Josephine Mongillo
ONEONTA — Josephine Mongillo, 66, of Oneonta, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
She was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Oneonta, the daughter of Charles and Eva (Oliver) Heck.
She married Michael Mongillo on May 29, 1949, in Oneonta.
An Oneonta resident all her life, Josephine attended Oneonta High School.
She worked as a sales clerk at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Oneonta for more than 25 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church, its Rosary Society and its faith sharing group. She also was a Hospice volunteer and a member of the Busy Bee's group of the Salvation Army and the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union.
Josephine is survived by her husband, Michael Mongillo of Oneonta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Sue Mongillo of Oneonta and Patrick and Lori Mongillo of Unadilla; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Wheeler of Oneonta and Barbara and Vincent Eady of Endicott. She is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Betty Heck of Rome, Robert and Marion Heck of Hollywood, Fla., and Wayne and Margo Heck of Oneonta; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mildred and Ralph Babcock of Sidney and Lillian Olsen of Bloomville; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly and Jeffrey Wheeler of Oneonta, Monica, Jared and Todd Mongillo of Oneonta, Kelly and Mark Mongillo of Unadilla and Gregg, Shawn, and Joelle Eady of Endicott; a great-granddaughter, Kyla Jenae Wheeler; along with several, nieces, nephews, and cousins; including a very special cousin, Zana Coates, and her husband, Frank, of Troy.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Patrick Mongillo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
There will be no prior public calling hours at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's School Building Fund.
Immediately following the Mass, family and friends are invited to a reception at the Sixth Ward Athletic Club to celebrate Josephine's life.
Josephine loved life and brought joy to the lives of all those she touched. Her life was a reflection of her faith in God. The legacy of her love she left with her family and dear friends will remain with us always. We will dearly miss her.

Dorothy Neer
SIDNEY CENTER — Dorothy Bates Neer, 89, of Sidney Center, died Monday evening, Jan. 17, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.
She was born in Norwich on Dec. 24, 1910, to Eugene and Ethel (Aldrich) Bates.
She was raised in Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School and Cortland Teacher's College.
She married George Neer on June 24, 1954. He predeceased her in 1982.
She was an elementary teacher for Sidney Center School District, retiring after more than 35 years service. She was a member of the Sidney Center Baptist Church.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Sena of Islamorada, Fla.; sisters, Elsie Keller of New Berlin and Lucy Carpenter of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Carole Vandenburg of Oneonta, Diane Sena of Carmel Valley, Calif., Marylou Sena Hopkins (Burt) of Seattle, Wash., Louis Sena (Kristen) of Carmel, Calif., and Phillip Sena of Islamorada, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Robert Carl of Texas, Danielle Sena of Carmel Valley, Calif., Nicholas and Selena Hopkins of Seattle, Wash., and Drew Sena of Carmel, Calif.; and nephews, Donald and David Carpenter of Houston, Texas.
She was predeceased by a brother, Earl Bates.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Sidney Center Baptist Church in Sidney Center, with the Rev. Jerry Shriver officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sidney Center Baptist Church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, just before the service.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Sidney Center Emergency Squad.

Tom Costello
MOUNT UPTON — Raymond "Tom" Costello, 66, of Mount Upton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born to the late Samuel and Marjorie (Russell) Costello on Jan. 27, 1933, in Carbondale, Pa.
Tom married Nancy Wormuth on March 10, 1950, in Hancock.
He was employed as a machinist at E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, when he retired on May 31, 1998.
Tom was a member of the Union #1529 IAM & AW.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking and stockcar racing.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy Costello of Mount Upton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Lawrence Russell of Deposit, Cindy Costello of Mount Upton and Julie and Rick Peet of Gilbertsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kay Costello of Mount Upton and Daniel Costello of Mount Upton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and John Rice of Bainbridge and Marjorie and Frank Zaczek of Deposit; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Samuel J. and Elma Costello of Nineveh and Edward and Maida Costello of Afton; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom is also predeceased by a brother, Richard John Costello.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. William Kuhn, pastor of the Mount Upton Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may call Thursday. Jan. 20, the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Upton Fire Department or the Emergency Squad.

Donald Goebel Jr.
READBURN — Donald F. Goebel Jr., 35, of Readburn, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at home.
He was born March 3, 1964, in Walton, the son of Donald and Ethel (Phillips) Goebel.
He married Cathy Moody on Dec. 28, 1996, in Readburn.
He was an exterminator for Liberty Pest Control, Liberty.
He was a member of the Read Valley Fish & Game Club, where he was vice-president. He was in the Class of 1984 at Walton Central School.
Donald is survived by his wife, Cathy Goebel of Readburn; his parents, Donald and Ethel Goebel Sr. of Readburn; his daughter, Corey Miglianti of Readburn; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry Scott and Nicole Goebel of Readburn; his maternal grandmother, Dora Phillips of Readburn; and two nieces, several uncles and aunts.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the chapel, with the Rev. Troy Allen, of Readburn Assembly of God, officiating.
Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Walton.

Constance Doroski
DAVENPORT — Constance J. Doroski, 55, of Davenport, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born Feb. 18, 1944, in Albany, the daughter of Ronald and Mabel (Clark) Sager.
She married John Doroski on July 4, 1963, in Cortland.
Constance had been employed for seven years at Amadon's Greenhouses in Davenport Center.
Surviving her are her husband, John, at home; a daughter, Bonnie Doroski and her boyfriend, Charles Monroe, of Oneonta; two sons, Darin Doroski and John Doroski II, both of Davenport and John's fiancee, Darlene Bates; five grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita Condon of Davenport.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport, with the Rev. Judith Humphrey-Fox of the Davenport United Methodist Church officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in the spring at Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.
Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.
Karl A. Bundvad
MORRIS — Karl August Bundvad, 91, formerly of Elm Grove, Morris, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.
Karl had worked as a merchant seaman all of his life.
Memorial services will be private and at the convenience of his family in Denmark.
Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
Dorothy Neer

Patricia Ackerley
ANDES — Patricia R. Ackerley, 63, of Andes, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, in Margaretville Hospital after a long and courageous battle with her illness.
Pat was born Oct. 12, 1936, in Downsville, the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy Place Shields.
She married Gerald Ackerley on Aug. 14, 1955, at the Pleasant Valley Church.
A lifelong area resident, Pat graduated from Andes Central in 1955. She also attended the State University College of Technology at Delhi, where she successfully completed her studies and became a licensed practical nurse.
In addition to working at Margaretville Hospital, Pat also worked for Drs. Palen, Drexler & Sofat.
She was a member of the Andes Methodist Church, the Ladies Aid of Pleasant Valley Church, member and president of the Andes Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and will be remembered as an active community member.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald R. (Red) of Andes; three sons, Thomas of Auburn, Steven of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Michael of Albany; daughter, Debra Cronk of Grand Gorge; three brothers, William Shields of Greene, Kevin Shields of Maryland and Richard Winner of Andes; five sisters, JoEllen Proffitt of Franklin, Janice Gladstone of Walton, Judy Tuttle of Sidney, Barbara Trussell of Andes and Vicki Winner of Andes. Pat is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Winner of Andes; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Andes United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Vink and the Rev. Michael Love officiating. Final interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorials to the Andes Methodist Church or the Andes Emergency Squad in Pat's name will be appreciated.
Sally Ames
WORCESTER — Sally Ames, 89, of Worcester, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford.
She was born Feb. 8, 1910, in West Kortright, the daughter of Forman J. and Rachel (Hitt) Barker.
She married Franklin J. Ames on June 27, 1937, in Oneonta. He predeceased her on May 16, 1994.
Mrs. Ames taught school at Meredith for eight years. After marriage, she lived in Worcester where she was a first-grade teacher until 1972, retiring after 35 years of service.
She was a member of the Worcester United Methodist Church, where she served on the Administrative Board, sang in the choir as long as she was able, and was in the Worcester Woman's Club.
Mrs. Ames is survived by her sons, Donald and wife, Connie Ames, of Wilmington, Del., and Roger and wife, Susan Ames, of East Hampton; daughter-in-law, Jean Ames of Worcester; grandchildren, Michael, Bryan, Daniel, David, Beth Marie and William; sister, Marian Jeschke, formerly of Worcester; and many nieces and nephews.
At Mrs. Ames request, she was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor of the United Methodist Churches in Worcester and East Worcester, officiating.
The committal service for Mr. and Mrs. Ames will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester at a later date.
There will be no calling hours.

Emma Butch
WHITE PLAINS, Md. — Emma Butch died at the age of 78 on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the Delaney Towson Health Care Center in Towson, Md. She was formerly of Treadwell, N.Y.
Emma was born June 5, 1921, in South Worcester, the daughter of Ezra and Winifred (Moore) Oliver.
Emma was a member of the Treadwell United Methodist Church, where she assisted Acolytes, church dinners, and fund-raisers.
She was a foster care mother for Delaware County Department of Social Services for 30 years. In later years she developed an artistic flare for water color painting of which she enjoyed giving as gifts to her family and friends.
Emma was active in community activities in both Treadwell, N.Y. and White Plains, Md., in which she moved after living 47 years in Treadwell, N.Y.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Irwin Raiman of White Plains, Md.; a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Deborah Merwin of Treadwell, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Claude Butch, who died Oct. 5, 1979. She was also predeceased by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. The Rev. Bert More will officiate. Emma will be placed in the Bookhout private burial vault to await burial in the spring at Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell, N.Y. The family will receive friends Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, N.Y.

Donald J. Cloke Sr.
NEW KINGSTON — Donald J. Cloke Sr., 76, of New Kingston, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital, Albany.
He was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Croton-on-Hudson, the son of George Cloke and Julia Pettit.
He married Julia Kolberstein. She died in 1986.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He worked as a sheet metal person for local 38 and had also been employed as a sheet metal worker for the railroad.
He moved to New Kingston 20 years ago, coming from Newburgh.
Donald had been a member of the Elks and VFW in prior years.
He always enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Donald is survived by three sons, Donald J. Cloke Jr. of Croton on Hudson, David Cloke of Rome, Ga., and Dennis Cloke of Peekskill; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Daniel Cloke.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell, officiating. Burial will be in the New Kingston Cemetery, New Kingston, at a later date.
Calling hours will be Saturday morning, from 9 a.m. until service time.
