Joan Olsen
SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Joan Carraher Olsen, 66, of South Kortright, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Otego.
She was born March 29, 1934, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Frank and Anne (O'Brien) Carraher.
She married the late Frederick Olsen in 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. He died Jan. 24, 1993.
Mr. and Mrs. Olsen owned and operated Olsen's Meat Cutting in South Kortright.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan Schuman of Otego; four grandchildren, Kevin Miglianti and his fiancee, Debi Smith, Michael Miglianti, Amanda Schuman and Christopher Schuman.
Graveside services will take place on Saturday, July 1, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford, with the Rev. John Dawson officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.
Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
Nancy Samson
MARGARETVILLE — Nancy Samson, 59, of Margaretville, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.
She was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Endicott, the daughter of Wilbert Samson and Grace Guldenschack.
She was a resident of Mountainside Residential Care Center since March 1997.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 29, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Roxbury Cemetery, with the Rev. S. Hayden Walsh officiating. Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.
Funeral arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
Ruth Lorette
ONEONTA — Mrs. Ruth Lorette, 63, of Oneonta, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at her son's home in East Worcester.
She was born March 2, 1937, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Sarah (Butts) Hunt.
She married Richard Lorette on March 19, 1955, in Oneonta. Mr. Lorette died April 28, 1994.
Ruth was a seamstress for Sanyo in Oneonta before her retirement. She had also worked as a certified nursing assistant at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta; The Meadows in Middlefield; Oneonta Dress Factory; and RJ Dress Co., also of Oneonta.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as well as gardening, sewing, decorating and traveling.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Terri Lorette of Worcester, Jeffrey and Allison Lorette of Prattsville and Mark and Lisa Lorette of Maryland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathleen and David Hutton of Wintersville, Ohio, and Rebecca Lundgren-Lorette of Stamford; four brothers, Charles Hunt of Largo, Fla., George Hunt of Clairion, Pa., Donald Hunt of Oneonta and Steve Hunt of Unadilla; and a sister, Mrs. Fred (Sandra) Brooks of Unadilla.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Daniel Lorette; and three brothers, Carl, Deforest and Edward Hunt
Funeral prayers will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, when the family will be present.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Expressions of sympathy may be given to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, in memory of Ruth Lorette.

Patrick Hawxhurst
COOPERSTOWN — Patrick J. Hawxhurst, 48, of Cooperstown, died unexpectedly Monday evening, June 26, 2000, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born on June 17, 1952, in Harriman, a son of George W. and Virginia L. (Barr) Hawxhurst.
He married Barbara Sapienza Landers on Oct. 5, 1996, in Cooperstown.
Patrick and his family moved to Hartwick in 1967, and he graduated from Cooperstown Central School with the Class of 1970. He attended the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Morrisville, where he received his degree as a registered nurse. After living in Colorado for 10 years, Patrick returned to Cooperstown and had served as a nurse in the recovery room at Bassett Hospital for the past 12 years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown and the New York State Nursing Association.
He especially enjoyed golf, music, football, gardening and spending time with his family.
Patrick was well known for his sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Cooperstown; three sons, Alex Hawxhurst of Schuyler Lake and John Landers II and Jason Landers, both of Cooperstown; a daughter, Jackie Landers of Cooperstown; his parents, George and Virginia Hawxhurst of Green Valley, Ariz.; a brother, Michael Hawxhurst of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Denise Hawxhurst of Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Cheryl Hawxhurst of Michigan; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is also survived by three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Santa and Steve Morris of Cherry Valley, Gloria and Tony Jones of Albany and Lucy and Doug Robertson of Hartwick.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 p.m. until service time, when Patrick's family will be in attendance.

Herbert B. Pidgeon
ONEONTA — Herbert "Herb" B. Pidgeon, 74, of Oneonta, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born May 30, 1926, in Oneonta, the son of Gordon and Matilda (Alger) Pidgeon.
He married Darlene Gill on July 4, 1957, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, and he served in the U.S. Army.
Herb was a security guard at Hartwick College, Oneonta, and was also a lieutenant for the Oneonta Call Fire Department from 1964 until 1995.
Herb was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Oneonta. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Pidgeon of Oneonta; son, Brett Pidgeon of Oneonta; mother-in-law, Catherine Tarbox of Oneonta; three godsons and three goddaughters; a sister-in-law and her husband, Bessie and Leon Preston of Hartwick; a brother-in-law and his wife, Millard and Dorothy Hurlburt of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins
Herb was predeceased by his stepmother, Vena Pidgeon; two brothers, Donald and Harold Pidgeon; and two stepsisters, Shirley Hurlburt and Joyce Kearney.
The family will be in attendance Wednesday, June 28, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The Oneonta Fire Department will conduct a fireman's service at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco officiating. Funeral prayers will be held at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m.
Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Charles R. Gray
DELHI — Charles R. "Charley" Gray, 55, of Delhi, formerly of Andes, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
The son of Paul C. and Lillian B. (Reynolds) Gray, he was born Feb. 28, 1945, on the family farm in Skunk Hollow, Andes.
He received his education at Andes Central School and during his youth attended the Cabin Hill Presbyterian Church.
A dairy farmer until health forced retirement, Charley lived on the family farm most of his life, where he also enjoyed hunting and fishing when his health permitted. He moved to Delhi in 1996, where he lived with his brother.
Surviving are one brother, Gary L. Gray of Delhi; one sister, Rebecca Misner of Arkville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased in 1998 by his sister, Cynthia Harrington, late of Walton.
Friends are invited to call at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi on Thursday, where the family will be in attendance 7 to 9 p.m. and where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, by the Rev. Bert More, with burial following in the Andes Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Andes Emergency Squad.

Donald W. Tuttel
OKLAHOMA — Donald W. Tuttel, 68, of Oklahoma and formerly of Richland, Wash., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 26, 2000, in Memphis, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Nona Jean Tuttel of Washington; two sons and daughter-in-law, Don and Amy Tuttel of Masonville, N.Y., and David Wayne Tuttel of Augusta, Ga.; a daughter, Janne Tuttel Stewart of Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren, Jared, Jordan and Lauren Tuttel and Brooke Stewart; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the American Heart Association, if desired.

ONEONTA — Services for Margaret Torres, 90, of Oneonta, who passed away on Friday, June 23, 2000, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Mark Older officiating.
Carlyle H. Ives
DECATUR — Carlyle H. Ives, 81, of Decatur, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Maryland, the son of Chester and Louise (Fanning) Ives.
He married Laura Banker on Oct. 6, 1940, in Schenevus. She died May 13, 1988.
He was a lifelong area resident and a carpenter, working out of Union Local 370, Schenectady.
He was a past member of the Decatur United Methodist Church, a member of the East Worcester Fish and Game Club and a member of the NRA.
He enjoyed fishing, carving, wine making, gardening and cooking.
He was a people person that especially enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stephen and Barbara Ives of Worcester and Tracy Ives of East Worcester; three daughters and a son-in law, Leah and James Knapp of East Worcester, JoAnn Bellinger of Schenectady and Nancy Ives of Decatur; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Agnes Wayman, Adlaide Bailey and Louise Stillwell.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Susan Strang, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Worcester, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Evelyn N. Stauch
BEL AIR, Md. — Evelyn N. Stauch, 93, formerly of Meridale, N.Y., and Oneonta, N.Y., died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Fallston Hospital in Bel Air, Md.
She was born Oct. 3, 1906, in Jamaica, N.Y., the daughter of John Sullivan and Ellen Hussey.
On March 31, 1929, she married Victor D. Stauch. Her husband died on June 14, 1983. In 1952, he retired from the New York City Police Department and they purchased a farm in Meridale, where they lived for 35 years.
Evelyn was employed for 17 years as a secretary in the law office of Harold Hyzer in Franklin, N.Y.
She moved to Wilber Park Apartments in Oneonta in 1986. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Nancy Stauch of Virginia Beach, Va., and Thomas and Beryl Stauch of Abington, Md.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Cornelius Sullivan; six sisters, Kathleen Gollner, Lillian Meyers, Elizabeth Reuss, Ethel Wynne, Blanche Spillman and Marguerite Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was June 9, 2000, in Bel Air, Md., with burial following at Parkwood Cemetery in Parkville, Md.
