Carole Burch Donahue
HARTWICK — Carole Burch Donahue, 57, of Main Street, Hartwick, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 26, 1998, at her home.
She was born on July 24, 1941, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, a daughter of Orlo G. and Marjorie (Conover) Burch.
A lifelong resident of this area, Carole attended Cooperstown Central School, Hartwick High School and graduated from Oneonta High School. She then went on to attend Florida State College and earned her associate's degree in hotel and restaurant management from Endicott Junior College. Carole received her bachelor's degree in business adminstration from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1977.
In the early 1970s Carole worked for the Faculty Student Association at the State University College in Oneonta. She then went on to serve, for 19 years, as the supervisor of the town of Hartwick, from Jan. 1, 1979 until Dec. 31, 1997.
Carole was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwick, the Otsego Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Hartwick Emergency Squad and the Otsego County Republican Committee. She was also an avid fan of race car driving. Carole will be missed by her family and the community she had loved serving.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Margaret Donahue of White House Road in Hartwick; three grandaughters, Kaylan Alban, Andrea Alban and Kelsea Donahue; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Monroe Jack Burch of Hartwick, David G. and Sharon Burch Sr., of Canastota and Orlo C. and Cindy Burch of Yorkville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the First Baptist Church of Hartwick with pastor Phillip Sell, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Burch and Conover Family Plot in Hartwick Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Friday evening, Aug. 28, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. when Carole's family will be in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
Robert Arnold Hoyt
MORRIS — Robert Arnold Hoyt, 80, of Maple Grove, Morris, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City after a very brief illness.
He was born in Nineveh on July 16, 1918, the son of George D. Hoyt and Helen (Mason) Hoyt.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Phillipines.
He was married to Ruth Matteson on Dec. 28, 1947 in Rockdale.
He was a salesman for Durkee Baking Co. for 22 years and for several years was a salesman for A to Z Farm Supply. More recently he had operated the Little Grocery in Gilbertsville and was currently a tourism attendant in Unadilla.
He was a member and elder of the Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville, an active member of the American Legion Post in Gilbertsville, and had served on the Gilbertsville Central School Board of Edcuation and the BOCES Board of Education.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Maple Grove; his kids, Kent Hoyt and his wife, Susan of Maple Grove, Helen Groff and her husband, James of Franklin, Janice Costello of Rutland, Mass., Dr. George Wade and his wife, Linda of South Lancaster, Mass., Charles Wade and his wife, Lynn of North Kingstown, R.I.; grandchildren include Sandra, Kent, Laura, and Kelly Hoyt, Heather and Dillon Groff, Casey, Tyler and Whitney Costello, Jennifer, Erin and Vanesa Wade, and Clayton Wade and a great-grandson, Dakoda Hoyt; a sister-in-law, Arlyn Wade of Maple Grove and a niece, Shirley Paquin of Holden, Mass., and her daughter, Dianne Potts and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jackson Hoyt.
Bob was well-known for his love of his family, his home and church, Maple Grove and his horses and dogs.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at 1 p.m., at the Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville with the Dr. Rev. Donald Boardman officiating.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or the Gilbertsville Fire Department or the Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville in Bob's memory.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
Cora Walker
MOUNT VISION — Cora Walker, 87, of Mount Vision died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, unexpectedly.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1910, in Otego, the daughter of Eugen and Mary (Carless) Rifenbark.
She married John Walker on May 15, 1928, in Otego. Mr. Walker died Jan. 9, 1986.
Mrs. Walker was a housewife and a lifelong area resident. In her younger years she was employed at Scintilla Corp. in Sidney and the Mica Plant in Oneonta.
She is survived by one son, William W. Walker of Noank, Conn.; one daughter, Mary Ludwig of Mount Vision; two granddaughters and their spouses, Karen Giordano and Russel Eddy of Kansas City, and Kim and Alex Blum of Charlotte, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Emily Blum and Alexandra Eddy.
She was predeceased by her grandson, William Ludwig on April 7, 1977.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta with Thomas Tirado officiating.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour before service time.
Burial will be later in the Mount Vision Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Mary M. Neumann
UNADILLA — Mary M. Neumann, 47, of Unadilla died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.
She was born, Nov. 1, 1950, in the Bronx, the daughter of Julian and Mary Merchant.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Tanya Merchant of Pahrump, Nev., and a brother, Peter Merchant of Burnt Hills.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with the Rev. Paul D. Furniss, pastor of the Unadilla Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Unadilla Baptist Church Youth Ministry, Unadilla.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
Marjorie C. MacDonald
BRADENTON, Fla. — Marjorie C. MacDonald, 67, of Bradenton, Fla. and formerly of Hobart passed away Aug. 20, 1998, in Bradenton.
She was born April 5, 1931, in Hobart, the daughter of James S. and Mary Wissinger Cowan.
She was the wife of Robert B. MacDonald.
She is survived by her husband, Robert in Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Robert J. MacDonald of Bradenton, Fla., and Todd C. MacDonald of Palmetto, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Todd of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, James Henry Cowan of Oneonta and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place at Locust Hill Cemetery in Hobart, on Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bert More officiating.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church Hymnal Fund, 1306 Manatee Ave., W., Bradenton, Fla., 34205-7594.

Ethel F. Hall
DELHI — Ethel Friend Hall, 87, a native and lifelong Delhi resident died Wednesday morning, Aug. 26, 1998, at Countryside Care Center.
She was born Jan. 11, 1911, in Delhi, the daughter of Michael J. and Lena D. (Cargill) Friend.
A 1928 graduate of Delaware Academy, she received her formal education at Hartwick College and later at the State University College of Technology at Delhi.
She married Delmer R. Hall on Jan. 1, 1952, in Delhi. He died in 1989.
In earlier years, Ethel was employed as a switchboard operator with Delhi Telephone Company and subsequently as an accountant for the College Association at Delhi, Inc., retiring 15 years ago.
A lifelong active member of the Second Presbyterian Church (United Ministry), she was a 65-year member of the Delaware Rebecca Lodge No. 318, of which she was past noble grand, past district deputy president and past N.Y.S. assembly officer; past matron of the former Watauga Chapter, O.E.S.; Donald W. Gleason Unit 190 American Legion Auxiliary; and the Delaware County Historical Association.
In previous years, she and her husband attended many N.Y. Yankee baseball games and she remained an avid fan.
Ethel enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She possessed a great appreciation for life, and sharing it with those she loved.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Marjorie M. Friend of Delhi; four nieces, Marsha Griffin Bremser of Brevard, N.C., Joan Griffin Pfisterer of Los Angeles, Sharon Griffin Beeler of Palmyra, Va., and Kay Friend of Albany; also several great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Raymond Friend and two sisters, Ada DeWitt and Evelyn Griffin, all of Delhi.
Friends are invited to call this evening from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, when Marjorie Friend will be in attendance to receive them.
A memorial service will be held later on Sunday, Oct 4, 1998, at 2 p.m. in the United Ministry Of Delhi with the Rev. Mark H. Chatterton officiating, and burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery.

Eugene `Gene'
Jankowski
OXFORD — Eugene "Gene" Jankowski, 52, of Oxford, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Binghamton.
He was born to Matthew and Genevieve Kucienski Jankowski in Jackson Heights, on Aug. 13, 1946.
Upon completion of high school, Gene joined the United States Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam as a field wireman, he was honorably discharged in 1968.
Gene was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 85.
He was employed as a field inspector for Richard Jankowski, architect, Sidney.
Gene is survived by his mother and father, Matthew and Genevieve Jankowski, East Hampton; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Caroline Jankowski of Oxford; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian E. Jankowski and Joseph Finger of Guilford; nephew, Jonathan Jankowski; four nieces, Regina Jankowski, June Jankowski, Alanna Barrows and Dawn Barrows.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz of Sacred Heart Church, Sidney officiating.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Aug. 28, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.
