Paul A. Vagliardo
OTEGO — Paul A. Vagliardo, 66, of Otego died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at his residence.

He was born March 22, 1932, in Oneonta, the son of Joseph and Concetta (Surano) Vagliardo.

He married Winetta Washburn on Oct. 9, 1954. She died in 1995.

Paul was employed by Ancillary Services at the State University College at Oneonta for more than 25 years. He retired several years ago.

He was a member of the United States Army National Guard in Oneonta.

Paul was also a member of St. Mary's Church, a former member of the Oneonta Moose, the Eagles and the Sixth Ward Athletic Club.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Joseph Comino of Otego; two grandchildren, Michelle McAdams and Tyler Comino, both of Otego; his brothers and their spouses, Carmen and Billye Vagliardo of Winter Haven, Fla., James and Mimi Vagliardo of Oneonta, and Joseph Vagliardo of Oneonta; a sister and her husband, Rosalie and Ronald Simmons of Oneonta; two sisters-in-law, Stella Vagliardo and Josephine Vagliardo both of Oneonta. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Louis Vagliardo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at 10 a.m., in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice or the Otego Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Edwin A. Zimmerman
GILBOA — Edwin A. Zimmerman, 87, of Porn Road in the town of Gilboa, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at his residence.

He was born June 19, 1911, in New Jersey, the son of Charles and Lillian Zimmerman.

He was married to Virginia Stevens on April 23, 1940, in Grand Gorge.

Edwin moved from New Jersey when he was 11 years old and attended school at the Red School House on Peters Road in Harpersfield. He lived on Porn Road in Gilboa most of his life, and for 27 years was employed by the town of Gilboa Highway Department.

Edwin was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Zimmerman of Gilboa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bob Babcock of Honeoye, and Betty and Paul Slater of Winsted, Conn.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Edwin J. and Genevieve Zimmerman of Gilboa, and Donald A. Zimmerman of Gilboa; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Harold, and a great-grandson, Zacheria.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford with the Rev. Richard Elder, pastor of the Hobart United Methodist Church, officiating.

The burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Grand Gorge.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience this afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Edwin's memory to either the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad, Main Street, Grand Gorge, N.Y. 12434.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Frank M. Ambrose
DECATUR — Frank M. Ambrose, 73, of Decatur died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1925, in the Bronx, the son of Frank and Josephine (Truxes) Ambrose.

He married Mary Grosser on June 6, 1954, in Blue Point.

Mr. Ambrose was a World War II United States Air Force veteran. He served with the 30th Bombardment Squadron in the Asiatic-Pacific theater of operations as a machine gunner. He attained the rank of staff sergeant.

He moved to the Worcester area, in 1980, from the Bronx.

Mr. Ambrose was a postal supervisor in Manhattan for 38 years and a 50-year member of the Postal Union, Branch 36.

He was a member of the Schenevus VFW Post 2752, the Worcester American Legion Post 1584, the East Worcester Fish and Game Club, the National Association of Letter Carriers, and was a tax assessor of the town of Decatur for 8 years.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He'll be well missed and always loved.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ambrose of Decatur; a son, Frank J. Ambrose of the Bronx; a daughter, Elizabeth J. McDonald of Middletown; and two granddaughters, Karen and Megan McDonald.

He was predeceased by a son, Frederick Joseph Ambrose.

A funeral liturgy service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at the E.J. Skinner Co., Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester with the Rev. William Crandall, pastor of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, officiating.

As Mr. Ambrose requested, he will be cremated and burial will take place at the Schenevus Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, from 2 to 4 p.m. and after the service at 7 till 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Mr. Ambrose to the East Worcester First Responders, P.O. Box 781, East Worcester, N.Y. 12064 or the Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, N.Y. 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Betty Monser
ONEONTA — Betty (Banner) Monser, 74, a lifelong resident of the area, died Sunday morning, Aug. 30, 1998, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born May 2, 1924, on the Banner family farm in Milford Center, daughter of Fred and Madge (Loucks) Banner.

Betty attended and graduated from the Milford Central School in 1942.

She married Jerry Monser, May 4, 1952, at St. Mary's Church in Oneonta. Mr. Monser died June 5, 1975.

She and her husband were former owners of the Goodyear Lake Pavilion, Jerry's Restaurant, and the Oasis Motor Inn in Oneonta.

More recently she owned and operated the Morris Inn until her retirement in 1985, at which time she moved to Milford.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Ann and Donnie Eckler of Milford, Debbie and Jay Whitehead of West Oneonta, and Peggy Monser of Pathfinder Village, Edmeston; brother and sister-in-law, Ferris and Gladys Banner of Milford Center; sister, Marjorie Van Buren of Oneonta; brothers-in-law, George Monser and friend, Sue Brand of Oneonta, and Philip and Harriett Monser of Bethesda, Md.; sisters-in-law, Jane and Bob Hazzard of Oneonta, Josie Gilmour of Oneonta and Shirley Banner of Cooperstown; grandchildren, Casey and Carey Eckler of Milford, Jeremy Enck of Oneonta, Stacy and Wendell Long of Georgia, and Joshua Whitehead of Oneonta; and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty was predeceased by her brother, Carl Banner and brothers-in-law, Carl Gilmour and Byron Ban Buren.

Private services will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Pathfinder Village Scholarship Fund, R.R. No. 1, Box 32 A, Edmeston, N.Y. 13335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Larry W. Gardner
MORRIS — Larry W. Gardner, 57, of Morris died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, as a result of an auto accident.

He was born March 25, 1941, in the town of Morris, the son of Weldon and Alice (Southwick) Gardner.

He was married to Deborah Wyckoff and later married to Barbara Byrd.

He was a very accomplished cabinet maker and was currently employed by T.E.R. Cabinet works of Oxford and had also worked for Vernon Guinn Contracting for several years.

He was a member of the Elks Club of Oneonta, the Wanderers Auto Club and the Otsego Sno-Goers Snowmobile Club and he was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.

Larry is survived by his children, Connie Burns and her husband, Thomas of Mill Creek Road, Otego, and Larry W. Gardner II of Morris; his grandchildren, Kimberly and Tammy Burns; his uncle, Clyde Southwick and his wife, Alice; aunts including, Gladys Lamb, Clara Murphy, Charlotte Holden; four step-sisters, Lavina Sweet, Viola Johnson, Mary Eileen Morgan, Margaurite Johnson; and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at 2 p.m., at the Baptist Church of Morris with the Rev. J. Mark Norlund officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Wednesday at the church.

Those who wish are asked to donate to the Wanderers Auto Club care of Johnston Funeral Home, Box 750, Morris, N.Y. 13808.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Earl E. Patria
LAKE PLACID, Fla. — Earl E. Patria, 68, of Lake Placid, Fla., died Aug. 29, 1998, at his residence.

He was born in Fitzwilliam, N.H., a veteran of the Korean conflict serving in the United States Army, was a recipient of the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.

Earl owned Earl's Small Engine Sales and Repair in Walpole, N.H., prior to moving to Lake Placid in 1994.

He is a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine and is survived by his wife, Grace C. of Lake Placid; a daughter, Gayle Dimasi of Winooski, Vt.; sons, Wayne Patria of Winchendon, Mass. and E. Patrick of Rindge, N.H.; step-sons, Herbert Mumford of Mechanicsville, Va. and James Mumford of Mount Vision; sister, Dorothy Ford of Winchendon, Mass.; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation and services will be held Tuesday evening at First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine with burial on Wednesday at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

Family requests memorial to the church.

Arrangements are by the Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring, Fla.

Bernice (Bunny) Cole
ROXBURY — Memorial services for Bernice (Bunny) Cole will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Officiating the service will be the Rev. Arlene Penney and the family members.

Mrs. Cole died Aug. 16, 1998, at Rochester.

She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Glenda Cosenza of Colchester, Vt., and Mrs. Carole Koch of Rochester; two brothers, Donald (Ter) Griffin and Douglas Griffin; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Burial in the Methodist Cemetery, Roxbury.

Contributions may be sent to National MS Society-Upstate Chapter.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Kady-Rose Decker
ONEONTA — Kady-Rose Decker, 5, daughter of Gregory and Cindy Decker of Oneonta died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.

There will be no calling hours. Those who wish may make contributions to the St. Mary's School, 38 Walnut St., Oneonta, in memory of Kady.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Kady-Rose Decker
ONEONTA — Kady-Rose Decker, 5, of Oneonta died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, unexpectedly.
She was born Dec. 28, 1992, in Oneonta, the daughter of Gregory and Cynthia (Dorazio) Decker.

Kady would have been a kindergarten student at St. Mary's School in Oneonta this fall.

She is survived by her parents at home; a brother, Andrew at home; her paternal grandmother, Joan Decker, and her maternal grandfather, Angelo Dorazio, both of Oneonta; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Sherman Decker Jr., who died in 1987, and her maternal grandmother, Mary Dorazio, who died in 1996.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta.

Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

There will be no calling hours.

Those who wish may make contributions to St. Mary's School, 38 Walnut St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in memory of Kady.
