Arleen O. Hood
DELHI — Arleen O. Hood, 74, of Delhi, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
She was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Oneonta, the daughter of John C. and Letitia (Simmons) Oliver.
She is survived by her husband, G. Douglas Hood; they were married on March 17, 1945. Also surviving are two sons, John (Elizabeth) Hood of Bloomville and Martin (Tracey) Hood of Delhi; two daughters, Marjorie (Victor) Bleyswyck of Ontario, Canada, and Pamela (Gary) Valentine of Jacksonville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Trelease, of Delhi; a sister and brother-in-law, Gary and Lois Hood, of Delhi; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. John R. Oliver of Delhi and Mrs. Arthur J. Oliver of Delhi; a brother, Roy Scrimshaw, of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, John and Arthur Oliver, predeceased her.
Mrs. Hood graduated from Delaware Academy, Delhi, and attended the State University College of Technology at Delhi. She had worked as a nurse's aide at O'Connor Hospital and for Delaware Academy as a traffic crossing guard, cafeteria and study hall monitor. Mrs. Hood retired after serving as a secretary in the guidance department.
She was a member of United Ministry of Delhi for many years.
Memorial services will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2000, at the United Ministry of Delhi at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Mark Chatterton officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Delhi Fire Department Emergency Squad.

James E. Cornell
ONEONTA — James E. Cornell, 63, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.
Jim was born on Feb. 17, 1937, in Oneonta, the son of Ralph and Evelyn (Sobers) Cornell Sr.
He married Mary Jane Campbell Powers on Oct. 25, 1980. She predeceased him on March 10, 2000.
He served as a medic in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958.
During his working career, Jim was an operating room technician at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City and The Hospital in Sidney.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church.
He is survived by his stepsons and their spouses, Tom and Gloria Powers of Berlin Center, Ohio, Terry and Kathy Powers of Ballston Lake, Tim and Cherie Powers of Worcester, and Bill Powers of Oneonta; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ralph Cornell Jr. of Bainbridge and Lewis Cornell of Sidney; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 22, 2000, at 10 a.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour before service time on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Francis A. Pickett
STAMFORD — Francis A. Pickett, 73, of Stamford, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born April 20, 1927, in Hobart, the son of Francis L. and Daisy (Moore) Pickett.
He married Eleanor Simmons in Hobart on Nov. 14, 1952. She survives, as do a son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Rebecca Pickett, of Wylie, Texas; two grandchildren, Gregory and Audrey Pickett, of Wylie, Texas; a brother, Wayne, and his wife, Christine Pickett, of Stamford; four nephews and a niece; and a sister-in-law, Julia Pickett, of Grand Gorge.
Mr. Pickett served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Delaware County Dairy in Roxbury after 25 years of employment.
He had resided for 25 years in Hobart, 10 years in Florida and five years in Stamford.
Graveside services will take place on Monday, May 22, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Stamford Cemetery, Stamford, with Pastor Elliott Oakes officiating. Calling hours will be on Sunday evening, May 21, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Stamford Emergency Squad.

Ruth Janet (Winters) Rabeler
ONEONTA — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ruth Janet (Winters) Rabeler will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement on Sunday, May 28, 2000, at 2 p.m.
A longtime resident of Oneonta, Ruth passed away on Dec. 20, 1999, after a brief hospitalization in Ann Arbor, Mich.
After her graduation from Syracuse Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Syracuse University in 1949, she came to Oneonta, where she served as school nurse in the Oneonta Consolidated School System until 1953. In 1962, she became the Clinical Instructor in the School of Practical Nursing then being formed at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital. She became the director of the program in 1967, a position she held until her retirement in 1980.
Maren R. Haehnel
ONEONTA — The burial of Maren Rebekah Haehnel will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta. (Enter through the back gate off Park Street.) There will be a short graveside service. We welcome anyone who desires to attend.

ONEONTA — A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday May 22, 2000, at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, for Alfred Harris of Oneonta, who died Nov. 23, 1999, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, officiating.

ONEONTA — A graveside committal service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, for Thomas Scorzafava of Oneonta, who died March 29, 2000.

John A. Rehm
HARTWICK — John A. Rehm, 52, of Hartwick, died Saturday afternoon, May 20, 2000, at home.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1947, in Elmont, a son of the late Joseph and Stella (Widjenski) Rehm.
He married Gina Valentine on Sept. 20, 1986, in Shoreham.
At the age of 10, John and his family moved to California, where he graduated from high school.
Throughout his life he was employed as a stone mason both in California and New York. Upon moving to Hartwick in 1989, he was employed by Sentinel Products in Richfield Springs.
John was an avid golfer and was a former subscriber to the Leatherstocking Golf Course.
John's family wishes to thank everyone at Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., most especially Helen, Diane, Beth, Carol, Bill and George, for their kind, considerate and understanding care.
John is survived by his wife of 13 years, Gina; one daughter, Hannah Rehm; and one son, Kyle Rehm, all of Hartwick; two sisters, Roseanne Shand and her husband, Richard, and Cathy Orozco and her husband, Bobby; two brothers, Joseph Rehm and Sean Rehm, all of California; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating.
At the request of the family there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Virginia Herdman
SUMTER, S.C. — Virginia Ruth Herdman, 66, of Cherryvale Drive, died on Sunday, May 14, 2000, in Tuomey Hospital, Sumter, S.C.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1933, in New Berlin, N.Y., daughter of the late Paul and Viola Mae Brigham Herdman.
She was raised in Richfield Springs, N.Y., and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.
Virginia went on to make a career with the United States Air Force. During her 20 years, she served in Guam, Puerto Rico and Lakeland Air Force Base. She was honorably discharged with the rank of master sergeant. After her Air Force career she worked for both the Westinghouse Co. and the Campbell Soup Co.
Surviving her are a sister, Sandra Herdman of Vestal; three aunts, Grace Potter of New York Mills, Gladys Irons of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Ethel McCurdy of Harrisburg, Pa.; three uncles, Morris Brigham of Cherry Valley, Arnold Brigham of Horseheads, and George Brigham of Unadilla; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by four uncles, Herbert, Edward, Lester and Kenneth Brigham.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Very Rev. James Jadick, United States Air Force chaplain, officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service, 10 to 11 a.m.

Francis A. Pickett

Ruth Dumbleton
ONEONTA — Ruth (King) Rorick Dumbleton, 100, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 18, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.
Ruth had just celebrated her 100th birthday on May 6, 2000.
She was born in Susquehanna, Pa., the daughter of the late Michael and Ida (Wank) King.
She is survived by her children, one daughter, Mary Taylor of Seal Beach, Calif.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy of Vero Beach, Fla., Donald and Marian of Vestal, and Paul and Mary of Oneonta; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Madeline King of Elmira; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Joseph Fanti.
Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery, Susquehanna, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the Hennessey's Funeral Home, 208 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, Pa. on Tuesday from 10 to 11:15 a.m.
Walter C. Reed
STEWART MANOR — Walter Cameron Reed, 56, of Stewart Manor, died Friday evening, May 19, 2000, in Stewart Manor.
He was born Nov. 27, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Cameron and Grace (Hubbard) Reed.
Walt attended Kenyon College in Gambrer, Ohio. He was a journeyman/electrician for the Local 3 IBEW for 35 years.
He was active in the Christ Episcopal Church in Manhasset and Stewart Manor and also St. Bartholomew Church in Manhattan.
He was a very loving son and brother who will be deeply missed.
Walter is survived by his mother, Grace Reed of Stewart Manor; his sister, Priscilla Breen of Goodyear Lake; and several cousins.
Walter was predeceased by his father Cameron "Bill" Reed in 1991.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Milford Center Cemetery, Milford Center, with the Rev. Stephen Reese, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Committal services and burial with full military honors for the Rev. Harry Grant Campbell Jr., 82, of Columbus, Ga., who died May 14, 2000, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2000, in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, with the Right Rev. David Ball, retired bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Douglas C. Smith, rector of Christ Church, Cooperstown, and the Rev. David McSwain, rector of St. George's Episcopal Church, Schenectady.
Military honors will be accorded by The Fort Drum 10th Mountain Division Casualty Area Command.
