James Mills
MASONVILLE — James Mills, 62, passed away Friday, March 19, 1999, at The Hospital in Sidney.
He was born July 24, 1936, to the late Harry and Neva (Christian) Mills.
He was a truck driver for P.S.T. Van Lines, Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was in the Retired Bowling League in Sidney and the Factory Bowling League in Bainbridge.
He is survived by a son, William Mills; a daughter, Melissa Mills; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and LeRoy Johnson of Bainbridge; three nephews, Michael of Bainbridge, Richard of Bainbridge and David of Kansas; and several cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lewis Mills.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Francis R. Woods
COOPERSTOWN — Mr. Francis Richard Woods, 73, of Cooperstown died Monday, March 22, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare.
Francis was born in Trenton, N.J., on Nov. 16, 1925, the son of Frank and Anna (Lewis) Woods.
Mr. Woods was a 1943 graduate of Trenton Catholic Boys High School after which he enlisted and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from Rider College in Trenton, N.J., in 1947, where he achieved particular notoriety as a champion debater for the school, winning more than 20 state and national competitions. As a finalist in the 1946 national debate championships in Washington, D.C., he received best speaker award from Claire Booth Luce, and several academic awards for excellence in public speaking and writing. He also served as treasurer of the Phi Sigma Nu fraternity.
Francis married Louise Y. Engelmann on Dec. 29, 1946, in Cooperstown and together they founded their business, F.R. Woods, which they have owned and operated for the past 53 years. They were pioneers of the sports and baseball memorabilia business in Cooperstown.
Mr. Woods was a communicant of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown and a member of Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Post 7128 V.F.W. in Cooperstown.
Francis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Louise; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Norman Johannesen of Cooperstown and Lorelei and David McCall of Wakefield, Mass.; five grandchildren, Jason, Kim, Erika and Noah Johannesen and Ainsley McCall; a niece, Paula Wykoff; three nephews, Alfred Zoeller and Keith and Erik Pyontek; a sister, Gail and Edward Pyontek of West Trenton, N.J.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Haidy and Wiliam Zoeller; and several first cousins and a special family friend, Janet Hotaling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on Saturday, March 27, 1999, at 1 p.m., with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating.
Calling hours will be at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, Friday, March 26, 1999, from 6 to 9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance. Burial will be at a later date in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions can be sent to the Cooperstown Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 322, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
Richard H. Hilliker
ONEONTA — Richard H. Hilliker, 65, of Oneonta, died suddenly on Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Albany Veterans Administrations Hospital, Albany.
He was born May 26, 1933, in Bloomville, the son of Henry and Nina (Swarthout) Hilliker.
He married Bonnie Roseboom on Dec. 13, 1986, in Unadilla.
Mr. Hilliker served in the United States Army, during the Korean conflict.
He was employed with Opportunities for Otsego County, having retired in 1994.
Mr. Hilliker was a lifelong area resident having previously resided in the town of Unadilla. He was a former member of the Oneonta Lodge of the International Order of Moose.
Richard is survived by his wife at home; two daughters, Elaine Beers of Sidney Center and Paula Bennett of Greenville, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Kelly Andresen of Mount Upton; six grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard R. Hilliker and his wife, Brenda, of Raleigh, N.C., Edward W. Horan and his wife, Terri, of Otego and Bruce Mason of Delhi; three sisters, Vera Hilliker Stone of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Marie Horan and Lela Sheldon Wormouth and her husband, Daniel, of Bainbridge; his maternal mother-in-law, Marion Roseboom; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Sharon Sheldon in 1974, and Shirley Sobers in 1990.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 1999, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours.
Family will be receiving friends at the Pour House on River Street in Oneonta, immediately following the memorial service, where a luncheon will be served.

Douglas Jenkins
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Family received word that Douglas Harry Jenkins, 81, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away, Friday, March 5, 1999, at a Phoenix Hospital.
Douglas was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Walton, N.Y., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jenkins Sr.
He attended school in Walton. He was in the service from 1941 to 1945.
In 1947, he married Velma Muncil in Corinth, N.Y. They moved to Saranac in 1955. In 1982, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he now lived.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Velma Jenkins of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Jane of Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Mike of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Helen Finch of Unadilla, N.Y., and Marjorie McCall of Walton, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Douglas was predeceased by two brothers, Lester and Harry Jr. and two sisters, Peg Croop and Gert Spicer.
His final resting place will be in Veterans Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz.
Edith V. Pitcher
WESTFORD — Mrs. Edith V. Pitcher, 75, of Westford, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born June 17, 1923, in Hobart, the daughter of Jacob and Mattie (Williams) Dimmick.
She married Clayton T. Archer on May 18, 1946. Mr. Archer died Nov. 9, 1968. On May 5, 1972, she married Clyde Pitcher.
Edith was a retired nurses aide for the Oneonta Nursing Home.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Oneonta.
Edith is survived by her husband, Clyde Pitcher of Westford; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert Traver of Franklin; a stepson and a daughter-in-law, Clyde and Mary Pitcher of Westford; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Karen and Kevin Stabler of Maryland, Robert McMullen of Oneonta, Brian and Sue McMullen of Trout Creek, Joann Lynch of Franklin, Rebecca and Sean Burch of Otego, Gina and Eric Craig of North Carolina and Clyde Pitcher III of Westford; nine great-grandchildren, Cole and Hayley Stabler, Michelle and Richard McMullen, Ashley and Leslie Lynch, Casey and Maria Burch and Sarah Craig.
Edith was predeceased by a daughter, Mrs. Janice Parsons, on April 9, 1984, and a son, Mr. Clayton "Terry" Archer Jr., on May 21, 1994.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Sunday, March 28, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, officiating.
Burial will be in the spring at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
The family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta on Saturday, March 27, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish to call.

Lewis A. Knox
NISKAYUNA — Dr. Lewis Anderson Knox, 58, died at his home on Tuesday, March 23, 1999.
He was born in Middletown on Aug. 5, 1940, the son of the Rev. Lewis and Gladys (Anderson) Knox.
In 1964, he married Dora Bazzano in Hartford, Conn. She survives.
Dr. Knox was a graduate of Yale University, Class of 1962, and earned his master's degree from Springfield College in 1963. He received his Ph.D. from the State University of Albany in 1979. Dr. Knox taught psychology in many area universities and colleges: Delhi, Hudson Valley Community College, Russell Sage, St. Rose, SUNY Albany and, most recently, Skidmore College. He also worked with troubled youths at YMCA and Camp Brace.
Dr. Knox worked as a planner for the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities for the state of New York, until his retirement three years ago.
He has had various papers published in psychological journals, as well as several works of poetry.
He enjoyed playing the piano, baseball, writing and working in his garden among his fruit trees.
Dr. Knox is survived and dearly missed by his mother, Mrs. Gladys Knox of Middlefield; his wife, Dora Bazzano Knox of Niskayuna; his son, Darby Knox of Kobe, Japan; his daughter, Lila, her husband, Gary, and their daughter, Jane Stromberg, of Clifton Park; his sisters, Joanne and her husband, Luzern Holcomb, of Los Angeles, Calif., Marilyn Marshman of Los Angeles, Calif., Gladys and her husband, Shirley Tabor, of Maryland; a brother-in-law, Dr. Carmelo Bazzano and his wife, Amelia, of Worcester, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, the Rev. Lewis Knox, in 1990.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 27, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Middlefield Baptist Church, Middlefield, with the Rev. Ron Fralick, pastor, officiating. Dr. Knox will be placed in the Ottman Funeral Home's private vault to await spring burial.
There will be no public calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
Timothy Robinson
WALTON — Timothy M. Robinson, 52, of Walton, died Thursday afternoon, March 25, 1999.
He was born on Dec. 12, 1946, to Leon M. and Agnes J. Shaw Robinson.
He grew up in Walton and graduated from Walton Central School, Class of 1966.
He married Mary Jane Homovich on July 14, 1984.
He was a former Susquenango Association All-Star, and member of the Hallstead, Pa., United Methodist Church.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and member of the Hallstead American Legion. He had been employed by Academy Tours in Hoboken, N.J.
Timothy is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Robinson of Blakely, Pa.; a son, Timothy John Robinson of Blakely, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Holly J. Mead of Blakely, Pa.; a stepson, Shawn Smith of S. Pines, N.C.; his brother, John F. (Gay M. Bowker) Robinson of Walton; and a granddaughter, Mary Catherine Warnock.
He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Robinson, in 1995.
Funeral services for Timothy M. Robinson will be held on Saturday, March 27, 1999, at 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Walton, with the Rev. L. Lawrence Dunlap, of the First United Methodist Church of Walton, and the Rev. Mark Craig, of the United Methodist Church of Great Bend/Hallstead, co-officiating. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Arthur C. Benington
WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. — Arthur C. Benington, 85, a retired music teacher, died Sunday, March 7, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.
Mr. Benington was born in Hartwick, in May 1914, the son of Hobart and Florence (Colburn) Benington.
He was a graduate of Hartwick High School, Hartwick College and the Crain School of Music at Potsdam University.
An accomplished violinist, Arthur started his musical career by playing in church and teaching violin to area students.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Benington was a well-known music teacher in the Draper High School in Schenectady. He also taught in Montgomery, Mexico and at the Satellite High School in Florida, coming to Florida from Mexico in 1963.
He organized and directed the Cape Canaveral Space Center Chorus and the Ten Tones at Satellite High School.
After retiring from teaching, he became a real estate broker. He owned Space Coast Realty in Palm Bay from 1972 to 1996.
Mr. Benington was a member of Palmdale Presbyterian Church in Melbourne. He also had directed choirs at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Indialonte and First Presbyterian Church of Palm Bay.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion Benington of West Melbourne, Fla.; daughters, Marueen Laverty and Doreen Boles of Palm Bay and Barbara Johnson of Canaveral Groves; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a cousin, Virginia White of Morris; several nieces, Frances Northrup, Nadine Carvin, Janice Coulter and Sandra Berger, all of Oneonta, and Sharon Shaver of Mount Vision; and a nephew, Harold Stenson of Durham, N.C.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Stenson of Oneonta.
Memorial services were held for Mr. Benington on Thursday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at Palmdale Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the church's memorial garden.
