Gladys Banner
ONEONTA — Mrs. Gladys Florence Banner, 70, of Oneonta, died Wednesday morning, March 31, 1999, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
She was born Aug. 19, 1928, the daughter of Vernor and Florence (Brainard) Cornell.
She married E. Ferris Banner on Sept. 28, 1946, in Oneonta.
She was a waitress and hostess at Brook's House of Barbecue and was the housekeeping supervisor at the Holiday Inn.
Gladys enjoyed working in her flower gardens and cross-stitching, but most of all she cherished her time spent with her granddaughters and her dog, Boomer.
Gladys is survived by her husband of 52 years, E. Ferris Banner of Milford Center; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Fred Maloof; and a son, Duane Banner, and his fiancee, Marge Crawford, of Milford Center; four granddaughters, Star Banner of Oneonta, Wendy Chase, Tracy Chase and her fiance, David Ross, and Deanna Maloof of Milford Center; a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and June Cornell of Zephryhills, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Fanchion Cornell of North Blenheim, and Marjorie Van Buren and Shirely Banner of Oneonta; two stepbrothers, Ray and Eugene Orchard of New Jersey; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Vernor and Florence Cornell; a stepmother, Bertha Orchard Cornell; a brother, Lyndon Cornell; sister-in-law, Betty Monser; and three brothers-in-law, Carl Banner, Byron Van Buren and Jerry Monser.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May, 7, 1999, at the Milford Cemetery, Milford, with the Rev. Douglas Burleigh, Protestant chaplain of Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 3, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

Lloyd G. Althiser Sr.
NEW LISBON — Lloyd G. Althiser Sr., 74, of New Lisbon, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at his residence.
He was born July 17, 1924, in Acrondale, the son of Jacob and Elsie (Kilmer) Althiser.
He was married to Anna Matula.
Lloyd resided in New Lisbon for 30 years. He worked for NYSDOT in Oneonta as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1991.
Lloyd is survived by seven children, Gereald Althiser of Cherry Valley, Sharon Stack of Denver, N.C., Linda Bellefeuille of Hillsborough, N.C., Lloyd G. Althiser Jr. of Prineville, Ore., Paul Althiser of Creedmord, N.C., Lawrence Althiser of Gilbertsville and Julia Kristofik of Garner, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Molly Zullo of Hillsdale, Elsie Thorpe of Menands, Eleanor Race of Albany and Phyllis Hubbard of Schenevus; two brothers, Rae Althiser Sr. of Schenevus and Jacob Althiser of Schenectady; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Natalie Kline and Ruth Althiser, and three brothers, Charles, Roy J. Sr. and Henry Althiser.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, April 5, 1999, at the E.J. Skinner Co., Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw, pastor of the Schenevus Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.
Calling hours will be Saturday, April 3, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with the family in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel in Worcester.

Lois McMurray
MARGARETVILLE — Mrs. John (Lois) McMurray, 68, of Margaretville, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at home.
She was born March 6, 1931, in Margaretville, the daughter of John Vermilyea and Mary Dickman.
She was married Aug. 29, 1948, to John McMurray in New Kingston at the Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. McMurray had been a clerk at L. Bussy and Co. of Margaretville. Later she worked at other area businesses.
She lived in the Margaretville area all of her life.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and birds and wildlife.
Lois is survived by her husband, John McMurray at home; two daughters, Jean Ackerley of Margaretville and Karen McMurray and Neal Pekrul of Margaretville; her brother, Edwin Vermilyea of Arkville; her half brother, Nelson Vermilyea of Liverpool; grandsons, Shane, David and Robin Davis of Highmount and Robert and wife, Nomie, of Orange City, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Shawn, Jordan and Aaron; aunt, Ruth Dickman of Margaretville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. S. Hayden Walsh, of the Advent Christian Church, Margaretville, officiating.
Burial will be in the Sanford Cemetery, Margaretville.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Kenneth O. Davis II
SIDNEY — Kenneth O. Davis II, 67, of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in Sanford, Fla.
He was born to the late Kenneth O. and Virginia (Carroll) Davis Sr., on June 5, 1931, in Walton.
K.O. served his country in the United States Navy from 1950-1954.
He married Alberta E. Brewer on June 6, 1953, in Sanford, Fla.
K.O. graduated from the Scintilla Apprentice Tool Designer Program and was a tool designer at E.C.D. of Bendix from 1954 until he retired in 1986.
K.O. was a member of the Rockdale Rod and Gun Club and a member of the United Methodist Church, Sidney.
K.O. is survived by his loving wife, Alberta E. Davis of Sidney; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Daniel Lynch of Sidney and Theresa and Rick Landers of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Kenneth O. Davis III of Sidney and Dennis Davis of Salem, Mass.; one sister, Henrietta Booth of Rockdale; four wonderful grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 6, 1999, from the United Methodist Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Masland officiating.
Friends may call Monday, April 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Fire Department or the United Methodist Church of Sidney.

Marie I. Martin
HOBART — Marie I. Martin, 95, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in Cobleskill.
She was born Oct. 7, 1903, the daughter of Lambert and Lola (Hollenbeck) Sternberg in North Harpersfield.
She married the late Ward Martin on April 9, 1921, in Hobart. He died on Nov. 15, 1968.
She was a mother and housewife in the Hobart area all her life.
Mrs. Martin is survived by a son, Willard P. of Richmondville; a son, Lambert A. of Decatur, Ala.; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. and Sandra of Edgewater Park, N.J.; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen M. and Larry K. Kelly of Delhi and Genevieve and Ed Zimmerman of Stamford; son-in-law, Ed Cole of Fultonville; a daughter-in-law, Lucille Martin of Merritt Island, Fla.; her brothers, Ernest Sternberg of Otego and Paul Sternberg of Cobleskill; a sister, Evelyn Van Buren of Summit; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Madeline Cole; a son, Donald V. Martin; and four brothers, predeceased her.
At her request there will be no calling hours. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Hobart Emergency Squad.

Mina Weir Teetsel
ONEONTA — Mrs. Mina Weir Teetsel, 83, of Oneonta, died Thursday morning, April 1, 1999, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 13, 1915, in Oneonta, the daughter of Clarence and Grace M. (Dyer) Mawhinney.
Mrs. Teetsel married Alfred J. Weir in 1939, at Milford Center. She married Harry J. Teetsel Jr. in 1973.
She was a retired custodian from State University College at Oneonta having retired in 1974.
She was a parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church of Oneonta. She was a member of New York State Civil Service Employees Association, Oneonta Business Women's Club, N.R.T.A. and AARP.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carole F. and Warren Schuman of Oneonta; a son, Dennis J. Weir of South Glastonburg, Conn.; grandchildren, Eric W. Schuman, Catherine C. Schuman, Benjamin M. Weir and Stephen John and Alegra Weir; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Mrs. Teetsel's request there will be no funeral service or calling hours. She will be cremated at Hillington Crematory in Morris and her cremains will be buried at Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.
Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.
Paul H. Petrishen
JEFFERSON — Paul H. Petrishen Jr., 56, of Mason Road, Jefferson, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born April 21, 1942 at Hobart, the son of Paul and Marian (Crosby) Petrishen.
Paul was married to Mary Fuller on May 28, 1994, at Jefferson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Paul was a truck driver by trade and was currently employed by the C.O.D. Fuel Oil Company of Cobleskill.
Paul was a Stamford-area resident all of his life. He attended Stamford Central School and was a 30-year member of the Stamford Fire Department, where he was a former chief. He was a founding member of the R.A. Robinson Rescue Squad in Stamford and a member of the former St. Andrews Lodge, F&AM, Hobart. Paul enjoyed photography and golf.
Paul is survived by his wife, Mary E. Petrishen of Jefferson; his mother, Marian Petrishen of Stamford; sons and daughter-in-law, Tim and Deb Petrishen of Greeley, Colo., Jim Petrishen of DeQueen, Ark., Mark Petrishen of Harmony, N.C., and Michael Petrishen of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Pamela House of Albany.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Kenneth Crosby, of Laurens, officiating. The burial will be at the Stamford Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford at their convenience Monday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 2 and 4 and 7 and 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Marie Wheeler
ONEONTA — Mrs. Marie Wheeler, 82, of Oneonta, died Wednesday evening, March 31, 1999, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home.
She was born May 20, 1916, in Port Jervis, the daughter of Thomas and Helen Mae (Sutton) Vandermark.
She married Leonard Wheeler on March 26, 1940.
Marie was a graduate of Oneonta High School in 1934, and in 1937, a graduate of Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse.
She was employed at Parshall Hospital, Oneonta, 1937-1940. Along with her husband she owned and operated Wheeler Nursing Home in Oneonta from 1942-1962. She was a registered nurse at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital from 1962-1977. From 1979 to 1989, she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Marie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Douglas Bush of Mount Vision; a son, Richard Wheeler of Laurens; five stepchildren, Leonard and Helen Wheeler Jr. of Somers, Conn., Burrell and Carol Wheeler of Morris, Ethel and Doc Knapp of Oneonta, Jesse and Ruth Wheeler of South Kortright and Nancy Angellotti of Albany; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Leonard Wheeler; and two sisters, Helen Riddell and Margaret Hopkins.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Stephen Bicknell, pastor of the Mount Vision Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Mrs. Wheeler will be vaulted in the Bookhout private vault until burial in the spring at Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 1999.

William Stevens Sr.
OTEGO — William B. Stevens Sr., 78, of Otego, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Samuel S. Stratton Veterans Hospital, Albany.
He was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Oneonta, the son of Irving and Minerva (Johnson) Stevens.
He married Edna Woodruff in 1942 at Schenevus.
He was a United State Army veteran of World War II.
He was employed for more than 37 years by Eastern Steel Metal of Oneonta.
Bill loved camping, fishing and gardening with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edna Stevens of Otego; five sons and two daughters-in-law, William Stevens Jr. of Florida, Carl and Norma Stevens of Leonardsville, Richard and Kim Stevens of Sidney Center, LeRoy Stevens of Unadilla and Harold Stevens of Oneonta; four daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Dave Stevens of Unadilla, Rose Ann and Tim O'Dell of Latham, Cindy and Richard DiLeena of Unadilla and Florence Grant of Unadilla; one sister, Florence Washburn of Kingston; 30 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Stevens' request, there will be no formal funeral service. There will be private calling hours at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
Mr. Stevens will be cremated at Hillington Crematory, Morris, and his cremains will be buried at Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
