Rosemary Grasso Terry
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Rosemary Louise Grasso Terry, 64, of 141 Loblolly Drivr, Spartanburg, S.C., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, in the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.
She was born in Queens, the daughter of the late Louis Grasso and Rose Gencarelli Grasso Behan.
She was a 1956 graduate of Cornell University and received her master's degree in education from the State University College at Oneonta. She retired after 34 years of teaching home economics in the Sidney Central School District in Sidney.
Mrs. Terry moved to the Spartanburg area in 1993, from Unadilla.
She was a member of the New York State Teachers Association and the St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Boiling Springs, S.C.
Mrs. Terry is survived by her husband, Harold O. Terry of the home; her uncle and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gencarelli of Spartanburg, S.C.; one aunt, Marie Gencarelli Francesse of Spartanburg, S.C.; and several cousins and children.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at 4 p.m. at the St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Boiling Springs, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Kate Moorehead.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date in the Page Cemetery in Downsville, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Georgia Sawyer
WORCESTER — Georgia Sawyer, 80, of Worcester died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at her son's home in Decatur.
She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Worcester, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Wright) McClintock.
She married Harold Sawyer on Dec. 24, 1937, in Worcester. He predeceased her on Oct. 31, 1978.
Mrs. Sawyer was a lifetime area resident. She attended the Hall Road District School in Worcester, a one-room schoolhouse.
She was employed at Astrocom in Oneonta for several years, most recently she was a self-employed home care giver.
Mrs. Sawyer was a member of the Worcester United Methodist Church, the Worcester Bowling league, and was an avid gardener who enjoyed her family and her home. She will be dearly missed by many.
Mrs. Sawyer is survived by three sons, A. Joseph and his wife, Sharon Sawyer of Worcester, Larry and his wife, Donna Sawyer of Oneonta and Jerry and his wife, Patricia Sawyer of Decatur; four grandchildren, Cynthia Middleton of Michigan, Kristin Sawyer of Schenevus, Jeremy and James Sawyer of Decatur; one great-grandson, Court Middleton; a sister, Nellie Bush of Westford; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Walter McClintock of Worcester and a sister, Dorothy Rexroad of Worcester.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Worcester, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
There will be no calling hours.

George B. Odbert
COOPERSTOWN — George B. Odbert. 77, of Cooperstown, died early Monday morning, Sept. 20, 1999, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1922, in Detroit, Mich., a son of George T. and Mary (Berriman) Odbert.
He married Martha Zell in 1953, at Our Lady of Solace Church in Syracuse.
George spent his early years in Wellesley, Mass., graduating from The Clark School. He then attended Syracuse University, but was called to serve his country, in the United States Navy, during World War II. At the end of the war he returned to Syracuse University and received a bachelor's degree in psychology.
George led a life devoted to selling automobiles and was first employed by a dealership in Needham Heights, Mass. In 1956, he purchased a Ford dealership in Marcellus, and approximately 10 years later moved it to Skaneateles. George and his family moved to Cooperstown in 1976, when he purchased Iver Berry's dealership. From this dealership, known as Odbert's, George dealt in Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Cadillacs and GM Trucks until he closed it in 1994.
He was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, the New York State Auto Dealers Association, the Cooperstown Veterans Club and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. An avid baseball fan, he never gave up hope that the Boston Red Sox would one day win the pennant.
George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha, of Cooperstown; one daughter, Susan Grossman and her husband, Richard D., of Syracuse; two sons, George B. Odbert Jr. of Mount Vision and John F. Odbert of Manhattan; two grandsons, George B. Odbert III and John Odbert; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Mary Slamin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private.
At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
Francesca Messina
ONEONTA — Francesca Messina, 79, of Oneonta, died
Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home, where she has resided since January of this year.
She was born in Serra di Falco, Italy, on May 28, 1920, the daughter of Salvatore and Maria (Cali) Giardina.
Frances was first married in 1954, to Agostino Giardina, who died in 1961. On July 30, 1962, she married Gaetano Messina. He died on March 9, 1999.
For several years, retiring in 1982, Frances worked for the R&J Dress Company in Oneonta.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church, its Rosary Society, and the Italian American Club. Besides being an accomplished dressmaker, Frances also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Many in her family will hold fond memories of Frances, because she sponsored their entry into the United States.
Frances is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Carman Wiedeman of Oneonta; two grandchildren, Gaetano and Frances Wiedeman of Oneonta; four sisters and a brother, Giuseppa Avanzato of Oneonta, Carmela Vento and her husband, Rosario, of Oneonta, and Anna Turco, Diega Giardina and Gioacchino Giardina of Italy. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins in Oneonta and Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, after 3 p.m. today. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Dorothy I. Edwards
MILFORD — Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, 59, passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
She was born Aug. 16, 1940, in the town of Columbia, the daughter of Raymond and Eleanor (Gage) Harter.
On April 18, 1959, she married Vaughn Edwards in Millers Mills Baptist Church, Millers Mills; he survives.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Millers Mills Grange, N.Y.S. Historical Association, and the Millers Mills Baptist Church. She worked as a bookkeeper for the N.Y.S. Historical Association in Cooperstown for 32 years until retiring in 1997.
Survivors besides her husband, Vaughn Edwards of Milford, include two daughters, Terri L. Schrader of Baldwinsville and Tracie Edwards Farrell and Rick Farrell of Winston Salem, N.C.; a brother, Roy Harter of Richfield Springs; two sisters, Betty Jane Neale of Ilion and Helen Joan Taylor of West Winfield; three grandchildren, Megan and Kelly Schrader and Kayla Edwards.
She was predeceased by a son, Mark Edwards, in 1992.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Lauren House officiating. A committal service and burial will follow in the South Valley Cemetery, South Valley.

William S. Adsit Sr.
COOPERSTOWN — William S. Adsit Sr., 78, of Cooperstown, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 21, 1999, at Bassett Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1921, in Richfield Springs, a son of William B. and Miranda (Soeber) Adsit.
He married Josephine Marzeski on Sept. 14, 1947, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Richfield Springs.
Bill was the first male to graduate from the new Richfield Springs Central School with the Class of 1939. Following his graduation he joined the United States Navy, serving in the Hospital Corps for 3 ½ years in the South Pacific during World War II. In 1950, he graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy and that same year joined Albert Mechan in a partnership in the Church & Scott Pharmacy in Cooperstown. He retired in 1981, as its president. Bill will be remembered for his great love of baseball, especially his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. During his lifetime he enjoyed playing baseball, as well as coaching Little League teams.
He was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, the Clark F. Simmons Post 579 American Legion, and the Walter P. Eggleston Post 7128 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Cooperstown. He was also a member of the Native Sons of Cooperstown, the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce Merchants Committee, and the American Pharmaceutical Association. He was a former member of the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown, Cee Jay's Golf Course in Laurens, and the Cooperstown Booster Club, having served as its president in 1967.
Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Josephine; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Jr. and his wife, Michelle, and David and his wife, Susanne; and a daughter, Jane, all of Cooperstown; six beloved grandchildren, Creighton, Thomas, Connor, Phillip, Amie and Mitchell Adsit, all of Cooperstown; one sister, Bianca Van Slyke of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one brother and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.

Glen A. Lane
COOPERSTOWN — Glen A. Lane, 67, of Cooperstown, died Monday evening, Sept. 20, 1999, at Bassett Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 21, 1932, in Schenectady, a son of Marcus S. and Pearl (Parent) Lane.
He married Audree Smith on June 24, 1956, in Schenectady.
Glen grew up in Cooperstown, where he attended local schools. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the service, he was employed as an electrician in Schenectady. He returned to Cooperstown in 1959, and was employed by Gallup's Taxi. Following the death of Sherrill Woodbeck in 1975, Glen assumed ownership of the business, and retired in August 1999.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of' Cooperstown. Glen was an avid sports fan and had participated in area bowling leagues. He especially enjoyed hunting and watching old movies.
Glen is survived by his wife, Audree; two daughters, Nancy J. Lane and her special friend, Scott Mayhew, of Cooperstown and Lynn E. Ives and her fiance, Timothy Thayer, of Hartwick; two sons, Timothy S. Lane of Cooperstown and Glenn A. Lane and his fiancee, Melissa Brandt, of Cooperstown; two sisters, Audrey Phillips of Hartwick and Shirley Pratt of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Meagan, Nicole and Glenn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his aunt and adoptive mother, Dorothy Woodbeck and a sister, Carol Pucunas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas Burleigh, chaplain of Bassett Hospital, officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Cooperstown Veteran's Club and American Legion will follow in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. when Glen's family will be in attendance.

Alberta J. Yearry
ROSEBOOM — Mrs. Alberta J. Yearry, 64, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
She was born June 2, 1935, in Summit, the daughter of Albert and Eliza (Truax) VanBuren.
She married Leo Yearry in 1971, he predeceased her on June 17, 1975.
She lived in the Roseboom area for more than 30 years and enjoyed her flower garden.
Mrs. Yearry is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Michael (Carol) Stannard, Mrs. Terry (Rose) Yearry Roberts, Ms. Patricia Dinger and Mrs. Henry (Barbara) Beyer, all of Cherry Valley; one son, Mr. Leo Yearry Jr., and his wife, Pauline of Central Bridge; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the home of Alberta, 316 Hoose Rd., Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Alan Miller, pastor of the First Christian Church, South Valley, officiating, Following the service at her home there will be a scattering of cremains which was a request of Alberta's.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
Contributions in Mrs. Yearry's memory may be made to the First Christian Church, South Valley.

Doris J. Harris
BURLINGTON FLATS — Doris J. Harris, 73, of Burlington Flats, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls.
She was born March 24, 1926, at home in Burlington, the daughter of Arnold W. and Florence E. (Seifried) James.
She married Robert M. Harris on May 30, 1951, he predeceased her on Aug. 5, 1985.
Doris graduated valedictorian from Edmeston Central School. She was a member of the Burlington Flats First Baptist Church and served as treasurer for many years.
Doris enjoyed her garden and loved all her cats. Her top priority in life was her home and family.
Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ron Charles of Little Falls; her son, Richard A. Harris of Burlington Flats; her grandchildren, Erik J. Moss, Tammy and Ed Domion, all of Richfield; and Robert J. Harris and Ethan D. Harris, both of Burlington Flats; three step-grandchildren, Tami Pratt and her son, Justin, Sara Charles, and Pete Charles; three great-grandchildren, Thomas Domion, Keith Moss, and Tasha Rowe; two brothers, Lynn James and John James; one sister, Evelyn James; several cousins; and one aunt.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, with the Rev. Jay Henderson officiating. Calling hours are Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

F. Clifton Bellinger
PRATTSVILLE — F. Clifton "Pepa" Bellinger, 87, of 1 Maple Lane, Prattsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
He was born Oct. 16, 1911, in Middleburgh, the son of Frank and Laura (Hadsall) Bellinger.
He married Evelyn Reynolds on Nov. 21, 1948, in Delhi. Evelyn died Sept. 9, 1996.
Cliff was a lifelong area resident. When he was young he worked for a man who owned harness horses. They traveled the fair circuit and Cliff exercised the horses on the track before races. He also worked as a piano mover. Cliff's truck-driving career started with a chain driven AC Mack Bulldog truck with a canvas and wood cab with no heat or doors. He drove truck for the following people; Charles Moore (freight), Tuscan Dairies (dairy), Reggie Hill (freight), Joe Gallo (freight), Timberland (freight), Greendell (meat), Fort Edward Express, (cement), McQueer Trucking (milk), and Gene Haner (milk). Cliff retired in 1976.
He was a life member of the Prattsville Fire Department, he was a member of the Prattsville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Chauffeurs and Teamsters Union 182 of Utica and Central New York.
Cliff is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Robert Haskin of Gilboa and Marjorie and Russell Dames of Schenectady; five sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Christine Bellinger of Harpersfield, Robert and Carol Bellinger of Livingston, Ronald and Elaine Bellinger of Bradenton, Fla., Gordon and Emma Cornell of Prattsville, and Donald and Kendra Cornell of Gilboa; 32 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Greeley; a brother, Cecil, and a sister, Edith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at the Grand Gorge United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Nash officiating. Burial will take place in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville.
Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford at their convenience on Thursday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Warren Klingman
MOUNT UPTON — Warren G. Klingman, 78, of Mount Upton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born to the late George D. and Martha Eggler Klingman on April 21, 1921, in Honesdale, Pa.
Warren married Thelma Whitney on Nov. 25, 1942, in Sidney.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Warren was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney until he retired as a gauge inspector in 1984.
He was a member and past assistant chief of the Mount Upton Fire Department. Warren was a member of IAM & AW Union, Sidney. He was also involved in the Boy Scouts and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Warren is survived by his wife of 46 years, Thelma Klingman of Mount Upton; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Klingman of Mount Upton, John W. and Gloria Klingman of Sidney and Richard A. Klingman of Mount Upton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan M. and David Walker of Los Alamos, N.M., Mary L. and John Twitchell of Mount Upton and Ruth A. and Jerry Boyd of Osceola; brother and sister-in-law, George and Caryl Klingman of Otego; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Steve Banais of Portlandville; seven grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is also predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Bertram Zimmerman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at the United Methodist Church of Mount Upton, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mary Ann Linder, officiating.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Upton Emergency Squad in lieu of flowers.
