Rena Janto
NEWARK/CLIFTON SPRINGS - Rena Janto, 75, formerly of Spa Apartments in Clifton Springs, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 at Newark Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in Fairville cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Wayne and Seneca Counties, 1120 S. Main St., Newark 14513, in Rena's memory.
Rena was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Newark, the daughter of the late Leon and Hazel DuPoint. She retired from the Clifton Springs Hospital after 35 years of service as a supervisor in the admitting department. She loved her cats and was an avid reader. Rena was happiest spending time with her loving family.
She is survived by her sons, Andrew (Carol) Janto of Canandaigua and Steve (Patricia) Janto of Indiana; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; and daughter, Laurena.
Robert A. Patrick Sr.
PHELPS/CLIFTON SPRINGS - Robert A. Patrick Sr., 69, of Phelps, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 surrounded by his loving family at the Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends called Friday, Oct. 7 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 8 at the funeral home. Burial followed in Resthaven cemetery.

Bob was born Sept. 18, 1936, the son of the late Clifton and Dorothy Patrick. He served his country it the Army from 1955 to 1957. Bob owned and operated the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps and the R.A. Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs for many years. He was a member of the Ontario-Wayne-Yates Funeral Directors Association, the Garoga-Sincerity Lodge F&AM; 200 of Phelps and the Damascus Temple Shriners. Bob was a former member of the Clifton Springs Rotary Club, Midlakes Football Boosters and the Midlakes School Board. He loved his family and friends and always offered a helping hand to anyone. Bob will be deeply missed by his loving friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy of Phelps; children, Robert (Jody Spafford) Patrick Jr. of Romulus, Christine Mancusi of Geneva, Michael (Nadine) Patrick of Clifton Springs, Steven Patrick of Phelps; granddaughters, Jessica Mancusi and Katelyn Patrick; brothers, David (Beth) Patrick of Albany, John (Arlene) Patrick of Hollywood, Fla., Peter (Thea) Patrick of Charlottesville, Va., Chris (Martha) Patrick of Schenectady and Daryl Patrick of San Jose, Calif.; sister, Colleen (Mark) DeCarlo of Cooper City, Fla.; special nephews, Richard Patrick of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Clifton; and nephew, John.

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Sharon Ann Dingman, 56, of 401 Horizon Drive, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 to be with her Savior.
Friends visited Friday, Oct. 14 at the Savannah Congregational Church, in Savannah. A funeral service in her honor immediately followed calling hours. Burial will be in the Riverview cemetery, County Road 25 in Phelps.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Dingman; sons, Brian and Philip Dingman; daughters, Iva, Genevieve and Joy Dingman; granddaughter, Katelyn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Mina Gutherie; brothers, William, Arnold and Gary; and sister, Leila.
Kara Lyn Randy Fox-Kesel

PHELPS - Kara Lyn Randy Fox-Kesel, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at Geneva General Hospital.
Graveside services were Saturday, Oct. 15 in Riverview cemetery, with the Rev. Shirley Filiatreau officiating.

She is survived by her loving parents, Deanna Fox Heitman and William Kesel, both of Phelps; sisters, Alexis Gabrielle Heitman and Jayden Hannah Heitman, both of Phelps; brothers, Noah Chandler Kesel of Phelps, Larry Paul Kesel of Fayette; aunt, Heather Fox of Glendale, Calif.; uncles, Daniel Kesel of Sodus and Tim (Bar) Kesel of Phelps; maternal grandparents, Randy and Carol Fox of Phelps; maternal great-grandmother, Wanetta Holbrook of Clifton Springs; and many cousins.
She is predeceased by brother, Isaiah William Fox-Kesel; maternal great-grandfather, James Holbrook; maternal great-grandparents, Myrtle and Edward Fox; paternal grandparents, William and Joyce Kesel; and paternal great-grandparents, Ruth and Robert Scott.

Leonard F. Stoddard

HOPEWELL - Leonard Stoddard, 86, of Spangle Street, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005 at Newark Manor Nursing Home.
Friends called Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Fuller Funeral Home in Canandaigua, where funeral services were held Oct. 12. Burial will be in Chapman cemetery.

Leonard was born Aug. 21, 1919, in the family home on Stoddard Road, to the late William and Ethel French Stoddard. He retired from the American Can Co. in Geneva where he had worked for over 40 years in the machine shop. He also owned and operated a water hauling business for 14 years. He was a charter member of the Hopewell Fire Department, a 50-year member of the Hopewell Grange, and a member of the Chapin Church, the Hopewell Historical Society and the Ontario County Fair Association. He also served on the Hopewell Town Board and the Chapman cemetery Board of Directors. Along with his love of the outdoors, he was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Hendrickson Stoddard of Hopewell; his children, John L. (Shirley) Stoddard of Hopewell; his children, John L. (Shirley) Stoddard of Canandaigua, David A. (Jeanne) Stoddard of Reyton, Colo., Jack F. (Sharon) Stoddard and Rick F. (Laurie) Stoddard, all of Phelps, and Gail A. (Paul) Travis of Corning; his grandchildren, Tricia, Denise, Jeff, Jodie, Brad, Alishia, Sarah, Jill, Angela, and Ian; his great-grandchildren, Brittany, Maxwell, Garrett, John Joseph, Veronica, Brad, and John; and his sister, Janice Coon of Stanley.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers-in-law, Doris and Ray Foster, and Raymond Coon.
Susan Kay Polakiewicz (Millspaw)
NEWARK/SYRACUSE - Susan Kay Polakiewicz (Millspaw), 53, of 460 Ridgewood Ave. in Syracuse, died at the House of John in Clifton Springs after an extended illness.
In accordance with her wishes, there were no calling hours or services. The family will gather privately.
Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or House of John in Clifton Springs, whose staff and services were so appreciated.
Susan was the daughter of the late Ralph Burton and N. Margaret (Sischo) Millspaw. She was from Newark, formerly of Clyde.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Millspaw of Denver, Linda Janto of Castleton and Carol Finch of Phelps; four brothers, James of Stanley, David of Syracuse, Russell of Sodus and Wayne of Poughkeepsie; several nieces and nephews; as well as many friends, including those from her years of employment at IEC company, the New York State Canal System and the Village of Newark. She will also be greatly missed by her two beloved dogs, She and Gizmo.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps.
Phyllis I. Zeger
PHELPS - Phyllis Zeger, 80, of Phelps, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 at the House of John in Clifton Springs.
Friends called Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps. A funeral service to celebrate Phyllis' life was Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Newark cemetery.

Phyllis was born May 14, 1925, in Newark, the daughter of the late Donald and Bernice Cole. She spent many years on the family dairy farm, Sandy Mead Farms, and loved gardening. Phyllis was an avid motorcycle rider and loved her cats and dogs. She was a member of the Phelps T.O.P.S. Club and Farm Bureau for many ears. Phyllis will be deeply missed by all of her loving friends and family.
She is survived by her loving son, Lawrence (Patricia) Zeger of Phelps; grandchildren, Adam and Jeremy; brother, Paul Cole of California; sisters, Marion Wheaton of East Williamsport and Barb Paulick of Spencerport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2002; and son, John, in 1998.
Gerald J. Duffner, MD
NEWARK - Capt. Gerald J. Duffner, USN (Ret.), 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
Friends called Friday, Aug. 12 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, in Newark. Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Park Presbyterian Church, in Newark. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery with full military honors.

Dr. Duffner was born July 31, 1914, in New Baden, Ill., the son of Cecil and Ella Mank Duffner. He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1941. In 1943, Dr. Duffner was commissioned a lieutenant, junior grade in the medical corps of the Navy; he served 26 years in the Navy, retiring in the grade of captain in May 1969. His last three assignments were surgeon, Atlantic Command and Atlantic Fleet, commanding officer, naval hospital embarked in USS Sanctuary and commanding office at U.S. Naval Submarine Medical Center in Groton, Conn. While serving in the Navy, Capt. Duffner was awarded The Legion of Merit, with gold star in lieu of second award, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Navy Distinguished Service Order, Navy Unit Citation and eight campaign medals.
Following Dr. Duffner's release from active duty, he was employed for three years as CEO of Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. He next engaged in the private practice of family medicine as a partner in the Newark Medical Center. When the partnership dissolved in 1978, he continued in private practice in Newark and also opened a satellite office in North Rose for several years. He was also employed as medical director of the Wayne County Nursing Home, Newark Manor Nursing Home, Elm Manor Nursing Home and the Skilled Nursing Unit of Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. In early 1989, he was appointed the first medical director of the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Dr. Duffner served 19 years on the medical staff of the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and was president for one term. In January of 1991, he ceased all professional activity. Dr. Duffner had been licensed to practice medicine in New York and Louisiana and he was a diplomat of the American Board of Occupational Medicine. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, the Veteran of Foreign Wars, the American Medical Association, and was a past president of the Wayne County Medical Society.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; daughters, Geraldine (Phil) Peters, Ph.D. of Simi Valley, Calif. Mary (Dennis) Sanada CPA of Reno, Nev.; a son, Gerald "Jack" (Debbie) of Newport Beach, Calif.; granddaughter, Diane (Chris) Rippe; four grandsons, Gerald Duffner III, Brent, Kevin and Chad Sanada; and five great-grandchildren, Kaycie and Kylee Rippe, Quinton, Ella and Braeden Duffner. He is also survived by stepchildren, Michael (Claudia) Thurston, Ph.D., Melanie (Robert) Newby of Penfield, Michelle (Robert) Sandy of Naples, Fla., and Tamara (Mark) Prodrick of Ontario; four step grandsons and five step granddaughters.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Ralph; a sister, Virginia; and wives, Mabel and Helen.
Helen D. Doebler
NEWARK/CLIFTON SPRINGS - Helen Dorothy Doebler, 95, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005 at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home.
Family and friends called Monday, Aug. 15 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home in Newark. A funeral service followed calling hours with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Elmira at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Doebler was born Nov. 13, 1909, in Waverly, the daughter of the late Dewitt and Nell Collins Pound. She lived in Elmira most of her life, coming to Newark in 1994, then to Clifton Springs in 1999. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Avenue Methodist Church and the Monarch Club in Elmira. Mrs. Doebler received many awards from the American Red Cross for the many hours she volunteered at blood drives.
Mrs. Doebler is survived by her son, Bill (Karen) Doebler of Newark; daughters, Jean (Dick) Eddy of Ohio, and Gerry (Bill) Arcuri of Rochester; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Doebler was predeceased by her husband, William Doebler Sr. in 1992; and two grandchildren.
Alice C. Armitage
BATH - Alice C. Armitage, 78, of Route 415 in South Bath, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005 in Hopewell, as a result of an automobile accident.
Friends and family attended calling hours on Thursday, Aug. 25 at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath. A Rosary service was at 7:30 p.m. that evening. A Mass of Christina burial was celebrated Friday, Aug. 26 with the Rev. Frank Erb as celebrant.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Alice was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Schenectady, the daughter of Cecil and Helen Berner. She was a retired employee of New York state. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Bath.
She is survived by eight children, Donald (Sue) Armitage of Ogden, Utah, Elizabeth (Frederick) Muller of Bath, Richard (Barbara) Armitage of Allentown, Pa., Michael (Polly) Armitage of China, Maine, Paul (Frances) Armitage of Westport, Robert (Andrea) Armitage of Houston, Mary Jane Stell (Todd) of Elverson, Pa., and Margaret (Kyle) Gage of Clifton Springs; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olive Berner, Lois Mix and Carol Kochis, all of Schenectady; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Armitage, in 2001.
