Mildred A. Hall
BOVINA — Mildred A. Hall, 89, of the Delhi area, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Delaware County Countryside Care.
She was born Oct. 2, 1909, in Downsville, the daughter of James and Mina (Fitch) Hitt.
She married Harold Hall in Delhi on Aug. 2, 1934. Mrs. Hall's home and family were her focus.
Survivors beside her husband of Delhi are two daughters, Anita Stewart of Texas and Carol Wilson of Ithaca; five sons, Gerald Hall of Delhi, Wesley Hall of Corfu, Donald Hall and Charles Hall of Hobart and Edward Hall of Oneida; a sister, Marion Griffin of Walton; and many grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Wayne Muckel, of the Delhi Alliance Fellowship Church, officiating. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Bovina Cemetery.
Contributions in Mrs. Hall's memory may be made to the Delhi Alliance Fellowship Church.

Carl J. Hendricks
DAVENPORT — Carl J. Hendricks, 74, of Butts Corners, Davenport, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, in Davenport.
He was born Aug. 11, 1924, in Albany, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Schoonbeck) Hendricks.
He married Helen Bauer in 1985, in Davenport.
Mr. Hendricks was a graduate of Milford High School and lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the 1st Calvary at Fort Riley, Kansas, and belonged to the American Legion of Milford, Post No. 1566. He was a cattle dealer in the area and will be remembered by his many friends for the woodworking shop that he operated. He organized a softball league in Oneonta and remained active in sports for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, at home; a daughter, Janye Hendricks of Florida; stepchildren, Barbara Burr of Oneonta, Carol Brownell of Walton, William Staiber of Boston, Mass., and Paul Staiber of Davenport; six grandchildren; and stepgrandchildren; and a brother, John Hendricks of Milford.
A sister, Marie, predeceased him.
A memorial service will take place at a later date at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport, with interment in the Davenport Center.
There will be no callling hours.

Niles F. Kirk Sr.
ONEONTA — Mr. Niles F. Kirk Sr., 81, of Oneonta, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born April 6, 1918, in Carbondale, Pa., the son of Hector and Marion (Hick) Kirk.
Niles had been married to the late Margarette Montgomery Kirk.
Niles was a yardman for the D&H Railroad, Oneonta, for 26 years. A lifelong area resident he enjoyed the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as working in his garden.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman.
Niles is survived by four daughters, Dolores Eichelberger of Oneonta, Eleanor Monroe of Oneonta, Agnes Lindsley of Oneonta and Ruth Grant of Oneonta; five sons, Elmer Eichler of Florida, Albert Eichler of Oneonta, Richard Eichler of Portlandville, Vernard Eichler of Oneonta and Bruce Eichler of Meridale; two brothers, William Kirk of Florida and Francis Wolfe of Milford; and two sisters, Betty Condon of Oneonta and Eleanor Scott of Callicoon, Pa. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sons, Niles Kirk Jr. and Robert Eichler; and a daughter, Shirley Ann Kirk.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Ira S. Neer
BAINBRIDGE — Ira S. Neer, 67, of Bainbridge, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, in Coventry.
He was born to the late Ira F. and Frances Emrick Neer on April 23, 1932, in Bovina.
Ira married Doretta May Borst on Aug. 22, 1952, in Bainbridge.
He was an independent caretaker of many local properties. Ira was an avid hunter and loved to fish.
Ira is survived by his wife, Doretta Neer of Bainbridge; his son, Huburt Neer and his companion, Sharon, of Sherburne; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Douglas Peck of Guilford; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Joann Neer of Deposit, Herbert and Carole Neer of Laurens and Harvey and Elaine Neer of Garrattsville; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Melvin Jennings of Sidney, Doris Omahan of Sidney, Pauline Wilson of Sidney, Shirley Woods of Stamford and Edie and Donald Griffith of Otego; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and in-laws, Betty and Ernie Cusson of Cortland and Stan and Millie Borst of Unadilla.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Mary Ann Linder, of United Methodist Church, Mount Upton, and the Rev. Thomas Flanders, of the Circle Drive Christian Alliance Church, officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Conventry Emergency Squad.

Joseph Reiss
MORRIS — Joseph Reiss, 76, of Morris, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
He was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Spring Lake, N.J., the son of George Joseph Reiss and Mary (Leroy) Reiss.
He was married to Elizabeth Hughes on Dec. 6, 1969, in Elkton, Md.
He had worked for Oil Delivery Inc., of Red Bank, N.J., for more than 21 years and after his retirement he then worked as a maintenance worker for the National Park Service at Sandy Hook, N.J.
He was a former member and past commander of the Atlantic/Highland American Legion Post No. 1411 and a charter member and quartermaster of the VFW Post No. 1417 of Morris. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Joe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Reiss of Morris; two daughters, Mary Reiss Foster of Bricktown, N.J., and Robin Lynn Reiss of Gilberstville; seven sons, Joseph Reiss Jr. of Kelso, Wash., David Reiss of Sioux City, Neb., Mark Reiss of Castle Rock, Wash., John Joseph Reiss of Morris, Gerald Johnson of Desert Spring, Calif., Thomas Johnson of Ithaca and William Johnson of Garner, N.C.; and 15 grandchildren; one sister, Mary White of Sioux City, Iowa.
The family will receive friends at the Morris VFW Hall located on Route 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Joseph Reiss family to help defray expenses.

Agnes Skala
ONEONTA — Miss Agnes Skala, 87, of Oneonta, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Chatham, the daughter of Frank and Susan (Eastwood) Skala.
Agnes was a hairdresser for more than 50 years and operated Skala's Beauty Shop in Chatham. She lived in Chatham and the Long Island area most of her life. She moved from Chatham to live in Laurens with her niece Susan Pagillo in 1994.
Agnes is survived by a sister-in-law, Nettie Skala of Connecticut. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at the Elm Row Cemetery, Laurens, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, officiating. Miss Skala will be cremated and her cremains will be buried in Elm Row Cemetery, Laurens.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

Marian F. Skelly
DELHI — Marian F. Skelly, 98, of Delhi and formerly of Sidney, passed away Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Countryside Care Facility, Delhi.
She was born to the late George A. and Frances Tiffany Stilson on Nov. 7, 1900, in Unadilla.
Marian married James Skelly on June 4, 1931, in Scanton, Pa. He predeceased her on Sept. 26, 1972.
Marian was a member of the Bridge Club and the first Congregational Church in Sidney. She also resided in Johnson City for a short time.
Marian is survived by nephews, Richard and Peggy Stilson of Sidney and John and Nancy Meek of Greenwich; nieces, Frances and William Brizzee of Almagordo, N.M., and Darlene and Howard Stilson of Mount Upton; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Lynn Stilson; and two sisters, Shirley Meek and Maude Soden.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. Mr. Gary Stilson, a great-nephew, will officiate.
Friends may call Tuesday, Aug. 10, the family will be in attendance from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Lawrence Stineford
ONEONTA — Lawrence R. Stineford, 81, of Oneonta, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born in East Pepperell, Mass., on May 14, 1918, the son of Charles H. Stineford and Georgia L. Stratton.
He married Elizabeth Piretti on May 11, 1939, in Canaan, Conn.
Lawrence was a World War II veteran who served with the United States Navy. He was employed as a stationary engineer in the Power House at the State University College at Oneonta, until his retirement in 1980. His great loves were family, hunting, fishing and baseball.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mindy Stineford of Oneonta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Wootton of Evansville, Ind., and Georgia and Donald Peet of Scarborough, Maine; one sister, Dorothy Walls of Sayre, Pa.; two brothers, Charles Stineford of Indio, Calif., and Bernard Stineford of Salem, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Irene Stineford.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private memorial service will be held for the family in Connecticut at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice in his memory.
Earl B. Aldrich
GOODYEAR LAKE — Earl B. Aldrich, 70, formerly of Laurens, died Monday morning, Aug. 9, 1999, at his home in Goodyear Lake.
Earl was born April 28, 1929, in Oneonta, the son of Boyd and Gertrude (Niles) Aldrich.
He married Barbara Faulkner on Dec. 18, 1953, in Laurens.
He owned and operated the Maple Grove Dairy farm in Laurens, which has been owned by his family since 1906.
Earl graduated from Laurens High School and received a degree in animal husbandry from the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Colbeskill.
Earl was a member of the Laurens Volunteer Fire Department for 48 years and served as fire chief for 19 years. He belonged to the Otsego County Fire Advisory Board and fire chief's association. He was Otsego County Fireman of the Year in 1992, and Laurens Fireman of the Year in 1987.
He was a past director of MOSA. Earl was a member of the Laurens Lodge 548 F&AM and was past Master and secretary of the lodge for 23 years. He was District Deputy Grand Master of the Otsego Schoharie Masonic District in 1987. He belonged to the Scottish Rite and the Oneonta Lodge of Perfection. He was president of the Masonic District Association. Earl was a member of Laurens Chapter 518 Order of the Eastern Star serving as Patron, for many years. District Grand Lecturer of the Otsego Schoharie District of the OES in 1994. He was grand patron of the New York State OES in 1998. He was a member, elder and trustee of the Laurens United Presbyterian Church. Earl enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, computers and boating.
Earl is survived by his wife, Barbara Aldrich of Goodyear Lake; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Janet Aldrich; and a son, Bruce Aldrich of Laurens; four grandchildren, Stacy, Cindy, Stephanie and Holly Aldrich of Laurens; his mother, Gertrude Aldrich of Laurens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Phyllis Aldrich of Varysburg and Wayne and Flossie Aldrich of New Berlin; two aunts, Carrie Aldrich of Davenport Center and Margaret Niles of New Jersey; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services and a fireman's service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at the Laurens United Presbyterian Church, Laurens, with the Rev. Harry Myers, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Cook Cemetery in West Oneonta. The family will receive friends at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Tuesay evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. The Laurens Lodge 548 F&AM will hold a Ritualistic Service 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marguerite D. Morris
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Marguerite D. (Dolly) Morris, 74, of Hyde Park, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 8, 1999, at her home.
She was born on May 23, 1925, in Oneonta, a daughter of Viggo and Bessie (Card) Larsen.
She married Kenneth C. Morris Sr. on May 1, 1948, in Mount Vision. Mr. Morris died on Jan. 30, 1997.
Dolly was raised in the Mount Vision area and graduated from Laurens Central School in 1944. She went on to study nursing at the State University College of Technology at Delhi, graduating in 1945. For the next 35 years Dolly was employed at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown as a licensed practical nurse. She will be remembered for the many years she worked on the pediatric floors.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vision, a member and past president of the Hartwick No. 2 Fire Auxiliary and a 4-H leader in Hartwick Seminary. After retiring from nursing in 1987, she volunteered at The Meadows.
Dolly and her husband, Ken, enjoyed spending winters at their home in Zephyrhills, Fla., and summers at their home in Hyde Park. She will be rememberd for her boundless energy, compassion and giving qualities.
Dolly is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth C. Jr. and Elizabeth Morris of Fly Creek; her grandchildren, Katherine and Kyle Morris of Hartwick and Fly Creek; her sister and brother-in-law, Ida Mae and Herman Bridger of Cooperstown and Zephyrhills, Fla.; her sisters-in-law, Jean Larsen of Oneonta, Joan Larsen of Cooperstown and Martha Morris of Newberry, Fla.; her lifelong friends, Thelma and Robert Bailey of Cooperstown; and several loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth C. Morris Sr.; her son, John C. Morris; and her brothers, Carl A. Larsen and Kenneth F. Larsen.
Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, 1999, from 10 a.m. until service time, when Dolly's family will be in atttendance.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas C. Smith, rector of Christ Church in Cooperstown officiating. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family, in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Susan P. Gould
COOPERSTOWN — Susan P. Gould died peacefully at her home in Cooperstown on Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, following a prolonged battle against breast cancer.
She was born on March 3, 1937, in Chicago to Susie (Singleton) and Burford L. Porter.
She graduated from Garrison Forest School and Briarcliff Junior College. Following her graduation she worked in New York City for a commercial advertising agency.
On Nov. 29, 1958, she married John D.B. Gould in Lake Forest, Ill. Following their marriage, she and her husband lived in the Philadelphia, Pa., vicinity, Far Hills, N.J., Denver, Colo., and from 1975-1996 in Colorado Springs, Colo. While living in Colorado Springs, she served on the board of trustees of The Fountain Valley School and the Joseph Henry Edmundston Foundation. She was an active member of the Broadmoor Garden Club and Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Manitou Springs. In addition, she participated in numerous volunteer activities encompassing the training and education of people with developmental disabilities.
Susan is survived by her mother, Susie S. Love at Lake Forest, Ill.; her husband, John D.B. Gould of Cooperstown; three sons, James S.P. of Pinecrest, Fla., B.L. Porter of Rosemont, Pa., and David B.L. of Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Holly of Edmeston; and six grandchildren.
She was a joyful and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, Canon Avenue and Manitou Avenue, Manitou Springs, Colo., with the Rev. Myrna Bevens officiating. An interment and reception will follow the service at the Columbarium at Chapel of Our Saviour, 4th Street and Polo Drive, Colorado Springs, Colo. A memorial service will also be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Cooperstown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pathfinder Village, 3 Chenango Rd., Edmeston, N.Y. 13335, a residential facility for people with Down Syndrome.

Milan Cerny
CHERRY VALLEY — Milan Cerny, 69, of Genesee Street, Cherry Valley, and formerly of Hartwick, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1929, in Recany nad Lubem, Parolubice District, Czechoslovakia, a son of Jan and Vlasta (Jancikova) Cerny.
Mr. Cerny was raised and educated in Czechoslovakia, came to the United States in 1969, and became a citizen in 1978. He spent most of his career in the area of foreign currency exchange and was employed by Chase Manahattan Bank in New York City. Upon his retirement he moved to the Hartwick area and was a former associate member of the Hartwick Veterans Club.
Milan is survived by one brother, Cestmir Cerny of Czechoslovakia.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, officiating.

Thomas E. Wolcott
OXFORD — Thomas E. Wolcott, 81, formerly of Sidney, passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.
He was born to the late Edward and Sarah Wolcott on Dec. 1, 1917, in Hamden.
Thomas served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
He was employed at E.C.D. of Bendix and retired from Keith Clark of Sidney.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Melissa Wolcott of Oxford; son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Sharon Wolcott of Sidney; daughters, Nancy Wolcott of Sidney and Sue Lieberman of Hancock; brother, John Wolcott; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at 2 p.m. in Walton Cemetery, Walton, with the Rev. Harold Lefler of Sidney, officiating. Friends may call Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

John A. Every
HEMET, Calif. — Graveside services for John A. Every of Hemet, Calif., a retired Air Force master sergeant, were held in Riverside National Cemetery, Calif., on July 29, 1999.
He died July 25, 1999, after a long illness of lyme disease.
He was born on Jan. 30, 1931, son of Richard L. and Florence B. Every of Davenport Center, N.Y.
He lived in Hemet, Calif., for the past 27 years, after serving 22 years in the Air Force, one year in Vietnam.
He married Eleanor Gray of East Meredith, N.Y., in 1951. She passed away in 1989. He married Rusty Sherlock who survives.
He has four children, John A. Jr. of Hemet, Calif., Gary of Colorado, Denise Every and Donna Small of Ventura, Calif.; a brother, Dick of San Jacinto, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
