Robert C. Chase Sr.
MILFORD — Mr. Robert C. Chase Sr., 84, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at The Meadows.
Bob was born in Cooperstown on July 16, 1915, a son of Curtis and Maude (Korts) Chase.
Mr. Chase attended Cooperstown School by way of the trolley from Hartwick to Cooperstown.
He married Ruby M. Kilts on Oct. 9, 1937, in Mount Vision.
Bob spent most of his life farming on his homestead at Chase's Gorge and for Lester Martin of Milford. In latter years he spent his time cutting wood, working outdoors in his garden, and small wood working.
Mr. Chase is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Charles Roos of Danvers, Mass.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. (Buster) and Sandy Chase of Cooperstown and Reginald (Reg) and Nancy Chase of Milford; and one special daughter-in-law, Janet Maloof and her husband, Fred of Milford Center; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Nicholas Lavrinos of Fly Creek; a brother, Calvin Chase of Milford; eight grandchildren; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; five great-grandsons; several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
He was predeceased by a son, James A. Chase on April 24, 1972.
A funeral service will be held at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Milford, officiating.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Mr. Chase will be placed in the receiving vault in the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown to await burial in the Milford Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Hartwick District #2 Fire Department at 4877 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 or to the Activity Fund at The Meadows, 140 County Highway, 33 West, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.
A greeting of family and friends will be held at Jackie's Restaurant in Milford immediately following the service.

Walter A. Straut Sr.
FRANKLIN — Walter A. Straut Sr., 72, of Franklin, died peacefully with his family at his side, on Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Airmont, on March 5, 1927, the son of John and Hazel (Starr) Straut.
He married Eva Stout on Nov. 24, 1946.
Walt served in the United States Army during World War II, and was discharged as a private in 1945.
He and his family moved to Franklin from Spring Valley in 1966. While residing in this area, Walt was a self-employed carpenter.
He loved to hunt and fish. He also spent many hours playing guitar and organ at his home after his retirement.
He was a member of Franklin American Legion Post 1689, and the Otsego County Voiture of the 40/8.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eva Straut of Franklin; his four children and their spouses, Patricia and Ken Zaleski of Jasper, Debra and Robert Palmatier of Bainbridge, Gregory and Denise Straut of Otego and Ann Marie and Peter Graham of Canastota; his grandchildren, Evamarie Zaleski and Lance Zaleski, John and Jackie Hendrickson, Cheryl and Mark Sickler, Brian Palmatier, Alana Peck, Tiffiny Palmatier, Shannon Patnaude, Erika and Al Davis, Jonathan Graham and Nathan Straut and Holly Straut; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kameron Sickler. He is also survived by a brother, John Straut of Oklahoma; and a sister-in-law, Helen Straut of Walden.
He was predeceased by two sons, Walter Straut Jr. and Garry Straut.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at 1 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home in Franklin, with the Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, officiating.
A military committal service to be accorded by the Franklin American Legion will be held in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call today at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home in Franklin from 7 to 9 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin American Legion or the Otsego County 40/8.

Herman G. Curry
SCHUYLER LAKE — Herman G. Curry, 74, of county Highway 22, died on Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1925, in Cooperstown, son of the late George and Gladys Light Curry.
A lifelong resident of Schuyler Lake, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.
An honorably discharged United States Air Force veteran, he served our country during World War II. He had served in Japan with the 14th Emergency Rescue Boat Squadron.
On Sept. 18, 1948, he married Shirley Brady in Waterville.
He first had worked for UNIVAC and for 20 years was an electronics technician with Mohawk Data Sciences, retiring in 1985.
He was a former member of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Richfield Springs VFW Post. For several years he served as president of the Schulyer Lake Cemetery Board.
Herman loved the outdoors and used much of his leisure time hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his wife of 51 years, Shirley; are two sons and their wives, Gregory and Maryann Curry of Milford and William and Diane Curry of Mount Vision; a daughter, Diane and her husband, Mark Thompson of Cold Brook; one sister, Ida Davis of Schuyler Lake; four grandchildren, Amy and Colleen Thompson and Justin and Melissa Curry; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service took place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. John Young officiating.
Interment will be in Schuyler Lake Cemetery later this spring. The family received relatives and friends Tuesday morning one hour before the funeral service, 10 to 11 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Schuyler Lake First Responders or the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Lillian Henriksen
MOUNT UPTON — Lillian K. Henriksen, 77, of Mount Upton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.
She was born Aug. 3, 1922, to the late Peter J. and Johanna (Bischoff) Koster in Brooklyn.
Lillian married Walter J. Henriksen on March 29, 1947, in Albertson, Long Island. He predeceased her on Nov. 4, 1992.
Lillian was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, as a burr hand when she retired in 1985.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mount Upton, the past commander of VFW Post #5253 Ladies Auxiliary, Albertson, Long Island, a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, IAM and AW.
Lillian was the cook at The Hospital, Sidney, when her family first moved to the area.
Lillian is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Valerie Henriksen of Mount Upton and Charles and Gloria Henriksen of Mount Upton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Caroline and Richard Jankowski of Oxford and Nancy and Walter Bloor of Davie, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was also predeceased by a brother, William Koster; and a sister, Anne Keane.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 11 a.m. Mary Ann Linder, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Mount Upton, will officiate. Friends may call Friday, Jan. 14, the family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton, in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Mount Upton Roof Fund.

LeRoy F. Edwards
BRANCHVILLE, N.J. — LeRoy F. Edwards, 69, of Branchville, New Jersey, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Born in Franklin, N.J., Mr. Edwards lived in Frankford township and Wantage township before moving to Branchville four years ago.
Mr. Edwards was a World War II and Korean Army veteran, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Mr. Edwards was captain of the police force at Picatinny Arsenal where he worked for 33 years before his retirement. Upon his retirement, he was a driver for Sussex County Transit before his retirement four years ago.
Mr. Edwards was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, North Jersey Lodge #18. He was also a member of American Legion Post 157 in Branchville, Communications Workers of American, AFL-CIO Local 1032, a life member of the Blue Ridge Rescue Squad, and VFW Post 2833 in Kenvil. A member of the New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management, Mr. Edwards was also the former police chief for the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show for over 20 years.
The son of the late Leroy and Ellen J. Ramage Edwards, Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Edwards; two sons, Tommy J. Edwards of Carpentersville, Ill., and Dean Edwards of Unionville, N.Y.; one brother, Joseph Edwards of Edmeston, N.Y.; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, Friday, 11 a.m., at the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St., Branchville, N.J. Visitation will be Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with American Legion services at 8 p.m.

Charlotte Bacon
BATAVIA, Ill. — Charlotte Robb Bacon, 97, of The Holmstad in Batavia, Ill., formerly of East Aurora and Gilberstsville, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Michealsen Health Care Center in Batavia, Ill.
She was born Sept. 7, 1902, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Charles G. and Harriet L. Robb.
She was united in marriage to John Anderson Bacon on Nov. 14, 1925.
Charlotte was the former treasurer and office manager for the Otsego Journal in Gilbertsville, N.Y., from 1954 until 1968.
She is survived by her sons, John A. (Elisabeth) Bacon Jr. of Wayne, Ill. and James E. (Caroline) Bacon of Redding, Conn.; grandchildren, Charles (Sylvia) Bacon of Chicago, Ill., Edmund (Elizabeth) Bacon of Sutton, Mass., Charlotte (Brad) Choyt of Lee, N.H., Rachel (Tycho) Flore of Maastricht, The Netherlands, and Nicholas Bacon of Phoenix, Ariz.; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at The Holmstad's Ahlstrand Chapel in Batavia, with the Rev. Larry Dieckman officiating. A Memorial Eucharistic service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 4th Avenue and Franklin Street, Geneva. The Rev. William Kruse will officiate. Private interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in East Aurora, N.Y.

Pierre Zimmer Jr.
HOBART — Pierre Zimmer Jr., 68, of Hobart, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Delaware County Countryside Care in Delhi.
He was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Brooklyn, the son of Pierre and Marcel Zimmer. He was single.
Mr. Zimmer came to Hobart in 1983 from New York City and resided at Project Independence Inc. in Hobart.
He was an assembly worker in packaging at A.R.C. in Hamden.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus in South Kortright, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula officiating. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will take place in the spring at Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.

Edith B. Haug
STAMFORD — Edith B. Haug, a Stamford area resident for 25 years, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at her home.
Edith was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 26, 1914, and moved to New Jersey while still a young child. She was formerly a resident of Fair Lawn, N.J.
She received her bachelor's of science degree from Newark State College and an master's degree from Paterson State. Edith's teaching career spanned 29 years, 18 of which were spent in the West Milpond, N.J. school system.
During World War II, she served as liaison officer between manufacturer and licensee supply at the naval air base at San Diego, Calif.
Edith was a member of Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society, the Nu Lambda Kappa Honor Society, the Over 70 Ski Club at Scotch Valley, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford.
Edith was the wife of the late Oscar (Augie) Haug Jr., who died in 1987.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Porcoro, and son-in-law, Eugene Porcoro, of Pitcher; four grandchildren, Michael B. Wanas of Alexandria, Va., Christine Paul of Cypress, Calif., and Frank and Eugene Porcoro of Pennsylvania; and one great-grandchild, Ian Paul, of Cypress, Calif.
Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, between 2 and 6 p.m. at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., (corner of Liberty), Stamford.
Funeral services will be private.

Catherine Palmatier
NORWICH — Catherine Mae Palmatier, 80, formerly of Bainbridge, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at the Gilmore Health Care Facility, Norwich.
She was born to the late Henry and Kittie (Shepard) Williams on Feb. 27, 1919, in Bainbridge.
Mrs. Palmatier married Henry H. Palmatier on May 5, 1936, in Waverly. He predeceased her on Oct. 24, 1994.
She was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix as a riveter when she retired 1964. Mrs. Palmatier was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bainbridge.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Sherry Palmatier of Bainbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Walter Glendening of Bainbridge; brother, Raymond and Mary Williams of Sidney; daughter-in-law, Claudia Palmatier of Bainbridge; sister-in-law, Mary Williams of Norwich; brother-in-law, Clifford and Sue Palmatier of Walton; sister-in-law, Gertrude Fowler of Oriskany; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also predeceased by a son, Ronald J. Palmatier in 1994; and three daughters, Dolores Knapp in 1969, Shirley Pritchard in 1996, and Dawn Palmatier in 1938.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Hazel E. Briggs
GRANVILLE — Hazel E. Briggs, 87, of Granville, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, in Zephyrhills, Fla.
She moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., 30 years ago from Granville.
She was a homemaker in her own home.
She was a Protestant. She was a member of the Florida Tourist Club, Zephyrhills, Fla.
Hazel is survived by her sons, Dr. Robert Briggs of Florida and Douglas Briggs of Texas; daughters, Dorothy Linhart and Wanda VanPelt, both of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
