Dorothy Carradine
November 29, 2005
Dorothy Carradine of Monticello, a retired nurse, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.
She was 89.
The daughter of the late George D. Hawkins and Laura Simmons Hawkins, she was born January 22, 1916 in England. She was the widow of Henry G. Carradine.
She is survived by a daughter: Sheila McManus & her husband Ed of Monticello; a son: Dale McCollum & his wife Hetty of Wales, England; six grandchildren: Julie, Susanne, Kim, Craig, Dean and Luann; four great grandchildren: Casey, Hailey, Julia & Lukas.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter: Julia Jones; a brother: Fred Hawkins; & a sister: Kathleen Hawkins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will follow on Friday evening at 8:00pm at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Pinto will officiate.
Cremation will be held at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.
Memorial contributions can be made to a charity that benefits animals.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Patrick Joseph Doyle
November 29, 2005
Patrick Joseph Doyle, formerly of Spring Glen where he worked in the kitchen at the Homowack Lodge, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at his home in Woodridge. He was 78.
The son of the late Patrick Doyle and Bridget Rudden Doyle, he was born December 19, 1926 in Co. Longford, Ireland.
Patrick was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea from 1951 to 1953. He attended both St. Mary & St. Andrew Church in Ellenville and St. Joseph’s Church in Wurtsboro.
He is survived by several area friends including the Arango family of Spring Glen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2 from 8:30am to 9:30am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Rev. Peter Madori will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be held in the Sullivan County Veterans cemetery, Sunset Lake Road in Liberty.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Tucker Center for Cancer Care, 60 Prospect Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.

Frederick Raute
November 26, 2005
Frederick Raute, known affectionately as “Freddie Tree” due to his work in the tree service, died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 79.
The son of the late Fred Raute and Bertha Gesbrecht Raute, he was born April 27, 1926 in Hillsdale, NJ. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II with the clean up efforts at Pearl Harbor. He also wrote poetry and was widely known for his witty character.
He is survived by two daughters: Denice Gates of Cochecton and Donna Wragge & her husband Robert Wragge, Sr. of Newborn, GA; one sister: Caroline Kleister of Mount Hope; two grandchildren: Robert Wragge, Jr. of Port Jervis and Larry R. McInturff of Clarksville, VA; two great grandchildren: Anthony Wragge and TJ McInturff.
He was predeceased by his wife: Elaine Coles Raute; and a brother: Robert Raute.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral service will follow on Thursday at 4:00pm at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Schwander will officiate.
Cremation will be held at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.
Memorial contributions made to the family would be appreciated.

Sally Starr
November 23, 2005
Sally Starr, a longtime resident of Monticello, died on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 87.
Sally was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on June 21, 1918, the daughter of the late Vincent Gurtosky and Stella Kanalowsi. She was the widow of the late William Starr.
She is survived by her companion of 38 years John Fleming of Monticello, her five daughters; Diane Plinski and her husband Jim of Minnesota, Rita Rossa and her husband Alva of Kingston, Alice Lessard and her husband Michael of Worcester, Mass, Barbara Van Dermark and her husband Jack of Findlay, Ohio and Kathleen Caudle and her husband Daniel of Grassey Creek, NC, her brother; Edward Gurtosky of Buffalo, NY and a host of Grand and Great Grandchildren and her one Great Great Grandchild.
She was predeceased by her son, George Gurtosky and her sister, Julia VanDervort and brother, Chester Gurtosky.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27 from 7 to 9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home 401 Broadway Monticello. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 28 at St. Peters Church Broadway Monticello with Rev. officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters cemetery Monticello.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Mark L. Schwartz
November 22, 2005
Mark L. Schwartz, a self-employed oil-burner mechanic, and 10-year resident of the area, died suddenly on Tuesday, November 22, 2005. He was 60.
The son of the late Isadore and Betty Miller Schwartz, he was born in the Bronx on March 12, 1945. Mark was a member and former Captain of the Wurtsboro Fire Police, Director of the Sullivan County S.P.C.A, an avid New York Yankees fan. He will also be remembered for the numerous editorials he placed in area newspapers, as he never was one to not give his opinion on a subject. Mark will always be remembered for his wise cracking jokes, as humor was a very important part of his life. He always wanted everyone to smile.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Renay Friedman Schwartz, at home; his 2 sons, Andrew Schwartz and his wife Pansy, of Kew Gardens, NY, and Ian Schwartz and his wife Beatrice, of Flushing, NY; as well as his 3 grandchildren, Shantavea, Alicia, and Eric, all of Flushing, NY.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 26 from 4-7pm, at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro.
A funeral service for Mark will be held on Sunday, November 27, at 3:00pm at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Pinto officiating. Burial will follow in the Sylvan cemetery, Wurtsboro.
Mark had a love of creatures great and small, his love for animals is endless, In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County S.P.C.A, 25 Rock Hill Drive, Rock Hill, NY 12775.

William J. Morgan
November 22, 2005
William J. Morgan, a golf & family enthusiast, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at home in Monticello surrounded by the love of his family.
He finished one under par.
The son of the late Irving Francis Morgan & Mary Elizabeth Leonard Morgan, he was born November 5, 1934 in Orange, New Jersey. After contemplating the priesthood, ‘Wild Bill’ enrolled in the New Jersey National Guard and later met Marie to start a family. A former professional, ‘Willy the Wedge’ was a golf instructor at the Concord Monster Golf Course who devoted his free time to the game of golf; He was also a former mixologist at D’s Restaurant in Monticello and later at the Concord Resort Hotel in Kiamesha Lake. He played his last round of golf just a few weeks ago at the #1 course in the world, Pine Valley Golf Club, with his two sons.
His family would like to thank the many nurses at the Tucker Center for Cancer Care in Middletown for their extraordinary care during his stay with them. It was Bill’s wish to leave the hospital to be at home with those he loved, and without the many fine people with Hospice this would not have been possible.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years: Marie Ofvergard Morgan, at home; two sons: Scott W. Morgan & his wife Jennifer of Hawthorne, CA and Henrik ‘Rick’ Morgan & his wife Jennifer of Monticello; a daughter: Linda L. Morgan Kenny & her husband Joe of Monticello; three grandchildren: Jake, Carlie & Nathaniel; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beautiful granddaughter: Ashley Lynn Morgan; three brothers: Frank Morgan, Jack Morgan & Jimmy Morgan; and a sister: Mary Patterson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26 at St. Joseph's Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with a 10:00 tee time.
Burial will be held in the St. Peter’s cemetery in Monticello.

William V. DiBenedetto
November 19, 2005
William Vito DiBenedetto of Farmville, VA and Ferndale, NY, died on Saturday, Nov. 19th in VA he was 73.
William was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he started his career as a professional baseball player for the Brooklyn Dodgers. After serving his country in the Army during the Korean War, he owned his own masonry company and then became a Standardbred horse trainer. Bill was an amateur field trial dog trainer and sports enthusiast.
He is survived by a sister Frances Diesu of Huntington, New York. Also survived by six children: son James DiBenedetto and wife Debra of Topfield, MA, daughter Joanne Benedict and husband Mark of Hamilton, MA, son Kyle DiBenedetto and wife Robin of Ferndale, NY, daughter Gina Mishler and husband Mark of Hawthorn Woods, IL, daughter Angela DiBenedetto of Boca Raton, FL, and daughter Brenda Mizelle and husband Robert of Mechanicsville, VA. He was also survived by 14 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents James and Josephine DiBenedetto and his beloved wife of 32 years, JoAnn DiBenedetto.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 26 from 4 to 6:00 pm and a Memorial service will follow from 6 to 7:00 pm at VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home 401 Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember William DiBenedetto may make contributions in his memory to: Standardbred Retirement Foundation for retired racehorses at 49 East Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728.

Henry “Bruce” Sheppard, Jr.
November 5, 2005
Henry “Bruce” Sheppard, Jr. passed away Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany. He was 56. Born April 11, 1949, he was born in Moncks Corner, SC, the son of Henry Sheppard, SR., and the late Sarah Brown Sheppard.
“Bruce” leaves to cherish his memory, his father, Henry Sheppard, SR, of Mattpan, MA; 5 sisters, Sarah Bennett of Monticello, Betty Stevens, of Moncks Corners, SC, Henritta Montgomery, Gloria Sheppard of MA, Kathleen Sharque, of Stone Mtn, GA;2 brothers, Samuel Jacob Warren, of St. Steven, SC, & Lawrence Sheppard of MA; 2 aunts, Mary S. Brown & Rebecca Liu Yung; 2 special nieces, Larissa & Latoya Bennett; one special nephew, Benjamin Bennett, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service in “Bruce’s” name will be held on Monday, November 14 @ 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church, 28 Liberty St., Monticello, NY, with the Rev. James Matthews officiating.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date in the Rock Ridge cemetery, Monticello.

Sara Fello
November 4, 2005
Sara Fello, of Wurtsboro, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died Friday, November 4, 2005 at the Orange Co. Regional Medical Center in Middletown, She was 80.
The daughter of the late Rinaldo Mazzoni and Ginetta Andreuccetti, she was born October 25, 1925 in the Bronx.
Sara was a member of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Wurtsboro, and The Ave Maria Guild. She was a past member of the Wurtsboro Fire Dept. Ladies Auxilary and the Ladies Auxilary of the American Legion. She was the widow of Anthony Fello.
She is survived by her loving companion: Leo Lucchesi, of Wurtsboro. Three sons: Anthony R. and his wife Debra of Middletown: Ronald and his wife Kathy of Wurtsboro: and Frank and his wife Maryann of Wurtsboro. Two Daughters: TheresaSchecter and her husband Neal of Illinios and Gina Figura of Wurtsboro. One brother Andrew Mazzoni and his wife Dolores of the Bronx and a sister-in-law Caroline Scialo of Florida. Ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother Richard Mazzoni.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, from 3:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Wurtsboro, on Monday November 7, at 10:00am.
Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Wurtsboro.
Memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

Jean A. McArdle
October 18, 2005
Jean A. McArdle, a waitress for the Monticello Diner and longtime resident of the area, , died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at her home in Rock Hill. She was surrounded by her family and friends, as she always wanted it to be. She was 71.
The daughter of the late John Omland & Anna Knaben Omland, she was born December 2, 1933 in Brooklyn.
Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church of Rock Hill and was the widow of both Stephen McArdle and William Hofsommer.
She is survived by her two daughters: Stephanie Johnson & her husband Craig of Monticello and Karen Gorr & her husband Edward of Parksville; five grandchildren: Colleen, Jennifer, Erik, Daniel & Nicole; two great grandchildren: Patrick & Gabrielle; a sister-in-law: Else Omland of Oslo, Norway; and three nieces: Alice, Mari-Ann & Johanne.
She was also predeceased by a son: Patrick; and a brother: Jan Omland.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4 – 8 pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 11am at the United Methodist Church of Rock Hill, 410 Rock Hill Drive in Rock Hill. Rev. Maybelle Renzi will officiate.
Burial will be held in St. Peter’s cemetery in Monticello.
