Frederick Raymond Lister
ONEONTA — Frederick Raymond Lister, 72, of Oneonta died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 26, 1925, in Yonkers, the son of Frederick and Julia (Horvath) Lister.
He was married to Helen Dumich on Sept. 6, 1947, in Yonkers. Mrs. Lister died on March 12, 1976.
Mr. Lister served in both the United States Navy and the United States Army during World War II.
He was a former employee of Bresee's Oneonta Department Store for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1992. Since his retirement, he worked on a part-time basis at Wal-Mart in Oneonta.
Mr. Lister was a member of the Mount Vision Bible Baptist Church.
He is survived by his present wife, Alta J. Lister of Oneonta; one daughter, Linda (Mrs. James) Eldridge of Palm City, Fla.; one granddaughter, Jillian Eldridge of Lakewood, Colo.; and one sister, Margaret Purdy of Upland, Calif.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Lister, and a grandson, James Eldridge, who died on June 30, 1991.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Mount Vision Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Christopher Ellis, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
There will be no calling hours.

Iola M. Miles
FLORAL CITY, Fla. — Iola M. Miles, 72, of Floral City, Fla. formerly of Hensonville, and Oneonta died at the Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Fla. on Friday, Oct. 23, 1998.
She was born April 19, 1926, in Maplecrest, the daughter of Otis and Fannie (Barnum) Planck.
Mrs. Miles was a member of the River Street Baptist Church of Oneonta, and she was employed at the Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie as a laundry worker and later as an attendant.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Holmes of Morris; and granddaughters, Kimberly Decker of Hyde Park, Dawn Bloecker of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Tammy Price of Hyde Park. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her dear friend, Clyde Ellet of Floral City, Fla.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clark Miles, in 1985, and her daughter, Donna Holmes, in 1996.
Calling hours will be held at Decker Funeral Home in Windham on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mel Farmer officiating. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.
Evangeline Naatz
WEST ONEONTA — Evangeline Naatz, 97, of West Oneonta died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born July 9, 1901, in Johnsburg, the daughter of Frederick M. and Ella (March) Moses.
She married William F. Naatz on July 11, 1918. William died Sept. 21, 1979.
Eva worked at the Mica Plant during World War II. In recent years she was a homemaker and took care of her family.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Kenyontown, the John Thurman Historical Society in Athol and the Home Bureau where at one time she served as secretary.
She is survived by two daughters, Dora Maloof of West Oneonta and Shirley Collis of Palmdale, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Naatz of Oneonta; a sister-in-law, Ethel Naatz of Glens Falls; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Evangeline was predeceased by one son, William M. Naatz, one sister, Elizabeth Bills, and one granddaughter, Julie Naatz.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998 at 10 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Douglas D. Oelke, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Oneonta, officiating. Burial will be in the Warrensburg Cemetery, Warrensburg.
There will be no calling hours.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, R.R. No. 3, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 in loving memory of Evangeline Naatz.

Isabella J. Raymond
ONEONTA — Mrs. Isabella J. Raymond, 75, of Oneonta died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998 at Albany Medical Center, Albany.
She was born Oct. 5, 1923, in Brooklyn, the daughter of William and Dore (Porthun) Cooper.
She married Leo C. Raymond on June 28, 1949, in South Burlington, Vt. Leo died Sept. 9, 1995.
In the mid 1960s, Isabella owned Belle's Restaurant in Oneonta.
Isabella enjoyed music and singing and loved to tell stories.
She is survived by three daughters, Theresa Peake of North Carolina, Deanna Raymond of Oneonta and Judy Petrich of Falls Church, Va.; two sons, David Raymond of Oneonta and Leo Raymond of Florida; two sisters, Edna "Bobbi" Suttles of Oneonta and Frances Alsip of Ohio; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Isabella was predeceased by one sister, Dorothy Rich.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Royal Mattoon, pastor of the Wesleyan Church in Oneonta, officiating. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
The family will be in attendance at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta tonight from 7 to 9 when those who wish may call.

James A. Richards Jr.
CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — James A. Richards Jr. died July 28, 1998 in Crossville, Tenn. from complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) at the age of 82. He and his wife, Marion, had moved to a Tennessee retirement community last August after being members of the local community for nearly 30 years.
After studying at Oberlin College, where he met Marion, he received his doctorate from Duke University. He was a remarkable teacher, beginning his career at Buckness University, then Olivet College, the University of Minnesota, Drexel Institute; he then became the first dean of instruction at the Philadelphia Community College, hiring most of the initial faculty there. In 1968, he began work at the State University College of Technology at Delhi, where he taught physics, then math, astronomy and computer science until his retirement.
He also co-authored "Physics of the Atom" and other texts that were translated into several languages and used worldwide for decades.
For the last 20 years, Jim was deeply involved as a volunteer in the nonprofit organization, the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), serving as secretary, clerk/president and then treasurer of the board. He was also an active member of the local Society of Friends (Quakers), where he was for a time clerk of the meeting.
He was a tinkerer, storyteller, beloved educational maverick, scientist, self-labeled "tightwad," and generous friend to many people of all ages, who miss him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marion; his four children, Barbara Van Ness Grey, Ann Jacob, James Richards III and Clark Richards and 11 grandchildren, as well as many friends, who will be holding a celebration of his life at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 12 Ford Ave., Oneonta on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1:30 p.m. All who loved him are invited.
Blanche Love Stark
ONEONTA — Blanche Love Stark, 95, of Oneonta and formerly of Binghamton died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin, where she had lived since 1993.
She was born July 9, 1903, in Parksville, the daughter of Royal and Dora (Ingram) Love.
She attended school in Livingston Manor and graduated from Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing in the Class of 1926. From then until 1949, she livedd in the Triple Cities at which time she moved to Oneonta, where she lived until she moved to the Chase Nursing Home in 1993.
She married Floyd C. Stark in 1926. He died in 1994.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and her husband, John G. Chomyszak of Norwich, Jane and her husband, John Goldin of Stone Mountain, Ga., Joan and her husband, William Stowell of Morris. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Floyd Brent Chomyszak and his wife, Tanya and their son, Daniel of Liverpool, Jeffrey Chomyszak of Norwich, Brook Schenck and her husband, Dr. Jarid Thomas and her children, Katherine and Elizabeth of Laredo, Texas, David Schenck and his wife, Aisha, of Gran Prairie, Texas, Kimberly Schenck and her husband, Dr. Thomas Velk, and their daughter, Sara, of Troy, Vt., John Stowell of Hilton Head, S.C., Richard Stowell of Geneseo, William Stowell Jr. of Fredonia. Also surviving is her twin sister, Bertha Knauss of Auburn, and her children.
She was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Benedict, a brother, Hilton Love, and a nephew, Royal Love.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
Friends who wish are invited to join the family for a committal service at Vestal Hills Cemetery on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at 10 a.m.
Myrl-Jane S. White
SIDNEY — Myrl-Jane S. White, 71, of Sidney passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at St. Lukes Hospital in Utica, after a long illness.
Mrs. White was born March 10, 1927, in the Bronx, to Irving and Rhea Sobel.
She graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx in 1946. She graduated from the State University College at Oneonta in 1950 and earned her master's degree in education from SUCO in 1956.
Myrl-Jane taught elementary school in Stanford, Hartwick, New Berlin and Norwich before joining the Sidney Public Schools in Sidney Center in 1958 as a fifth-grade teacher. M-J taught in the Sidney school system for 20 years, until she retired in 1978.
Mrs. White was active in the Temple Beth-El Sisterhood and the Sidney American Legion Auxiliary, where she served one year as president. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting as well.
Myrl-Jane married Toivo White of Mount Vision in 1950. They had one son.
She is survived by her husband, Toivo of Sidney; her son, Thomas of White Plains; her brother, Norman Sobel of Cumming, Ga.; and a grandson, Thomas Carter White of White Plains.
Respects may be paid Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, between 7 and 9 p.m., and services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rabbi Donald Roberts from Temple Beth-El in Oneonta officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Vision Cemetery.

Alice Rich Krick
DELHI — Alice Rich Krick, 90, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi.
She had been a resident of the Hobart Hearthstone Home for Adults and formerly resided in Delhi and South Kortright.
Alice was born on June 20, 1908, the daughter of James and Lizzie Rice Rich. She married Richard Krick on Oct. 29, 1938.
Alice was a devout Christian woman, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and school teacher for many years. She was born and raised on her family's dairy farm on Rich Road in South Kortright. She earned her teaching degree from the Oneonta Normal School. She began her teaching career in a rural school, teaching students in grades one through eight.
She was a former member of the South Kortright Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, organist and elder. After retiring from 25 years of teaching and seeing her three children through college, Alice and Dick moved to Delhi, where Alice continued her Godly ways as a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi.
Alice enjoyed organizations such as the Forum and Grange. She enjoyed being an active part in the Women's Missionary Society and a deacon.
Alice is survived her three children and their spouses, Alex and Ruth Nagy, Allan and Darlene Krick, Gordon and Diane Krick; seven grandchildren, Lisa Kleback, David Nagy, Richard Krick, Anita Walker, Neil Krick, Holly Krick and Kathryn Krick; and one great-grandchild, Sean Michael Kleback.
She was preceased by her husband of 57 years, Richard, in August 1996; two brothers, Arthur Krick and Robert Krick; one sister, Elsie Rich; and one son, Richard Robert Krick.
Calling hours with the family in attendance, will be on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home Inc., Delhi. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi, with the Rev. Arvid Whitmore officiating. Interment to follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, the Delhi Emergency Squad or the Andes Emergency Squad.

Lawrence Thrower
SIDNEY — Lawrence "Larry" Thrower, 51, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, while fighting a fire for Phelps Hose Co. No. 1, Sidney.
Larry was born Feb. 4, 1947, to William and Leola Collis Thrower in Pine Bluff, Ark.
He was a set-up man and programmer for E.C.D. of Bendix for 15 years.
Larry was currently a lieutenant for Phelps Hose Company No. 1, and has been a member for 3½ years.
He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict, and was a member of the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post No. 183, Sidney.
Larry also drove for the Sidney Emergency Squad and was a member of the Fire Brigade Response team for Amphenol Corporation.
Larry is survived by his mother, Leola Thrower of Leesville, La.; three daughters, Michele Thrower of Sidney, Cheri Thrower of Fort Carson, Colo., and Diana Thrower of Sidney; two brothers and sister-in-law, Thomas Thrower of Leesville, La., and Wayde and Sally Thrower of Minden, La.; one sister, Billyea Jowers of Alexandria, La.; one grandson, Joshua Thrower; his companion, Bonnie Lathan and her sons, Brian and Bradley, of Sidney; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A firematic funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at the Phelps Hose Company No. 1 Training Center on River Street, Sidney at 11 a.m., the Rev. Elliot Oakes, Delaware County Fire and Police Chaplin, will be leading the service.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. There will be a service Thursday evening at 7 p.m. by Phelps Hose Co., No. 1.
