Laura J. Dildine
GENEVA - Laura J. Dildine, 87, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home.
There were no prior calling hours. Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan 11 at the McGuigan Funeral Home. Captain Yvonne Marino of the Geneva Salvation Army citadel officiated. Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Geneva Salvation Army.
Laura was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Jesse and Pearl Clark Dildine. She was a member of the Geneva Senior Citizens Club and for many years played the piano at the Geneva Salvation Army.
Laura is survived by one brother, James (Marion) Dildine of Geneva; two sisters, Helen (Robert) Hines of Phelps and Jessie Scott of Rochester; two aunts; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Roger Scott.
Eleanor Marsa
PHELPS - Eleanor Marsa, 95, formerly of Phelps, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at the Geneva Living Center South.
Friends called Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were offered Thursday, Jan. 13 at the funeral home with the Rev. Edward Dillon, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Francis cemetery in Phelps.
Friends may contribute to the Geneva Living Center South Activities Fund in Eleanor's memory.
Eleanor was born Dec. 10, 1909, in Phelps, the daughter of Michael and Julia Howley, and had lived in the area all of her life. She retired from Sarah Coventry in Newark after many years of service. Eleanor was a member of the Sarah Coventry Retirees, St. Francis Church and the Phelps American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing solitaire and watching the Yankees on TV.
Eleanor is survived by her son, James (Pat) Marsa of Lyons; a granddaughter, Shannon (Michael) Howitt of Cortland; a grandson, Tim Kerfien of Geneva; very close friends, Mary Ellen and Gary Olschewske of Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred; daughters, Sue and Betty; a sister, Alice DeBrock; and a brother, James Howley.
William Ralph Ogden
CLIFTON SPRINGS - W.Ralph Ogden, 81, of Clifton Springs, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005 at Highland Hospital.
Friends called Thursday, Jan. 13 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. A memorial services was offered Friday, Jan. 14 at the First Baptist Church of Clifton Springs. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Whitehaven Memorial Park.
Friends may contribute to the First Baptist Church of Clifton Springs or the Clifton Springs Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Center in Ralph's memory.
W.Ralph was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Rochester, the son of William J. and Etta Ogden, and had lived in the area most of his life. He served his country in the Army from 1943 to 1945.
W.Ralph was a graduate of the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy, and owned and operated the Ogden Drug Company, Inc. for 43 years. Ralph was a member of the Clifton Springs Rotary Club and the Clifton Springs VFW.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Kathleen (Norman) Welch of Pittsford, and Marcia (Brian) Andreoli of Bethel, Conn.; a son, John E. (Judy) Ogden of Leesburg, Va.; five grandchildren; a brother, Robert B. (Jean) Ogden of Lake Helen, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
W.Ralph was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Schrader.
Evelyn M. Powell
PALMYRA - Evelyn M. Powell, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005.
Calling hours were not observed. A graveside service will be held in East Palmyra cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in memory of Evelyn may be directed to the Fairport Baptist Home, 4646 Nine Mile Point Road, Fairport 14450.
Evelyn was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Dundruff, Pa., to William and Carrie Riverburg Coleman. She was married
to Aubrey Powell on Dec. 31, 1929. Mrs. Powell was a member of the Walworth Senior Citizens and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Dale A. (Katherine) Powell of Conquest and Hollis A. (Elizabeth) Powell of Shortsville; daughters, Joan Stalker of West Walworth and Cheryl (Nelson) Schommer of Palmyra; sister, Carrie Miller of Carbondale, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Aubrey; one brother; five sisters; and a special friend, Agatha White.
Earl Symonds
CLIFTON SPRINGS -Earl Symonds, 88, of Glenn View Drive, passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2005 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
Friends called Thursday, Jan. 20 at the Patrick Funeral Home, in Clifton Springs where funeral services followed. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Little Church cemetery in Hall.
Friends may contribute to the Home for the Aged in Canandaigua.
Earl was born July 30, 1916, in Penn Yan, the son of Sherwood and Clara Symonds and had lived in the area most of his life. He was employed by Seneca Foods as a truck driver for 45 years. Earl was an avid gardener and loved to read. He enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he adored.
Earl is survived by his daughters, Carlene (Chris) Penner of Clifton Springs and Clara Ridley of Shortsville; two sisters, Helen Flynn of Penn Yan and Myrtle Eskildsen of Waterloo; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, on great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Earl was predeceased by his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Shirley; a son, John; and a son-in-law, Bill.
Margaret "Peg" Sloane
NEWARK - Margaret "Peg" Sloane, 74, of East Maple Street, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 17 at the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court in Newark. Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery in Geneva.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark, 14513.
Mrs. Sloane was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Albany, the daughter of William and Dorothy Pelton Schofield. Peg graduated from the Rochester General School of Nursing in 1951. She worked as a registered nurse at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, and for many years at the Clifton Springs Hospital, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, where she had been an elder and was involved with the Together in Christ organization.
She is survived by her four sons, David (Sandy) of Lyons, Douglas, Ph.D. (Janis) of Hyattsville, Md., Gregg (Debra) of Newark and Gary of Hyannis, Mass.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Hilda Scofield of Penn Yan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 1982; and a brother, George Scofield in 2004.
Alice L. Cashman
ITHACA - Alice L. Cashman, 94, of Highland Road, went to be with her late husband on Tuesday, January 18, 2005. Born July 27, 1910 in Clifton Springs, she was a daughter of the late F.Allen and Flora Deane deGraw and wife of the late Dr. Chester J. Cashman, DMD, who died in 1961. Following graduation from high school, Mrs. Cashman earned a bachelors degree from Bernard/Columbia University, after which she worked as a social worker. She was very devoted to her family and was loved and respected by everyone she came in contact with and will be truly missed by those that knew and loved her.
Mrs. Cashman is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chester J. and Carol Cashman Jr. of Ithaca, James A. and Marilyn Cashman of Wilkesboro, NC; grandchildren, Kim, Gina, Michelle and Sean Cashman; great-grandchild, Arianna; and sister, Jean France. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Lawrence, Carl and Harold deGraw; and a sister, Aileen Liebertson.
In respecting the wishes of Mrs. Cashman, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements were by the E.C. Wagner Funeral Home of Ithaca.
David E. Conrey, M.D.
PHELPS - David E. Conrey, M.D., 54, of 1786 Lester Road, passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005 surrounded by his loving family.
Family and friends called Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the Palmisano Funeral Home. Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 28 at the United Church of Phelps. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum.

David was born Jan. 10, 1951, in Gloversville. He was the son of George F. and Margaret Breeden Conrey. He received his undergraduate degree from Union College in Schenectady, his medical degree from the University of Rome, Italy; and completed his fellowship in cardiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked for many years with the Finger Lakes Medial Associates and had recently retired. He was serving on the executive board of the Finger Lakes Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the National World Turkey Federation, the National Rifle Association, the Ontario County Medical Society and Ducks Unlimited. He was a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Bellomo Conrey; daughter, Jessica (Jeffrey) Strollo of Spencerport, Amanda (Chad Wetherbee) Conrey of Charlotte, N.C.; and Becky Conrey of Burnt Hills; a sister, June Conrey of Olympia, Wash.; a grandson, Tyler Strollo; a niece, a nephew and many cousins.
Clarence Darling
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Clarence Darling, 85, of Wheat Road, died early Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005) with his loving family by his side.
Friends called Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the Patrick Funeral Home in Clifton Springs. Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the funeral home.
Friends may contribute to the Ontario-Yates Hospice or the House of John in Clarence's memory.
Clarence was born July 5, 1919, in the town of Hopewell, the son of the late Bessie and Harry Darling, and had lived in the area all of his life. He worked as a farmer for most of his life. Later, he was employed by the Phelps-Clifton Springs School district as a custodian. Clarence loved to work in his garden and make wood crafts. He was a past member of the Orleans and Clifton Springs fire departments.
Clarence will be remembered by his loving family, five sons, Richard (Mary Ellen) Darling of Phelps, Michael Darling of Canandaigua, and David (Alice) Darling of Maryland; four daughters, Barbara (Jack) Braden, Deborah (Skip) Vine, Sue Darling and Kris (Bob Crosby) Darling, all of Clifton Springs; and a very special friend, Marie Millerd of Penn Yan; grandchildren, Jill Poremba, Jeff Darling, Jason Darling, Shawn Darling, Tammy and Holly Darling, John and Angelina Darling, Jamie Vine, Erin Mahoney, Kelly Nemitz and Tim Braden; brother, Kenneth Darling; and sister, Ann Burgess.
He is predeceased by is wife, Jean Darling in 1993; his brothers, Frank Darling, Alwyne Darling, Bill Darling, Edward Darling, George Darling and Henry Darling; and daughter-in-law, Diane Darling.
Leland Edwin "Eddie" Gardner
PHELPS - L.Edwin Gardner, 84, of 24 Park St., died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends attended a memorial service Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Burial will be in RestHaven cemetery in the spring.

Mr. Gardner was born June 14, 1920 in Farmington, son of Lindley J. and Ethel K. Lindsay Gardner. Mr. Gardner married
Ruth H. Hodges on Dec. 24, 1941. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Phelps Golden Agers, Phelps Historical Society and a member of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church. Mr. Gardner was retired from the Gannett newspapers.
He is survived by is wife of 63 years, Ruth H. Gardner; a daughter Kathryn (Harlow) Blackburn of Phelps; a brother, Calvin (Carol) Gardner of Florida; a grandson, Daniel (Rebekah) Hiler of Leroy; a granddaughter, Lori (Lance) Webb of Newark; a great-grandson, Orion Hiler; a great-granddaughter, Indigo Hiler; a great-granddaughter, Emily Kathryn Webb; and several nieces and nephews.
Warren S. Carr
CANANDAIGUA - Warren S. Carr, 68, of Canandaigua, died Wednesday, Feb 2, 2005 at F.F. Thompson Hospital.
Friends called Friday, Feb. 4 at the Kennedy & Son Funeral Home in Canandaigua, where funeral services followed. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Canandaigua Emergency Squad or the American Heart Association.
Warren is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Carr of Canandaigua; two daughters, Susan (Wilfred) Durand of Clifton Springs and Janet ((Todd) Johnston of Canandaigua; three sons, Kenneth (Robin) Carr of Canandaigua, Patrick (Jill) Carr of Hall and Peter Carr (Lisa Livermore) of Shortsville; 11 grandchildren, Robert Kline, Kevin Carr, Katherine Carr, Jessica Carr, Mackenzie Johnston, Karryn Johnston, Heather Carr, Samantha Carr, Justyn Carr, Morgan Carr, Alyssa Weissinger; a sister, Nellie Markidis of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Vernon Carr, in 1985.
