Edward B. Mickel
WORCESTER — Edward B. Mickel, 74, of Worcester died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Seward, the son of Welton and Lula (Robinson) Mickel.
He married Amy J. Denny Pitt on Nov. 19, 1949, in Schenevus. She predeceased him on Jan. 15, 1980.
Mr. Mickel served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Mickel moved to Worcester in 1948. In 1993, he moved to Fly Creek with his granddaughter, where he resided for 21/2 years before entering the A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home.
He worked in housekeeping at the A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home for many years.
He was a member of the Worcester United Methodist Church.
Mr. Mickel is survived by a sister, Lula Mae Swart of Woodside Hall, Cooperstown; stepgranddaughter, Donna Mulford of Fly Creek; stepgrandson, Raymond Johns of Schenectady; stepson, Nicholas J. Pitt of Galway; and several step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at the E.J. Skinner Co., Worcester.
The Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor of the Worcester and East Worcester United Methodist Churches, will officiate.
A military committal service will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, at a later date.
Calling hours will be Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, from 2 p.m. until the service time at the funeral chapel.
Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Mickel to the Fly Creek Fire Department, 197 Main St., Fly Creek, N.Y. 13337.

Albert A. Masick
MIDDLEBURGH — Albert A. Masick, 84, of Middleburgh-Schoharie Road, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at his home after being stricken.
He was born in Schenectady on Jan. 17, 1916, a son of Frank and Monica Masick.
His wife, Alma Maxwell Masick, died Oct. 16, 1998.
Mr. Masick was a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill and the owner of Masick Soil Conservation Co., which he started in the 1930s, taking over from the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He was an exempt fireman with the Niagara Hose Co. of Schoharie and a member of the Schoharie Valley Lodge No. 491 F&AM for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the original board of directors of Community Hospital of Schoharie County, a former board member of the Tri-County Motor Club (AAA) and served on the Middleburgh Central School board. He was a member of the 70-plus Ski Club. Mr. Masick also served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He is survived by two daughters, Marily Masick Nolan of Jersey City, N.J., and Amy L. Masick of Schenectady; a son, Charles Masick of Cobleskill; three grandchildren, Kristen Masick and Stephanie Masick, both of Boston, Mass., and Erik Masick of Cobleskill; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, from 4-6 p.m. at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, 63 River St.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, with Rev. Jared VanWagenen IV, pastor of the Schoharie Reformed Church, officiating. A spring burial will be made in the Old Stone Fort Cemetery, Schoharie.

Bernardina Cordes
SIDNEY — Bernardina Cordes, 74, of Sidney, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, at her home.
She was born to the late Geralamo and Giuseppina (Vicari) Mazzola on July 11, 1925, in Manhattan.
Mrs. Cordes married Richard Cordes on May 10, 1947, in Fort Montgomery.
Mr. and Mrs. Cordes owned and operated their own real estate business in Sidney for many years. Mrs. Cordes was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Group and St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Cordes of Sidney; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard Eric and Hyun Sook Park Cordes of Honolulu, Hawaii; two daughters and a son-in-law, Holly Anne and Scott Hanson of Galveston, Texas, and Laura Cordes of Caldwell, Idaho; and one grandchild, Jason Garth Monroe of Caldwell, Idaho.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Carole Dee Cordes, and her stepfather, Giuseppe Ciamato.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 31, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney at 2 p.m.
Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 30, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Helen J. Baldo
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Helen J. Baldo, 68 of Melbourne, Fla., a higher education administrator, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Holmes Regional Medical Center.
Helen was born in Port Norris, N.J.
She went to Brevard County in 1997 from Oneonta.
She worked for the State University College at Oneonta as a higher education administrator and also as an assistant professor and later as assistant president.
She was a member of the Ascension Catholic Church in Mello. She was first elected lady councilman for Oneonta, then secretary for the Percy I. Bugbee Foundation. She was on the board of directors of the Red Cross, Community Women for Otsego County Republic Community. A distinguished alumnus for University College, her name appeared in Who's Who Among American Women and the American Association of University Women.
She was married for 45 years to Albert A. Baldo, who survives, in Melbourne, Fla. She is also survived by a daughter, Christine Baldo of Melbourne, and two grandchildren.
Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Monday at Florida Memorial Funeral Home. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Florida Memorial Funeral Home.

Joseph E. Litwin
OTEGO — Joseph E. Litwin of Otego passed away at his home on Jan. 28, 2000.
He is a former Westchester County resident.
Mr. Litwin is survived by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn; a daughter, Josephine; and a grandson, George Joseph.
There will be no calling hours.

Ruth E. Mulcahy
WORCESTER — Ruth E. Mulcahy, 100, of Worcester, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born March 18, 1899, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Robert and Charlotte (Erdman) Sneider.
She married Thomas B. Mulcahy in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Mulcahy was formerly of New Rochelle, moving to Worcester in 1992.
She was a member of the Holy Name Church in New Rochelle.
She is survived by a son, Thomas and his wife Mildred Mulcahy of Leavenworth, Kan.; a daughter, Carol and her husband Leroy O'Neill of Worcester; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the Holy Name Church, New Rochelle.
Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
There will be no calling hours.

Madeleine Bennett
ORLANDO, Fla. — Madeleine S. Bennett of Maury Road, Orlando, Fla., died Jan. 26, 2000, at the age of 73.
Mrs. Bennett was a former director/teacher at St. Charles Preschool and Extended Care.
She was born in Cooperstown and moved to central Florida in 1956.
A member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, she was active in the Postcard Club, five different paper doll clubs and was president of Belles and Beaux.
She enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Winsor of Apopka and Robert Winsor of Hartwick; three sisters, Barbara Warner of Orlando, Conseel Hart of Massapequa and Audrey Dingman of Canajoharie; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Helen C. Herring
ONEONTA — Mrs. Helen C. Herring, 76, of Oneonta, died Friday evening, Jan. 28, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Gilboa, the daughter of George and Ruth (Hanier) Cook.
She married Hobert "Hobie" J. Herring on May 27, 1950, in Pulaski. Mr. Herring died May 29, 1994.
Helen has lived in Oneonta since the early 1980s. Before that she and her husband lived in Wells Bridge for 20 years.
Helen was a nurses aide having worked at several nursing homes in the area.
She loved animals and was a member of the World Wildlife Federation and the ASPCA.
Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who enjoyed taking care of others and touched so many lives, will be greatly missed by all.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Elaine Ballard of Lantana, Fla., and Christine MacPherson and her friend James Decker of Unadilla; two sons and a daughter-in-law: James and Linda Herring of Oneonta and Thomas Herring and his friend Barbara McLean of Unadilla; one sister, Doris Kirk; nine grandchildren, Kelly, Heather, Lacey, Chad, Brian, Karen, Jeannie, Joey and Skip; six great-grandchildren; her beloved dog, Cuddles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was predeceased by her sister, Glenda Collins.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Donna Joy Schmidt, pastor of the Unadilla United Methodist Church, officiating.
Helen will be cremated at the Hillington Crematory, Morris, and her ashes will be interred at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery in the spring.
The family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish may call.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals, Hyde Park, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 in loving memory of Helen C. Herring.

James J. Anecelle
GOODYEAR LAKE — James J. Anecelle, 79, of Oneonta, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Syracuse, the son of Angelo and Angeline (Zingaro) Anecelle.
He married Esther Green on Aug. 21, 1943, in Ithaca.
For a period of 17 years, retiring in 1975, Jim was employed as a x-ray technician for the Homer Folks Hospital in Oneonta. Before that he was also affiliated with Biggs Memorial in Ithaca and the Onondaga Sanitarium in Syracuse. After his retirement, he worked as a x-ray technician at the A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta for two years.
He and his wife then moved to Cortland, where he worked with Smith-Corona for four years.
In April of 1998, they moved back to the area and made their home at Goodyear Lake.
He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
James is survived by his wife, Esther Anecelle of Goodyear Lake; his children and their spouses, William and Nancy Anecelle of New Ulm, Texas, and Angie and Joe DeFiore of Goodyear Lake; four grandchildren, Christopher Anecelle, Cindy Phillips and Adam and Matt Heatley; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jacob Phillips; a brother and a sister, Ralph Anecelle and Frances Evans of Cortland; a sister-in-law, Norma Anecelle of Cortland; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Anecelle.
A Mass of Requiem will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at 1 p.m. in St. James Episcopal Church, Main Street, Oneonta, with the Rev. Cn Mark R. Cole, rector, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cortland.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday, one hour before service time, at the Fireside Room in St. James Church, at which time the family will be in attendance. (Please use Main Street office entrance.)
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. James Memorial Fund.

Herman H. Yeager
ONEONTA — Herman H. Yeager, 73, of Oneonta, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at the Albany Veterans Hospital, Albany. He died peacefully Friday following a short time period with cancer.
He was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Chinook, Wash., the son of Fred Yeager and Ruth Johnson.
He married Louisa Graziani on March 12, 1952, in Patchogue. She died March 29, 1984.
He served in the Army in World War II.
Herman worked as a self-employed contractor and a school bus driver for the Margaretville Central School District. He operated the Inn-Between Restaurant in Margaretville. In prior years, he was employed at Lutz Oil Co. in Roxbury and Lutz Feed Co.
He moved to Oneonta in 1987. He was formerly of Roxbury and Margaretville.
He was a member of the Ralph S. Ives Jr. American Legion Post, Roxbury, and the VFW Post 11029 in Chinook, Wash. He was a past scoutmaster for Troop 41, and the Little League coach in Roxbury.
Herman is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Diana Yeager of Apalachin; one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Scott Mosier of Clifton Park; four grandchildren, Antoinette, Lindsay, Louisa and Alexandra; one sister, Ruthann Halvorson of St. Louis, Mo.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Timothy Yeager, on Dec. 31, 1990.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell officiating.
Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10 until service time, when the family will be in attendance.
Contributions in Herman's memory may be made to the Ralph S. Ives American Legion Post #1785, Roxbury, N.Y. 12474.
