Dorothy Mae Behrens

Dorothy Mae Behrens, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, May 29, 2006 at her home in Wanaksink Lake, Rock Hill. She was 87.
The daughter of the late Harold VanBuskirk & Matilda Williams VanBuskirk, she was born April 26, 1919 in Goshen. She was the widow of John Behrens & Sam Ferguson.
Dorothy was a member of the Wanaksink Lake Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rock Hill Fire Dept.
She is survived by many area friends including Elsie & Donald McKenney & family of Summitville.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hope Plains cemetery in Otisville.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Rock Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 1, Rock Hill, NY 12775.

Jason Rodriguez

Jason Rodriguez, a Direct Support Professional at New Hope Community in Loch Sheldrake, a loving son, brother and uncle, died at Westchester Medical Center on Thursday, May 25, 2006, due to complications from a severe car accident on May 24, 2006. He was 19.
He was born October 26, 1986, in Harris, N.Y., the son of Hector J. Rodriguez and Ana Luz Reyes.
He was a 2005 graduate of Monticello High School.
Jason is survived by his parents, Hector and Ana, at home in Monticello, and his siblings, Diana and Joey. He is also survived by his niece, Gabrielle, and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 29 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
A Funeral Mass will be offered for Jason on Tuesday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's R.C. Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Burial will be in the Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.
The family would like to thank all of his friends and fellow employees for all of their help and support.

Ruth A. Stackhouse

Ruth A. Stackhouse, a lifelong resident of Monticello, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 87.
The daughter of the late James McCaffery & Helen Edwards McCaffery, she was born April 16, 1919 in Monticello. She was the widow of Charles Benson Stackhouse who predeceased her in 1979.
Ruth worked in the Five & Dime Store in Monticello and was a nurse’s aide in the Hamilton Avenue Hospital in Monticello. She also worked in the Cooke School Cafeteria until she retired in 1982.
A family statement reads: “She was a loving mother and grandmother and the rock of the family whom we all will miss. She loved having all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren around her.”
She is survived by her two daughters: Janet Taggart & her husband Frank of Monticello, and Joan Blackburn & her husband Mike of Rock Hill; two sons: Charles Stackhouse & his wife Maryjane of Monticello, and Jerry Stackhouse & his wife Sue of Monticello;one sister; Irene Harris of Monticello; 14 grandchildren: Lori Benjamin & her husband Rich, Kim Hogue & her husband Dan, Brenda Cruz & her husband JR, Charles Blackburn, Julie Stackhouse, Gary Michael Magie, Toni Ann Reiser, Katie & Kaci Stackhouse, Debbie Heins & her husband Rich, Jamie Ferriero & her husband Nick, Stacy Heins & her husband Dave, Jim Taggart & his wife Patty, Shane Taggart & his wife Amy; 9 great grandchildren: Rick & Ryan Heins, Haley Heins, Danny & Jenna Hogue, Hunter Ferriero, Quentin & Meg Cruz, Brooke Irelan; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruth was predeceased by her Daughter Jean Ann Taggart, her Sister Marion (Skip) Knapp, and her Brother, James A. (Sonny) McCaffrey.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 28 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 29 at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway & Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. Robert Ginel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s cemetery in Monticello.

Patrick W. LaRusso, Sr. of Monticello, a former employee of Verizon, died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 65.
The son of the late John B. LaRusso, Sr. & Elizabeth Wittekind LaRusso, he was born July 7, 1940 in New York City.
An avid outdoorsman, Pop was a great husband, father & grandfather who will be dearly missed. He also served in the United States Army during the Berlin Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Cynthia Marie Nelson LaRusso, at home; three sons: Christopher LaRusso & his wife Robin of Monticello, Patrick LaRusso & his fiancé France Margillo of Glen Wild and Anthony LaRusso & his wife Jennifer of White Lake; two daughters: Dawn Monforte & her husband Anthony of Monticello and Michelle Morris & her husband Robert of Wurtsboro; a brother: John LaRusso, Jr. of Niagara Falls; eight grandchildren: Dominic, Christopher, John, Joe, Nicole, Amanda, Frank & Heather; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul LaRusso.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 22 at 11:15am at St. Joseph’s Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Fr. Peter Madori will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in the Sullivan Co. Veterans cemetery in Liberty.

Agnes Bifulco Dolan

Agnes Bifulco Dolan, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the Orange Regional Medical Center-Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 83.
The daughter of the late Pasquale Bifulco & Rosina LaPietra Bifulco, she was born October 27, 1922 in Flatbush, Brooklyn. She was the widow of Donald C. Dolan who predeceased her on June 7, 1996.
She graduated from Marquette University with a Journalism degree and went on to write a book entitled “Pinches and Handfuls”. Along with her late husband they owned and operated Monticello Photo Service for over 30 years.
She is survived by her two sons: Ralph Dolan & his wife Susan of Torrington, CT and Patrick Dolan & his fiancé Marian Parks of Bloomingburg; two daughters: Donna Gorton & her husband Milan of Augusta, KS and Carol Stawski & her husband John of Scotia; two brothers: Anthony Bifulco of Franklin Square and Dominic Bifulco of Rapid City, SD; two sisters: Janet Hopper of Jupiter, FL and Anna Mellina of Tamarac, FL; seven grandchildren: Joseph, Mary, Christopher, Rosanne, Claire, David & Renee; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Rock Ridge cemetery, Monticello.

Marshall S. Brown, Sr., a retired self-employed contractor and longtime resident of the area, died Friday, May 12, 2006 at his home in Monticello. He was 74.
The son of the late George W. Brown & Nettie Nichols Brown, he was born August 28, 1931 in Virginia. A loving husband, father & grandfather, he was a great teacher of life.
He is survived by his children: Josephine Chack & her husband Jerry of Masten Lake, Marshall S. Brown, Jr. “Pete” & his wife Debbie of Chagrin Falls, OH, Rusty Brown & his wife Natalie of Marlboro, George “Allen” Brown & his wife Karen of Hershey, PA, Joseph A. Brown “Boobie” of Rock Hill, Helen “Missy” Drobysh & her husband Steve of Monticello, Marsha “Lovey” Amatucci & her husband Mark of Leesburg, FL and Laura “Laurieann” Brown & her husband Bob Gray of Monticello; 26 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews & the rest of his extended family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Helen M. Brown on February 20, 2006.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 17 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Rev. Dolores Williams will officiate.

Margaret T. Washington of Monticello, a former Town Clerk for the Town of Thompson and lifelong resident of the area, died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 86.
The daughter of the late Edward J. Lane & Anastasia McGuire Lane, she was born November 30, 1919 in Middletown.
Margaret also worked for Bill Rieber with the Credit Bureau of Monticello, and was a proprietor of Washington’s Liquor Store. She was also a member of St. Peter’s Church in Monticello; past member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Monticello Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her two sons: Robert Washington & his wife Peggy of Liberty and Joseph Washington & his wife Fran of Mongaup Valley; a daughter: Anastasia Robisch & her husband John of Longmont, CO; a brother: William Lane & his wife Carol of Monticello; a sister: Patricia Taylor of Boulder, CO; a daughter-in-law: Patricia Washington of Monticello; ten grandchildren: Eddie, Colleen, Anastasia, Billy, Amy, Timmy, Vinny, Kathleen, Blake & Thomas; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins.
In addition to her husband, Ambrose “Slim” Washington, she was also predeceased by a son: John Washington; and a sister: Regina O’Neill.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.

Frieda K. Rapp, a homemaker and longtime resident of Monticello, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at St. Camillus Health & Rehab Center in Syracuse. She was 89.
The daughter of the late Carl Keller and Anna Buehler Keller, she was born May 15, 1916 in Hoboken, NJ. She was also the widow of Walter W. Rapp who predeceased her on December 20, 1985.
Frieda attended the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene; was a member of the New York State Grange and Monticello Grange; Tri-States Dog Obedience Club; and a charter member of the Monticello Kennel Club; She was also the bookkeeper for Maplehorst Farms in Monticello.
She is survived by her son: John Rapp of Monticello; two daughters: Holly Cornell of Camillus and Frieda Steinjann of Ormond Beach, FL; four grandchildren: John, Karen, Brian & James; and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 7 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, May 8 at 10:00am at the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene, Katrina Falls Road in Rock Hill with the Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow at the Harris cemetery.

Richard Paul Kappes
May 2, 2006
Richard Paul Kappes of Cuddebackville passed away with his family by his side on May 2, 2006 in Valhalla. He was 44 years young.
The son of Joanne Baker Kappes & the late Richard W. Kappes, he was born April 5, 1962 in Middletown.
Richard was a dedicated advocate for Crystal Run Village where he was a much loved and familiar figure for 28 years. He was known as Uncle Rich to both the staff and the people he came to know over the years. His warm smile and laughter welcomed all those he came to know and love. Rich often gave of himself, taking the men of Corbett Road on camping and fishing trips with his family.
Rich was also a caretaker at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Middletown for five years. He was also an avid fisherman; a member of B.A.S.S. and 1st Bass masters of Sullivan County. He formed lasting and close friendships with not only the people of his club, but everyone who he came to know through his journey of a lifelong dream of becoming a tournament fisherman. Rich will always be remembered as a fun and fair sportsman. In the highlight of his fishing career, Rich won first place in the NYS B.A.S.S. State fishing tournament on Lake Champlain on July 17, 2005.
Rich leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of eight years: Jennifer Lynne Kappes. They were married
October 14, 1998 after and eight-year companionship. Rich also leaves behind his two loving & wonderful boys: Richard William Kappes (age 14), and Dylan Paul Kappes (age 8). Richard cherished the life he spent with his children and was a loving and devoted Dad. He enjoyed playing catch with his sons, camping and fishing and just spending time with his family.
He also leaves behind his loving mother: JoAnne Kappes of Matamoras, PA; his sisters: Dawn Kappes & her two children: Robin & Megan of Woodbourne, Lori Aumack & her husband Thomas and their children: Kayla, Tommy & Carley of Westown, Melanie Countrys & her husband James and their children: Mercedes, Nichole and Jasmine of Thompsonville, Doris Kappes & her companion Thomas Rose and their children Katelyn and Shawn of Tennessee; his maternal grandfather: Arthur Baker of Matamoras, PA; Maternal; grandmother: Doris Baker of Louisiana; his father-in-law: John Hogencamp & his wife Lori and their two children David & Kayla of Bloomingburg; and his brother-in-law: John Hogencamp & his companion Amy Steinhauer and their two children: John & Jesse of Cuddebackville.
Rich also leaves behind a lifelong friend and fishing buddy: Joseph Sullivan and his companion Amanda Schott and their children Rose, Joseph, AnnMarie, Lindsey and Savanna of Washingtonville; and several aunts, uncles & many friends.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents: Roy & Bertha Kappes.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday, May 6 from 10:00am to 11:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00am at the funeral home. Pastor Robert C. Grieve will officiate.
Burial will follow in Sylvan cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Monticello, NY - Ellen M. Price, a homemaker, devoted wife, and mother, died Monday, May 1, 2006 at home. She was 49.
The daughter of the late Clifton Mapes and Marion Haas Mapes, she was born October 2, 1956 in Monticello.
She is survived by her husband: Richard H. Price Sr., at home; her mother Marion Mapes of Monticello; 3 loving children, Richard. H Price, Jr., Daniel I. Price, and Carolyn Price, all at home; two brothers: Robert Mapes and Daniel Mapes of Monticello; two sisters Susan Jahn of Monticello and Patricia Bernhardt of Rock Hill; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a sister, Louise Gale, in February.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at, 11:00am, at the Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Case officiating.
Burial will follow in Messenger cemetery in Monticello.
