Robert W. Baker
NEW BERLIN — Robert W. Baker, 51, of New Berlin, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Sept. 4, 1947, to the late Gerald L. Baker and Mildred Gage Baker in Norwich.

Robert married Jayne Storrs on June 19, 1971, in New Berlin.

He was the owner of the Outback Store in New Berlin and a co-family care provider.

Robert was the founder of the New Berlin Business Association, officer of the New Berlin Housing and Preservation Association, past president of Opportunities for Chenango, past president of Special Olympics Region 13, co-founder of Family Care Provider Families and Consumers Advocacy Council, American Red Cross area coordinator, co-founder of Coming Together Memorial Foundation, and a member of the National Family Care Provider Council, chairman of Youth Days and a business mentor.

Robert was a loving father to Erin Nicole Baker of New Berlin; and is survived by his wife, Jayne Baker of New Berlin; his mother, Mildred Baker of Mount Upton; fraternal grandmother, Luella Baker of New Berlin; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald L. Baker of Lake Worth, Fla., Donald C. and Diane Baker of Mount Upton and James L. and Alice Baker of Mount Upton; two sisters, Patricia Kukulech of New Berlin and Teresa Baker of South New Berlin; sister-in-law and her husband, Grace and Ron Lloyd of New Berlin; The Baker Boys; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Steven R. Baker.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 28, 1999, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 1 p.m.

Friends may call Sunday, June 27, 1999, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics or charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Robert A. Reynolds
HUDSON, Fla. — Robert Allen Reynolds, 81, died Saturday afternoon, May 22, 1999, at the National Health Care Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.

Like an ancient warrior returning to his mountain lair of a final resting place overlooking the sleepy Susquehanna River as it meanders its way through the hills, Bob has come home.

Bob was born May 15, 1918, in the upstairs bedroom at his parent's home at 64 Maple St., Oneonta. He attended grade and high school in Oneonta, graduating in 1936. He continued his education, graduating from Hartwick College in 1940.

Bob served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and left the service as a highly trained electronic and radar officer at the rank of first lieutenant. While in the service he married Rosette Frochlistein and they had one son, Robert A. Reynolds Jr., born in 1945.

Bob taught high school science and math at Unadilla and Cairo Central School. He earned his master's of science in education at Syracuse University in 1953, and went to work for IBM, Kingston, in 1955, retiring in 1974.

He and Rose moved to Florida in 1980, and lived happily until her death in 1996. Bob remarried Edith Sullivan Daily on May 2, 1998.

Bob is survived by Edith, Bob Jr., and his two grandchildren, Jessica Susan and Christopher Scott Reynolds; as well as his sister, Mrs. Dorothy R. Eckhardt of Baldwin, Long Island.

The Rev. Kenneth Graham will hold a graveside service at the Glenwood Cemetery on Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at 11 a.m. All friends and relatives are invited to this service.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Iva F. Dayger
EDMESTON — Iva F. Dayger, 85, of Edmeston and formerly of Cortland, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at her home in Edmeston.

She was born July 2, 1913, in Cold Brook, the daughter of Oral and Minnie (Philips) French.

She married Leon H. Dayger on July 3, 1935, in Truxton. He predeceased her in 1996.

Iva is survived by her daughter, Mary Jain Dayger of Edmeston; her sister, Mrs. Fay Bailey of Syracuse; her brother, Elmer "Coy" French of Cortland; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, with Carol Lewis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Iva's memory to either the Edmeston Emergency Squad or the Edmeston Arts and Education Program, care of Edmeston Central School.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Isabell L. Robinson
FRANKLIN — Isabell LaVonne Robinson, 70, of Franklin, died Thursday afternoon at her residence after a 20-year, courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

She was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Cannonsville, the daughter of Charles and Laura Roof.

She married Howard E. Robinson on Oct. 12, 1974, in Franklin.

Isabell was a 1945 graduate of the Deposit Central School. She was a great lover of the outdoors, and was considered by many an expert marksman. A longtime active farm wife in Sidney Center, Isabell was a member of the Home Bureau and the Farm Bureau, a 4-H leader, past secretary and president of the Southern Tier Ayrshire Club, the Eastern Star and the Delaware Valley Agricultural Society. She will be remembered by many as the lady who sold tickets at the grandstand at the Delaware County Fair.

She was a former member of the Masonville Federated Church and currently was a member of the Franklin Community Bible Church.

Isabell is survived by her husband, Howard E. Robinson of Franklin; her daughters, Barbara Rosa and her special friend, Dan Horton, of Walton and Cecelia Northrup and her husband, Richard, of Walton; her grandchildren, Duane Rosa and his wife, Kelly, of Leesburg, Va., Kristie (Rosa) Polomcean and her husband, Scott, of Trout Creek, Melissa and Bridgett Kilmer of Utica and Matthew Northrup of Walton; one stepson, Edward Robinson and his son, Lance, of Richmond, Ky.; a sister, Edna Waldron of Chicopee, Mass.; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Roof of Hale Eddy.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, many of whom had resided with her for some time during their growing-up years. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald Lloyd Francisco, and her siblings, Arthur Roof, Evelyn Gardepe, Austin Demeree, Nellie Sawdy, Bessie Muir, Charlotte Parsons, George Chilson, Martiea Roof and Wilford Roof.

A funeral service will be held Monday, June 28, 1999, at 1 p.m. in the Franklin Community Bible Church with the Rev. Craig Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends may call at the Kenneth L. Bennet Funeral Home, Franklin, on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad or the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Fred B. Bryson
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Fred B. Bryson DDS, 91, born Oct. 13, 1907, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Oneonta

He was born in Watsontown, Pa., to Julia and Forrest Bryson and he moved to Gettysburg, Pa. to practice dentistry after graduation from Bucknell and Temple University.

He served in World War II in the Navy. He was a member of the Elks VFW and the Gettysburg Country Club.

After retirement he moved to Davie, Fla., his wife Dorothy died Dec. 24, 1997.

Fred is survived by two daughters, Barbara Means of Otego, and Bonnie Simms of Hunter; four grandchildren; and eight great-granchildren.

Arrangements are by Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main St., Hunter.

Bryce A. Cairns
BAINBRIDGE — Bryce A. Cairns, 50, of Bainbridge passed away Friday, June 25, 1999, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born Aug. 2, 1948, to the late Walter and Vivian Youngs Cairns in Bainbridge.

Bryce graduated from Bainbridge-Guilford Central School, then served his country in the United States Navy, Norfolk, Va.

He was employed by At-A-Glance in Sidney. Bryce was past president of Bainbridge Rotary Club and a member of the Bainbridge Fire Department.

He loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bryce is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Cairns of Bainbridge; two daughters and son-in-laws, Corrine and Keith Hanvey of Mount Upton and Teri and Lyle Cline of Norwich; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Patti Cairns of Minot, N.D.; two grandchildren, Meghan and Kyle Hanvey; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Linda and Milt Georgia of Greene and Nancy and Ed Sloan of Greene; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Nancy Cairns of Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, officiating, at 11 a.m.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bainbridge Emergency Squad or the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Mildred A.G. Davis
STAMFORD — Mildred A.G. Davis, 89, of Stamford died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born March 14, 1910, at Goulds, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Rickard) Hendricks.

Mildred was married to James Simmons and later to Joseph Davis, who have both predeceased her.

During her life she had lived in Stamford, Oneonta and Hancock. She was a member of the Emory United Methodist Church at Hancock.

Mildred is survived by a daughter, Beryl C. Murphy of Hobart; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Simmons of Stamford; a son-in-law, Bill Lauer of Haines City, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; stepsons, Paul and Gordon Davis; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her children, Dorothy Ruth, Anita Lauer and Mike Simmons.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford with the Rev. Richard Elder, pastor of the Hobart United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will be in the Stamford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience Tuesday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance Tuesday evening, between 7 and 9, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Mildred's memory to the Hancock Rescue Squad, Hancock, N.Y. 13783.

Arrangements are by the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Grace W. Smith-Armstrong
TROUT CREEK — Grace W. Smith-Armstrong, 81, a longtime resident of Trout Creek, died unexpectedly on Friday afternoon, June 25, 1999, at her home on Route 206 in Trout Creek.

She was the daughter of Edward Everett and Beulah (Higley) Filer and was born on June 16, 1918, in the town of Tompkins.

She married Kenneth Smith in 1937, in Treadwell, who predeceased her on May 5, 1976, and then married Lawrence Armstrong in Trout Creek, who predceased her in February 1995.

She was a member of the Trout Creek Community Church and its Ladies Auxiliary. She was a retired dairy farmer, a retired employee of Kayser Silk Mill and Bendix Aviation.

Grace is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Dawn Smith of Trout Creek; two grandchildren, Denny Smith of Sidney and Dawna Smith of Trout Creek; a sister-in-law, Rhetha Filer-Mauro of Trout Creek.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Everett Filer in 1987.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc., Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, with the Rev. David Gatje, pastor of her church, officiating. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trout Creek Community Church or Trout Creek Emergency Squad or Trout Creek Fire Department in her memory.

Arrangements are by the Lyon Bros.-Way Inc., Funeral Home, Walton.

Helen Tidd Baxter
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Helen Tidd Baxter, 99, of Lakeview Drive South, Cooperstown, and Golden Gate Point in Sarasota, Fla., died Sunday afternoon, June 27, 1999, at her home in Cooperstown.

She was born on Jan. 31, 1900, in Taylor, Pa., a daughter of William J. and Ada (Farrington) Tidd.

She married John H. Baxter on March 28, 1923, in Taylor, Pa. Mr. Baxter died on Nov. 20, 1979.

Mrs. Baxter graduated from Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pa., and taught in Taylor, Pa. She later moved to Scranton, Pa., and in 1930, relocated to Utica. Since 1956, Mrs. Baxter has made her home in Cooperstown and has spent her winters in Florida.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Utica and at one time served as president of the Women of Kiwanis in Utica. Mrs. Baxter was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Taylor, Pa., the Yahnundasis Country Club in New Hartford and the Leatherstocking Golf Club in Cooperstown.

Mrs. Baxter's family wishes to thank everyone from Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, her private caregivers, and her many friends in both Cooperstown and Sarasota, Fla., for all their loving care during the past few months.

Mrs. Baxter is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack T. and Ruth Baxter; her granddaughter, Katharine B. Visser; her grandson, Robert T. Baxter, all of New Hartford; and her two great-grandsons, Jared J. Visser and Tyler E. Visser.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert F. Tidd and William R. Tidd.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 1999, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Lin R. Quinlan, co-pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, officiating. Burial will be private on Friday, July 2, 1999, in the Shady Lane Cemetery in Chinchilla, Pa.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Arthur Wedderspoon
COOPERSTOWN — Arthur M. "Bud" Wedderspoon, 82, of Pierstown, died early Monday morning, June 28, 1999, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1916, in Pierstown, a son of James R. and May (Allen) Wedderspoon.

He married Virginia E. Kenney on May 14, 1950, in Cooperstown. Ginny died on Jan. 6, 1997.

Bud attended district schools in Pierstown and in his earlier years was employed by the Clark Estates and the Otsego Textile Mill, both in Cooperstown, and the Waterville Textile Mill in Waterville. For 40 years, Bud and Ginny operated the family dairy farm in Pierstown, until their retirement in 1989.

Bud especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid reader and gardener. He was a longtime member of Otsego Lodge No. 138, Free and Accepted Masons in Cooperstown.

Bud is survived by three daughters, Judy Dennis and Brenda Wedderspoon, both of Cooperstown, and Debbie Selan of Fly Creek; two sons, Cary M. Wedderspoon and Bruce A. Wedderspoon, both of Cooperstown; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Nola Osterhoudt of Leesville and Sis Sydelko of Horseheads; a brother, Carl Wedderspoon of Cresco, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, James A. Wedderspoon.

Graveside services and burial will be private, at the convenience of the family, in the Springfield Center Cemetery.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or the American Cancer Society, Southern District Office, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905-4797.

Dolores Theriault
MAMARONECK — Mrs. Dolores Theriault, 56, of Mamaroneck and Cooperstown, died Saturday evening, June 26, 1999, at New York Medical United Hospital in Port Chester, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1943, in Yonkers, the daughter of John and Beatrice Miller.

She married Joseph A. Theriault on June 10, 1967, in Mamaroneck.

Mrs. Theriault graduated from Bellows High School and later became a nurse's aide at New York Medical United Hospital in Port Chester. For the past 26 years she has made her summer residence in Cooperstown.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Springfield Center and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Theriault is survived by her husband of 32 years, Joseph; three daughters, Joanne O'Brien of Cooperstown, Patricia Theriault of Carmel and Allison Cacciola of Port Chester; four grandchildren; her mother, Beatrice Miller; one brother, Albert Miller of the state of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 1999, in the Theriault Family lot in Lakewood Cemetery in Cooperstown with the Rev. Santino J. Titta, pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Springfield Center, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Adam V. Billek
BLOOMVILLE — Adam V. Billek, 73, of Bloomville, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Bayonne, N.J., the son of Adam and Mary (Mirowski) Billek.

His first wife Louise Anderson and he were married May 15, 1946, and she passed away in 1984. Mr. Billek then married Sophie Slavinski in New Jersey on Dec. 15, 1984.

Adam was a truck driver in New York City for the Skinners Nuts Inc.

He enjoyed baseball, playing the accordion and dancing. Memberships included a communicant of the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus in South Kortright and American Legion Post No. 190 in Delhi.

Adam is survived by his wife, Sophie of Bloomville; two sons, Adam B. Billek of Bloomville and James Billek of Colorado; a daughter, Susan DeMarta of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren.

A funeral Mass will take place Thursday, July 1, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus with the Rev. Fr. John Burns officiating. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 30, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, South Kortright.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Ianthe Manzelli
PORTLANDVILLE — Mrs. Ianthe Manzelli, 88, of Portlandville, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at The Meadows, Middlefield.

She was born Dec. 13, 1910, in Jamaica, West Indies, the daughter of Hubert Davidson and Agnes Rosalie (Hibbert) Blair.

Ianthe was married to the late Felice Manzelli.

Ianthe was a nutritionist at the Brooklyn Hospital and the Jewish Home and Hospital in Manhattan, New York City, at one time. Before coming to the United States, she taught school in Jamaica, West Indies. She attended college at the Shortwood Teachers College in Kingston, Jamaica, and Columbia University. She had been a resident of the Bronx, before moving to this area in May 1990. Ianthe was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Ianthe is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hazel M. McShane of Portlandville and Mrs. Kathleen Knight of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and two nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman, of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 1999, at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx.

There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.
