electrical business.

She was an ardent collector of elephant figurines and enjoyed painting, sewing, reading and pie baking. She spent many hours gardening in her garden.

A member and worker for the Republican committee, Pearl had also sold real estate in Otego and worked many years as Otego tax collector, census taker and dog counter. She was a member and former matron for the Eastern Stars and a member of the Otego Fire Department Auxiliary.

Pearl is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and JoAnn Livingston of Lake Ridge, Va., Royce and Susan Livingston of Otego and Randall and Nancy Livingston of Unadilla; seven grandchildren, Kelly Livingston of Laurens, Sarah and James Livingston of Otego, Randall C. Livingston of Unadilla, Jennifer Livingston of Sidney, Julie and Betty Livingston of Unadilla, Tammy and Scott Finch of Unadilla and Crystal Knapp of Otego.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, when the family will be present at the funeral home. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family requests no flowers and that contributions be made to the Otego Emergency Squad, River Street, Otego, N.Y. 13825, in memory of Pearl Livingston.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Dorothy B. Moretti

ONEONTA — Dorothy B. Moretti, 88, of Oneonta, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta after a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 8, 1912, in Coney Island, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Derringer) Boos.

She married Luca Moretti on April 18, 1948, in Belmore. Mr. Moretti died in 1985.

Mrs. Moretti was a clerk-buyer for Hearns Department Store in New York City until her retirement in 1977.

She has been a resident of Oneonta since 1997 and previously resided in New York City and Long Island.

Mrs. Moretti is survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Private funeral services will be held at Pinelawn Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island, at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Those who wish may make contributions to the Hampshire House Adult Home, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

John Henry Euler

ROXBURY — John Henry Euler, 82, of Roxbury, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Richmond Hills, the son of Henry Euler and Frieda Mahlstedt Euler.

He married Virginia Rollens on July 27, 1941, at St. Marks Episcopal Church, Islip.

He was in the Army during World War II. He was a flag salesman and retired after working for 49 years at the Annin & Co., Vernon, N.J.

He moved to Roxbury in 1985.

He was a member of the Ralph S. Ives Jr. American Legion Post #1785, Roxbury.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Euler of Roxbury; two daughters, Linda-Jean Euler of Hamburg, N.J., and Gail Ann Euler of Windham, Maine.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at 8 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, until service time at 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made in memory of John Henry Euler to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Delhi.

Arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

John C. Hitchcock

WALTON — John C. Hitchcock, 85, of Walton, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the Delaware Valley Hospital.

He was born on July 5, 1915, in Roxbury, the son of Marshall and Blanche (Rogers) Hitchcock.

He served in the Army Air Corps from 1939 to 1945.

He married Mildred Henderson on July 27, 1945, in Elkton, Md.

Mr. Hitchcock worked for the Del-Met Corp. as an electrician.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred, at home in Walton; three sons, John and Trisha Hitchcock of Houston,  Texas, David and Helen Hitchcock and Mark Hitchcock of Walton; two daughters, Linda Neal of Walton and Donna and Gary Silverstein of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.; two brothers, Marshall Hitchcock of Bradenton, Fla., and Harold Hitchcock of Stamford; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc., Funeral Chapel, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, where family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment in Walton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to Walton Emergency Squad, in care of Grace Cornell, 61 West St., Walton, N.Y. 13856, would be appreciated.

Dennis R. Moore

GUILFORD — Dennis R. Moore, 39, of 288 Bruffel Hill Rd., Guilford, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Jan. 29, 1961, in Norwich, the son of Robert and Jean (Brown) Moore.

On Aug. 24, 1996, in Guilford, he married L. Robin Crocco.

He is survived by his wife, Robin of Guilford; his parents, Robert and Jean Moore of Ward, S.C.; his daughter, Lindsay M. Moore; his paternal grandmother, Susan J. Moore of Ward, S.C.; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Barrett and Connie Moore of Gettysburg, Pa., David and Margo Moore of Norwich, Dean and Gloria Moore of Fort Myers, Fla.; his sister and brother-in-law, Robin and Timothy Haddad of Bainbridge; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Lyda Crocco of Gilbertsville; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jan and Clinton Kew of  Jackson Hole, Wyo., and James and Virginia Crocco of Gilbert, Ariz.

He also is survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Dennis owned and operated Dennis Moore Logging and also operated a sawmill.

He was an avid sportsman, enjoying boating, fishing and hunting.

He was a former member of the 4-H Club as a youth.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at 1 p.m. from the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Boardman, pastor of the Gilbertsville Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County or the Guilford Emergency Squad.

Emma B. Strebe

ANDES — Emma B. Strebe, 83, of Main Street, Andes, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Forrestal Skilled Nursing Center, Princeton, N.J.

The daughter of Julius and Martha Mary (Nimmich) Bohn, who were homesteaders, she was born Jan. 20, 1917, in Squaw Creek, Idaho.

The family came east when Emma was a child and settled in Ballston Spa, where she grew up and graduated high school.

She married Vincent E. Strebe on May 28, 1938, in Jersey City.

Emma received her former education at Monmouth County (N.J.) Community College, where several of her sculptures were on display.

Exceptionally gifted and artistically talented in mixed media, she had also fashioned and tailored her children's clothing.

Formerly of Ticonderoga, she came to Andes in 1980, where she was top producer for three years and excelled in real estate sales in her nephew's office.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, "Vince" Strebe; and her nine children, Nancy Oden of Jonesboro, Maine, Gail M. Patullo of Princeton, N.J., Joan Kobel of Aston, Fla., Martha S. Cooley of Andes, Priscilla Vollmann of Centerville, Mass., Karen Lawler of Richboro, Pa., Vincent E. Strebe Jr. of Pompton Lakes, N.J., Rebecca Rogers of Norwood,  Colo., and Sarah James, of Wilmington, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Gertrude Hague of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Norbert Bohn of Benicia,  Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, on Thursday, Oct. 19, when the family will be in attendance from 1 to 4 p.m., and where funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Fr. Joseph Manerowski, pastor of St. Peter's R.C. Church, Delhi. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Valley View Cemetery, Ticonderoga.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.
