LeRoy W. Hasey
NORTH BLENHEIM — LeRoy "Lee" William Hasey, 51, of North Blenheim, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born in Portland, Maine, on July 13, 1948, the son of Robert A. and Helen (Holly) Y. (McCrea) Hasey.
He married Theresa Stiber on April 19, 1989, in Naples, Fla.
Lee graduated from high school in Hampden, Maine. He attended MCI in Pittsfield, Maine, and Norwich University, Norwich, Vt., graduating in 1971.
He started teaching at Jefferson Central School in the fall of 1971 and taught junior high social studies and junior-senior high school English. He was very involved in coaching junior high basketball, junior high baseball, junior-varsity basketball and varsity lacrosse. He also helped with the varsity girls basketball team,
Lee was instrumental in obtaining numerous scholarships and awards for students entering college. Many students over the years relied on his help and guidance when applying for college or entering the work force. Lee had set up a website used by more than a hundred people to keep in touch and re-establish contacts.
Lee was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with numerous friends.
He was also active helping Boy Scout Troop 50; served as a councilman for the town of Blenheim; and belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Working Lodge No. 554 of Jefferson and the Scottish Rights of Schenectady.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Hasey; and children, Tabitha (Hait) and Carl Mummenthey of Morris and Tammy Hait of Latham. He is also survived by his mother, Helen (Holly) McCrea; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Colleen and Billy Cioccari of Jefferson, Rose and Tom Connelly of Saratoga, Kathy and Larry Fowler of Gilboa, Pat and Tom Haskin of Gilboa; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Proper, of Maryland; brothers-in-law, Robert Stiber of Florida, John Stiber of Bloomville; cousins, Jon and Evelyn (Sharpe) Poucher of Connecticut, Gary Sharpe of Connecticut and Laura (Hasey) and Richard Small; an aunt, Dorothy Hasey, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Hasey; his cousin, Harley Hasey; his uncle, Leroy Hasey; and an aunt, Barbara Sharpe.
Lee will be deeply missed by his family, friends and students.
Memorial services for Mr. Hasey will take place on Monday, June 5, 2000, at Jefferson Central School, Jefferson, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. John Evans officiating. Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 4, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in his memory may be made to a scholarship fund at the Jefferson Central School, Jefferson, N.Y. 12093.

Hazel Marie Hyzer
FRANKLIN — Hazel Marie (Anderson) Hyzer, 96, of Franklin, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born March 31, 1904, in West Meredith, the daughter of Andrew Leslie and Lillian (Georgia) Anderson.
She married Harold E. Hyzer on Oct. 6, 1926. Mr. Hyzer died in 1975.
Mrs. Hyzer lived in Franklin most of her life. She was a 1923 graduate of the Delaware Literary Institute.
Before her marriage, she worked for a period of time for the Delaware County Dairymen's as a linotypist and the Ouleout Valley Telephone Co. as an operator.
She was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church for 86 years and the Franklin Historical Society.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Jarvis Hyzer and his wife, Charlotte, of Vero Beach, Fla., and Robert H. Hyzer and his friend, Mariel Tremain, of Oneonta; four grandchildren and their spouses, Rudy and Barbara Hyzer of Bernardsville, N.J., Casey and Fred Feiler of Oneonta, R. Michael and Kim Hyzer of Franklin and Anne and John Leavey of West Point; her great-grandchildren, Garrett Hyzer, Ian Feiler, Christopher Hyzer, Rebecca Hyzer, Michael Hyzer and Daniel Leavey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Anderson.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Franklin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Lyle Linder, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin United Methodist Church.

Helen C. Clark
VENICE, Fla. — Helen C. Clark, 90, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died on Thursday, May 25, 2000, in Venice, Fla.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1910, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Herman A. and Bertha Faber Rolff. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Floyd B. Clark.
She is survived by a sister, Bertha Schreiber, of Athens, Wis.; and nieces and nephews William R. Frisbee of Guelph, Ontario, Thomas M. Frisbee of Salt Springs, Fla., and Wendy E. Farley of Cooperstown, N.Y.
Mrs. Clark and her late husband were residents of Oneonta until their relocation to Florida 26 years ago. They owned and operated Clark's Color Center in Oneonta until 1965. Before her marriage, she was employed as a secretary-stenographer with the New York Telephone Co. in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Oneonta and a former member of its sanctuary guild. She was also a member of the Oneonta Women's Club, serving as their treasurer for many years. In addition, she was a member of the Oneonta Garden Club and the women's auxiliary of A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, serving for many years as a volunteer at the nursing home.
In Florida, she was a member of the Venice Presbyterian Church.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin, N.Y., with the Rev. Spencer van Gulick of the First United Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y.
Joseph B. Hobbib
WEST ONEONTA — Joseph B. Hobbib, 88, of Highland Heights, West Oneonta, died unexpectedly of a heart attack May 31, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 14, 1911, in Beirut, Lebanon, the son of Bashara and Mary (Monser) Hobbib.
He married Mae Thompson in Plainfield, N.J., in 1940. Mrs. Hobbib died in 1987.
Mr. Hobbib was a troubleshooting technician for 35 years with AT&T until his retirement in 1976.
He was a resident of Oneonta for 28 years.
Mr. Hobbib was a member of the Plainfield, N.J., Elks Club and was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mr. Hobbib is survived by his son, Charles F. Hobbib, of West Oneonta; two grandchildren, Diana M. and Charles T. Hobbib; three great-grandchildren, Raquel, Edwin and Nija, all of Oneonta; a daughter-in-law, Karey Andrews, of West Oneonta; three brothers, George of Pennsylvania and Elias and Norman of New Jersey; a sister, Catherine Schley, also of New Jersey; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Joseph, in July 1999.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Donald Yarborough, pastor of the Community Gospel Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Tuesday. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Thomas C. Cort
ROXBURY — Thomas C. Cort, 80, of Roxbury, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Liverpool, England, the son of Percival Cort and Alice Harrison.
Mr. Cort married Dorothy Banyon on July 15, 1943, in the Bronx.
He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1941-1945, was employed by New York City for 20 years, and was a deputy sheriff for Ulster County.
He moved to Roxbury from Ulster County in April 1986.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Queens; VFW Accord; Ralph S. Ives Jr. American Legion Post, Roxbury; and the Roxbury Senior Citizens Club.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cort, of Roxbury; two daughters, Celia and her husband, George Lang, of Freeport and Christine and her husband, Caesar Fucci, of Freeport; four grandchildren, George Thomas Lang, Thomas C. Fucci, Daniel C. Fucci and Alicia Fucci; three great-grandchildren, George N. Lang, Michael T. Fucci and Mathew N. Fucci; one sister, Irene Hinton; and three nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury, with military honors. Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 4, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home.

Eva M. Rhodes
ONEONTA — Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery for Eva M. Rhodes, who died on Feb. 8, 2000.

Olive Payne
COOPERSTOWN — Olive Payne, 74, of Rural Route 5 in the town of Oneonta, formerly of Warnerville, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Mrs. Payne was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Summit, and was the daughter of Charles and Frances (Mackey) Wilday.
She lived most of her life in the Jefferson area and moved to Warnerville in 1993, and to Oneonta in 1997.
Mrs. Payne was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church and the Jefferson United Methodist Woman, and she was a member and past president of the Richmondville American Legion Post #249. She also was an election inspector for the Schoharie County Board of Elections for many years.
She is predeceased by her husband, Francis (Frank) Payne, who died Jan. 19, 1982.
Mrs. Payne is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Moseman of Grand Gorge; two sisters, Marjorie Barlow of Keystone Heights, Fla., and Elsa Radford of Central Bridge; one brother, Robert M. Wilday of Sharon Springs and Wachula, Fla.; a granddaughter, Amy Riddle of Port Richie, Fla.; one grandson, Keith A. Payne of Memphis, Mo.; and one great-grandson, Keith L. Payne, also of Memphis, Mo.; one aunt, Jen Denison of Sebastian, Fla.; one uncle, Robert Teytand of Carlisle; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Gockel, officiating. Calling hours will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Jefferson.

Ethel Fancher
WORCESTER — Ethel Fancher, 96, of Worcester died Sunday, June 3, 2000, at home.
She was born Nov. 23, 1903, in North Harpersfield, the daughter of Theron and Bertha (Evans) Henness.
She married Hayward Fancher. He died in 1976.
Mrs. Fancher was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Fancher is survived by her children, Donald and his wife, Leona, of Worcester, Paul and his wife, Jane, of Worcester, Shirley and her husband, Robert Eichhorn, of Laurens, Dorothy Yates of Clifford, Pa., and Michael, Karen and Kathy; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sons, Harold and Francis; a grandson, Wayne; and two brothers, Melvin and Lauren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester with the Rev. George I. Goodwin Jr., retired, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel.

Earl F. Gridley
NORWICH — Earl F. Gridley, 84, formerly of Springvale Road, Norwich, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 3, 2000, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.
Born and raised in the Guilford area, Earl attended the Guilford schools. He worked for a short time for Dexheimer's Movers, then entered the military. He was a veteran of World War II who served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. During his service, Earl helped construct air fields. Following his discharge, he continued his career in construction by gaining employment as a heavy equipment operator for the T.J. Madden Construction Co. in Oriskany. He was also a licensed crane operator who worked on many bridge projects, replacing I beams during the construction of the bridges. After Earl retired, he continued in his love of the out-of-doors by raising blueberries in his own patch on his property and by boating, fishing and camping.
He traveled extensively throughout the United States, especially the Western states.
Born Sept. 18, 1915, in Guilford, Earl was the son of Earl and Mable (Towsley) Gridley.
He was married to Elizabeth Bartlett, who passed away in October 1976.
Earl is survived by his children, Frederick Gridley of South New Berlin, and Patricia Jorgensen and her husband, Charles, of Cocoa, Fla.; by four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.
Earl was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth; his sister, Flora Pierce; and his brothers, Lewis and Roy Gridley.
Funeral services for Earl will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Simpson of Norwich officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Russell E. Quintin
MORRIS — Russell Eugene Quintin, 72, of Morris died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born in Lake Ariel, Pa., on May 23, 1928, the son of Dewitt and Arlene (Bryant) Quintin.
He married Jeanne Myers on Aug. 13, 1948, at the Zion Episcopal Church in Morris.
He was a lifelong area dairy farmer and also was a Morris school bus driver for several years.
He was a member of the Butternuts Lodge #515 F.&A.M. and the Oneonta Lodge #1312 B.P.O.E. Elks. He was a former member and a past president of the Morris Central School Board of Education for nine years, Eastern A.I. Association, Morris Fire Department, the Farm Bureau, the Holstein Fresian Association, New York State Horse Breeders Association and the Harness Horse Association of Central New York.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of Morris; his three daughters, Patty Hammond and her husband, Eric, of Morris, Penny Klingman and her husband, Keith, of Gilbertsville and Peggy Hannigan and her husband, Peter, of Delhi; his grandchildren, Stacey and Tracey Klingman and Andrew, Brian and Allison Hannigan. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph Quintin, and his wife, Alice, of Morris; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Quintin of Richfield Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Butler Quintin, who died in 1978.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Morris, with the Rev. John Scott III and the Rev. Douglas Burley officiating. Committal services and burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, from 7 to 9 p.m.
