Joseph J. Glionna

EAST WORCESTER — Joseph J. Glionna, 85, of East Worcester, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.

He was born Aug. 13, 1915, in East Worcester, the son of Antonio and Susanna (Amorella) Glionna.

He married Evelyn McArthur.

Joe was a lifelong area resident.

He was employed for many years as a supervisor at the Lawrence Serafini Construction Co. in Binghamton. He then retired from the Spangoliti Construction Co. in Binghamton were he was also a supervisor.

Joe was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Glionna, of East Worcester; three brothers, Frank Glionna of Schenectady, John Glionna of Florida and Willard Glionna of  Pennsylvania; two sisters, Stella Thompson of Rotterdam and Katherine Rush of Schenectady; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Glionna; and a sister, Dealba Bengen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

John O. Heller

ONEONTA — John O. Heller, 69, of Oneonta, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at his home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1930, in Oneonta, the son of Claude "Jim" and Mabel (McHale) Heller.

He worked as a truck driver for the West-Nesbitt Co. in Oneonta for many years until his retirement.

John was a well-known drummer and played in area bands for many years.

He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 443, Oneonta Lodge BPOE 1312, and the Sons Of The American Legion Squadron 259.

He is survived by three sons, Larry Heller of Cooperstown, John, and his wife, Gayle Heller, of Oneonta and Gary Heller of West Oneonta; seven grandchildren, Calvin Heller, Larry Heller and Darcy Heller, Corey Heller and Ashley Heller and John and Michael Heller. He is also survived by a sister, Charlene Brewer of Bainbridge.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Judy Thistle officiating.

There will be no calling hours, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Bissundeo Badal

SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Bissundeo Badal, 43, of South Kortright died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Sept. 22, 1956, in Trinidad, the son of Nanan and Dolly (Ramlakan) Badal.

Beloved husband and father he leaves behind his wife, Torescia Badal, they were married May 18, 1980; two sons, Narvin and Vydesh Badal; and daughter, Vanessa Badal, at home in South Kortright.

He served in Trinidad military for eight years and for many years taught physical education.

Bissundeo came to the United States in 1992, where he worked at the Allen Center for the past eight years.

He touched many lives and truly made a difference in the troubled youth that he worked with.

He recently became an American citizen.

Calling hours will take place at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside services will take place at his final resting place in Trinidad.

Contributions in his memory may be made to R.E.A.C.H. in Hobart, N.Y.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

William H. Jones

DELHI — William H. Jones, 65, of Delhi, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in Delhi.

He was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Delhi, the son of Herman and Edna (Clapper) Jones.

He married Shirley Barriger Jan. 5, 1999.

She survives, as do a daughter, Edna Mattice of Stamford; two sons, Bill  Jones Jr. of East Worcester and Tom Waters of Oneonta; stepchildren, Sandra Gould of Oneonta, Jack Altrath of North Carolina, Bob Altrath of Virginia, Amy Altrath of Chicago, Ill., Tina Ocasio of Puerto Rico, Rosa Cantos of New Jersey and Kerry Daza of New York; two sisters, Kathleen Odell of Delhi and Catherine Brault of Ilion; several grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr.  Jones was a lifelong Delhi resident and worked as a painter by trade.

Graveside services will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Hugh I. Sessions

ONEONTA — Hugh I. Sessions of Oneonta died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital of Oneonta.

He was born in Oneonta, the son of the late William and Minnie Hackett Sessions. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Esther Lingner.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverly Farro Sessions of Oneonta. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law and their wives, Bryson "Joe" Farro and his wife, Theresa, of Oneonta and Douglas Farro Sr. and his wife, Judy of Vestal; a niece, Deborah Farro-Lynde and her husband, Donald Jr., of Oneonta; nephews, Douglas Farro Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of  Johnson City and Dana Farro and his wife, Michelle, of Vestal; great-nieces, Amanda and Amy Farro of  Johnson City; and great-nephew, Michael Farro of Vestal.

Mr. Sessions was a lifetime resident of the area joining Beverly Farro in marriage on July 3, 1955, in the town of Oneonta.

He worked for the D&H Railroad while serving his apprenticeship as an electrician. He then worked for the Otsego Telephone Co. in Oneonta before working with the New York Telephone Co. for 42 years until his retirement in 1971.

Mr. Sessions was a proud master sergeant in the 418th Signal Corps 8th Fighter Command in the United States Army Air Corps who served his country in World War II from 1942-1945. During that time he served in England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Normandy and the Rhineland.

He was the recipient of commendations such as the Good Conduct Medal, the Conspicuous Service Cross and many Battle Stars. In addition, he received the Legion of Merit Medal for inventing a teletype repeater, which enabled our forces to use the existing land lines in England, and the continent of Europe.

Mr. Sessions was a current member of the American Legion Post 259, and participated in the Green Dragons Drum Corps, and Rifle Team of the American Legion. He was a former member of the VFW. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the AARP and was on the board of directors of the Sixth Ward Booster Club Playground.

His hobbies included woodworking, building grandfather clocks and furniture. He also enjoyed reading westerns and fishing.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., with the Rev. Ken Baldwin officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sixth Ward Booster Club Playground Committee, care of Beverly Sessions, 10 Lonergan Ave., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in Hugh's memory.

George F. Robinson

PHOENIX MILLS — George F. Robinson, 68, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, with his family present.

He was born June 12, 1932, in Cooperstown, the son of Torrey G. and Leonore (Goddard) Robinson.

He was a lifelong Cooperstown area resident who will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and love of Cooperstown history. He was often referred to as the "'unofficial" mayor of Phoenix Mills.

George was a member of the Cooperstown Central School Class of 1950.

He was an avid outdoorsman who particularly enjoyed hunting, stargazing, snowmobiling and motorcycling. He had a love of classic and antique cars and owned and raced his #66 stock car in Morris.

George will be remembered as the last home ice-delivery person in Cooperstown, a local auto mechanic, an early partner of the Cooperstown LP Gas Service and as a United States Postal Service Mail carrier in Cooperstown for more than 25 years.

He served in the United States Army National Guard and Reserve in the 1950s.

He was a volunteer firefighter for Cooperstown Fire Department Engine Co. No. 1 for more than 35 years.

He is survived by his fiancee, Carol Cox of Phoenix Mills; his former wife, Donna (Peters) Robinson; his mother, Leonore Robinson of Bowerstown; two brothers, John Robinson of Phoenix Mills and Bruce Robinson and his wife, Leah, of Schroon Lake; a daughter, Gloria, and her husband, Mark Waro, of South Hartwick; sons, Martin Robinson of Hyde Park, Robin Robinson and his wife, Deborah, of Westville and Torrey G. Robinson II and his wife, Rebecca, of Milford; grandchildren, Heather and Beth Ann Robinson, Cody and MacKenzie Waro and Morgan and Michael Robinson; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Torrey G. Robinson.

At George's request, there will be no public services.

In lieu of expressions of sympathy, contributions in George's memory may be made, in his name, to the Cooperstown Fire Department, Engine Co. No. 1.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Robert I. Reynolds

MIDDLEFIELD — Robert Ira Reynolds, 82, of Middlefield, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at the home of his daughter in Schenectady.

Mr. Reynolds was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Cooperstown, the son of Ira John and May (Utter) Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds attended schools in Cooperstown.

He had retired in 1982, after working many years for the Cooperstown Buick Cadillac dealership and Chase Farm Equipment. Following his retirement he spent several winters in Summerfield, Fla., with his son and enjoyed attending local antique tractor and engine shows.

He was a charter member of the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department, having served in several capacities, including assistant fire chief. He also served on the Otsego County Fire Advisory Board for many years.

He was scoutmaster of Middlefield Troop 81 and a member of the Middlefield Baptist Church.

He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Pauline Wood. A brother, Gordon Reynolds, also predeceased him.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Pete) and Kathy Reynolds of Summerfield, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris (Sis) and Bruce Hering of Rotterdam; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Eleanor Reynolds of Cooperstown; two sisters-in-law, Betty Wood of Fly Creek and Kay Wood of Middlefield; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Reynolds' will be held on Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at the Middlefield Baptist Church in Middlefield, with the Rev. Wilfred L. Lyon officiating.

Friends and family may call at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home on Chestnut Street in Cooperstown from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Middlefield Baptist Church, care of Trudy Schmid, 311 Rezen Road, Roseboom, N.Y. 13450 or The Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 1356, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford, with assistance from Richard De Luccia, Schenectady.

Ila Daisy Jackson

ONEONTA — Ila Daisy (Wright) Jackson, 103, housewife, mother and nursing assistant, died at the Fox Nursing Home on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000.

She was born in Enterprise, W.Va., on Oct. 7, 1896, the daughter of Marcus and Ruth (Allen) Wright.

She moved to the St. Petersburg, Fla., area where she met and married her husband, Milan Herbert Jackson, in 1914. They moved to Oneonta that same year and have resided there since that time.

She was predeceased by her husband; two sons, Milan Wright  Jackson and Elbert Jackson; two brothers, Virgil Wright and Robert Wright; and one sister, Ala Starkey.

She is survived by her sister, Blanche Harbert of Clarksburg, W.Va.; Mary Ethel  Jackson of Richmondville, wife of Milan W. Jackson; her grandson, Milan Watkins Jackson, married to Sheila M. (Hill)  Jackson of Townsend, Mass.; and granddaughter, Barbara E. (Jackson) Wimple, married to Mort Wimple of Howes Cave; four great-grandsons, Milan H.  Jackson of Schenectady, Simon H.  Jackson of Burke, Va., Aaron H.  Jackson of North Dartmouth, Mass., and Mark V. Spencer of Esperance; and grandson, E. Gregory Jackson, his wife, Patricia Wooster-Jackson, and their two children, Christopher T. and Catlin E.  Jackson of Denver,  Colo.

There will be memorial service at the St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Cobleskill, at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2000. Internment will be at the Riverside Cemetery immediately following the service.

Robert Mahalick Sr.

CHERRY VALLEY — Robert Charles Mahalick Sr., 58, an awesome husband, father, brother and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

Bob was born in Manhattan, on Nov. 28, 1941, son of John C. and Lyla (Smith) Mahalick.

He was raised on Long Island, where he met his wife, Dee. They have three loving and devoted sons, Robert Jr., 27, Michael, 23, and Scott, 21, all of Cherry Valley.

The Mahalick family has lived in Cherry Valley for 18 years, as Bob loved this town.

Bob was a fantastic furniture maker and folk artist, a heritage he has passed on to his sons.

Bob also leaves behind a loving sister, Marion Tweed of Massachusetts; and his brother, John Mahalick of California; and nieces, nephews, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law who loved him dearly.

His family and friends will always remember his great smile and wonderful personality.

Cremation was accomplished at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

Family and friends are asked to please join together at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Cherry Valley, on Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at 11 a.m. for a memorial service, with Mr. Lyman  Johnson officiating.

Contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the Mahalick family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

John Lee Frisbee

FRONT ROYAL, Va. — Col. John Lee Frisbee, retired, of Front Royal, Va., and who served under two secretaries of the United States Air Force during the  Johnson Administration and was editor of Air Force Magazine in  Washington until 1980, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Marshall Manor in Marshall, Va.

A resident of the  Washington metropolitan area for more than 30 years, he was born in Oneonta, N.Y., on Dec. 7, 1916, and graduated from Hartwick College in 1939, with a degree in economics.

He joined the Army Air Corps in January 1943. During World War II he served as a flight instructor, aide-de-camp, operations officer and command pilot in Europe. He was an aide in the Operations Division, air staff of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers, Europe.

After WWII he received a BFT at the American Institute for Foreign Trade and a M.A. in international relations from Georgetown University. He also held degrees from the Armed Forces Staff College and the Canadian National Defense College.

During his Air Force career he taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was the first head of the history department and acting head of political science at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. His last tour of duty was as chief of Research and Analysis Division, Office of the Secretary, U.S. Air Force, and as special assistant to the vice chief of staff. He retired from the Air Force after 28 years of service in 1969.

Among his 12 decorations were included the Legion of Merit, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Belgian Croix de Guerre.

After his retirement from the military he became editor of Air Force Magazine until 1980. From 1983 to 1999, he continued as a contributing editor with the magazine writing a monthly historical column on Air Force heroes of WWII, Korea and Vietnam titled Valor. He also edited Makers of The United States Air Force, published by the Office of Air Force History.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Philip L. Frisbee of Oneonta, N.Y.; and by his wife of 56 years, Lucy Putnam Post, a journalist and author of historical biographies.

He is survived by four sons, John Lee Frisbee III of Concord, N.H., Ralph Putnam Frisbee of Gaithersburg, Md., Stephen Vincent Frisbee of Palm Desert,  Calif., and Philip Langley Frisbee II of The Plains, Va.; and by seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, The Plains, Va., by the Rev. Caroline Parkinson. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. with full military honors. Friends are to gather at the Administration Building no later than 10:30 a.m.
