Joseph Lysik
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Joseph Lysik, 81, of 84-81 N.W. 11th St., Pembroke Pines, Fla., died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 4, 1998 in Pembroke Pines Memorial Hospital, Pembroke Pines, Fla.
He was born on Aug 13, 1916 in New York City, a son of the late Frank and Josephine Trzyna Lysik.
He was raised and educated in Poland. During World War II he served our country with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946.
On June 4, 1938 he married Stella Przybysz in New York City.
Mr. Lysik was a baker by trade and worked for the Bakers Union Local No. 3 in Queens, retiring in 1974.
He and his wife have resided in Pembroke Pines, Fla., since 1983.
Surviving besides his wife of 60 years Stella are four children, daughter, Helena and her husband Hank Mlodynia of Homestead Fla., three sons and their wives, Eugene and Joyce Lysik of San Antonio, Texas, Joseph and Jane Lysik of Northport, Thomas and Mary Lysik of Bordman, Ohio; five grandchildren, Susie Golembeski of Homestead Fla., Patricia Kasinsk of Lake St. Louis, Miss., Debbie Engbert of Rochester, Crystal Strong of San Antonio, Texas, Andrew Lysik of U.S. Army in Seoul, Korea, five great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mary Lysik of Homestead Fla.; two sisters in Poland and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter F. Lysik, in August 1997.
Funeral services will be held at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs on Thursday, July 9, 1998 at 9:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, Springfield Center at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Santino Tita officiating.
Interment with full military honors will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery.
Calling hours are on Wednesday evening, July 8, 1998 at 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church, Springfield Center or the American Heart Foundation; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Carol G. Raethka
UNADILLA — Carol G. Raethka, 61, of Sanly Rd., Unadilla, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born July 9, 1936, in Englewood, N.J., the daughter of William and Ruth (Greene) Garomon.
She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester and her master's degree at Binghamton University.
She has been a resident of Unadilla, since 1972 and retired as a remedial reading teacher of the Sidney Central School system in 1996. At one time, she was employed at the Sidney Public Library and volunteered at the Sidney Central School.
She was a member and choir member of the First Presbyterian Church of Unadilla, member of the New York State Retired Teacher's Association and was an avid bridge player.
Carol is survived by two daughters, Sandra Hendrickson of Unadilla and Cynthia Raethka-Stephens of Amicalola Falls, Ga.; two sons, Timothy Raethka of Wells Bridge and Jason Raethka of Denver, Colo.; her mother, Ruth Garomon of New Hope, Pa.; a sister, Ruth Ann Burton of Denver, Colo.; a brother, William Garomon of New Hope, Pa.; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the First Presbyterian Church, Unadilla with the Rev. Helen Havlik, pastor, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Agnes Irene Wood
WALTON — Agnes Irene Wood, 76, of R.D. 3 Box 181, Bob's Brook Road, Walton died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.
She was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Hamden, the daughter of George and Beula (Maines) Fitch.
She married Millard M. Wood on Jan. 1, 1940, in Granton.
Agnes was a homemaker in her own home in Walton and was a native of Walton.
She was predeceased by her husband Millard M. Wood on April 5, 1996.
Agnes is survived by her two daughters, Irene (George) Conklin of Walton and Carol Nichols of Jackson, Mich.; six sons, George (Audrey) Wood of Hamden, Merlyn (Beverly) Wood of Walton, Carl (Gail) Wood of Bedford, Ind., Alan (Karen) Wood of Walton, Raymond (Arlene) Wood of Sidney and Stephen (Patricia) Wood of Walton; 19 grandchildren; 20 some great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Grace Wayman of Walton and Vera Bush of Trout Creek; one brother, Eben (Joyce) Fitch of Walton and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Lyon Bros.-Way Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl M. Butler, pastor of Pines Brook Baptist Church, Walton, officiating.
Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday evening, July 7, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Walton Emergency Squad.

Brenton Charles Talbot
GILBERTSVILLE — Brenton Charles Talbot, 2-year-old son of Tyler and Kelly (Smith) Talbot of Gilbertsville, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at the St. Margarets Hospital Home for Children in Albany.
He was born Aug. 1, 1995, in Albany.
He is survived by his parents, his sister, Sarah, and his brother, Mason, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Jean Smith of Gilbertsville; his paternal grandparents, Gary and Joanne Talbot of Gilbertsville; and his paternal great-grandfather, James Talbot of Morris.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris with the Rev. Randolph Palada officiating.
Committal services and interment will follow in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.
Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Those who wish may donate to the St. Margarets Center for Children, 27 Hackett Blvd., Albany, N.Y., 12208, in Brenton's memory.

Brianna M. Backus
TROUT CREEK — Brianna M. Backus, 15 months, of Trout Creek, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at 2:25 p.m. at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born March 29, 1997, at The Hospital, Sidney, the daughter of Brian and Lorinda (Pierce) Backus.
She received her bone marrow transplant on March 1, 1998, which was considered her "New Birthday" for a second chance of life.
She is survived by her parents, Brian and Lorinda Backus of Trout Creek; maternal grandparents, Leo and Irma Pierce of Walton; paternal grandparents, James and Nancy Backus of Trout Creek; paternal great-grandparents, William and Patricia Scott of Florida, Anna Scott of Walton and Alice Backus of Trout Creek; many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles; many friends and family in the community and also her devoted companion "Shelby."
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 1998, at 11 a.m. in Walton Cemetery, Walton with Pastor David S. Gatje from Trout Creek Community Church, officiating.
Calling hours are on Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at 7 to 9 p.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way Chapel.

Rose Agresti
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Rose Agresti, 86, of 86 Lake St., died on Tuesday, July 7, 1998, in The Meadows, Cooperstown.
She was born on June 28, 1912, in Richfield Springs and was a daughter of the late Angelo and Rose Famulare Agresti.
A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School and went on to the Utica School of Commerce where she completed her studies.
For many years, she worked as secretary for the Harry Smith Garage and Myron Jordan, retiring in 1970.
Rose had also taught typing in the adult education program at the Richfield Springs High School.
She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.
Surviving her are one sister, Angelina Morrow of Richfield Springs and several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Joseph's Church of Friday, July 10, 1998, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Francis Husselbeck pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Saint Joseph's Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph's Church or the charity of your choice.

Raymond G. Rader
HALCOTT CENTER — Raymond G. Rader, 70, of Halcott Center died Friday, July 3, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Stillwater, Okla.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He worked as a laborer in the oil business in Arkansas and also worked as a handyman in the local area.
He is survived by one son, Roger; one daughter, Patricia and a friend, Peter J. Esposito of Halcott Center.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 1998, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville with the Rev. Chester N. Shew officiating.
Burial will be at the Halcott Center Cemetery, Halcott Center.
Calling hours are at 9 a.m. Thursday morning until service time.
