Elvira Muniz Lopez
ONEONTA — Mrs. Elvira Muniz Lopez, 93, of Oneonta, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born Dec. 27, 1906, in Tampa, Fla., the daughter of Adriano and Jesusa (Campo) Muniz.
She married Emilio Lopez on May 13, 1939, in New York City.
Elvira was a medical secretary for the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elvira and William Frewert of Gilbertsville; and two grandchildren, Austin and Nora Frewert of Gilbertsville.
Elvira was predeceased by a sister and a brother.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Inc. in Tampa, Fla.
There will be no calling hours.

`Jack' Evenson
DELHI — Helmer M. `Jack' Evenson, 87, of Federal Hill II, Delhi, died Monday Feb. 21, 2000, at Margaretville Memorial Hospital.
The son of Henry and Marie (Jacobsen) Evenson, he was born March 19, 1912, in Brooklyn, where he grew up and married Jennie Ippolito in 1937. She died July 13, 1988.
`Jack' was employed for 21 years by the New York City Rapid Transit System as a subway engineer-operator and subsequently as a refrigeration service man for the Hot Point Division of GE.
A former 30-year Bayshore resident, he moved to Delhi in 1985. Surviving are two sons, Anthony B. Caruso of Delhi and Lawrence H. Evenson of Fredericksburg, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Carlson of Brooklyn.
Graveside services will be in the spring at the convenience of the family with burial in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, under the direction of Hall & Peet Funeral Home.
Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.
Jean Fuegmann
ESPERANCE — Additional survivors of Jean Fuegmann, 56, of Esperance, who died Saturday, Feb. 19, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, include two sisters, Ruth Schulz of North Franklin and Dorothy Oakley of Hobart; a brother, Ellis White of Davenport; a stepsister, Ella Strattis of Philadelphia, Pa.; a stepbrother, Ellis Guile of North Blenheim; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill.
Mildred T. Whaling
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Mildred T. Whaling, 101, of Cooperstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home in Cooperstown.
Mildred was born in Milford on July 25, 1898, a daughter of Harvey and Alberta (Kenyon) Tubbs.
Mrs. Whaling graduated from Cooperstown High School, Class of 1916, after which she graduated from the Oneonta Normal School.
She married Walter H. Whaling on July 25, 1925, in the Cooperstown United Methodist Church.
Mildred taught school (grades K through 3) in Herkimer and Schenectady as well as substitute teaching in Cooperstown, when she and her family returned to Cooperstown in 1946.
Mildred was the oldest member of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, former president of the United Methodist Women's Group, former president of the Resident Council at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home, a member of the Otsego-Hartwick Chapter No. 201 Order of the Eastern Star (she would have received her 70-year pin this year), and a docent for NYSHA at the Fenimore House.
She was an avid reader, a Sunday school teacher, enjoyed playing bridge and canasta (especially with her grandchildren), enjoyed bingo and traveled extensively.
Mildred is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jolanda Whaling of Austin, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Howard Berg of Granby, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Jonathan and Maureen Berg, Brian and Christine Berg, Barbara and Donald Salisbury III, Philip and Elizabeth Whaling, Timothy Whaling, Christopher and Sarah Whaling and Michelle Whaling; eight great-grandchildren, Megan Berg, Erin Berg, Corey Berg, Kyle Berg, Shea Berg, Cristina Salisbury, John Kenyon Whaling and Isabele Chamberlain Whaling; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter H. Whaling, on June 18, 1962.
A funeral service will be on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Cooperstown United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jeffrey Hale, pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, and William Highfield, pastor of the Burlington Flats and West Exeter United Methodist churches.
Mrs. Whaling will be placed in the receiving vault at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown until burial in the spring in Maryland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church at 66 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326; the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. at 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
Ann Albrecht
OTEGO — Mrs. Ann Albrecht, 81, of Otego, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at The Meadows in Cooperstown.
She was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Vintondale, Pa., the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Mamchak) Pander.
She married James Albrecht on June 24, 1939, in Yonkers. He died Feb. 11, 1960.
Ann was an assistant housekeeper at the Hilton Inn, Tarrytown, retiring in 1979. Following her retirement, Ann moved to Otego from Dobbs Ferry and lived in Melody Village Mobile Home Park. She enjoyed gardening and reading.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Linda Albrecht of Redding, Conn., and James Albrecht of Oneonta; a daughter, Carol Ann Klein and James Ricca, her companion and family member, of Otego; two sisters, Helen Holst of Billings, Mont., and Pauline Raffaelle of Yonkers; one stepsister, Susan Sencen of Yonkers; two stepbrothers, Michael Wasicsko of Hialeah, Fla., and John Wasicsko of New Paltz; two grandchildren and their spouses, Howard and his wife, Cindy Bucci, of Otego and Lori Ann and her husband, James Biagioni, of Otego; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine and Theresa Pander; two stepsisters, Marie Jacobs and Katherine Haslinger; and two stepbrothers, George and Nicholas Wasicsko.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2000, from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with Father Robert Longobucco, pastor, officiating.
Ann will be cremated and her cremains will be buried in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to the West Oneonta Emergency Squad in memory of Ann Albrecht.

Ruth A. Buckley
SCOTIA — Ruth A. Buckley, professionally known as Tommy Atkins, one of America's leading lady ventriloquists, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Ellis Hospital.
Born in Oneonta, she graduated from Oneonta High School, where she won the Abraham S. Kellogg Prize Speaking Contest and belonged to the National Honor Society, and from Syracuse University, Class of 1947, where she was named to Alpha Epsilon Rho National TV and Radio Honorary and Zeta Phi Eta, National Women's Speech Honorary.
She came to Schenectady to join General Electric and the program staff of WRGB-TV where she wrote and produced her own program, "Tommy Atkins, The Story Lady."
She made promotional appearances for the General Electric Co. at major trade shows, sales promotions and in GE industrial films across the U.S. With her little pal, "Deputy Oogie," she was a featured performer for 30 seasons as Lady Marshal at Ghost Town, the Great Escape Fun Park, Lake George.
She was co-founder and past-president of the Capital District Ring 186 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, founder of All Magic Day and recipient of the Merlin Award from IBM.
Nationally recognized, she entertained at schools, children's and veterans hospitals, and on CP and MD telethons, including St. Jude's. She was a member of Puppeteers of America and the North American Association of Ventriloquists.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Buckley of Glenville.
She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Glenville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Route 50, Glenville.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.
Anna M. Doyle
ONEONTA — Anna M. Doyle, 106, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home.
She was born June 4, 1893, in the town of Seward, Schoharie County, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (McKessy) Purcell.
Mrs. Doyle graduated from Union St. High School in Cobleskill in 1913. She then graduated from Oneonta Normal School, and taught school for a period of eight years.
She married John A. Doyle, who was the Oneonta division superintendent for the D&H Railroad in 1923. Mr. Doyle died in 1949.
After the death of her husband, she worked for a brief time at Bresee's. For many years, she supplemented her income by running a rooming house for college students, while maintaining an active role in civic affairs, including being a member of the Ladies Democratic Club. Presently, she was the oldest living member of St. Mary's Church.
Mrs. Doyle was well known and highly regarded by all who knew her.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, with whom she has remained close over her lifetime.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Friends are invited to call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until departing for church.
Burial will be in the spring in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Barbara Carlson
SAND HILL — Barbara Helene Weir Carlson, 87, of Sand Hill, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
She was born March 12, 1912, in North Tarrytown. She was raised in Lee, Mass.
She graduated from Russell Sage College in 1933.
She married Clarence Carlson on Oct. 12, 1935. They resided in East Orange, N.J., Indianapolis, Ind., and Nutley, N.J., before moving to Sand Hill in 1971. She was an active member of Sand Hill United Methodist Church for the past 29 years.
Besides her beloved husband, Clarence, of 64 years, she is survived by her children and their spouses, Suzanne and Robert Keim of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Robert and Nancy Carlson of West Chester, Pa.; five grandchildren, Robert Keim of Sunnyvale, Calif., Jennifer and Craig Schilpp of West Chester, Pa., David and Kristine Keim of Needham, Mass., Russell and Rebecca Carlson of Thomasville, N.C., and Lisa and Eric Johnson of Horsham, Pa.; six great-grandchildren, Katie Keim, David Schilpp, Alyssa Carlson, Sarah Schilpp, Andrew Keim, Riley Carlson; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Carlson Lundgren of Avon Park, Fla.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at 3 p.m. at the Sand Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Fiske officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sand Hill United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Anthony Lee Ross
BAINBRIDGE — Anthony Lee Ross, 3 months, of Bainbridge, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born Nov. 19, 1999, in Johnson City to Jeremiah and Shelly (Stevens) Ross.
Anthony Lee is survived by his parents, Jeremiah and Shelly Ross of Bainbridge; three brothers, Aaron, Christian and Tyler Ross of Bainbridge; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Polly Ross of Bainbridge; his paternal great-grandparents, Lee and Florence Ross and Marion and Robert Johnson; his maternal grandparents, Irvin and Vicky Stevens; his maternal great-grandparents, Bertha and Clinton Ellis and Norris VanWhy and the late Beverly Stevens; aunts and uncles, Stacia and David Lynch of Perkasie, Pa., Ray and Beth-Anne Wiswell of Sidney and Stephanie Stevens of Bainbridge; as well as several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 25, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. Randy Eliason, pastor of the Assembly of God Church of Sidney, will officiate.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anthony Lee's name to the Bainbridge Fire Department or Emergency Squad or the Sidney Fire Department or Emergency Squad.

Evelyn C. Cahill
ONEONTA — Evelyn C. Cahill, 87, of Oneonta, died Feb. 22, 2000, at Fox Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 22, 1912, in Ilion, the daughter of Edwin and Ella (Slater) Acker.
She was married to Harold Cahill who predeceased her.
Mrs. Cahill worked for a number of year for what was then the Bendix Corp. of Sidney, having retired in 1977. She was a lifelong area resident.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary B. Schafer of Boyton Beach, Fla.; one sister, Flora M. Jefferies of Downingtown, Pa.; and close friends, Roger and Roxanne Carpenter of Oneonta.
A memorial service will be held later at Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home in Oneonta.
There will be no calling hours. Those who wish may make contributions to Fox Nursing Home, 1 Norton Ave., Oneonta.

Emilija Pauksis
FRANKLIN — Emilija Pauksis, 94, of Franklin, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000.
The daughter of Jekabs and Trine (Vitols) Strauss, she was born Dec. 11, 1905, in Laza, Latvia.
She was raised on a dairy farm there, and on Dec. 25, 1937, she married Andrejs Pauksis in Liepaja, Latvia.
In 1950, they emigrated with their son, Ivars, to New York and settled in Bayside, Queens. Mrs. Pauksis was a homemaker with a gift for gardening, sewing and baking, and a love of animals.
In 1978, they moved to Franklin, where they pursued an active retirement, raising fruits, vegetables and flowers and keeping bees. Emilija's greatest joy was spending time with her family, who were enriched by her steadfast love and patience.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ivars and Christine Pauksis of Franklin; two granddaughters, Iness Snider and her husband, Mike, of Franklin and Alina Pauksis of Albany; and a great-granddaughter, Tabitha Snider.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrejs, in 1998; and by her three brothers, Janis, Ernests and Alberts.
Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, and funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin in the spring.
James P. Potter
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. — James P. Potter of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Washington, D.C., passed away after a short illness on Feb. 19, 2000, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.
He was born Dec. 30, 1949, in Sidney.
He is survived by his mother, Rosemary Potter and her fiance, William Wlasiuk, of Sidney; his brother, Keith of Afton; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Patricia of Lansdale, Pa.; his nephew Michael, who was also his godson, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; his nephew David of Lansdale, Pa.; his maternal grandparents, Earl and Kathryn Mumford of Otego; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, James A. Potter.
A memorial service was held Feb. 23, 2000, at the Buse Funeral Home in Hummelstown, Pa., with graveside services and burial to be held in Sidney at a later date.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in his name to Hope Lodge, 125 Lucy Ave., Hummelstown, Pa. 17036.
